Deep under Aurumount, in the belly of the capital mountain, lies had been uncovered and secrets finally revealed. The Delrythi Crown had said the Dreamon War was over. Shatterpoint had said that the night had been reclaimed and the people of Alvar could finally dream in peace. The Second Souls had said that only rogue Dreamons were left. They all lied.
Wren thought her world had shattered when she lost her parents to a Dreamon attack. It had left her orphaned and scarred, but she not only managed to survive on her own, she also fought her way through the chaos of the Daggerstorm and emerged as the Champion. Now, working with the Beggar Queen, she has finally found purpose; to uncover the truth behind the disappearances of Aurumount's “undesirables.”
After witnessing the impossible under Aurumount, she sets out with Callum and Lomen, her reluctant allies turned friends, to Shatterpoint, where she must confront the man responsible for her parents' death and unravel the sinister plans of the Cult of Slivers before they unleash horrors beyond imagining. Wren must find a way to reforge herself with the help of a newfound friend whose loyalty may hold the key to not only her future, but the future of all of Alvar. Thrust into the depths of shadowed secrets and swirling danger, she must find her place in a world that keeps threatening to swallow her whole.
Corwin was raised in foster care in rural Kentucky where he taught himself to read and write. He read just about any book he could get his hands on but found himself gravitating to fantasy books where orphans could wield magic and fly with dragons. Now he wants nothing more than to add his own stories to the world so another child somewhere will find an escape in a magical world.
Wren was my fave from Book 1, and she totally owned the stage. Alabastra too. I’m a sucker for re-discovery of magic, and there were so many epic reveals throughout, especially about Dreamons and Joruskans 🤯
All the best bits of book 1 are here. Small wholesome moments, a thickly history rich world. Interesting magic. Time in the Dreamscape was so cool. I actually found myself tearing up at a few spots between Wren & Cal. Also love that she calls him “Books”. Fits so well with him lol.
Absolutely SAT for the next book and excited to see where the saga goes.
I was so excited to continue this story! I love the characters and the bonds they have with each other. Also was happy to see their development in this book. Now I need to know what happens next!!
I adored book one in this series Second Soul and this second book was no exception I loved it.
Once again the writing instantly dragged me in from the very first sentence and I was hooked right up until the final sentence. The characters are so well developed, so much so that I find myself investing time in a lot of the side characters which doesn't always happen in books for me, especiallu not in fantasy books because there can be a lot of them.
I love everything about this series, and although I have a lot more questions and theories upon finishing this book than I did the first, it just makes me all the more excited, and very impatient to read the next.
Alright I have questions! This book is CLEARLY gearing us up for book 3! There were gaps purposefully left out with a side character as he went on his own quest & Corwin Michaels would give us glimpses of his journey just enough to keep the story together & I can’t wait to find out what happened in the next book! This was so well written & I’m just in love with this series! Thank you for sharing your imagination with us readers! <3
Shattered Soul by Corwin Michaels. The Dreamon War Saga Book 2. Wow. I loved the cover and blurb of this book. I loved book one. Book two is absolutely brilliant. From start to finish non stop action. I loved the writing style and the story. I did like Wren and Callum. Lomen and Alabastra grew on me. The Dreamons I really didn't like. I listened to this on my kindle. I couldn't put it down. I really hope there is more to come. I definitely recommend this series.
After devouring the first book, Second Soul, I was eager to dive head first into the second book, Shattered Soul - it did not disappoint. If anything, the writing which was already of a very high standard, had improved as the story moved on and the characters matured and grew. The plot is riddled with secrets and jeopardy and it kept me on the edge of my seat and turning pages. Wren is an enduring protagonist and I felt oddly protective of her. A wonderful read
I loved book one so I was excited for Book 2. I wasn’t disappointed. Packed with non-stop action, great world building and fabulous characters. This is a brilliant series and I can’t wait to read book 3. I have lots of questions that I need answers to from book 3.
Fantastic follow up to book 1, Second Soul! The journeys our three main character go through in this second book will have you gripping your seat in anticipation. The author does a fantastic job of really setting up thr storylines to intertwine, even as the characters follow different paths and pursue different avenues to achieve their group goal and I think it lends to the unique nature of each piece of the story and each characters role to play in the coming books. Highly recommend for fans of high fantasy, found family, organized magical systems within community and coming of age style tropes.
