An MM paranormal biker romance

I know I shouldn’t, it’s only going to hurt in the end…

Callum

Ash isn’t for me.

Just as well, because I don’t want him anyway.

Up until a few days ago, both those things were true. But there’s something about him that’s caught hold of my heart and refuses to let go. We aren’t soulbound like Morgan and Lynx. I shouldn’t find it this hard to stay away from him when I know nothing good can come from it.

Because Ash is human, skirting the edges of a world that would eat him up and spit out the leftovers. A world he has no idea exists.

He doesn’t know what we are, what his best friend has become.

And when he finds out the truth, he won’t feel the same about any of us.

Especially me.

All valid reasons for me to keep my distance, and yet here I am night after night, watching over him. Knowing it’s going to end badly.

But I need him to be safe.

And in the end, that’s all that matters.

Callum is book #2 in the Wild Wolves MC series, and should be read in series order. Expect a paranormal MM romance with angst, action, and all the UST that comes with possessive shifters. And of course, a hard-fought HEA

Gritty and tense, Annabelle delivers another cracking shifter romance

No-one writes wolf shifters quite like Annabelle Jacobs and that's a good thing.

Her wolves are an intrinsic part of their human counterpart, not a separate entity that acts independently.

Their emotions drive their actions alongside the human ones and blend into a perfect match of animalistic instincts and human reasoning.

Callum Holt is Lynx's right hand man, the second to his alpha, his best friend and his support. He's not supposed to get caught up with Ash, himself best mate of Lynx's soulmate Morgan.

Of course, fate plays her own cards and the relationship which grows between them is tentative and filled with fear and doubt, while simultaneously being the most emotionally intimate.

Annabelle treads the line between making them a will they/won't they situation without any tension (the reader knowing they absolutely will), and having them be an unusual match because of Ash's humanity so well.

There's an impending sense of dread that slowly grows as the narrative unfolds and it's this edge which always makes her paranormal romance plotlines so good.

No spoilers here, you'll have to read it and see just what's going on with the story threads carrying over from book one.

There's some pretty big revelations that pop into life in this book too and I cannot wait to see what happens next with Jet and Tanner.

#NOTE I beta read this book for Annabelle, my review is voluntarily and an honest opinion.

Callum by Annabelle Jacobs is book 2 in the Wild Wolves series. I loved this one way more than book 1 (probably because I didn’t have to read about Lynx- lol). Callum and Ash were cute and once Callum got over his worries about Ash being human made the sweetest couple. I am interested in how a mating bond between a shifter and human will work. Hopefully, we will get more of that in book 3. The mystery continues to ramp up as the Council will be moving in to investigate what happened to the police officers. I am very interested in Jet and Gray. I could not put this book down and am anxiously awaiting the next one!

I received an ARC from the author and GRR for my honest review.

Tropes / tags: close proximity, fated mates, suspense

I really liked to see Ash and Callum together, and the pull of being fated mates together with the hurt / comfort made my heart very happy!

When I read the first book in this series I wasn't fully prepared for how dark and gritty this world would be, but the high stakes had me instantly hooked. Callum was not quite as intense straight away, but the suspense and mortal peril was very much still there. I also loved how close knit the pack was, and the small touches and the way Lynx held them together was great to see.

Ash and Callum were sweet together and I loved the pull they both felt towards each other. Ash was very aware of Callum and his proximity, and I really liked them together. Callum tried to keep his distance, and there was a bit of push and pull between them, but he just couldn't stay away from Ash. It was easy to feel invested in their romance, and the pull of them being fated was addictive in the best way.

The suspense plot was a continuation from the first book, and the suspense kept building throughout the story. It was heartbreaking to think about the shifters being stuck in the fighting rings, and I can't wait to see what will happen in the coming books. The tension and stakes were high, and I loved seeing more of the other pack members and there are quite a few I look forward to learning more about.

Callum ended up being a bit sweeter than I expected, but it also had a darker and grittier plot as well. The suspense was great, it kept me on my toes and I didn't want to put the story down. I loved seeing Callum and Ash being pulled towards each other and their romance was both sweet and hot!

4.5 stars rounded up because Jacobs confirms once again that she’s the GOAT when it comes to writing shifter stories.
The world building is absolutely insane. I liked book 1 better, but I still loved this one.
At first, I had a little bit of trouble getting back into the story because it had been a while since I read the first book, but I quickly got back into the swing of things and remembered everything.
I liked the MCs, but not as much as the ones from the previous book. Ash could be a bit much at times, but overall, I think it worked.

I’m SO excited for book 3! I’ve been curious about Jet and Gray since the first book, and I nearly passed out when I saw that it won’t be coming out until summer 2027. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE UNTIL THEN???

Oh this one was even better than the first one! I loved Ash and Callum so much. I loved how much in denial Callum was about his feelings for Ash🤭 The poor guy was convinced he would never be mated to a human. Famous last words😆

Ash knew his best friend was keeping a huge secret from him, he just never imagined how big that secret was. Knowing that Morgan had joined the MC was already weird but to be told there was more, definitely had him wondering what it could be.

He didn’t trust that Morgan wasn’t being forced to be there but he let it go since his best friend looked happier than he’d ever seen him. Plus, he couldn’t deny that visiting Morgan didn’t give him a chance to feast his eyes on Callum, the MC m’s VP. But of course, he’d never admit to that.

Callum didn’t understand why his wolf was fixated on Ash. There was no way there could be anything between them. Besides, he didn’t even like Ash. Or so he kept telling himself. He just wanted to keep him safe because he was Morgan’s and Morgan was pack and pack protects their own.

Yet, when Ash is hit with devastating news, he’s the first one to offer him comfort. He can’t seem to stand seeing Ash so sad, it has nothing to do at all with his growing attraction to the human😏

Ash is surprised at how much he wants to be held by Callum. There’s something about his scent that just calms him down and he wants more of it. He also feels right when he’s with Callum and that’s another mind blowing feeling.

What starts as a moment of comforting Ash becomes an everyday occurrence that Callum can’t get enough of. Having Ash in his arms soothes him and his wolf and he can’t pretend anymore that Ash is theirs. But he can’t help feeling a sense of dread about what will happen when Ash learns the truth about him. Still, he wants to bask in it all in while it lasts.

And when the truth about who Morgan and the MC members are comes to light, Callum is proved right about Ash feeling hurt and betrayed by both him and Morgan. He knew that what they were building was too good to be true for it to last.

Ash knew Morgan was hiding something big but not life changing big. Yet he can’t help but feel drawn to the whole situation. Callum had been there for him when no one was and he can’t no longer deny that he’s developed feelings for the wolf. As weird and hurtful finding out the truth was, Ash had fallen for Callum.

Tired of fighting his feelings and of being alone, Ash finally gives in and lets Callum in. He has never felt more right in his life than when he’s with him. He wants to be with Callum and he’s not afraid to admit it anymore.

Once they’re both on the same page, Callum’s wolf can’t help but feel smug about having his mate. Callum knows how hard things are going to get for them but he doesn’t care as long has he has Ash by his side.

“𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐰. 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭, 𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫.”

They weren’t supposed to work. They weren’t supposed to fall for each other, but fate had a different idea. Ash couldn’t have imagined that he’d be mated to a shifter but he couldn’t be happier. Being with Callum just felt like home.

I can’t get enough of this series! I’m super invested and can’t wait for Jet and Grey’s book. Hopefully that’s the next one in the series. It’s gonna be a really interesting one for sure.

I read book 1 in this series and really didn’t like Lynx, so I was a little dubious as to reading book 2. However, Callum didn’t give off ‘shithead’ vibes so I decided to give it a try. Plus there’s an overarching plot and I’m a sucker for grittier paranormal books.

I super enjoyed this, much much more than book 1. And yes, you need to read book 1 otherwise you’ll be dropped into a book that won’t make sense. We pretty much start straight up from the ending of book 1 where our pack are trying to work out the next steps on stopping the shifter fights, dealing with the crappy rival MC and fending off unwanted investigations from the shifter council.

The plot was gritty and darker than a lot of shifter books I’ve read. However, I’ve read other books by this author in this world - not necessary to read to enjoy this - so I knew I’d enjoy myself. Great worldbuilding and lots of external antagonists.

Now, the relationship. I loved how this slowly crept up on both of them, it wasn’t fated mates but chosen, and that worked well. They both wanted it and it felt like they were getting to know each other before leaping in. Of course, due to pack rules Callum couldn’t tell Ash about shifters immediately and that caused hurt to Ash. It wasn’t dismissed and his feelings were acknowledged and respected. Also, and I don’t feel this is a spoiler, for once we didn’t have a human MC straight up go ‘yep turn me into a shifter, sounds great’ as soon as they are told about paranormals. It just felt realistic.

It wasn’t sex heavy and rightly so as it’s a darker plot with a lot going on, but the amount worked for the length of the book. Plus what we did get was hot!

I’m looking forward to book 3, it’s going to be emotional I can just tell.

I loved book 1 and had high expectations of this book because of that, and it did not disappoint. I was Into it. I really liked Ash and Callum as individuals in Lynx's book, and not only did I like them as individuals in this book too but also as a couple. They're very sweet. And the plot with the hunters thickens!
We know the next book will be Jet's and I'll be waiting for it (impatiently).

4.5 stars - I was so excited to see this pop back up on my feed, as I really enjoyed the first installment and was looking forward to seeing where this story was going. It didn’t take long for me to get right back into it remembering who all the characters were and what was going on. You really need to read the first book to understand all of that, as there is a lot of set up to get here.

This one picks up where the last one left off. Morgan and Lynx are happily mated, but there are still a few underlying issues to resolve. One being the hunters still after them all and the underground fight ring they need to take down which also deals with the two young shifters they rescued. The other is Morgan’s human bff, Ash, who he had to basically abandon after everything went down in the last book. They have somewhat reconciled, but things are not quite the same and understandably so, what with Morgan still keeping secrets about him now being a shifter, shifters in general, and about his seemingly over-protective and controlling boyfriend. It is a fine line between telling all and keeping everyone safe. Once Ash knows, will the pack be safe? Will Ash? Time will tell.

Then, there is the other aspect of Callum, Lynx’s second in command and MC VP. They are clearly attracted, but there are things getting in the way of that as well. Once Ash knows all, will he feel the same about Callum? Will he forgive the secrets? There is a push/pull here for Callum in allowing himself to get closing knowing he is likely to be hurt by the outcome but not being able to stay away. There is also the fact that Ash is Morgan’s best friend, so there is that connection as well that sort of binds him to the pack.

I am really enjoying this world. Not sure if it is because this story is really rolling now, but I enjoyed this a bit more than Lynx and Morgan’s book. I love the pack dynamics in this story as well. Lynx is the undisputable alpha, but they are all brothers and a family, and they don’t hesitate to remind each other that. All in all, this pack is full of great characters to love and a full story with a few tentacles that keep things interesting in different directions, but they all tie together to keep it from getting too out of control. It continues to maintain a certain level of not-too-fluffy, which I totally appreciate in a story these days. One of the more colorful and interesting characters is the dark and brooding, Jet, who I just know is going to be a good read. Looks like he is up next, and I can’t wait to dive in. Hope we don’t have to wait too long to get it.

This was so freaking good. Even better than Lynx, if you want honesty. It's funny, in Lynx I was worried I wouldn't like Ash and in Callum, I wanted to shake Morgan. I love the way the author leaned into the heightened emotions and let the characters feel things and learn from their behavior. Callum was as stubborn and bullheaded as I wanted him to be in the beginning and Ash as resilient and lovely. I wish there'd been more explanation for some of Callum's reluctance, though. Even in Lynx, they hint at things like "never again" and "not like before" but never go into any detail. I keep thinking a lot of it is tied into Beth and Bale and hope we get that story eventually. Speaking of stories eventually, I'm so very much looking forward to Jet's book because I have a good idea of where it's going to go and I'm so very here for it.

The plot in this one really took off for me. I enjoyed the unknown of who, precisely, was behind it all (no, it's not that big of a mystery but the characters don't know and there are many forces working at the same time--sort of--rather than just one).

I'm completely addicted to this series, even if it does occasionally rip my heart out for brief periods of time.

I really enjoyed getting to know Lynx and Morgan’s besties better. Cal and Ash were great in the first book, but this one really let me see who they are, and I loved that. It was also fun catching up with characters from earlier in the series, and I liked how the overall story arc for the shifters kept moving forward and the new developments. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of that progression and eventually the resolution.

Cal and Ash are really spicy together, and I enjoyed their dynamic so much. I can’t wait to see how their relationship grows. Ash’s dad seems knowledgeable about some of the things happening in town, so that family angle has me curious too. And with Jet and Tanner, it feels like something might be going on, but nobody can tell yet, which makes me even more interested to see what happens next.

Overall, I really liked this book. It was a great second installment, and I’m excited for more.

I had just recently discovered this author and I must say I am so happy I did. Somebody had recommended the first book in this series to me a little while ago and I had read it and I enjoyed it and I really enjoyed the characters but the storyline is what got me usually it's a characters but this author wow they do an amazing job of transporting you into their world I just adore an author when they can make that happen. Now I have read the second book in this series and I didn't think it was possible but I like this book more than I like the first book. The characters absolutely stole my heart in this story you could not help but cheer and laugh and cry with them as they went along on their story and adventure. I highly recommend this author I am diving into some of their other work and I am so excited for it.

Ash is happy to be reunited with his best friend who had mysteriously dropped out of touch and then when he turned up he was living with an MC. But not just any MC. Ash is right to feel like something is off. He is human and he kind of gets that something has changed. He just has no idea what he is about to learn. And then there were the dreams. He started to have some pretty explicit dreams about Ash. The attraction is not one sided either. They may wonder if they should and Callum is right to be concerned for Ash, but they are drawn together despite the complications that abound in their world. This was intense and a bit rough but good.

The mystery and suspense just keep getting more intense in this book and I'm totally hooked on finding out more in the next one. The author has done an excellent job with the fated mates storyline because of Callum's very real worries about what would happen if he was honest with Ash and let the human see into the real, paranormal world he inhabits. There is the distinct possibility that Ash would get away from that knowledge and everyone involved as quickly as possible. We get some answers here to things that started in the first book but more questions also arise and that is making for a great series.

Loved it!

I think I said of book one, that it was gritty without being too dark - I felt the same about “Callum”. There was danger, grief, distrust, and uncertainty, but under it all was family and devotion.

The relationship wasn’t just a re hash of Lynx and Morgan’s, which I really appreciated. Callum and Ash had their own set of problems and motivations.

We are no where near done with the Wild Wolves and their fight for the shifters and I. Ant wait to see who will find (or admit to) a mate next.

I quite enjoyed book 1 and book 2 does continue straight on from that one, so you do need to read in order. This one though, does follow the on-going plot but that wasn't really the focus in this book. Main focus is Callum pulling his head out and recognising what Ash is to him.....and Ash learning about a whole new world. There's a lot of back-n-forth ......and is generally a sweet and romantic story. There is a spike of action & suspense towards the end and of course there's a HEA for them, but I'm really curious to know what's happening next !! Sooo many questions unanswered....

Book Two in the continuation of the Wild Wolves series brings us Callum and Ash—and WOW, the angst and heat are 🔥!

Callum feels an undeniable pull toward Ash, but fighting those feelings only makes everything more intense. Ash is thrilled to have his best friend back, but quickly realizes Callum has changed and living with an MC is just the start to down slope.

Secrets, tension, forbidden feelings, and undeniable chemistry make this one hard to put down. Another great addition to the series, and now I’m impatiently waiting for the next drop of this wild MC world!

Solid continuation, more possessive-wolf angst done well.

Book two of Wild Wolves MC, paranormal biker shifters, angst and UST courtesy of possessive alpha-adjacent dynamics. Read Lynx first — this is very much a "continue the series" book, not a jump-on point, and Callum's arc is building off the club drama already established.

Jacobs writes dependable shifter-biker romance — action, a little danger, a hard-fought happy ending. Nothing revolutionary, but if you're already invested in this world, it's a solid continuation.

I loved this story so much!!! Another wonderful story against all odds. Callum is sure Ash will run as far and as fast as he can when he learns the truth. Ash is more angry at everyone for not telling him the truth from the start than he is worried. Ultimately there are still some very bad characters in the town and the people who should be making sure it all ends in the right way don't seem to be making any attempt to fix things. There is more to come from this group of wonderful characters!! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

“Ash smells like the forest floor after heavy rain: rich, earthy, alive.
He smells like home.”

There’s a magic, arcane and mysterious, that exists between a shifter and their mate, but one thing I know, Ash and Cal exude it. I love them. I love how human Ash is and everything he had to grapple with as it makes their love so much more tangible and real. I love how hard Cal tried to resist his feelings but ultimately couldn’t stop the pull. If that isn’t enough to have you running to read this series, the irresistible found family will. Jet cannot get here too soon.

Once I started reading, I couldnt put the book down

I loved Ash and Callum, and the raw pain and vunerabilty they each showed. Callum pulled to Ashs side throughout his grief and loss. Being there to support Ash, when as he struggled to accept new realities, the way he needed
Some of it took me a little time to remember Lynx and Morgans story. While reading it first is recommended, I still enjoyed it with my goldfish memory

Fantastic book by Annabelle Jacobs.

The pull between Callum and Ash was strong. It was difficult to pinpoint when things started changing but these two were beautiful together.

Action packed, well developed characters and a plot that left me turning the pages. Highly recommend!

I don't read that many books with Shifters, but I have become a fan of Wolfshifters. And this is a book you just can't stop reading; you get pulled into the story. Callum and Ash are amazing together. You really have to read the first Lynx; then you'll understand the story better.

think what I liked most about Callum and Ash was that they were both vulnerable and imperfect in different personal ways. The way Callum was all in supporting and caring for Ashes emotions was pretty stunning. A turning point for romance and love to grow from the friendship!
