This is the first time I’ve read a book by Hannah Ellis, and I know it won’t be my last! She truly encapsulates the feeling of Christmas in this novel, and I loved it to pieces. Our two main characters, Lewis and Erin, are very different. He lives in the country, runs a hotel, and generally keeps himself busy just working. Erin on the other hand is a city girl from London. After her parents gift her a holiday stay at the hotel Lewis works at Erin finds that the fresh air, festive countryside, and even the handsome innkeeper was just what she needed. But she’ll have a choice to make. Play it safe, keep her heart closed and go back home to London or open her heart and let someone in again…

Not Just for Christmas is truly a cozy Christmas read with all the holiday trimmings. I loved the setting, the activities, the secondary characters, and their love story. It’s also an easy read, one without much drama (just a tad towards the end), and feels like a warm hug. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a cozy holiday read that will put a big smile on your face.

Lovely Christmassy read that felt like the perfect cup of tea while being curled up on the sofa.

The first half of the book was a bit too easy and monotone, but things took an interesting turn with Erin and Lewis!

Special mention for the very cute cover!

I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.

This was a cute Christmas read that started and ended exactly how I wanted it to.
It started off a little slow but really picks up half way through the book!
I think everyone deserves a Lewis for Christmas!!!

A sweet romance between a workaholic with a secret and a woman avoiding a relationship so as not to get hurt again. Erin is generally happy with her life. She has a cute flat, a good job and great friends. But when she receives a getaway for two at Christmas, does she really want to go solo? Once in the Cotswolds, a misunderstanding leads to small lies and yet she finds herself enjoying the place and the very busy hotel manager. Lewis is constantly being nagged about working too much but when a lovely guest checks in, he finds that maybe some things are more important than work. As the two become friends and a kiss under the mistletoe stirs hidden feelings, will the past and unrevealed secrets tear them apart, or are their differences in circumstances too great to overcome.
This was a sweet, closed-door romance that made you want to experience the Cotswolds too. The characters each had their own struggles to deal with and they had a nice, quiet chemistry between them. His family and their friends provided a lot of cheer and laughable moments that added greatly to the story. It’s an easy feel-good read but I wanted a little more drama and would have liked an epilogue to see how at least the near future turned out for them. Overall, a pleasant, comfy feeling story. 3.5. Super quick and cozy read. Felt like a snuggle in a warm blanket.

I want to rate it higher, but some of the characters just didn’t make sense. Ivy bothered me to no end and she just came out of nowhere with her hate, having no real basis but still trying to change Lewis’ mind about Erin. You can’t convince me she didn’t like him, and although that clearly wasn’t the angle of the book since it was addressed, her story was messed up bc it just doesn’t make sense otherwise. There’s no reason for her to be so hateful all of a sudden and then not like Lewis like that- she’s not a friend and I won’t buy the story. And then at the end of the book all of a sudden she was fine with Erin. Like no worries, it’s all over- you’re not a gold digger! No.

And then, the part that really got me. The end of the book when Erin left without speaking to him? Like I’m so sorry but I just can’t get behind that. It made no sense for her to not talk to him and for her to try to sneak out.. and what? Never speak to him again? It was so cowardly and made me so confused about her as a character. All of a sudden I didn’t like her at all and it kinda ruined the end of the book for me.

Erin receives a surprising Christmas gift from her parents, who are going to Australia for Christmas.

The gift is a “Romantic couple’s retreat in the Cotswolds”

Erin’s surprise is that she is not part of a couple, but her mother believes she will have a partner by the time she takes up the offer.

On her arrival at the boutique Hotel, she lies about a fake fiancé who dumped her when questioned by staff.

This story is a delightfully easy read, with a host of well drawn characters, and descriptions of the village and surrounding area, as well as the lovely itinerary that was on offer. I loved it, and couldn’t put the book down.

Erin catches the eye of the Hotel Manager, and their friendship blossoms, but, as ever, the course of true love doesn’t run true, and there are more surprises in store for Erin.

This book is perfect for getting into the holiday spirit! The cozy and heartwarming atmosphere had me smiling from start to finish. The characters are so unique and the author did an amazing job at evoking the right emotions. Erin and Lewis are portrayed perfectly, and the plot twist about Lewis's job is so unexpected and delightful. If you're looking for some inspiration to find new love this Christmas, this book is just the thing. It's a reminder that stepping out of our comfort zones can lead to wonderful surprises!

Thank you, booksirens for the advanced reader copy.

Erin Grant loves her life in London. She’s got a great job and a group of supportive friends. When her parents decide to spend Christmas in Australia m, Erin’s mother surprises her with a getaway at a cozy hotel in the Cotswolds. Geared towards couples, it’s a shock to both staff and patrons that she’s there alone, but Erin decides to make the best of it and enjoy her time there. Sparks fly when she meets the handsome hotel manager, Lewis. Will their growing relationship be more than just a holiday fling?

This is a very low angst novel and can be described as a British Hallmark movie, which is fine by me having finished reading a more angsty novel prior to this one. I will say though that the reason Erin wasn’t spending the holidays with her family wasn’t quite as compelling as it could’ve been.

Both Erin and Lewis are likable characters. They have an easy rapport at the start of the novel that develops further as the story goes on. There’s a definite spark there, but it doesn’t quite reach scorching levels. There’s no real tension or build up. The story did drag at times, especially in the middle.

Lewis’s secret was easy to guess. I could understand why he would put off telling Erin about it, especially given how his ex reacted. So I found Erin’s reaction to discovering the secret rather odd. I could understand being upset for being kept in the dark, but it didn’t make sense that she would just run away and not talk about it and find out why he felt the need to keep his secret. Also they are just getting to know each other, he has every right to wait until he determines the right time to share this information. They’ve only been seeing each other for a handful of days. The conflict just didn’t ring true to me and felt contrived.

Ms. Ellis does do a lovely job of world building, and I can clearly picture this quaint village. Despite my quibbles, it is a sweet story and a quick read if you’re in the mood for a small town holiday romance.

Not Just for Christmas by Hannah Ellis

This is a cute and cosy festive romance, but not quite a favourite for me. It is an easy, comforting read with a strong holiday atmosphere, even if some elements did not fully convince me.

The story follows a single city woman who receives a romantic couples’ Christmas stay as a gift from her mother, clearly given in the hope that she might have a boyfriend by Christmas. Instead of being awkward about it, she simply goes on her own, which I genuinely enjoyed. The hotel setting is a highlight, with a variety of wintery events and seasonal activities that give the book a proper festive feel and make it an enjoyable Christmas escape.

One of the hotel employees is an utter workaholic, and of course a romance begins to develop. This part follows familiar genre beats, but it is handled in a warm, easy way that fits the tone of the book.

There is also a big secret at the centre of the story, which I personally found quite predictable. What frustrated me more was the fallout once it is revealed. The book even has the main character internally acknowledge the exact reason why this information was kept secret, which made the extreme reaction hard for me to understand. Instead of empathy or perspective, the response felt exaggerated and a little forced to create drama.

That said, the surrounding story is genuinely sweet. I really enjoyed the close, loving family dynamic, and that warmth helped balance out the more contrived conflict. Because of that, I did not mind the slightly unrealistic drama too much.

My only other real complaint is how the book very clearly states that a dog is not a good Christmas present, only to then turn around and show how everything works out just fine anyway. The message ends up feeling muddled, and as someone who takes that seriously, it left me a bit unconvinced.

One thing I really appreciated was that the love interest has a female best friend and, refreshingly, they are genuinely just friends. No jealousy, no hidden agenda, just a solid, supportive friendship. I also liked the wider sense of friendship and loyalty within the community as a whole. That tight knit network of people looking out for each other adds a lot of warmth to the story.

The book also has a good sense of humour running through it, which helps keep things light even when there is conflict. All in all, this is a warm, fun Christmas read with a cosy setting, likable characters, and plenty of festive charm, even if it did not quite become a personal favourite.

As it’s getting closer to the festive season, I thought I would start reading a few more books set at Christmas. Hannah Ellis is an author whose books never let me down so was definitely my first go to when looking for a story set at that time of year.

Erin is a singleton whose parents gift her a stay in a luxury hotel over Christmas. This wouldn’t be too much of an issue apart from it’s usually a couples package and all other guests are, as you probably have guessed, couples. Lewis seems to be the manager of the hotel who never seems to stop working. As soon as the pair meet, you can see sparks fly.

The country setting and the hotel was just perfect. You get the small community feel and the other characters are all lovely, especially Lewis’s family who I adored. Whilst you are willing the pair to get it together, there are a few things that are against them, distance for one with them living miles apart. Lewis also seems to be hiding something and I would never in my wildest dreams have guessed correctly as to what it was.

Not Just for Christmas was a gorgeous festive read that really gets you in the mood. Funnily enough I was left craving mince pies! It was a wonderful escape that truly warms your heart. It’s a wholesome, feel good story that’s upbeat and leaves you feeling uplifted. I’m pleased to see there is another book in the series and can’t wait to be back in the Cotswolds and catch up with the characters.

This delightful story first captured my attention because of the cover on the book. Everything about it caught my eye & I knew this was a must read for me.

All the personalities are spot on with relatable relatives, friends, coworkers & the like in each of our daily lives. I appreciate the extra attention to detail.

England, the Cotswolds, Chipping Campden - the United Kingdom - what a dream to go there someday. A lot of the stories I select to read these days, are based in & around the UK. This book had numerous great mentions; however, I wish there had been slightly more descriptive writing on these wonderful locations; especially since I most likely will “visit” such places vicariously through these stories.

By & large, this book was a fantastic addition to my holiday tradition of reading at least one Christmas book each month throughout the year, and also branch out by finding “a new to me” author. Ms. Ellis is definitely a gifted author, & I will certainly be reading more of her writings! Thank you for such a delightful Christmas story to add to my season this year!

For my first Christmas read of the year, I was excited to have an early copy of this new book by Hannah Ellis. I have always been a fan of the way in which Hannah can link together great protagonists with a strong and believable family network but having read all her previous books, I have loved the setting and back story as much as the main characters. In this new series, this delightful book sets a wonderful Christmas scene and the strong foundations for further books to come.

Erin is a great character - strong and independent yet hiding some hurt and vulnerability and I love the way she embraces the opportunity to spend Christmas in an idyllic Cotswolds setting. Lewis is a likeable and hardworking hotel manager and his friendly nature and willingness to put others before himself makes him a perfect match for Erin. The story has Hannah’s trademark ups and downs but each one helps us to understand more about the characters. I would thoroughly recommend this read and look forward to another instalment.

A cute and cozy Christmas book was just the refresher I needed. Was really nervous picking this up because I am very much a girly who likes to pick up books other people with similar book taste to mine love. I have not seen anyone talk about this nor have I seen it in stores. But I was browsing on KU and wanted something not extremely long but also cute and something that felt Christmasy. Loved that this took place in a hotel and that the hotel arranged for places to take the guests to show them around. I loved the main characters and also the side characters. Lewis’s sisters were such a good addition I thought and I loved how sweet they were to Erin. I loved Lewis self growth throughout the book and him finding what he wanted to do with his life. Erin was so brave for going on this trip to a couples hotel by herself and making the best out of it and actually having a fun time and meeting many new friends. The ending was predictable but cute at the same time. It was definitely what I needed as a little pallet cleanser 🥰

Such a sweet Christmas Rom-Com!

Erin is gifted a couples holiday over Christmas (even though she’s super single) and meets hotel owner, Lewis. There’s an obvious connection between the two of them, and their interactions are just so cute. Between her dodging questions about why she’s there single and him working himself to the bone, they find time for flirting with each other.

Besides the plot, the quirky cast of characters make this book truly come alive. From Lewis’ family to Ivy & Warren, they were true bright spots in the story.

Not shocking, I didn’t love the lack of communication between Lewis & Erin. But that’s one of my least favorite tropes. Just talk to each other, dang it! I also kinda hated Erin’s sister and felt like besides her big “drop”, she didn’t add much to the story except for making my blood boil.

Overall, a perfect read for this time of year!

Plenty festive, good romance🎄💏

4.5🌟 stars

This was an easy, cozy reading escape for a day to a luxury hotel in the scenic Cotswolds where Londoner Erin meets her match instead of arriving with him!

Loved the way Erin and Lewis get together in a slow build holiday romance that oozes Christmas, right down to those ubiquitous mince pies and the Santa grotto! I could really picture Erin's delight with all the hotel amenities and the handsome, helpful guy who makes her stay so extra special. And Lewis's big secret that threatens to end their relationship almost before it gets started. Added a bit of mystery and then, once revealed, made me like Lewis all the more.

Romantic rather than steamy, which is actually what I prefer at present. Good secondary characters, too, especially Lewis's family.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

‘Not Just for Christmas’ was delightful. The plot was filled with a festive solo escape for the holidays, being drawn to the hotel’s manager, spending time together, meeting other family members, keeping a secret at bay, intimating at the secret throughout, enjoying dinner with the family, extending the stay, inadvertently finding out the secret, going back home, coming up with a possible plan, hashing it out with the friends, and falling in love.
Moreover, Erin and Lewis, the protagonists, were soul mates and gushed with chemistry. I kept rooting for them. In addition, I liked the author’s vivid descriptions including imagery and the perfectly phrased word choices that created an upbeat tone. Overall, I liked the amusing narrative.

Perfect Feel-Good Holiday Escape to a Beautiful Cotswold "Hallmark" Village

This was a great, cosy by the fireplace, read to help get inspired for the holidays. The characters had depth and were fun to read about - especially some of their holiday activities and shenanigans. And the plot had several twists and turns that I did not anticipate which kept the pages turning. It was "clean read", yet you could feel Lewis and Erin's sparks and attraction without the details. The only thing missing was an epilogue as I was wondering what happened after the book ends. I look forward to reading more from this new to me author - Enjoy!

I was sent an ARC by the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

I was a little worried at first because it’s written in 3rd person and sometimes I feel like we miss out on internal dialogue that way. But I can say that in this book it worked out well! I loved the ups and downs with the characters. There was a bit of drama but it felt like the perfect amount for a Christmas romance. A bit of comedy that brought some light fun. And my goodness such great world building. As I was read felt like I could see everything so clearly. The only thing I didn’t like was that while we got resolution at the end, I think the story would have benefited greatly from an epilogue down the road a year or so. Overall this was a great Christmas love story! Definitely would recommend!

‘What matters are things like trust and honesty.’

Erin didn’t know what she wanted for Christmas, but what she got was the last thing she expected in this sweet holiday romance. When her mother presents her with a romantic getaway - for two- to the Cotswolds when the rest of the family makes plans without her, Erin is mystified at the logic behind the gift but says the heck with it and goes by herself. Surrounded by happy couples she finds herself having a good time of the planned outings because hotel manager Lewis is more than eager to be her companion. But secrets have a way of coming out and he has a huge one that could derail their happily ever after before you can say Happy New Year.

A easy story to read

Not Just for Christmas is a easy read, and a fun story. A young woman is gifted with a present of going to a couples event at a hotel, and being single, finds herself a topic of conversation. Her experiences there are varied, and eventually focuses on one man in particular.
The story is about relationships and moving forward with life. It has some comedic moments, but mostly it deals with feelings and thoughts about past relationships and situations, and the scars that they can bring when considering new relationships.
There are sexual activities included in the story, which brings down my rating of stars. They could have been left out and not have hurt the story from my perspective.

Erin believes that she is happy and has all that she needs in life but a festive escape to Cotswolds has her rethinking. Between the charming festive atmosphere and Christmas activities and oh don't forget the lovely hotel manager Lewis. This book is perfect to get you in the spirit or even just if you want to escape somewhere beautiful for a while. The plot is engaging and enjoyable as I laughed out loud quite a bit. You can easily see, smell and feel what is happening through the words. The characters are uniquely designed and written and I really liked them! A truly perfect cosy escapism romance with festive spirit.

I enjoyed Erin and Lewis's feel-good Christmas romance. This story could easily be at home on the Hallmark channel, so if you're a fan, then this book is for you. I loved how the hotel and surrounding areas were described. It made me want to visit and enjoy Christmas there myself.

I would've liked an epilogue maybe a year later to see where they were and how they were getting on and maybe a little more sizzle along the way, but other than that it was a good read which I couldn't put down, once I started it.

There is something nice about the idea of a Christmas romance. NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS doesn't disappoint.

I struggled a bit to come up with a word that describes the book and decided on "timeless." Though firmly set in the present (there are cellphones and the Internet), the story could have been published fifty years ago and been just as charming and enjoyable. Readers should enjoy seeing Erin and Lewis move from meeting to open-to-possibilities and a relationship. The Cotswold setting adds to the Christmas magic.

I suppose finishing a book well after Christmas (oops…is it February already?) is the same as leaving your Christmas tree up too long. You have my permission to judge.

Anyway, this was a sweet book. And it proved to me that holiday romances don’t actually have to be cheesy. It had all the makings of a cheesy holiday novel: a surprise romance that just can’t work out because of some shocking twist (which I actually surprised myself about because I guessed it pretty early on), and an idyllic backdrop. But the writing wasn’t cheesy like so many other holiday romances are.

Fun read!

I didn't know it but I need to move to the Cotswolds! Who's with me! This was the perfect quaint and cozy little town we think about whenever we hear the words Small town romance!

I loved all the characters in this story. I think they added an element to it that kept me entertained throughout. There was great humour added in as well. Just enough to give you some relief after a tense scene.

I definitely wanted more!

Just finished Not Just for Christmas by Hannah Ellis, and I absolutely loved it! This book is such an easy, feel-good read with all the Christmassy vibes you could wish for. What about kissing under the mistletoe? Do you believe in that? If you enjoy reading cozy romances, this is a great story. Erin really loved her life and everything was perfect ( or she thought it was) until she met Lewis and suddenly her life was upside down. Love has this power!!! On the other hand, Lewis was hiding a secret and the question was: can love survive after all or it was only a Christmas tale ??? Anyway, the book is a must read.
