A determined minister and a talented actress—bound by love, tested by prejudice, and challenged to choose between heart and conventions.

Pastor Silas Hamilton defied his father’s plans for his life in order to follow God's call to a small Colorado church. But when he falls for Willow Starr, a gifted actress new to town, his congregation threatens to fracture. Though he's certain she’s the one God intends for him, mounting pressure forces him to question everything.

Willow has never known a life beyond the theater, following in her parents' footsteps alongside her domineering sister. When she meets Silas, she discovers a love worth more than any stage role. But with a career-making opportunity in New York beckoning and a church suspicious of actresses, Willow must decide if she's brave enough to step into an entirely new life.

As rumors and lies threaten to tear them apart, Silas and Willow discover that sometimes the hardest choices lead to the greatest blessings.

I loved my return visit to Martin City, Colorado in 1886. Catching up with the Mackenzies was quite delightful and Silas was a wonderful hero. His dedication to his flock, his unconditional love for the people he pastors, and his desire to do God’s will made him memorable. Willow was charming with her unassuming and humble heart, loving and generous spirit, and desire to see good in everyone. The way misconceptions, assumptions, and gossip tore apart Silas’ congregation struck something deep and I could see even my church behaving this way with certain opinions and issues. Silas working to reconcile and forgive biblically was inspiring. I will have to remember his approach and thought process when I need to resolve a conflict within the church.

If you enjoy sweet historical romance, you will love this one. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series where we’ll find Phin Mackenzie all grown up and successful. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

Stars in Her Eyes is a sweet love story set in the West about two people who are different but can’t help being drawn to each other. The opening line is fun and quickly sets the tone.

Willow and Silas are easy to love. Silas is a preacher, in a small town who becomes interested in Willow, an actress visiting the town. The people in town don’t approve of Willow because of her job and their prejudice, but she still finds herself attracted to Silas. How can she not be? He has strong character, faith, and treats her with respect.

Some people in the town judge Willow and Silas harshly, which was frustrating but felt true to small-town life. I admired the way both Willow and Silas strayed strong and kept their faith. The story was very satisfying.

First Line: Pastor Silas Hamilton had become adept at dodging matrimony-minded maidens and their match-making mamas, but he’d never encountered a mother as determined as Mrs. Drabble.

4.5 stars!

Silas is a pastor. Willow is an actress. Some think they shouldn’t be together and try to interfere but fail. This was a great story! I loved how strong Silas’s character was, he doesn’t back down and does what he thinks is right. Willow is very caring and trustworthy. Together they are a great couple. They have separate problems they have to deal with throughout the book. I loved seeing characters from the previous books again. Good Christian content. Overall a good story and I recommend!

This book was so fun! I loved seeing more of the Martin City characters and the Mackenzie family. I loved the Jane Eyre references and theater setting! The characters, Silas and Willow, were amazingly well written and the faith themes throughout their struggles were perfect. Erica Vetsch always writes the most natural-feeling historical fiction!

There is something about the world of performance that has always fascinated people. The lights, the anticipation, the moment a curtain rises and a story begins to unfold before a waiting audience. It is easy to understand why someone would be drawn to that kind of life.

Willow Starr has built her world around the stage. Acting allows her to step into stories larger than her own and bring characters to life with passion and talent. The theater offers movement, purpose, and the intoxicating thrill of being seen. Yet behind every performance lies a quieter reality that cannot be escaped once the lights dim and the audience goes home.

When Willow’s life intersects with Pastor Silas Hamilton, two very different worlds begin to meet. Silas carries the steady responsibilities of shepherding a congregation and guiding people toward Christ. His calling shapes the way he views life, relationships, and the choices that define a person’s future. The presence of an actress within his small-town church community raises more than a few eyebrows, and the tension that follows reveals how easily assumptions can form when lives look different from our own.

What unfolds between Willow and Silas grows gradually through honesty, humility, and the willingness to look beyond surface impressions. Respect deepens before affection ever has the chance to grow, and that foundation makes their relationship feel sincere and grounded. Both characters wrestle with the question of calling—what it means to use the gifts God has given while remaining faithful to Him above all else.

One of the things that stayed with me while reading this story is the way it reflects the beauty of God-given creativity. The ability to tell stories, portray emotion, and bring imagination to life is itself a reflection of the Creator who formed humanity with the capacity to create. Yet this novel gently explores the deeper truth that those gifts find their fullest purpose when they are surrendered to the One who gave them.

Silas provides a steady presence throughout the story. His faith is not loud or showy, but rooted in Scripture and lived out with quiet conviction. Willow’s journey unfolds alongside that steady influence as she begins examining what truly defines her life beyond applause and recognition.

The story also carries a tender reminder about the way communities sometimes struggle to understand people who arrive from different worlds. Grace, patience, and humility become necessary for hearts to soften and for genuine fellowship to grow.

When I reached the final pages, I found myself thinking about the difference between the light of a stage and the light that guides a life.

Stage lights eventually fade.

But the light that comes from walking faithfully with Christ shines far brighter and longer than any spotlight ever could.

Stars in Her Eyes by Erica Vetsch is a Christian Historical Romance. This book is the ninth book in the Brides of the West series.

Stories about faith and love often explore what happens when the heart and expectations collide, and this novel leans fully into that tension. With a small-town church, a passionate minister, and an actress searching for her place in the world, the story centers on two people who must decide whether to follow God’s call, even at the cost of their own lives.

Pastor Silas Hamilton chose a path very different from the one his father envisioned for him. Determined to follow God’s leading, he accepts a position at a small Colorado church and pours himself into serving the congregation. Everything seems steady until Willow Starr arrives in town. Willow is a talented actress whose life has always revolved around the theater, and Silas quickly realizes that his feelings for her run deeper than he expected. Unfortunately, not everyone in his church shares his openness. Suspicion and prejudice begin to surface, leaving Silas caught between the woman he loves and the congregation he feels called to lead.

Willow Starr has always known the stage. Raised in a theatrical family and overshadowed by a controlling sister, acting is the only life she’s ever imagined. Yet meeting Silas awakens something new in her—a longing for a future that isn’t defined by applause or scripts. Just as she begins to consider what that future might look like, a career-changing opportunity in New York appears. Faced with a chance to achieve everything she has worked toward, Willow must wrestle with whether she is ready to leave her old life behind for something far more uncertain.

The story does a beautiful job of highlighting themes of faith, calling, and the courage it takes to step outside society’s expectations. The tension between the church community and Willow’s profession adds a layer of realism, keeping the conflict engaging. Rumors, misunderstandings, and the pressure of public opinion all play significant roles in testing both Silas and Willow’s faith and commitment to one another.

One of the book’s strengths is its exploration of prejudice within a faith community. It raises thoughtful questions about grace, judgment, and how easily people can forget the very compassion they claim to represent. Watching Silas wrestle with his responsibility as a pastor while trying to follow his heart makes for a compelling emotional journey.

While the romance is central to the plot, the deeper message about trusting God’s plan stands out the most. Silas and Willow both face choices that could reshape their futures, and their willingness to seek God’s direction adds depth to the story.

Overall, this is a heartfelt and faith-filled novel about love, calling, and the courage to pursue the life God places before us—even when others question the path. Readers who enjoy inspirational romance with meaningful spiritual themes will likely find this story both encouraging and thought-provoking.

So if you enjoy Christian Historical Romances, check out Stars in Her Eyes by Erica Vetsch.

I love a good opposites attract romance & Stars in Her Eyes is definitely that! Take a handsome country preacher & a talented New York bound actress & watch the sparks fly. Erica Vetsch delivers another exciting, inspirational, romantic Western in this favorite Brides of the West series.

Pastor Silas Hamilton’s walking a tightrope when he agrees to shepherd the small Martin City, Colorado church. When he’s not trying to prove himself to his father, he’s fending off the matchmaking schemes of one of the church’s most prominent members. When the beautiful actress Willow Starr comes to town to perform Jane Eyre, he’s completely smitten, but can he convince his congregation that she’s a good, God-fearing woman who’s nothing like the typical actress.

Willow’s life has always been the theater. After her parents’ deaths, her domineering sister took the reins & constantly pushes her to achieve more. When Willow’s rescued by a handsome, charming preacher, she falls hard & fast. He’s nothing like her slimy costar & is a breath of fresh air. He teachers her how to skip rocks & introduces her to a life beyond the stage. But, can she overcome the prejudice the town has against actresses & who a minister’s wife should be, & thwart her sister’s plans.

I loved this story! Willow’s genuine, sweet, unassuming, & talented. I loved seeing her enjoy all the simple joys in life alongside Silas. Silas is one hunky preacher who genuinely cares for his flock & is willing to fight for those he cares for. I loved his down to earth, swoony personality, & his loveable tomcat Sherman. Their sizzling, sweet romance has plenty of obstacles to overcome & kept me quickly turning the pages.

Highly recommend this book & the entire series! I received an advanced copy from the publisher but also purchased in Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are completely my own & provided voluntarily.

This story really kept my attention. I liked how the author brings an exciting part of this time period to life. I’ve read about traveling troupes as they entertain on stage in different towns. The life seems glamorous but beneath all the cheers and applause is a lonely life for our leading lady.

I adored the name Willow Star and found it to fit her perfectly. She breezes into places with a quiet demeanor and shines brightly wherever she is. Her gift of acting wins praises from everyone but I don’t think she has the confidence she needs. Her sister Francine really upset me. Her jealousy and petty comments to Willow are never ending. I did like how Willow is patient with her sister but there will come a time when she will need to speak up for herself.

Silas is a delightful character who is the pastor of the small church in town. He tries to help everyone but there are some members of the congregation that are critical of him. His faith is evident when he delivers sermons with compassion. It was very refreshing to see Silas treat Willow with respect as they begin to court.

The journey isn’t easy for them as rumors start that try to push them away from each other. It seems that church members want to tell Silas how to run his life as well as the church itself. I did get a bit annoyed at how some members were so judgmental and arrogant. A simple Godly relationship between a pastor and an actress brings out the worst in people. Will Willow decide to stay or follow her career? Can Silas find a way to keep Willow from turning away from him?

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Erica Vetsch’s signature swoony style graces Stars in Her Eyes, a romantic novel that adds a new layer to her Brides of the West series. I just adore it when familiar characters from earlier books make appearances, letting us see what happened after their fairy tale ending. That layer of recognition and history adds to the coziness of this book.

I adored the characters in this book. The protagonists, Silas and Willow, embody the “instantly smitten” trope flawlessly, their instant connection evident from their first encounter. The story had an air of forbidden romance, given his role as a pastor and her status as a celebrated actress. The antagonists’ sheer villainy was maddening, fueling my frustration and compelling me to eagerly anticipate their downfall.

I greatly appreciated the historical overview of the small churches and the community’s internal strife. The intricate details of stage life from that era provided rich texture to the narrative. I found the tale heartwarming and sweet. It flowed smoothly, making it a pleasure to read. With its dynamic pacing and rich descriptions, the story unfolded like a movie worthy of the Hallmark channel, pulling me through the chapters and into the heart of the saga. I was genuinely pleased with the story, especially by its clever and much-anticipated conclusion. This latest installment is a sweet addition to the historical romance series.

Silas Hamilton is a pastor in need of a wife so a certain busybody will stop coming after him for her daughter. Silas knows a wife is a wonderful gift, yet he would like to be in love with her as well. Then one day he meets a fairy by the river, actress Willow Starr. He falls almost instantly; she also sees her life looking very differently with Silas than what her sister has planned. Theirs is a match made in heaven, except for those who are vehemently opposed.

So, Silas and Willow fall in love and they plan to get married, but it seems the whole of the church congregation is against them. They are causing so many problems that Willow does not want to come between the church and their pastor Silas. However, Silas sees no other way. He will find another church to pastor, but he will not lose Willow.

This was a romance full of turmoil from where you would least expect it. There were a lot of great lessons on church behavior and using certain church laws wrong, especially when the church is supposed to be an example to the world.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.

Stars in her Eyes by Erica Vetsch is part of the Brides of the West series. Pastor Silas Hamilton Is struggling with tension in the church, mainly caused by one woman who wants him to marry her daughter. When an acting tour brings Willow to town, Silas and her have a chance meeting and develop feelings for each other.
This is a nice series that does contains the same characters but are nice stand alone stories as well. I enjoyed this story very much. I appreciate how Silas held to the word when he developed feelings for Star. He cares so much for his church members. This story also shows how striving for stardom can cause a lot of hard feelings and competition. I enjoyed how Star did her job so well without developing that personality. She is put under much stress as the tour is offered a chance to play in New York but only if she is there. I like how she spends time making the decision that is best for her. This is a nice story that caught my attention right away and held it to the very end.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this story, this is my honest review.

Stars in Her Eyes is a wonderful historical fiction novel that you’re going to want to make the time to read! This is a wonderful author for historical fiction. She definitely knows how to write a novel that will keep you reading until the very last line.

In this novel, we get to explore the possibilities of a relationship between a pastor and an actress back when being an actress was not considered an appropriate occupation.

Welcome to Colorado in 1886. You’ll get a bit of history and a lot of fun as you navigate the romance of these two. Will Willow choose to leave behind acting so she can be with Silas? Would his congregation even accept her?

I thoroughly enjoyed this read and fully recommend it. This is also part of a series, so make sure to find the rest of the books and read them too!

Stars in Her Eyes” is another entry in Erica Vetsch’s “Brides of the West” series. You can enjoy this book on its own without having read any of the other books in the series, but it’s fun to get a glimpse of characters that we have known before. The two main characters in this book, Pastor Silas Hamilton and actress Willow Starr, are both people of good character who love God and desire to honor Him in all areas of their lives. Their courtship has some sweet, heart-touching moments and I was cheering for this couple to find their happily-ever-after. But what I loved the most about this story was their steadfast desire to hold to their faith and their willingness to allow God to show them their path through false accusations and trouble. As with the other books in this series, this is a well-written Christian historical fiction book. Once you’ve read this one, you’ll want to read some of the other books in this series. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

Stars in Her Eyes is written by Erica Vetsch.
One of the things that I love most about this author is the fact that she can transport you back in time. Her story is really truly do bring history to life.

This book is set in 1886 Colorado. Silas I absolutely loved. He was a great hero. He had such dedication to his flock and truly showed people with the unconditional love for people looks like. I loved Willow. Also she is loving and generous. I really like that. She tries to see the good and everyone.

I love how the congregation becomes a very divided when it comes to Silas and Willow‘s potential relationship. Silas really wants to show them that she is a good God-fearing woman. I really love how Willow carries herself. She kind of been controlled by her sister who continue to push her to always go farther and do more.

The book is well written. The storyline is engaging. Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

I have loved the first five books from Erica Vetsch's Brides of the West series and was excited to have the opportunity to read the sixth installment, Stars in her Eyes. I adored the main characters, Silas and Willow, and seeing them grow in their faith throughout the story. It was an easy book to read and one that warmed my heart in the end.

I am going to give Stars in her Eyes a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who love to read clea Historical Fiction, particularly from the Western / Frontier era of the United States. I am hoping to continue the seventh addition to the Brides of the West series, Prescription for Love to see what delightful tale Erica Vetsch has written next.

Silas Hamilton, the single pastor of a small church in Martin City, has quite the time avoiding ambitious mothers trying to match him with their daughters, and Mrs. Dabble is the worst. So, when Silas meets actress, Willow Starr, and falls for her, Mrs. Dabble becomes enraged. What happens will test not only the love of Silas and Willow, but get quite a few people involved. Ms. Vetsch touches on the topic of prejudice and self-righteousness throughout the story. This gives the reader something to think about and examine preconceived ideas that can be found in our own lives. It was great to see Silas’s friends rally around him and Willow when they really needed it.

This is part of the Brides of the West series and can be read as a standalone. However, some the characters from previous books are a part of the story, and it’s fun to see them as part of Silas’s life.

I received a complimentary copy of the book through Celebrate Lit. I was not expected to write a positive review.

Silas wanted to pastor a church in a small town but never realized how difficult it would be. He meets Willow down by the creek and is attracted to her right away. She is attracted to him but she doesn’t know he’s a pastor and he doesn’t know she’s an actress. A parishioner makes lots of trouble for Silas mainly because he has rejected her daughter. She is vicious! Willow has her own troubles with her sister. Francine is self centered and seems to always put Willow down. The author portrayed these two nemesis so well that I disliked them right from the start. Problems within the church as well as problems within the thespian troupe add to the issues Silas and Willow face. It finally all comes to a boil. How will it ever work out for all involved?

I have been enjoying reading each of the Brides of the West series and this is no exception. A beautiful story of opposites attract in 1886 Colorado. Pastor Silas is dealing with congregants that want to marry him to their daughter when he meets a beautiful lady when he is out walking by the river. Willow is a traveling actress who has an overbearing sister who controls her life. Can their attraction to each other lead to a lasting connection or heartbreak. A short read that keeps you engaged from the beginning and leaves you wanting it not to end. I loved these characters and their faith as well as their strength to face the challenges that stand in their way. An enjoyable read that has some twists to keep you turning pages.

I enjoyed this engaging story of a small town pastor and the challenge that he faced from his congregation regarding his choice of a wife. Silas Hamilton was well-respected in his church until he met and fell in love with Willow Starr, an actress who was also a Christian. In this story the characters dealt with prejudice, societal expectations, and forgiveness as well as persevering in standing up for themselves. I thought Silas and Willow were wonderful main characters and it was nice to see the Mackenzie family again, lending their support. This book is part of a series (that had been published previously) but can be definitely read as a stand alone.

This is a quick, delightful read! I really enjoyed getting to know Pastor Silas and Willow and getting to revisit characters from the first two books. As sweet and likable as the two of them are, there’s a whole host of side characters that make you want to slap them. I felt so bad for Willow and how her sister treated her, how she had to fend off unwanted advances, and I even felt for her as an introvert trapped in an extrovert’s world. I was so glad so see them stand up for each other and what was right throughout the story instead of being steamrolled. This story is also filled with some really good faith lessons and food for thought.

Set in 1886 Colorado, this story about Willow and Silas is beautifully told. Easily become immersed in the story and love these characters. He's a new pastor to the area and pursued as an eligible bachelor but Willow is the one who snags his heart. She's an actress, so not so desirable to his congregation. He's trying to please his father as well, and she has a domineering and controlling sister. Their journey together is both a stressful and enjoyable page turner.

Stars in her Eyes (Brides of the West Book 9) has a plot that could be true today. Pastor Silas Hamilton has taken a small church in Colorado, with all seeming well until…. With church members unhappy when he meets and falls for an actress, Willow Starr, well, you can imagine the fallout. That problem still holds true for young single pastor today.,

A story of misconceptions, judgements from some and the goodness of God revealing this is a page turning read. I appreciated how Silas believed that he was to answer to God, not his father or the congregation as much. I also appreciated how Willow looked to God for her answers in life too. What a wonderful couple they make.

I enjoyed this book. I liked how we got to see how misconceptions can cause problems for different people. I liked how Silas loved Willow for the good person she was even when others in his congregation judged her based on her profession. I liked how even though they came from different walks of life, they both had a strong faith in God and were able to lift each other up and be a good helpmeet to each other. I also liked how some members of the community did what they could to help others overcome their misconceptions.

If you like books where opposites are attracted to each, then look no farther because this book has a preacher and a play actress falling in love. But it isn't easy for them, there is a mother wanting the preacher for a son in law and a sister that wants something else for her and her sister. This is book 6 of the series, and yes, I think a reader would enjoy this book without reading the others but again I ask why not read them all. I have enjoyed all 6 and will be reading the others to come! Faith is definitely a part of this novel.

What a lovely story with lots of surprises. While Reverend Silas is getting settled in to his new church he is reminded often that he needs a wife and one of his congregation plans for her daughter to be that wife.

Willow is an actress just like her late mother and her older sister. She isn’t really happy in this life but it is all she knows. When she meets Silas she starts to see her future differently.

There are some bad and spoiled characters that will have to be dealt with. Silas and Willow will face judgement and need to trust God and his plans for them.

I enjoyed this book.

Stars in Her Eyes is the third story in the Colorado Dawn trilogy. Even though I haven't read the first two of the series, this seems to work well as a stand alone.

I enjoyed watching the attraction between Willow and Silas grow, while witnessing their faith strengthen. Their interaction with the group of boys from church is sweet to see, too. Because I am involved in children's ministry at church myself, it resonated with me.

If you enjoy sweet Christian romance, with a large dose of faith, this will be an excellent addition to your TBR list.

This is the sixth book in the Brides of the West, but the third book in the part of the series that deals with the Makenzie Silver mines in Martin City, Colorado. We are introduced to Silas in the first book set in Martin City, but we don't actually meet him until this book. I found the book easy and quick to read. It was interesting to see how some people used to view those who were involved with theater. I liked the biblical faith thread throughout the story. I look forward to reading more books by Erica Vetsch.

Review of advance copy received from Publisher
January 12, 2026
The church in Martin City has a single pastor and all the mothers with daughters of marriageable age are vying for him to notice their daughter. There is a new theatre in town and Pastor Silas Hamilton has an invitation to attend the opening performance with several supporting members of his church who are not trying to marry him off. And who should catch his eye, but the young lead in the play.

There is plenty of smoke regarding his questionable actions from those same women providing some levity to the situation. But what will the regional board say? A copy of this wonderful story was received through Wild Heart Books and BookFunnel. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

I’m a sucker for historical western romances and I needed something light after reading a more dense science fiction series. This novel was a good palette cleanser. I appreciated that Willow was a successful actress- I don’t see that in very many Christian historical romance so that was fun. I have several of Erica Vetsch’s books on my TBR- I guess I need to move them up!

I was given a copy of this book for free from Celebrate Lit. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
