A hunter is stalking London’s streets—and Angus Brodie is his final mark.
A constable found dead on his nightly beat. A retired chief inspector slain in his own home. A judge silenced forever in his chambers.
Three murders. One pattern. And one name left on the killer’s Brodie.
Forced back into the shadows of London’s criminal underworld, Brodie must confront an enemy from his past—one who knows his every move. But Mikaela Forsythe refuses to stand aside. Determined to protect him, she launches her own investigation, even as secrets, gangs, and buried grief drive them further apart.
When the killer turns his sights on Mikaela, Brodie faces an impossible stay in the shadows and protect the city, or risk everything to save the one person he cannot lose.
A gripping tale of vengeance, obsession, and love on the edge of darkness.
Wow what an intense case. Three men struck down all from the Met all connected to Brodie and one case in particular. The hunt is on will they catch him before he catches up with them? Very engaging! This one is a wild chase against the clock. The little dog was hilarious if only Mikaela knew what would be in the future lol. Clever, scary, thought provoking and at times heartbreaking. This is the best book so far I think. Absolutely a must read!
“Deadly Revenge” is the latest gripping installment in Carla Simpson’s Angus Brodie and Mikaela Forsythe mystery series. Mikaela tackles a missing jewelry case solo, while Brodie delves into the murder of a close friend from his days at the MET. Despite Brodie’s attempts to keep Mikaela at arm’s length, their paths collide in an investigation that cuts dangerously close to home.
Three of Brodie’s former MET colleagues are dead—victims of a relentless hunter who’s made his intentions painfully clear: Brodie is next. As London’s streets become a predator’s playground, Brodie is forced back into the shadows of the city’s criminal underworld to confront an enemy who seems to anticipate his every move.
Yet, Mikaela refuses to fade into the background. Determined to protect Brodie, she launches her own investigation, even as hidden truths, ruthless gangs, and unresolved grief threaten to drive a wedge between them. The stakes escalate when the killer sets his sights on Mikaela, forcing Brodie to make an impossible choice: remain in the shadows to safeguard the city or risk it all to save the woman he cannot lose.
The intensity of "Deadly Revenge" is unrelenting—each chapter pulses with fierce suspense and raw emotion. The murderer isn't just a faceless villain; he's a desperate adversary with a vendetta, leaving a trail of visceral, personal carnage. More than once, I found myself holding my breath, anxiously flipping pages to uncover what lurked around the next dark corner.
Simpson’s mastery of intricate plotting and compelling character dynamics shines once again. Every book in this series grips you from start to finish, weaving suspense with heartfelt moments. The evolving relationship between Brodie and Mikaela remains a standout—authentic, tender, and deeply moving.
Adding to the charm are stalwart companions: Rupert the loyal hound, the ever-resourceful Lily, the steadfast Munro, and the delightful Aunt Antonia. With Lily’s maturation and the epilogue hinting at a new series featuring her and Munro, the excitement is palpable. It seems we’re in for double the intrigue, double the adventure, and undoubtedly, double the heart.
"Deadly Revenge" isn’t just another mystery—it’s a masterclass in tension, character depth, and storytelling that leaves you craving more.

Wow, Carla has done it again, giving us a story with tons of suspense, danger, and evil. If you haven’t read any of the books yet, it would be best if they were read in order, so you understand the history of Brodie and Mikaela. If not, you will still enjoy this story of Revenge. Brodie has just been told an old friend and member of the met he use to work with has been killed on his beat. The same one he had walked for years with his partner and was now ready to retire. Brodie sets out to investigate on his own. It’s not long before there have been two more people he worked with killed. A retired Chief Inspector in his home and A Judge in his chambers! They are dealing with a suspect who knows how to enter anything with ease. The three people killed along with Brodie worked on the same cases, is he next? Knowing he will have to go into the shadow underworld to get answers, he doesn’t want Mikaela there. She has her own case to work on finding a missing very expensive necklace for a high member of the ton. With help from Munro, and Mr. Dooley Brodie is gone a lot looking for clues and why the murders were carried out viciously with determination to cause much pain before death. Mikaela launches her own investigation after solving her case. Not knowing what danger, she is putting herself and Rupert the hound in. Will Brodie learn what she has done in time to save her? How could he go on without the only women who understands him? Wow, so much suspense, evil, danger, with a vicious, mad man on the loose. All the characters we’ve come to love to show up Great Aunt Antonia of course, Mr. Cavendish, Lila, the girl she took under her wing and many more. Get your copy and get started, bring tissues along and get ready for a roller coaster ride. So many twists and turns, some good, some sad and will make a change for the following books and what sounds like a new series starting with Lily and Munro. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.
I love this series so much, especially how in tune Angus Brodie and Mikaela Forsythe are with each other. The story commences with Mikaela having to finish her investigation into the missing necklace on her own as while Brodie is “hired” by his late former MET colleague’s wife to find out who murdered her husband just as he was completing his late-night shift for the evening. Brodie must return to the “underworld” of his former life to try to find the perpetrator. While he commences the investigation, more constables are killed by a murderer who has a vendetta to settle!
Angus tries to keep Mikaela away from the investigation, unfortunately this this is impossible, especially when her own investigation into the missing necklace is solved. When he does not want her to get involved, Mikaela decides to conduct her own investigation, and this exposes her identity to the murderer! Action packed, fast paced, nail biting, exciting story that had me flipping pages, and only able to release my breath when the murderer was brought to justice, Mikaela and Brodie were safe and all was once more right with the world!
I thoroughly enjoyed the story and look forward with eager anticipation to the next in the series. I received an ARC from the publishers and Booksprout and submit my honest review voluntarily.
This historical mystery is consistently wonderful and at 15 books has stood the test of time. The progression of relationships, both of the mains and the supporting cast, has been a joy to watch and seamlessly executed. The plots have been engaging and action-packed. The sense of place always feels visceral and adds so much to the feel of the books overall.
Having said all of this, I hope that there will be many more adventures with Mikaela and Brodie. I honestly don't think I'd ever tire of visiting in their world. This book's ending, however, introduces the hint of a new series from the author featuring two of the side characters from this series, Lily and Munro. While yes, I am excited about this new venture (as I enjoy both Lily and Munro), I'm also a little apprehensive that this might be signaling an end to the Brodie/Mikaela series...I certainly hope that's not the case. Hopefully there's room for both series in the author's life.
If you enjoy historical mysteries with some romance thrown in, I highly recommend this series.
Mikaela and Brodie are neck deep in this tale. Mikaela is dealing with missing jewelry and Brodie with the murder of a good friend from the MET force. The story jumps right in with a viciousness that leaves you breathless and the entire story had me on the edge of my seat . Some hard things happen here that will hurt your heart and some things that will make your heart melt. I love how Brodie and Mikaela’s relationship is sweetly written with little touches some wouldn’t notice. The climax is frightening and somewhat grisly and the epilogue announces a new series. Truly love this couple and enjoy their adventures.

Ice cold revenge One constable murdered. Then a retired Chief Inspector. Would there be a connection with the escape of a prisoner, Edward Blackwood, from the hospital where he was treated for a medical condition. Brodie doesn’t believe in coincidences. The murders happen to touch individuals who have participated in the investigation and arrest of Blackwood all those years ago. Brodie included, as he was starting at the Met at the time. When a judge connected to the same case is murdered in his chambers, there can be no doubt anymore. It means that Brodie – and by association Mikaela – are in danger. Time is of the essence before other people fall to the madman. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Once again Mikaela and Brodie are drawn into a case that is deeply personal. This time, those that Brodie once worked with at the Met are being killed.
This book is told in the dual perspectives of Mikaela and Brodie. That works perfectly in this case because they don’t have a lot of time together in this book.
Rupert, of course, is a hero again in this book. He is one of my favorite characters.
Aunt Antonia, Lily, and Munro also make appearances.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to not only the new one in this series, but the first one in a new spin off series.

Another amazing read. These books, I read as soon as I get them and find it hard to put down. I enjoy how Ms Simpson, weaves the past into the story without making it too much for those who have read all the past books. If you have not read any of the past books, this one can be read as a stand alone. It is a gripping tale, with murder mystery and suspense. The characters are wonderfully written and the story very easy to follow. This one ends with a very interesting start to the next book. So now we wait anxiously for the next one. I received this as an ARC from Booksprout and freely give my review.
Mikaela and Angus are their own separate investigations. Mikaela is looking for some missing jewelry. Angus is investigating the deaths of three men who have a connection with a case from the past, a case that is connected with Angus while he was with the MET, and he has a target on his back too. Not wanting Mikaela to get involved, he tries to keep her out of it, but nothing will keep her from having his back and being at his side while he faces an enemy who seems to know what his every move will be. Interesting mystery that kept me wondering what was going to happen next.

Deadly Revenge by Carla Simpson has Brodie and Mykaela investigating two cases, one is deeply personal and extremely dangerous. This historical mystery has an intricate plot, yet I found it easy to follow. I haven’t had the opportunity to read all of the series but have no problem keeping up with the characters or the cases. It is the characters, especially Angus Brodie and Mykaela Forsythe and the dynamics between them that keeps me reading. This mystery sheds light on Brodie’s past since it has now come back to haunt him. This is another enjoyable addition to the ones that I have read.
I have enjoyed the series and look forward to more. The book does end with some cliffhangers, but the main two mysteries are completed in the book. I did figure out the bad guy early on and his motive, but it was intriguing to watch how the plot developed. The smaller case with the missing necklace was a humorous escapade.

This was very good and addicting. When someone Brodie looked up to is killed, he starts looking into the murder. Mikaela is tied up with a missing necklace to Brodie's relief. Two more people turn up dead. All are connected to a case Brodie was on. The killer is out for revenge, and the ultimate revenge will involve Mickaela andcBrodie.
I loved this installment. I have had a hard time getting into books recently. This book brought my love of reading back. It was so good, so intense, I definitely ignored my need for sleep in order to read. I’m curious about the spinoff series with Lily and Munro. I’m hoping that Carla is still devotes enough time to this series.
“Deadly Revenge” by Carla Simpson is a captivating entry in a beloved historical murder mystery series. The dynamic duo, Brodie and Mykaela, keeps readers hooked from start to finish. The plot is both thrilling and thought-provoking, making it easy to follow even if you haven’t read all the books in the series. The setting is perfectly suited to the story, with descriptions that bring it to life. The dialogue is spot-on for each character and the time period, adding to the authenticity of the narrative. Overall, it’s a fantastic read for anyone who enjoys historical mysteries.
Another fabulous murder mystery where Angus and Mikaela must find who is hunting and killing people in law enforcement a constable, a chief Inspector and now a judge. Can they find tge culprit before they strike again.
As always, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The investigations are getting more involved, and Mikaela and Brodie are living and working together more seamlessly. Rupert is almost the main character and totally full of personality.
Great mystery story set in the 1800's. Very engaging and great plot. Each character was realistic and the clues allowed the reader to try and solve the mystery before the end.

Brodie and Mikaela latest adventure along with their band of friends was an outstanding read. Revenge is always a wonderful topic for a book. The teaser for the next book involving Lily and Munro has me anticipating the next instalment.
Victorian crime spree with Brodie next. Mikaela is putting in her Miss Scarlett hat and doing her own investigation to protect him. Lots of gritty suspense. Recommend.
