Science taught Iggy to ask questions—magic taught her to believe.
Ten-year-old Iggy doesn’t believe in magic. There’s always a scientific explanation—at least, there will be, once she solves her two biggest her mom’s strange illness and the hazy memory of her dad disappearing into an antique mirror. She’ll find her answers—but they’ll come at a cost. When tragedy strikes, the mirror awakens. But instead of her dad, Iggy finds an injured fairy girl begging for help. How can Iggy help an imaginary girl in an imaginary world? None of it is scientifically possible. But the fairy doesn’t care if Iggy believes in her or not. She has a mission for Iggy that launches her into a world where magic is real, her ancestry is royal and dark, and a sorcerer is rising to claim power. To stop the sorcerer, save her mom, and reunite her family, Iggy must start believing in magic—and in herself. She didn’t choose this path or her family’s dark secrets, but she can choose who she becomes.
This was a lovely read!!! Iggy is such a unique and fun protagonist, and I honestly loved how genre unaware she was, it was delightful. And the world building was so cool!!!
An unforgettable adventure awaits! Iggy’s journey is like no other- twists and turns, magical realms, a grumpy wizard, a pet dragon, & a dangerous quest to save her family. Enjoy the ride!
I received an ARC copy of this book, and am leaving my free and honest review!
This story was absolutely magnificent!! I loved the way it started out and slowly grew into a portal fantasy. So many portal fantasties throw you immediately into the new world (which I do love) but this one took its own time in building up to that, and I really liked it! It gave us time to get to know Iggy and her mom and other companions
Speaking of whom, I adored all the characters. Iggy was such a fascinating character—a girl who loves science going on a magical adventure? Brilliant concept!! And she was so sweet and stubborn. Oona and Quinn were adorable, and Jo was a grumpy legend. I loved the minor characters we encountered, too!
The world building and plot were both brilliant—Mystral feels unlike any world I've ever encountered before, and I love it a lot. I was absolutely fascinated to read more about Iggy's destiny, and after that ending I am HYPED for book 2!! All in all, I highly recommend this book to anyone in need of a middle grade fantasy story (and really, who isn't?)! It's well written, clean, and an amazing story!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this story! It’s middle grade since the MC is 10. The worldbuilding was really nice and I enjoyed Iggy as a character. It’s a nice quick read about finding strength in unexpected ways! There were lots of twists and fun (although sad) surprises.
