When Zyra signs to Demon Records, she doesn’t just get a deal — she gets pulled into Maniak’s world, with a world of diamonds, danger, and a man whose love cuts as sharp as his power.
Maniak was tall and stocky and was over four hundred pounds. The more weight Maniak loses, the more lethal he becomes — quicker on his feet, sharper in his moves, hungrier to prove he’s still untouchable. And yet, even as his enemies fear the new menace he’s become, Zyra finds herself wrapped tighter in his grip.
He told her not to catch feelings. She told herself she wouldn’t. But the thinner his waistline, the heavier his presence in her life — and the harder it is to escape.
Get ready to tap in. Meet Maniak & Zyra. And get ready for the legacy that’s about to shake the whole city of Los Angeles.
I feel like it’s one thing to have a style, a favorite setting ect but this author just continues to follow the same formula with minimal twist and changes. All her MMCs are disturbed and mentally off they don’t give book bae or anything to swoon over just demented lil boys trying to make something out of nothing and it’s commendable until we get to the relationships. Like sorry they be teetering the line toward abusive and I’m not into that. Then they always just feel shallow like the emotional pull and depth is just never enough. FMCs be birds they start off tough, have something going for them and by the end they just birds. She’s a great writer and I feel like she captures a Cali essence well but the stories just feel the same.
This book was a wild ride from start to finish. Zyra's story hit hard; a young homeless girl chasing her shot at the music game, hungry for a way out and ready to prove she's more than the hand life dealt her. Then comes Maniak, the manager with demons so heavy they shaped his whole name. He's unhinged, heartless, and built walls so high around himself you'd think nothing could break through. Losing the love of his life twisted him into a menace, and he swore off love, family, and kids forever. Robin But the universe had other plans. The way Robin brought Zyra and Maniak together was raw and real Rating pain, passion, trauma, and love all tangled up. Zyra's grind and determination gave Maniak a reason to feel again, even when he tried to fight it. Their chemistry wasn't soft or sweet, it was fire and chaos, but it worked because it felt true to who they were. This isn't your typical love story. It's urban, it's gritty, and it shows how even the most broken, dangerous man can find light in the most unexpected place. Robin didn't just write a romance -this is survival, healing, and love in its most forbidden form.
Life trauma can cause more harm than good. Sometimes the consequences for your actions can affect those closest to you. The life you live should never affect those close to you. Past trauma can hinder future endeavors if allowed. Let’s chat!!
Dravon, was in and about that life until life made a drastic change😭. With that change, he was no longer himself as many knew him. He became Maniak, a mean, cocky, arrogant and about that life🫣. The way his name whispered in them streets had people shock and turning the other cheek. Ya boy became the storm no one wanted to see coming. Y’all your boy had me ready to box with a man🫣. He was rude and mean for no reason😡. Please don’t get me wrong he knew what he was doing when it came to the music industry. Having that ear for music/talent with the help of his right hand Problem, he came across that one who had him rethinking how he handled life - ZYRA (all caps 🤣). Though he didn’t want to accept it, my guy was smitten by her from jump🥹 and I loved it. The way he treated women had me irritated, but the way them demons were haunting him had me with one eye opened at all times. With all that he was dealing with, he still made sure ZYRA was straight. Not only that learning that he rethinking how he looked at life actually put a smile on my face and I want that for him. The way the author explained his character reminded me of someone I once knew🫣 and shown the trauma and demons he was dealing is exactly what some deal with in this world today. Now with ZYRA doing a disappearing act solely based off his initial statement has my guy ready to flip stuff and I need to know what’s going to happen 🫣!
ZYRA ( all caps), is a lyricist that having it hard in life. Losing her mother and being abandoned by her father had your girl living a rough life😔. When I say rough, I mean just that. What I loved the most was your hustle to make it. My girl did she needed to do to survive but never thought she would be present with a life changing opportunity - working with and along side Maniak🫣. Look as excited as she was, she didn’t know he was as mean and rude, but the way my girl tuck her tail at time but she also stood up for herself🤏🏾! When she would challenge him I started laughing 🤣! One thing for sure, she never had to question him when said he would do something cause ya boy stood behind his word🤏🏾. Now look the way the author described and explained her life was tier🥰. I say that cause we hear about it in real life every day. Continuing on, my girl was mainly focus on survival but lost, needs and wants start to play a factor and baby did it. Not only that when her secret was out on who her father was and the issue he had with the label Demon Record it was all bad but when I say Maniak step up, he did just that and listen I was here for all that action 🫣! When all said and DON’T lines were crossed and consequences has surfaced but I’m needing to know how it all played out. Ya girl has added to the shenanigans and I hope she ready for the storm brewing🫣!
Sienna, at first I honestly didn’t like her 🫣! Thought she was good to be on that mess but ole girl shocked me. When Maniak changed as time went on she did too🥰. The thing I’m happy she didn’t change about was with ZYRA. The bond they created and build 🤏🏾! My girl standing 10 toes down for ZYRA and I love it!
Problem, he was that friend was going to tell you how it is and the way he read Maniak was everything for me 🥰! He didn’t sugar coat anything with him at all. Now what I will say is, I think there’s more to him🫣! Not completely sure but have this feeling, however, only time will tell!
Amir, just a mark at its finest. The dislike he carries toward Maniak is diabolical😒. He stressing behind a woman that don’t want him. Then his step sister Cyran is going to be his downfall🫣. When all said and done they both have a “You” issue with a man that’s not even looking for them🤏🏾. So I’m ready to see how this plays out cause the drama they caused will be both of their downfall.
The way I ate this up🫣. Robin has yet to disappoint and I’ve been rocking with her for some time now. One thing she’s going to do is write about the music industry and I love it🥰. Can’t wait for book 2 cause I need to know what going to happen. With Maniak against love, battling his demons and starting to questioning his life dos and don’t, I just need to know the outcome 🫣! YA girl nervous but ready for it!
Now first things first, I usually do not go for bully romances. Sometimes they just be doing too much and I check out. But babbbyyyy, Maniak? He could bully me into a soft life at this point. Let me go ahead and say it loud as hell....ya gurl was HERE for it.
ZYRA (ALL CAPS) & Maniak = Chaos That Feels Like Fate. ZYRA is in survival mode, trying to keep it cute, keep it quiet, and just get by without catching any unnecessary smoke. But fate said, “Nah, sis.” And just like that, Maniak enters the picture with that intense, trauma-fueled, protective, I-don’t-play-about-you kind of energy. This man is carrying heavy scars, both mentally and emotionally, and instead of hiding them he bulldozes through life… until he meets ZYRA.
They start off like two broken pieces trying not to connect… but failing at all that because its magnetic in that studio! . Maniak sees something in Zyra that pulls him in deeper, even when he tries to push her away. And Zyra... baby girl starts realizing that for the first time in a long time, life ain’t just dragging her. Something is finally clicking… and it’s clicking with him. She opens up piece by piece and the way Maniak breaks his own rules to let her in? Y’all. Y’ALL.
That Ending Though…Why would Robin do us like this??? Because she is a menace!! Because if that book starts how I think it’s about to start… yeah. The city is gonna BURN.
Girl… let me tell you about a man who had his heart ripped out of his chest so hard, he never came back from it. Not until he met her.
Maniak lost the love of his life, and their unborn child, when he was still young. And after that? He went cold. Hard. Ruthless. The streets named him Maniak for a reason. And even once he entered the music industry, scouting new talent and building a name, that grief never let up. He used women. Controlled everything. Slept with one eye open, if he slept at all.
Then there’s Zyra. Dark past. No family. No safety net. Homeless, but hungry for more. When Maniak first hears her performing on the street, she feels his presence before they even meet. And when their paths finally do cross again? Everything shifts.
This story is wild in the best way. A man terrified to open his heart. A woman trying to escape the struggle. Enemies on all sides who want to see them both fall. And somehow, in all the chaos? They find a kind of family neither of them expected.
So yes, I was 100% invested.
That’s why I’m giving Marked With A Forbidden Maniak’s Legacy a That Girl Score of 5 out of 5 stars. Keep reading to see why. 🍎
Star 1: The Plot → We’ve got an MMC who’s controlling, cold, and unapologetically toxic. Maniak doesn’t just use women. He sets the rules and they willingly follow, hoping they’ll be the one to change him. Spoiler: they’re not.
But when Zyra steps into the picture? Yeah… she doesn’t play by his rules. She makes her own. And when I tell you she let him know that to his face? I was in.
I stayed invested in this plot for a few reasons: - The Characters (which I get into in Star 2, whew...) - The Worldbuilding — if you’ve read Robin before, you know the thrill of recognizing a name. She weaves her universe together so seamlessly that when familiar characters show up, it feels like family walking into the room. - The Layers — This wasn’t just a romance. It was a story of artistic discovery, emotional sabotage, hidden betrayals, and deep, complex secrets slowly coming to light. It was messy, intimate, and damn good.
Every time I picked it up, I didn’t want to stop. Sleep? Ignored. Work? Delayed. That’s a full star from me. No question.
Star 2: The Characters → Robin earned this star. No hesitation.
I've been rocking with her since Kairo and Vanna had me in a chokehold in the Phantom League series. And baby, she hasn’t missed. Not once. She’s not new to this—she’s true to this. Her pen? Sharp. Steady. Mastered.
This story hooked me from the beginning. Maniak as an MMC? I was immediately in. Robin doesn’t just write characters—she writes entire psychological profiles, and I’m always here for the analysis. Maniak’s backstory is dark. Like, insomnia-since-childhood dark. Light-sensitive. Isolated. His body’s not even functioning like it should, and his mind? Whew. It’s not just that he’s controlling—it’s why. And once you see it? You get it. You might still wanna slap him, but baby… you’ll understand him.
And Zyra? I knew from the moment they met she was the disruption he needed. She’s got her own shadows, her own storm—but Robin doesn’t spell it out. You feel it in how Zyra moves. In how she holds her boundaries. In the silence between her sentences.
And the world? Familiar faces. Interconnected stories. Side characters that made me open my Kindle app mid-read to add their books to my TBR. Emery, Sienna, Rico? Yeah. I’m invested.
Robin earned this star. Off Maniak alone.
Star 3: Writing Style → Not a single typo pulled me out.
No confusion. No clunky transitions. Just smooth, intentional storytelling from top to bottom.
Robin has mastered her pen — and what’s more, she’s mastered her voice. You know a Robin book the second you’re in it. Not just by the cover, but by the cadence. By the way she lets her characters speak for themselves without over-explaining. By the way she holds space for heat and heartbreak in the same paragraph.
She’s not trying to sound like anyone else. And that’s exactly why her writing stands out.
Full star. With ease.
Star 4: Emotional Impact → This book had me psychoanalyzing characters and defending them in the group chat. That’s when you know, Robin got me.
I found myself feeling everything. I was side-eyeing certain characters heavy. There are a couple I do not trust at all. I was cheering for Zyra, clapping at her boundaries. And Maniak? Whew. I was out here defending his toxic ass because Robin made him make sense. Even when he was outta line, I understood the why.
And that moment when he called Zyra out in front of everybody? I felt secondhand embarrassed. I closed my Kindle like sir, please. Emotionally gripped is an understatement.
As for spice, there’s not a ton, but when it hits? It hits. And more importantly, it moves the plot forward. It’s intentional. Purposeful. And just enough.
Robin earned this star. Again.
Star 5: World-Building → Robin’s world already feels real to me because I’ve lived in it through so many of her books. But even if this was your first? You’d feel it.
This story, like many of hers, is rooted in California. But not just any California — her California. The one where Black people exist across the spectrum. You’ll see trap houses and mansions. Street corners and private estates. There’s grit and luxury, and she writes both with care.
What really sets her apart is that every place has a vibe. It’s not just about scenic detail. It’s about how the people speak, how they move, how they hold power or pain in certain spaces.
The dialogue, the energy, the way characters carry their city with them? It all layers into the setting. Every time I stepped into a scene, I felt placed. Robin earned this star. Fully.
“Maniak said ‘for better or worse’ and meant the WORST.” 🖤
This book was intense from start to finish. Zyra’s story pulled me in with all the emotion and grit you expect from urban romance, but Maniak? He’s the type of character that’ll have you questioning yourself. The writing makes you feel the chaos — the smoke in the air, the heartbreak, the danger around every corner. I liked how the author didn’t sugarcoat the darker sides of love and loyalty. If you want something that’s not just romance but raw, messy, and full of power plays, this one delivers.
“You thought you were ready for my world? Nah. This book? It’s only a piece of it. Blood, loyalty, betrayal — that’s everyday for me. But Zyra? She stepped in and proved she’s more than just another girl. She’s mine. Read it if you’re bold enough, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. I don’t play nice.”
Marked with a Forbidden Maniak’s Legacy by Author Robin delivers everything I love in a dark bully romance danger, obsession, and chemistry that burns off the page. Zyra’s strength and defiance made her easy to root for, while Maniak’s mix of cruelty and passion had me hooked from the start.
Robin’s writing is sharp and immersive, painting a picture of a world where every choice comes with a price. The atmosphere is intense, the emotions are raw, and the twists had my heart racing. This isn’t just a bully romance it’s a full-on plunge into obsession, loyalty, and the scars of love that can never heal clean.
If you love dark romances with anti-heroes who make you question your sanity, heroines who refuse to break, and a story that keeps your pulse pounding, this book is a must-read. I can’t wait to see what Author Robin gives us next.
Whew… this book had me in a CHOKEHOLD from page one. Zyra “Spitfire” and Dravon “Maniak” are the kind of toxic, magnetic, can’t-look-away duo that will ruin your TBR in the best way.
Robin drags you straight into a world of luxury and grit—studio lights, back-alley danger, and that delicious line where love and obsession blur. Maniak is pure chaos wrapped in control, and Zyra? That girl got fire in her chest and venom on her tongue… until he makes her swallow every bit of it.
The chemistry? 🔥🔥🔥 The tension? Knife-sharp. The writing? Like a track you can’t stop replaying—slick, dangerous, and addictive.
If you like your romance dark, your heroes morally gray, and your heroines fighting their own hearts, this book will leave you breathing heavy and begging for the next hit.
What he has been through the author Robin wrote this perfectly for a man who you are truly trying to portray as a man who goes through life with an ice cold heart . It also shows women who goes along with a man to have a piece of a man . Then you bring in zyra the so called bum. But she has stuff to lose and maniak crazy tail calls lil bum.
These two about to take us on a ride . And zyra about to show everybody even the haters how not to let a man change your true self . But still elevate in life
And Maniak zyra about to show him … it’s time to heal my boy !!!
Get ready these two are not ready for each other , but need each other for all the sh** life is about to throw there way !!
Now, THIS is how you kick off a series because to be a fly on the wall at Demon Records…WHEW! Marked with a Forbidden Maniak’s Legacy is a gritty, high-stakes bully romance where music, power, and obsession collide. Zyra’s raw talent meets Maniak’s ruthless control in a story that’s unapologetically dark, raw, and addictive. Set against Los Angeles’ gritty backdrop, the Demon Records music scene feels authentic and alive with tension. The romance? Equal parts explosive chemistry and emotional stakes with a splash of WTF. The secrets, lies, and audacity...TUH...I know you f*cking lying! Fans of urban romance with street-level realism, razor-sharp dialogue, obsessive, unhinged alpha males TAP IN!!
Maniak’s pain was felt throughout every page of this novel. His grit as well as his hesitance to take those steps with ZYRA. His insomnia had me drained lol !
ZYRA just makes me feel like you wrote my story. I could feel her hunger through the pages I felt how bad she wanted to win in the beginning and I felt her open up and let people in. Thank you for making Sienna a thing but bitter that was a highlight for me. I truly felt like a fly on the wall for this story! I can’t wait to see what comes next because that CLIFFHANGER o m g .🩵🩵🩵🩵
All i can say is this is definitely fast paced. Things start crazy as soon as you start reading. Maniak is his name and he lives up to it. He is not taking any disrespect from anyone and his control is always needed until ZYRA. Zyra is her own person been taking care of herself for a long time then came Maniak. I honestly knew she would be different in his life just from how they interacted and how he interacted with her. As crazy as it was calling her a bum it never felt malicious. Overall this was a true Robin story which I love!!.
I kinda went into this read blind but I have been waiting on it since all the promo… Robin did not disappoint and I can’t wait to see this all unravel because hunny will right now it’s so many moving parts… I do love Dravon and Zyra together they add depth to each others character but that damn Cryan and YN Rico is on that bs right along with that cliffhanger
We meet Maniak, a bully in every sense of the word. Whether it’s the streets, the studio, or the bedroom, what he says goes — no questions asked. Then he meets Zyra, his “lil bum,” whose flow is pure fire she just needs a little light to make her shine. In the first book, we see the constant push and pull between them. He doesn’t want to want her. She’s not trying to be another one of his conquests, and she’s determined to stand her ground when it comes to him.
Maniak went through a traumatic experience that made his heart cold. Some people make think his methods of dealing with his pain are unorthodox, but people deal with their pain differently. Zyra was homeless and he provided her with an opportunity to because a rap artist with him as her manager. Working close together made their feelings for each other grow, but with a name like Maniak nothing would be easy. This book moves fast and ends on a cliffhanger. I would def recommend
Just when I think she can't get any better she starts this new fire *** series!!!! Maniak is something else he needs a shrink. This book is so good I couldn't stop reading til I finished. Robin definitely has a way with words and will leave your mouth open and speechless til her next book!!!
Maniak is still packing baggage from a previous experience but can’t deny the pull he has with Zyra. Will he get a chance to express to her the feelings he has been having? Will she be able to look over his previous comments and move forward? Will Rico get what is coming to him? I don’t know but I will be waiting on book 2 to get answers!
So Maniak is just that! He's mean got rules and DGAF! ZYRA all caps is coming with that strong female energy life has tried to beat her down and couldn't she dont let nobody run her over. These 2 got a thin line between love and hate type thing! Give me book 2 ASAP
This is my fist time reading one of Robin’s books and I really enjoyed it. I appreciate the open communication from Maniak and ZYRA from the start. No dragging things out or keeping important secrets. I am looking forward to the next book! Maniak is growing on me. Hurt people hurt people.
I absolutely devoured this book 📚 The ending wasn’t what I expected. I loved the dynamic between the MMC and FMC. This bully romance was perfect and I loved the character development
The book had me at the first charter. It was a quick read for me because of the drama. Maniak was like a lot of young men. Something happens to them. Then they go wild and cold. I hope he survives and he finds his girl and baby.
I can't wait for more of this good read. The drama, lies, secrets and trauma are so well written. These characters are dealing with so much and it's driving them crazy and I am loving it all. This author definitely delivers a fire read.
Been in a reading slump while waiting on some releases and stumbled upon Author Robin. Could hardly put it down...just one more chaptered myself into insomnia and now I'm dog tired starting book 2!
I've read the whole series. But I always loop back to book #1. To leave my review on the series as a whole. ANYWAY, This is my 1st but not last read from Robin. I loved Maniak & ZYRA(all caps)
