On a dark and deadly night, The Huntress was born.
Carmen Reyes has been lost in the dark depths of grief for over two years. Her heart, once full of bright joy for a life she never imagined having, is now black and cold. All she sees—all she craves—is revenge.
When a small midwest town experiences a string of bizarre animal attacks, Carmen sees the unmistakeable opportunity for what it is—retribution. She embarks on a deadly mission, ready to end things once and for all, but she's surprised to find more than she bargained for. Beneath the light of an ominous blood moon, she's forced to make a decision that could change the trajectory of her life and cost her everything she's worked for.
Michaela Jean Taylor is a hopeless romantic from the western desert who writes grippingly tender romance novels featuring diverse characters and messy, beautifully relatable storylines.
I’m not too sure what to make of this one. I think it’s the way that it’s marketed as FF romance is my biggest issue. It’s not NOT FF but the book mainly follows Carmen with flashbacks to a previous relationship and then with the other FMC making an appearance in the last 10-15% of the books (which isn’t every long considering this is only 95 pages). I would say this is more paranormal suspense with a subplot of romance.
That said I didn’t hate this. Carmen is a very strong character who is wrecked with grief while getting her revenge. I think the author did a wonderful job exploring her struggle of how to move on after losing someone you love.
This is also super Supernatural coded with an Impala and all the Winchester nods which I loved since I’m a fan of the show.
I think if the author plans on expanding this story that she should consider making this a series of full length books.
Thank you to Michaela Jean Taylor for sharing an advanced copy with me!
Michaela has created such an interesting concept for a novella series where each story is shared like an episode. I cannot wait to see where this goes! The supernatural vibes throughout the story were immaculate. I really felt like I was watching my favorite show unfold. What I didn’t expect was seeing the immense grief our FMC was going through after losing the love of her life. Revenge was at the top of her mind, but I can’t help but enjoy when things don’t go according to plan in the best of ways. The perfect novella for spooky season!
It’s hard to rate novellas, but this was a 10/10 No Notes! The last 40% flew by and was action packed. I actually was a bit anxious waiting to see how it would all play out. This is like an episode of a tv show and I can’t wait for her to release the next one! Check your trigger warnings. Also I wouldn’t say that werewolves stories were something I’d be interested in but I ate this up! Thanks to Michaela Jean Taylor for the advanced copy!
I’m not usually a fan of novellas but I was so captivated by this story! Revenge on werewolves is definitely not something you read every day but man I was invested in Carmen’s adventure and the ending?! Didn’t see that coming!
This is the first in a series of novellas being released as “episodes” and this was a great set up for the next one!
if you know me, you know how much i love michaela's writing. this book is such a fun genre switch for her and i really enjoyed it! it's a spooky little sapphic novella about werewolves so obviously i loved every second of it. i can't wait to see where the rest of these books go and to see the story unfold!!
