I stumbled across this book at Walmart, and I’m glad I decided to pick it up. Alice walks you through her adventure, with lots of advice on how to navigate Wonderland.
Every page is beautifully illustrated with comments from the Cheshire Cat all throughout. Other characters add their own notes too, each with a different font and colour to distinguish them. The way the pages are formatted makes the book feel engaging. Especially since occasionally, you have to turn the book upside down or sideways to read. There are a few maze style puzzles towards the end, but not enough to count this as an activity book.
It expands the world-building of Wonderland too! There are pages dedicated to certain characters as well as all the plants, animals and objects you’ll find in Wonderland. There’s even instructions on how to throw your own mad tea party, courtesy of the Mad Hatter and March Hare. It hints towards the Looking-Glass World, and characters that didn’t appear in the movie. Such as doors leading to other places in Wonderland including . And characters such as the
All in all, this was a great read, and I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the movie (and books). If there was one thing I’d change however, it’s the fact that the pages are not numbered. It has an official page count, but there are plenty of things to read (from Alice) even before the title, and table of contents (which is also not numbered). The lack of numbering makes it difficult to keep track of how far you are, since it’s difficult to tell where the pages count starts. But this shouldn’t be much trouble because it’s mostly pictures, and you can easily finish it in one day.
