The Redemption series is one of my favorite Christian series! I read this series when my grandma was diagnosed with cancer so I related to the Baxter family.I love how Karen Kingsbury used bible verses in with the stories to help you understand verses with what's going on I'm our lives daily! I give this series a rating of five and if you haven't read it you definitely should!
This series is wonderful, the first one started out a little slow for me- but by forty percent I was all in. Each book brought both tears and joy, very inspirational.
(Synopsis below review) I was going to review each book separately, but this is not so much a 5 book series as it is one VERY long book of overlapping stories, which is left with an unfinished story at the end.
This is my first Karen Kingsbury book (series). This one is co-authored by Gary Smalley so it may not have been the best choice for a first book by Karen Kingsbury for me. I say this because Gary is a counselor and I read fiction more for pleasure. I do really appreciate an undercurrent of faith; that’s why Julie Lessman has got to be my current favorite author – because she does such a good job of combining faith and passion. I do look forward to reading more of Karen’s books because I have a feeling that the books that she’s authored by herself may do just that. In this book however, ‘the message’ being conveyed to the reader was so important to the authors that they didn’t want it to be missed and it was spelled out repeatedly…to the point that I found myself skimming, rather than reading, many of the paragraphs.
I liked the characters and the stories. It did get a bit repetitive – repetitive thoughts and feelings – and I’m guessing that’s because of it being a study, not just a fictional book. It covers just about every situation a person could face and how a Christian might get through it. And also frequently addressed believers who stray and return. The thoughts and feelings are what you’d expect to experience in the given situations… and the outcomes as well. Sometimes God answers our prayers the way we want and other times, we need to accept His way/plan.

#1 Redemption: When Kari Baxter Jacobs finds out that her husband is involved in an adulterous relationship and wants a divorce, she decides she will love him and remain faithful to her marriage at all costs. This book shows how God can redeem seemingly hopeless relationships, and it illustrates one of Gary Smalley’s key messages: Love is a decision.
#2 Remember: Convinced she could make it on her own, Ashley Baxter has kept the most important people in her life at a distance—her family, the man who loves her, and the God she is sure can never forgive her. Now, just as she begins to open her heart, the events of September 11 rip into Ashley’s world and she is led to heartbreaking and hope-filled decisions that will forever change her life. This story vividly illustrates that we must value others more than ourselves, and it drives home one of Gary Smalley’s key messages: Honor one another.
#3 Return: This touching novel reunites readers with the Baxter family and focuses on the only Baxter son, Luke. He is determined to leave his faith and his past behind and embrace a new, free-thinking future. But what he doesn’t realize is that his past holds a secret even he doesn’t know. When Luke finds out, his comfortable new life is turned upside down, and he must turn back to his roots.
#4 Rejoice (2005 Gold Medallion Award finalist): In the continuing saga of the Baxter family, Brooke Baxter has achieved everything this world has to offer—a prestigious career, a beautiful home, and two wonderful children. Her recent return to her faith is an encouragement to her family. But if she faces tremendous loss, can her fledgling faith and her rocky marriage survive?
#5 Reunion (2005 Gold Medallion Award finalist): This touching story allows us to see into the lives of the Baxter family as Erin and Sam attempt to adopt a child. As the family looks forward to a heartwarming reunion, they find out that Mr. and Mrs. Baxter have a secret that could change their lives forever.
This series showed me a whole new world.the realistic aspects of the stories were simply stunning.it spoke to me about faith and the values of life.the characters are very human with the fallacies and faults and vulnerabilities.at the same time they are presented as strong willed, loyal and with the strengths of being human.the characters were tested at various times ,at various levels.yet they remained true to their values and beliefs and persevered.the strongest point of these books is that I donot find a specific villain character.because humans are capable of both good and bad.to portray someone as villain just for the sake of story is not something that I applaud.therefore I found these series satisfying for many reasons.
These books will make you cry, laugh, and smile all through them! I have never read Karen Kingsbury until just recently, but I will definitely keep reading her books, they are wonderful! They are the start of the Baxter family, you get to know the 5 kids, Brooke, Kari, Ashley, Luke and Erin, along with their parents, Elizabeth and John. Their lives are amazing, it’s a family I wish that I had grown up in! These are Christian books, with God, Jesus, praying, and Bible verses in them. They are great books, highly recommended!
Loved to go deeper into a family dynamic that was centered around Christ during tough times. Showed how many Christian families might seem to have it all together but are actually struggling with the same things non believers do as well. Inspired me to raise a family like this one with the same morals and beliefs.
Through hard marriages, dealing with tough life choices and everyday life, there is hope in all situations. The theme of redemption truly rings through the whole series. These books made me laugh, cry and feel sorrow. But, in the end m, God’s love is shown through each and every situation. I can’t recommend this book series enough.
Characters were lovable and their stories were relatable. Kingsbury captures the family dynamic in wonderful detail. I look forward to reading more of her work.
You will laugh. You will cry. Your heart will be warmed.
This series of five books had all the ups and downs of a large family. All the children faces their own struggles and triumphs. In the last book you see where the parents had their own simultaneous struggle.
I really enjoyed this series. The story lines were inventive and well informed. I was emotionally moved several times and found it easy to follow multiple story lines. Well written, thoughtful and faith building.
I can’t believe how much I related to these characters. Every page was amazing. Every story was relevant and fit together. I’m reading the next set of five books.
I think this series is the most outstanding book series I’ve ever read. Honestly, so many life lessons from the series. I can’t encourage you to read it strongly enough.
