Among the Masses #2

Among the Fallen Swords

Saffi and her friends have escaped New Carrington, but the road they're on is treacherous and no one's sure who to trust. Ward hopes to travel to Golden Rock to meet with the Kessels, but Ebon wants them to flee to the Feral Isles to escape The Scholar's reach. Meanwhile, the town of New Carrington is in smolders, and the final assault on the estates of the aristocrats has begun as The Scholar reveals his true motivation. There's no safety on the horizon as enemies of old come back to haunt the living, and before the end a new town will burn as Saffi comes to grip with the part she's going to be forced to play in the coming war.

This is a very original zombie series. It`s quick and easy to read, but so unique because it feels like it`s set in the past while being set in the future. I love the characters and the world building. I can`t wait for the next book in this series.

This is an unfinished story.
Written in 2014, and 5 years later no conclusion.
Do not waist your time with this.
I do NOT recommend this book.

Death follows Saffi.

The second entry in the Among The Masses series builds really well off the first book. Now that the audience has become acquainted with the characters and world, things happen faster. While I like the changing of perspectives the storyline of the Leviathan family's Sword and the fall of New Carrington felt a bit unnecessary and took away from chances to learn more about the main cast. That doesn't mean those sections aren't interesting, they just don't seem to connect directly to the story. On a more positive note, The Scholar might be A.R. Wise's best villain he's ever written. He's not an anarchist, but a rebel trying to make a better world for his people. Add in the calm, endearing nature he portrays to those around him with cult leader charisma and all his scenes are spectacularly enthralling. Depending on how the story continues to play it, he could become one of my favorite antagonists in literature.

This story is evolving beautifully - in characters, place and plot.

Not your boring, everyday, done before, zombie story, but interesting, intriguing and original, certainly one that delves deeper, exploring the wider implications of facing death, especially of those we love.

Some strong characters - good and bad and in between - each developing within the complex ideas of this post-apocalyptic world. We have yet to learn the full story of past, present and future and I cannot wait to find out.

Extremely well written and highly recommended.

Second in the series of a setting many years after the original ZA. I love the years later settings as people are taken back to the beginning of settling a country, although in this case, there are much more things to be concerned with than natives and wildlife. The characters are developed and I am anxiously awaiting for the next in the series.

When I started this book I really didn't like it but as I started getting into it I started enjoying it. The author did a great job getting you into the characters. The more I read the more I enjoyed it.
