One day, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. But even during Christmas, it’s easy to lose sight of Him.
This new Advent devotional by David Platt is a call to recenter your heart by reflecting on 25 powerful names of Jesus found in Scripture. Each day leading up to Christmas offers a short, Scripture-rooted meditation, questions for reflection, and a prayer—along with a daily focus on one unreached people group still waiting to hear His name.
Let this Advent season deepen your worship, fuel your prayers, and awaken your longing for the day when all the world will know the name above every name.
It’s a different kind of advent - very short, very simple. but so practical. we get to process what each name of Jesus means for us today but then also pray that name over a specific unreached people group each day and that they would meet Him for the first time. this made me so much more intentional in prayer this season :)
I read this devotional with my kids during Advent. For me personally, it felt simpler than I was hoping for—I was looking for deeper insight and more opportunities for rich reflection as we prepared our hearts for Christmas. Also, we were disappointed that most of the devotions didn’t clearly tie into the Christmas season, since the book is labeled an Advent devotional.
However, my kids hadn’t studied the names of Jesus before, and they learned several new names and related Scriptures. We also had some meaningful family conversations along the way, which I appreciated.
With the prayer prompt at the end of each devotion highlighting a country or people group to pray for, this book could be a meaningful tool for cultivating a heart for the nations and for the spreading of the gospel. It would also be a great resource for families or readers seeking a simple study on the names of Jesus or for those who are curious about Jesus and open to learning more about Him.
This is my Advent reading this year. Because it's Dec 15, I haven't finished it yet, but I couldn't wait to give this 5 stars. It is such a gentle, simple devotional. Each reading is a short Scripture, two pages of devotional, and a brief prayer and reflection prompt. My favorite part is that each day there is a unreached people group listed that the reader is invited to pray for.
Apart from the Advent season, this would be great for anyone new to the faith, or anyone curious about Christianity, because it does such an excellent job about easily but thoroughly explaining who Jesus is.
Simple. Mostly focused on scripture - letting the profoundness come straight from the source. Thought-provoking. Good daily devo on a cool topic. I didn’t keep up every day but better late than never :)
great book to read daily in December leading up to Christmas, reminding us of the true meaning of the holiday and looking towards celebrating Jesus’ birth!
Looking at the different names of Jesus was a neat way to go through advent and I liked the focus on prayer for unreached people. The reflection questions, however, were not very good.
