Shadows and Curses #2

Cursed Nevermore

Rate this book
I live on borrowed time.
Every thirty days, my world resets. My memories vanish, and my curse begins again, erasing everything I’ve fought to hold on to.
It happened again.
Which means I failed.
Failed to break the curse.
Failed to find my father, the one who started this.
Failed to remember the truth.

And now I’m told I’m engaged to a man I loathe.
Our wedding is two weeks away.
Perfect timing for my life to fall apart. Again.

Then I meet a stranger in the woods.
A mage like me.
She whispers of another life I don’t remember… and a love I once burned for.
A Fae prince cloaked in shadow.
An enemy turned lover.
My Hades. Wolfe Nightblade.

And then he appears in my dreams—dark, fierce, heartbreakingly familiar.
He calls me Ziyka.
He says I belonged to him.
That he bound his soul to mine, and he will scorch worlds to find me.
I don’t remember him.
I don’t remember us.
But something inside me does.

When he steals me away on the eve of my wedding, the world I thought I knew unravels… along with the fragile walls around my heart.

War was already coming.
Taking me started
Between realms.
Between fate and choice.
Between the girl I was… and the one my Hades swears I’m destined to be.

I don’t know if I want to stop him…
or burn with him.

I want to cry...I need to wait till June for the 3rd book 😭. I'm not okay.

This series definitely takes a toll on you mentally. It can be heart breaking and sometimes frustrating. I love both main characters and their journey. Just as we finally got somewhere towards the end...a surprisingly horrible twist of fate happened leaving a cliffhanger.

Wolfe has been going through it but will he get his cure from the curse? or is it too late now? Lawd knows I can't take anymore bad news.

I am enjoying this series because it's unique from the author's previous books. I've been following this author through her other pen name and I find this story compelling and hope to see more stories in the future perhaps from the side characters.

Now I'm off to stay on suspense till June.

Holy cliffhanger!

Yep, this one ends on a whopper of a cliffhanger. Cursed Nevermore begins with Elariya in her childhood home at the beginning of another reset. Only this time she is told that there is no journal to read that will tell her about the events of the past thirty days. But that isn’t the worst part, she has also been informed that in two weeks she will marry a man she despises. However, Elariya knows that she is being lied to, and she dreams of a fae male that calls her Ziyka. She cannot explain why or how, but she knows that she knows him, that he is important to her. Fortunately, she will find out exactly who Wolfe Nightshade is when he stops her marriage to Thayden and claims her hand in marriage for himself. Then her work to break the curse and find the ring truly begins as she relearns all she knew about magic before the last reset.
I loved this book, I think it is as exciting as the first book, and I plan on diving right into the next book. This is a dark fantasy romance with magic, dragons, fae, and human characters that are all beautifully narrated with complex personalities that make them so realistic that I was engrossed in this book from the start. Plenty of surprising twists in the plot and a mysterious foe. I think this is a must-read book that I highly recommend to other readers.

For the most part I liked this one better than the first book, though I admit I did enjoy the first one more when I re-read it than I initially did. It did kind of start off repetitive. Like some of the same things that happened in the first book, happened again - just different circumstances. It’s kind of like déjà vu when you’re reading. But it does make sense given her memory curse.

Wolfe is literally one of the best things ever. Does he always make the best decisions? Of course not, but is that not why we love them? Elariya kind of annoyed me in this book. Because of her memory reset, she was awful to Wolfe, Arielle, and everyone else and then was making the dumbest decisions. Don’t get me wrong, the reasons behind her stupidity were valid - but I hate when an FMC starts acting like a complete dumbass. ALTHOUGH…. In the end it did end up helping in a good way. I hope as the series continue, the dragons will be a more prevalent part of the story. I do so love dragons!

The found family is probably one of my favorite aspects of these books. I enjoyed this book quite a bit. Read it all in one day. Be warned, it does leave off on one hell of a cliffhanger. I’m actually a little pissed about that 😂. This one literally just released a few days ago so who knows how long until the next one comes out.

I was attracted to this series by the premise of the heroine having her memory reset every thirty days and then I was pulled into this world where people are faced with all kinds of challenges. I like that Khardine Gray makes such an effort to describe how things like the magic work in these worlds and doesn’t just have characters wave a wand and poof. It’s very obvious that she has put a lot of work into writing this series because it shows in how well it reads. The books are all long, but they are all so exciting and fast paced that they don’t feel like it.
She has done things like making the names of characters and things exotic , but still understandable and easy to remember. I have read too many fantasy novels where I had to keep looking up who was who. It is the attention to detail like this that makes these such great stories. I don’t like the cliffhangers, but the series is finished so it didn’t bug me that much. I am greatly impressed by the overall quality of this series and will be recommending it to all my fellow fantasy lovers.

I saw this magically pop into my kindle and thought “OMG ABOUT TIME! THAT CLIFFHANGER IN THE FIRST BOOK KILLED ME!”

Well, just to lay it out there, there’s another cliffhanger. And at least we have a release date for book 3!

Khardine Gray knows how to build up a moment, the. Bring in the savior at the last possible minute! Over and over, we see Elariya and Wolfe risking everything to save each other, all while inching closer and closer to bringing their cursed and finding the ring.

I love how she brings in the ancient lore of the world to life, how Elariya’s reset this time around keeps her cautious and keeps her cards to her chest. Wolfe is having to fight his Death Magic harder than before. War is coming from an unknown enemy. And just when you think all hope is lost, there is a break through again and again…

And then the cliffhanger… 💀🫣

I love this… I loved this book so much.

Elariya and Wolfe both survive daunting threats and they get a brief HFN before it falls apart
Elariya initially doesn't even have a journal to remind her of what happened last month. And no one to tell her anything. Finally when Arielle arrives Elariya reads her letter and journal and knows what she felt for Wolfe, but she doesn't feel much of it after the reset. But she is needed to save Wolfe and she goes out of duty alone. Afterwards, Elariya is extremely foolish, attempting magic she has no business trying with her very limited experience. She gets lucky tho, when Wolfe comes up with a very clever plan to save her and her family. They then get a brief HFN (happy for now) until it all falls apart again.

The Second book of the Nevermore Series is just as intense, dark, and captivating as the first. You will not be able to put this down, every chapter, every page has a twist and turn your not expecting. You almost start to doubt who is loyal, who is friend or foe. While always hoping that Wolfe and Elaina come out on top.

Continuing on in the mystery and confusion of Elariya’s curse, she is back with her family and is supposed to marry Thayden. Even with her memory rest she knows something is off. More adventure awaits as Elariya and Wolfe seek to find the ring and who is killing the magical world, while Wolfe fights to ward off death that is still expecting him.

The story keeps you on the edge of your seat, while traveling through the mortal and magical realms.

This is the 2nd story in the Shadows and Curses Series where we have Elariya’s memory reset each month and the one man who usher other half, Wolfe had a journey that’s a bit strange and one struggle after another. Each time Elariya’s memory comes back in pieces and she uses caution to protect herself from those who are not honest with her on who they really are. Wolfe is not always making good decisions and not treating great by Elariya but in the end they fight for what they believe in the most…their love even when everyone around them keep pulling them apart!

Be prepared for another cliffhanger for this one. I am so glad I had this to read while waiting for my flight at the airport. It flew by and it was so subversive that I was done before I knew it. It took a moment to remember what had happened last but it didn't take long to to be so fully engrossed in the story. It has been a great series.

Painful Reset

Time has reset Elariya’s memories, waking up to a fiancé and life that does not match what her heart is trying to tell her. This second book of the series was emotionally devastating as Wolfe realized the cost of their curses. Just as things started to get back to hope, the devastating cliffhanger has me in painful anticipation of the outcome for book three.

Wow if I thought the first one was good, this one was better! I am absolutely bewitched by this trilogy and can’t wait for June to come to finish it! The wedding scene absolutely perfect no notes. I feel like I held my breath through the whole chapter like I was Elaryia herself hoping on a wing and a prayer (IYKYK) 😉

There is so much more to know…

and this book was very good at revealing more, and more, and more. Middle of a trilogy, and my favorite piece of this book was the deepening done in relationships. Start at the first book, then this one, then the final book, which is available as of July 2026.

DEVOURED this book! Only 4 ⭐️ due to the confusing/contradictory/ not systemic magic and worlds.

Since this is the first foray into fantasy, I wish she would have not felt the need to over try with the worlds and magic elements. Kept it simple! Trying to figure it out at random times with new things thrown in took away from the characters and plot.

So good

I just love this series. I think I’m hooked. This book is almost like a soap opera. As soon as a good thing happens a bad thing happens to counter it. So onto the next book, hoping my characters can finally find their happiness. Excited about the new beast that they’re about to find.

As this sinfully intriguing series picks-up and continues, I quickly found myself pulled right back in once again captivated by the mysteries, the twists, the tension, the romance, the emotions and the characters. Another stunning cliffy awaits at the end of this gripping book. Need book 3 ASAP.

My heart hurts for Wolfe and Elaryia (sp) throughout this book it seems that forces are doing more to make sure they are apart than helping them to find their solution. I am crazy that I have to wait till June for the third book. Read book 1 and book 2, you won't regret it.

What's the saying "Deja vu all over again?" Having a memory reset every 30 days makes for some interesting/intriguing/irritating circumstances. Relationships are deepened. Trust is lost and found. The mysteries and twists just keep coming.
