Claimed by the Mountain Man Orc: A Bite-Sized Monster Romance

Rate this book
One broody orc. One stubborn human. And a bond neither of them can deny.

Varn

I’ve spent years alone on this mountain, carving tokens for a mate I never truly believed would come.

Then she crashes into my territory—loud, fearless, impossible to ignore.

She doesn’t belong here.

But the moment I catch her scent, I know she belongs to me.

Mazie

I came to Orc Mountain chasing answers, not fairy tales.

The locals whisper about monsters in the trees. But when I stumble straight into the arms of one… I realize the stories don’t come close to the truth.

Because this orc isn’t just a monster.

He’s my destiny.

Claimed by the Mountain Man Orc is a short and steamy monster-lite romance featuring a broody orc hero, a fearless human heroine, and a fated-mates bond carved in stone. Expect growly possessiveness, size difference heat, and over-the-top instalove. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after—with tusks.

She came to hunt monsters. She found one who would never let her go.

Mazie built her life chasing legends, mic in hand, following whispers most people laugh off. When she heads into the wilderness to investigate the myth of Orc Mountain, she finds more than shadows. She finds Varn. And nothing feels the same after that.

Varn has lived in isolation for years, hidden from a world that fears what it won't understand. When he pulls Mazie from an icy river, something ancient stirs. The bond is instant. She's not just a stranger on his mountain. She's his. And no matter how hard he tries to ignore it, some things can't be denied.

Trapped by snow, survival becomes connection. Long nights by the fire give way to quiet truths and stolen glances. Varn learns that love isn't weakness. Mazie learns that some legends aren't meant to be exposed, just quietly held. And when they're apart, the bond doesn't fade. It only grows stronger.

As the seasons change, Mazie finds herself returning to the mountain again and again, caught between the life she knew and the one she's still learning how to build. The city feels colder now, quieter in all the wrong ways. It’s only on the mountain, with Varn, that she feels fully awake.

Mazie grows from skeptic to believer, chasing connection instead of evidence. Varn shifts from guarded and alone to someone open, steady, and all in. What starts with survival becomes something real, lasting, and fiercely theirs. Together, they carve out a love that's equal parts instinct and choice.

A steamy, fated mates, grumpy sunshine, orc-human romance with OTT instalove, size difference heat, and a bond rooted in instinct and old magic. It explores trust, identity, desire, transformation, and belonging in a snowy, hidden world. It’s about a woman who stops running, a mountain orc who stops waiting, and a bond that feels like home.

The Elevator Pitch: A bold human chasing legends crosses paths with a solitary orc who’s been waiting for a mate he never believed would come. Snowbound in the wild, their connection sparks with heat, magic, and aching vulnerability. A steamy, fated bond romance with heart, bite, and a love that refuses to let go.

4.5 ⭐s The mountain will provide what is needed.

Mazie Cole has a podcast, "The Cryptid Chronicles." Today she's come to the Orc Mountain in southern Appalachia seeking an Orc. Do they exist, or are they a fictional being? The only thing she's certain of right now is the fact that the supposedly "arctic" gloves she's wearing are spectacularly failing at keeping her hands warm.

The nearby small town pretends the monsters don't exist, but she knows better. She saw one when she was ten. He was huge and graceful, with green skin and shoulders wide enough to block out the sky. Her parents told her it was merely a dream. The other kids at school nicknamed her Monster Girl.

Most of the time the so-called sightings or mysterious events can be explained, but there's enough that can't be explained that keeps her searching. And now she's found what appear to be humanish footprints, but the stride is too long for a human, even one seven feet tall, and the impressions in the snow indicate someone of great weight, too.

The footprints are leading towards the water she hears in the distance. Suddenly she spots something in the distance—something with golden-colored intelligent eyes. She chases after whatever it is, but she slips on an icy patch on the path and falls into the river.

The current drags her under the surface while blocks of ice slam into her. All of a sudden huge warm hands grab her by the waist, and she's being held next to a huge warm chest. He's an Orc! When he stands, the river is only waist-high for him. She takes in this information just before she passes out.

Varn didn't hesitate to jump into the river to save the foolish human woman who has no business being in this area. He's been tracking her since dawn. Her clothing and footwear are made for the city, not this mountain. Then, to really complicate things, he feels his Thurok'hai bond humming beneath his skin. The bond that indicates that she is his mate—his human mate! Two of his brothers had already found their human mates; he felt that he had lost his chance for a human mate, or any mate.

He has instantly recognized the mate bond, but will she? More importantly, will she accept the bond? Can she grasp the mantra that the mountain will provide...?

Varn and Mazie . . .

Varn has spent years alone on Orc Mountain, carving tokens for a mate he never truly believed would come. Humans never come here in winter. But Mazie Cole has chosen to visit the mountain with her camera, hoping to get some good footage for her Cryptid Chronicles podcast as she investigates legends and rumors about Orc Mountain. Mazie had actually grown up near this place, and she knew the truth -- because she actually saw one of the monsters when she was 10 years old. But neither her parents nor her classmates ever believed her. Most of the time, the things she investigates for her podcast are explainable. But not all the time, which is what keeps her 40,000 subscribers tuning in regularly. Her "arctic-rated" gloves that promised to keep her warm in any condition were useless. And her insulated boots are unable to hold back the freezing cold. But nothing will stop her search. Then she finally sees the oversized footprints she was hoping for! She estimates them to be less than an hour old and they are headed toward the river. She aims her camera at the trees where she can see something green moving. The creature turns and looks directly at her, and she finds herself running -- not away but chasing it!

In her haste, Mazie slips on the ice and twists her ankle, plunging her into the river. Her body is dragged downstream and she is disoriented, momentarily unable to get to the surface. Then suddenly, something huge breaks through the water beside her and hands wrap around her waist to lift her up... and she feels the Orc carrying her toward the river bank. His deep voice says, "You shouldn't be here," and then she passes out. Fortunately for her, Varn had been tracking her since dawn, hoping she would turn back as the temperature dropped and it got darker. And for the first time in his life, the Thurok'hai bond activated beneath his skin. He had thought it was too late for him, but her scent reveals that this human woman is his mate. Can he get her to shelter at his cabin and save her life? And will she be willing to accept him as her mate and remain with him... or will she run away in fear?

Mazie is a believer in stories but not in magic — not really. She’s built her life chasing whispers, recording folklore, keeping a healthy distance between herself and the things she studies. But when she crashes into Orc Mountain, that distance disappears in one heartbeat… and one pair of massive, calloused hands.

Varn has lived years in silence, his world carved from solitude and regret. The tokens he’s made for a mate he never thought he’d meet are tucked away like secrets — until Mazie crashes into his life. She’s loud, curious, and beautifully alive. The moment he catches her scent, he knows: this isn’t coincidence. This is destiny.

Snow traps them together, but the isolation becomes something intimate, almost sacred. There’s an ache in their connection — a longing that feels both fated and chosen. Varn’s quiet devotion and Mazie’s brave, stubborn heart turn survival into something that feels like home.

What makes this story shine isn’t just the chemistry (and wow, there’s plenty). It’s the emotional honesty. It’s watching a woman stop running from her life and a man who finally lets himself be seen. The world outside might call him a monster, but in Mazie’s arms, he’s something far greater — hers.

Pippa Brook blends the wild and the tender so beautifully here. Claimed by the Mountain Man Orc is more than a fated mates romance — it’s a love letter to the idea that even in the most untamed places, connection can still find you. It’s about trust, belonging, and the kind of love that doesn’t ask you to change — only to stay.

If you love:

Fated mates with slow-burn tenderness

Broody orcs and brave human heroines

Snowy settings, firelit confessions, and a touch of magic
Then this story will melt your heart faster than the snow on Varn’s mountain.

Proving Monsters Aren’t Real -
Mazie grew up being ridiculed about something she told them she witnessed, but they didn’t believe her, so she decided to prove everyone one wronfpg when she grew up. However, Mazie’s exploration led to Varn having to rescue her from a near fatal situation, but it also helped her find what she had been searching for and a piece of information that rendered her speechless.

Even though Varn tried to keep his distance, Mazie pushes him to breaking point after he told her about their connection, which led to a passion filled encounter between them. Even though Varn and Mazie acknowledged their connection, they still had the issue of living in two different worlds, but she found a way to keep both world apart for the sake of their happiness and future. I really enjoyed reading this amazing mountain man romance with a twist, that had me losing myself in the pages and unable to stop reading until the end. This is a definite must read book I am happy to recommend.

This is a new series of Pippa Rae Brook. You get her well written romance now with a side of other worldly men.

I loved how this felt like a connection or fate just waiting to happen. Mazie has been searching for things from other worlds or myths her whole life. She knew she was meant to find something she swore she saw as a kid. It takes away reason and pushes her to search the woods in the snow. Varn clocked her from a mile away, and as a Orc he knows to stay hidden, but he can't risk when she falls into the water.

You really felt the vibe of them now knowing what to make of each other, but knowing they found what they were looking for. She doesn't look at him like a monster, and he sees more than just a ordinary human. Its got a great story, good steam, and a fated mate HEA that we all can't help but love!

Varn and Mazie: A bond that could not be denied

This was a very beautiful story. It tells of two souls, a human and an Orc, bonded beyond what society would consider "normal." Mazie goes on a discovery mission to Orc Mountain and, due to a misstep, finds herself in the care of an Orc named Varn.

I think what I loved most about this story was the immediate connection between Varn and Mazie. The way Varn was protective of Mazie the minute he saw her, and the way Mazie protected Varn. No spoilers. If you know, then you know. And the carvings? If that isn't love, then I don't know what is. This book was so worth reading. It was fast-paced, sweet with some spice added in, with a guaranteed HEA and a fabulous epilogue. I'm definitely adding it to my Kindle library.

When hunting the impossible leads to the love of your life 💞

4 stars A quick read about Mazie who has been searching for the presence of Orcs since she caught a glimpse of something in childhood. She finds more than she could hope for in Varn, who realizes they share a
Thurok'hai bond. But I didn’t connect as deeply as usual with the characters and this story, while sweet, needed more passion between them.

This was a fun addition to the series and it brings Varn his HEA. Blogger Mazie is on the hunt to prove monsters exist, after seeing one as a child. However, her trip did not go as planned and she ends up rescued by Varn, an orc. Instead of fear, she shows curiosity and connection. I love that he'd been dreaming her face for quite a while, making them true soulmates. I really enjoyed how the author made it so she could continue to blog and have her spicy HEA with Varn, too. Nothing like having it all ;D

I enjoyed reading Varn and Mazies story, will be sad when the series ends but it’s a great story of different species loving with a strong bond.
Mazie does a podcast about chasing legends, a glance or footprint seen but not proven. She see’s Varn while searching the mountain, running after him. Falling into the icy river, Varn saves her and brings her to his cabin to warm her.
Read the book to find out how they accept the bond and lobe forever.

Orc Instalove

I know this is a short story, but it felt too rushed. Details were skipped over and transitions were abrupt. I think more could be added to smooth out the story while still keeping it novella length.
The story itself was sweet, but I kept getting distracted by the droped details and rushed transitions.

This is a very sweet, short, instalove romance with an Orc twist. I loved Varns wood carvings and their meanings. I was a tiny bit disappointed in how the story ended, it is a happy ending but just not exactly what I expected. It was still a really pleasant short read🥰.

Mazie saw a “monster” in the mountains when she was young, leading her to a life of looking for the mysterious and mythical. Called weird and crazy but still searching. Falling into the icy river brings her what she has been looking for. Varn knew that she was the one he had been carving, his heart.

"She chased monsters into the mountain and found me instead." Literally, this statement encapsulates this entire story - a monster legend hunter finally finds love and a place to belong in the mountain cabin of her orc rescuer. It's cute and sweet and an easy quick read, with just enough spice and longing.
