Voices to Victories: A Memoir of Addiction, Illusion and Control

Rate this book
She didn’t lose control all at once. She spent years believing she had it—until the illusion finally shattered.
Tara built her life on achievement, perfectionism, and the belief that if she worked harder, planned better, and stayed one step ahead, everything would finally fall into place. But beneath the surface, addiction, mental illness, grief, and fear were quietly unraveling the life she fought so hard to control.
Through years of addiction, psychiatric hospitalizations, loss, and the relentless pursuit of perfection, Tara kept believing the next achievement would finally make life make sense. Instead, she uncovered a truth she never expected: the greatest obstacle wasn't addiction—it was the illusion of control.
Voices to Victories: A Memoir of Addiction. Illusion. Control. is a raw and deeply personal account of addiction, mental illness, grief, and the relentless pursuit of control. Tara doesn't hide the chaos, the mistakes, or the heartbreak. With honesty, vulnerability, and an unwavering thread of faith, she shares the moments that nearly destroyed her—and the God who never stopped pursuing her. This is a story of falling apart, finding hope, and discovering that lasting freedom begins not by trying harder, but by letting God lead.
Whether you've struggled with addiction, loved someone who has, wrestled with mental health, or simply longed for a fresh start, this memoir is a reminder that no past is beyond redemption, and no story is beyond hope.

What a powerful honest book about addiction and the hold it has on your life!
But God.....
Many will read this book and relate to it on a personal level. I know I did. Thank you for sharing the raw, ugly experience of your life, that finally brought you to the saving Grace of Jesus. (That was all those Mama prayers!) No one is too bad for God's love, mercy and grace! Your story shows that through a powerful message. We all fall short and we all sin. God has a wonderful plan for each of our lives, we just need to surrender and give him the wheel. And that's what you did, when you couldn't do it anymore yourself!
Your story captivated and inspired me, (I read it in 2 days) I know others will feel the same as they turn each page, walking with you through your journey. This book is filled with struggle and, pain......But God...... He already knew the end of your story! May he continue to bless your life!

I started this book and couldn’t put it down. I had tears streaming down my face and every emotion while reading this. Tara’s story about addiction, mental health, darkness, low self worth and how she fought through it all with God by her side is powerful. She never gave up and found the light, even in the darkest storms. This is truly inspiring, especially to anyone who is struggling to know there is a way out, even if it doesn’t seem like it. I loved reading how God helped her in countless ways, and is her foundation through it all. She is an amazing writer, brave to share her story and help others. She’s inspired me to pray more and my faith is stronger after reading this book. Highly recommend.

Tara’s Voices to Victories is a powerful testament to the strength of the human spirit and the transformative power of faith. With raw honesty and remarkable courage, she opens the door to her darkest struggles with addiction and self-destruction, allowing readers to walk with her through pain, surrender, and ultimately, redemption.

It takes incredible bravery to share a story so personal, and Tara does so with a vulnerability that is both humbling and inspiring. Her journey is not just about survival, it’s about victory, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of hope.

What makes this book so impactful is its ability to reach far beyond Tara’s personal story. For those who may be wrestling with their own battles, or who love someone caught in addiction, her words are a beacon of encouragement. She reminds us that even in the deepest valleys, there is always a way forward, and that faith can ignite a new beginning.

Voices to Victories is more than a memoir, it’s a gift to anyone searching for light in the midst of darkness. Tara’s courage in sharing her story will no doubt help countless people find the strength to keep going on their own journeys.

This was such a compelling read. Few authors and few humans are willing to share the dark underbelly of life‘s experiences, the experiences that aren’t wrapped up with a bow and don’t end with a fairytale. I so appreciate that Tara is willing to share such an honest story and to inspire others who are struggling with addiction to keep going until they also find a source of fuel for their healing and sobriety. Highly recommend for anyone struggling with addiction, or seeking to better understand the forces that keep people trapped in its power.

This is a beautiful display of grit, determination, and resiliency. Tara is truly a real life miracle and testimony to God’s grace and mercy. I found myself unable to put this book down. As a former addict and alcoholic myself, there was so much I could relate to in her story. I highly recommend this to anyone, but especially those who are currently struggling with some kind of addiction. Your hope will be restored with this read!!

I loved the letters to various people at the end.

I loved this quote:

No matter where you are in life, God’ s ear is always open, and His love
is everlasting. If you feel like you are too far gone, you are exactly who He is reaching for
