Code Blue Hearts is a steamy dual POV contemporary romance. Second in the Ridge Point Heroes series but can be read as a standalone. Features a trauma surgeon with PTSD and the EMT who refuses to back down.
Code Blue Hearts is book two in the Ridge Point Heroes series and is the story of Knox and Sia. This is a rivals to lovers, close proximity, grumpy/sunshine romance.
Knox is a trauma surgeon who thrives on control and practicing medicine with exacting standards following an incident while deployed that left him with PTSD. Protocols keep patients safe and alive but when he is confronted with an EMT who practices outside of her scope, he realizes that his experience may not be enough.
Sia is a climbing instructor, wilderness guide and has practiced technical rescues for years and has a perfect safety rating, in addition to her job as an EMT. She is called to technical rescues as an expert and has successfully rescued dozens of injured climbers. Sia comes face to face with a broody trauma surgeon who has been called in to assist with an injured climber and he questions every step of her assessment and patient care.
Sia and Knox butt heads from the very start, Knox refuses to accept that Sia might be better equipped to handle injured climbers than her chosen profession should allow. Sia’s past has shaped her into the strong, independent woman who excels at her job but her parents do not approve of her choices and make their disappointment known every chance they get. Knox’s condescending actions and comments reinforce the doubts Sia’s parents have instilled in her. As Sia and Knox spend more time on rescues, he sees that she is far more capable and skilled than he believed and he starts to rethink his belief that his protocols are the answers to all medical problems.
This story highlights the growth of Sia and Knox and how their beliefs can change and that their past does not dictate their future. The story has some dark themes so please check your content warnings prior to reading. Sia’s compassion for Knox’s past allows him to see that he has been coping with his PTSD, not dealing with it and that to get better and be a better partner for Sia, he must deal with his past or risk his future. The chemistry and connection between Sia and Knox were on fire and their stolen moments were hot!
There is quite a bit of medical terminology in the story and it is easy enough to understand in the context of the story. There is discussion of PTSD, past traumatic events and emergency response scenes that may be triggering for some readers. I received an advanced copy of this book and am leaving an honest review as a show of my appreciation.
Wow this series just keeps getting better Ava has delivered another fantastic book. This book was a page turner from the start to the finish. It has a great plot as well as spice and banter. The FMC Sia is a EMT who specializes in mountain climbing rescues and the MMC Knox is a trauma surgeon who does not trust anyone's work or way to do things that don't follow protocol. Sia and Knox have to work together on lots of mountain climbing rescues Knox tries to tell Sia how certain things should be done in a particular way Sia does not back down and explains why it needs to be done not like protocol his use to as there not in an or room. The chemistry between these two you can feel it coming off the pages. Knox deals with PTSD from being in the war while Sia deals with how her parents do not take her career seriously and they keep pushing her that she needs to go back to medical school. I loved how Knox stuck up for Sia when it came to her parents. I loved how Sia would start to peel layers of Knox walls of and i am so glad he let her in. These two are so good together in a relationship as well as being partnered on rescues. The spice was definitely spicing between these two.
I also loved that we got to see the MC from the first book make an appearance in this book aswell.
If you love characters that work in the medical field this book is definitely worth the read. I received this book as an ARC in return for my honest review
