Dr. Scarlett Kane never set out to start a revolution. As a no-nonsense biomedical engineering professor at Ember Falls University, she has spent years trying to protect her direct reports from a system she has learned refuses to protect them. But after the university turns a blind eye one time too many, Scarlett’s passion for justice ignites into something far more intense. She’s not just angry, she’s ready to fight.
Warrick “War” Redmond is the university’s controlled HR director, a man who thrives on order, diplomacy, and staying ten steps ahead to protect EFU’s brand. To Scarlett, he’s the polished face of a corrupt institution, too calm, too careful, and too complicit. But beneath his composed exterior lies a man with secrets of his own, and a plan that could change everything.
Thrown together by circumstance and driven by a shared desire to expose the truth, Scarlett and War find themselves walking a tightrope between strategy and emotion, trust and betrayal. The more they clash, the more they connect, and the more fiery their exchanges become.
In a world where power is king and silence is survival, can two bold people trust each other enough to forge an alliance and begin to heal the broken parts of themselves?
Warrick and Scarlett were on opposite sides of workplace politics at their job, or so Scarlett thought. Both of them had their reasons for fighting back against the racism and injustices on the university campus, but Scarlett was more vocal. Once Warrick and Scarlett formed an alliance against the discrimination that was going on, I was happy when their plans worked out for the people that they were fighting for and the other people got what was coming to them. I also enjoyed when War and Scar got together as well with their freaky selves. 😂 Their scenes were sexy and on fire. War also brought out Scar's soft side which she needed after the battles she had to fight in her every day life. This was a really good book with a real life storyline and relatable characters.
I so enjoy your grown-up and sexy characters and books. Upon Warrick's and Scarlett's initial meeting regarding her complaints, I was dying laughing as she handed him his ass for his arrogance and snarkey remarks during their meeting. I knew this was about to be good and nasty 🤣
After their clandestine meeting, it was realized that Warrick and Scarlett had much in common then they thought and needed to get on the same page for justice. Their intense feelings could not be clearer. Surprise, surprise, I was tickled when War blocked her from meeting LilDavid that same night they met, with her barely there clothing on. A personal, more intimate connection blossomed between the two outside of the bedroom, which I was hoping for.
Thank you for continuing to write about the injustices that organizations and businesses continue to inflict upon our people. Also, yes, I recognized the characters of lil David and Zora from your previous stories.
Very quickly Dr. Cox has become not just an author of love but an author of healing. She writes beautiful stories that allow readers with similar experiences to imagine what healing might look like and believe in the possibilities that these stories could also be their testimony. The brilliance of her pen lies in the authenticity of the characters that she pens- well established adults that are allowed to have messy lives, facades born of less than stellar experiences, and most importantly- the space to grow and transform. Dr. Cox also treats the reader to realistic and somewhat hopeful desires that can be achieved in real life. This is more than a love story- it is a healing story that includes a blueprint of sorts for those stuck in the no man’s land between what has happened and the desire to move forward.
May her pen continue to be blessed. May her characters continue to show us how we can be vulnerable and that safe, caring, loving spaces do exist. Selah
I enjoyed this story between two people fighting to get justice. I wasn't sure about Warrick at first, but once he turned into war, he was exactly who Scarlett needed him to be. The injustice that Scarlett and others encountered at that university was despicable, and I'm glad they got the justice they deserved. War and Scarlett together was a force to be reckoned with both for the fight for justice as well as in the bedroom. This couple didn't play when it came to get down. They got down and nasty, and I was here for it. Overall, this was a wonderful story filled with a lot of teachable moments.
One thing I can say about Monica is that her points do not miss. I read her afterward, and this book would still have been great without the sex because of the strong storyline.
Warrick and Scarlett were a force of nature. I may not have agreed with his silence and evasiveness, but he hit hard. The way I cheered and cried at the same time. Justice served to those who championed injustices. The truth of everything written is in real time. Many can relate, and I tell my sons this ALL THE TIME.
I love this book down. I definitely agree on the Chararistics on Aries. I was a little hesitant on the same zodiac sign but they blinded will as I thought lol. Definitely love the plot on the workplace discrimination and the justice that was received. My first read by th is author and will be reading more.
What can I say about book 14 of BLP Signs of Love series?!?! Book 14 took me a while to read because it wasn’t the romance my stressful life as an educator needed at the moment but once I got my life together it was the best justice romance I ever read!!
Scar and War’s love story is very different but watching them let their guards down and being what the other person needed was everything. War was definitely not who Scar that he was and once she accepted that her guards drop and her softness was revealed.
Monica did an outstanding job bringing this story to life! If this book or series is not on your TBR it needs to be!!
The book was good but I knew from the warnings it would be triggering and hard to get through because of the injustices being displayed. I commend and applaud Monica for being able to remain professional ethical while writing this body of work and still getting her point across ! Tastefully done and I know that isn’t always easy to do. You think urban literature and most think “ghetto”, “uncultured”, “erotica” etc but the way she pulled this off i tip my hat off to her ! I’d definitely recommend this book to others. Especially how she managed to keep fire signs in check was something!
disappointed as most of this authors' books are all related to the same issues experienced in corporate America. Yes, discrimination does and continues to happen, but does all her books need to be centered about it?
Normally, 2 Aries are to head strong to be together, but in this book. It showed a different way to get along with a simple partnership. This book also showed how people will try to abuse their power. You always have to stand up for your rights even when it hurts.
War had me scared I thought he was trying to play Scar. In the end he stayed with the truth. I'm glad everyone who tried to dismantle Scar got theirs in the end.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story about two individuals seeking justice. Initially, I was uncertain about Warrick, but as he transformed into his 'War' persona, he became exactly what Scarlett needed. The injustices faced by Scarlett and others at the university were appalling, and I was relieved they received the justice they deserved. The chemistry between War and Scarlett was undeniable, both in their fight for justice and in their intimate moments. This couple was unapologetic and passionate, and I appreciated their unbridled connection. Overall, this was a great read.
