When a butterfly flaps its wings in the Caribbean, it causes storms in Europe.

The British King and Prime Minister have arrived in Georgetown, Guyana, along with the leaders of the other fifty-five countries in the Commonwealth, for its biennial meeting. Two shots ring out causing panic on the steps of the Mahaica Convention Centre.

The previous month, Tina Persad, an MI6 agent with Caribbean experience, had been sent to find out whether rumoured threats to the meeting were real or not. Then days before it was due to start, she had disappeared without trace.

Michaela ‘Mike’ Kingdom, a CIA analyst in London, may have been the last person to see her alive when they had a drink together in The Green Feathers. With Tina missing, Mike makes it her mission to find her friend, despite warnings not to get involved.

The butterfly may have already flapped its wings, but can Mike find Tina before the Heavens open?

This is book 5 in the Michaela (Mike) Kingdom series, although is the first I have read. I found it absolutely fine to read as a stand alone. The author briefly refers back to happenings in previous books, however, I did not feel I needed to know any more background.

The story is told from the point of view two ‘secret squirrel’ agents; Mike who is a CIA analyst based in London and her friend Tina, an MI6 agent. Firstly we mainly follow events from Mike and then we catch up with Tina and find out what happened when she disappeared.

We are taken on a journey from London to the Caribbean to France as we follow drug smugglers and one of their reluctant raw materials suppliers, and a plot to kill either the PM or the king who will both be attending a Commonwealth meeting in Guyana. The book opens with this scene playing out, although we don’t know at this point who has been killed. We are then taken back to the run up to this shooting.

When Tina goes missing, presumed dead, following a weekend visit to Mike, Mike will stop at nothing, even potentially losing her job, to find out what has happened to her friend. Who can she trust?

Wow this was a very multi layered read with so much going on I really had to concentrate. Expertly plotted with characters so well written they jumped off the page and descriptions so vivid I felt I was right there in the centre of the action. The author does a great job of summarising and tying up all the loose ends, and answering a few questions I had as we reach the end of the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline; this is exactly what I enjoy reading and also watching on TV. Perhaps Prime or Netflix will be lucky to sign up David’s books as this one would definitely make a great film!

I already have bought one of the previous books in this series as I will be reading them all.

Another superb blend of up to the minute geopolitics, major crime and security service machinations, served up as a thriller with plenty of humour, that’s a joy to read. One could be excused thinking that geopolitics is dull, but as the butterfly analogy suggests, the connections are there across the world to discover. The author is a natural storyteller who has the knack of slotting the pieces together into an enthralling narrative. Here events move along briskly; this is one book you won’t put down too often.

After shocking conclusion of The Mongoose and the Cobra the danger is dialled down a little. Here the story is more of a search, so the threats are more implied, which works well. Too much life-threatening jeopardy becomes unbelievable, this is not that kind of series. The humour is subtle, observational and witty. Here is a clever writer who can add a wry smile to any scene. I missed the slapstick of earlier novels, but writers mature and find their niche, and this is one he has made his own. I look forward to much more of the same.

The storyline is complex, perfectly encapsulating the interaction between crime and espionage in the modern world. In this story we have identity swaps, tax evasion, drugs manufacturing and smuggling, and money laundering as well as spot of assassination. All of this is expertly pulled together and makes perfect sense by the end. He also manages to perfectly encapsulate the inter-agency rivalry, bickering and at times lack of cooperation.

A good series needs great characters and in Mike and Leonard we have two of the best, individually and with their interactions. It’s a wonderful dynamic, a surface love-hate but one with real trust and loyalty, with much more to come I believe. Some writers have unchanging characters, but here they are gradually changing with each new instalment. Leonard is becoming more human, more likeable and tidier, to the relief of his dry cleaner. Mike is gradually putting the pain of the past behind her, becoming more worldly-wise and opening up to Wazz.

A top notch geopolitical thriller; intelligent storytelling with panache and wit.

It was fab to be back with Mike Kingdom again. I had been wondering what had happened to her after the events of the last book. It seems she's settled into something of a domestic life, sharing a home although she still has a bolthole.
Its a weekend sharing this bolthole with friend Tina that sets off the events for this book. Another thrill ride across various countries and contents. A lot set this time in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. Not settings you come across often.
It seems Tina and Mike have accidentally uncovered something the higher ups in the British and American security services would rather they left alone. Both women are like a dog with a bone however and think otherwise!
Mike felt a lot more mellow this time. Still feisty, take no nonsense and clever. She hides less behind her wigs, and when told to do, or not do something by her boss, she obeys him. Im sure this hasn't happened before.
I also feel like the author played us, at the beginning and the end, firstly with the health of Mr De Vries and secondly with a closing chapter with a man and a van. I will say no more for fear or spoilers, but will say David, I see you!
These are cracking books and im always excited when a new one is announced. This can be read as a standalone but its such a great series id recommend starting from the beginning for that reason alone.

💥A razor-sharp thriller that keeps you guessing💥

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

“Don't trust anyone. Anyone.”

The Green Feathers is a tightly wound political thriller that moves with the precision of a chess game and the tension of a ticking clock. David Jarvis weaves international intrigue, intelligence manoeuvring, and human vulnerability into a story that feels chillingly plausible.

At the heart is Michaela 'Mike' Kingdom, a CIA analyst whose loyalty and tenacity drive her straight into danger when her friend, MI6 agent Tina Persad, goes missing on the eve of a major Commonwealth summit. Jarvis balances the high stakes of global politics with the intimacy of friendship, making the story feel both expansive and personal.

I loved how the plot spirals outward—one moment anchored in a quiet, quirky pub—that very much brings to mind one very close to my home—the next navigating the shadowy corridors of power in the Caribbean. The pacing is brisk without sacrificing depth, and Jarvis has a deft hand for dialogue that feels sharp and real.

Verdict: A gripping, intelligent page-turner where every decision feels weighted with consequence. If you like your thrillers smart, international, and emotionally charged, The Green Feathers delivers in spades.

This is the fifth book in the Mike Kingdom Thrillers. For me, it was the first book that I’ve read in the series, and I coped just fine to read it as a standalone.

Mike Kingdom is an American born CIA analyst, currently living in the UK. Her friend, Tina Persad, an MI6 agent, comes for a visit. Together, they have a drink at the Green Feathers pub. Tina seems troubled by her latest operation in the Caribbean, but remains tight lipped about her experience. She then goes missing, presumed dead.

It appears that Mike was the last person to see her alive.

Mike digs deeper into her friend’s disappearance and discovers that Tina was working on a potential threat at CHOGM – Commonwealth Heads of Government – meeting in Guayana.

Both women uncover things that the British and the American security services wish they hadn’t…

This is a fabulous political thriller with an interwoven, intricate plot. I was gripped straight from the start, all the way to the end.

I found Mike very determined to discover the truth behind her friend’s disappearance.

I loved how the storyline was told from Mike’s point of view, and then Tina’s as we discovered what happened to her and what she has discovered.

Overall, it is a truly captivating read. I definitely recommend it.

This is the fifth Michaela (Mike) Kingdom. The story begins with two shots outside a convention centre in Guyana, where the King, the British Prime Minister and other Heads of State are meeting for a biennial conference. Back in the UK, Mike meets with her friend, Tina Persad, MI6 operator in The Green Feathers, a pub in her new village. Soon afterwards, Mike learns that Tina is missing. Where is she? Why has she vanished? Mike has been told by her boss not to investigate. Of course, we know she is stubborn and chooses to ignore this order. It is a roller-coaster of a read! It was entertaining, fast paced, full of twists and turns, pacy and suspenseful. It was unputdownable. More Mike please.

This is the fifth Mike Kingdom thriller, I have read all the preceding ones, & this one did not disappoint. For those of you who have read the previous instalments, no introduction is necessary. For those of you who are new to these thrillers (where have you been?), Mike is an analyst for the CIA, working in London.

Tina Persad (who Mike met on a collaboration with MI6), goes missing having recently returned from an assignment in the Caribbean. Mike decides to investigate, despite being warned not to. The consequence of ignoring that warning could be serious for all concerned. I’m not saying any more.

You can read this as a standalone, but I would recommend that you start with the first in the series to gain the full Mike Kingdom experience. A fantastic & engrossing read.

The Green Feathers by David Jarvis is the fifth book in the Mike Kingdom series of geopolitical thrillers. It is a series that is fantastic and I would recommend that you read them in order, but if you happen to read this before you find the other books it works perfectly well as a standalone.

I love Mike as a character. She is determined, analytical, and hyper-focused when she is dealing with a case. In this novel she is racing to find out what happened to her friend Tina. Making friends in the intelligence community is possibly more complicated than ordinary people with ordinary jobs. Mike is still in a relationship with part time bouncer Wazz, although they spend time in one another’s homes they do not live together as such. He remains a steady source of emotional support for Mike as she throws herself into her work.

David Jarvis writes clever and exciting geopolitical thrillers that always feel very contemporary, and The Green Feathers was no exception, with drug cartels, billionaires and an assassin. I enjoyed the fact that where Mike is normally considered a maverick who does not take orders and acts impulsively, there was a lesson to be learned in her determination to keep going even when she was being strongly counselled to stop which, on this occasion, would probably have been more appropriate.

The Green Feathers was a dramatic and exciting thriller that was a real page-turner as it progresses at break-neck speed through the UK, France, and the Caribbean. If you like geopolitical thrillers, you are missing out if you do not read this!
