Jim Cymbala knows something a lot of us miss--that a comfortable, secure life won't produce the satisfaction we long for. How could we feel fulfilled by missing out on the life God has for us?
Whether life seems good or not right now, Jim Cymbala believes that God has more for you. In this new book, he'll help you find out how to access the "more" God intends--more peace, real joy, and a deep sense of purpose. As you open yourself to the "more" of God, you will also discover your unique work assignment--the one thing God is calling you--and no one else--to accomplish for the sake of his work in the world.
You Were Made for More draws a compelling picture of people just like you who are finding that "more of God" means more influence, more energy, and ultimately more happiness. It will help you picture what your own "land of milk and honey" might look like--the fuller, richer spiritual place you long to be.
Using examples from the Bible, contemporary stories, and experiences from his own life, Jim Cymbala points the way to a richer, deeper life, helping you take hold of everything God wants to give.
Jim Cymbala has been the pastor of The Brooklyn Tabernacle for more than twenty-five years. The author of the best-selling titles Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire; Fresh Faith; and Fresh Power, he lives in New York City with his wife, Carol Cymbala, who directs the Grammy Award-winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.
Although it wasn’t my favorite of Jim’s books, this is still a great read that will challenge and encourage anyone’s spiritual journey. The authenticity of Jim’s faith comes across in every word he writes and has been a huge encouragement to me in a season of life that is requiring more faith from me than I feel I could ever possibly give. If you need a refreshing dose of faith from someone who has seen the results of living sold out to God for the better part of his life, you should definitely pick up any/all of Jims books.
Favorite Quote: “One of the greatest spiritual self-deceptions is the idea that we are living close to God even though we care little for about the people around us. This simply does not square with 1 John 4:8 ‘Whoever does not love does not know Hod, because God is love.’... The only measure of our vertical relationship with God is the loving quality of our horizontal relationship with others.”
Listen closely and look around to see what God has for you
Wow! Exactly what I needed to hear, confirmation of my thoughts and dreams. Pastor Cymbala used easy understandable dialogue as he developed each point and focused on the main things we need to hear as Jesus followers. As I set and anticipate what the Lord has around the next corner, I know that I was made for more and in his strength and power I can fill those shoes. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs to hear from the Lord and fulfill Gods plan for your best. The path may not be easy but well worth the journey.
Pastor Jim Cymbala has a way of opening up scripture in the way he explains things on such a layman field. We are truly made for more, and in realizing this fully starts at the heart of understanding who you are in Christ and taking God at His word and fully trusting Him to do what He has said He will do. And I’m doing this, it will come natural to live out your full potential That God has created you for!!! Great read. A lot of “nuggets” in this book. Thank you Jim Cymbala.
Cymbala makes a couple of important points: There is a reason for our existence, even if we don't see it. Pray, pray with all your heart and forget about intellectualising it and listen, because God will answer. Trust that God sent his Spirit to be with you and also, stop being so lukewarm. Just believe what God said - and He said "in this world you will have trouble ..." (John 16.33). It's the "take heart" part that I'm battling with at the mo. At least I found in these pages another person who knows that people are always prowling around for reasons for things - and answers to most of these are to be found in the Bible. If not, consult the Author of the Word, and He will answer.
