Who is this, Ethan Lee?

Ethan Lee is just some guy. He lives right in the middle of England, about as far away from the sea as it is possible to be. He’s quite ordinary really.

For a long time, Ethan has wanted to write fantasy novels. He’s tried a few times, but the results were not good. Nothing ever got finished either, which is probably a good thing overall.

But, for whatever reason, something clicked this time around. This time he has finished a book, and this time he thinks it could even be half decent.

Nightflower is Ethan’s debut novel, and he is extremely excited to be able to say that. Hopefully, people will read it. Hopefully people will enjoy it. If you are one of these people, please leave a review somewhere, or share it on social media. Ethan needs all the help he can get.

This debut novel is one that I have added to my favorites list! Lee has written such an excellent first that I am looking forward to the second installment!

Lee developed such amazing characters, and every one of them has a strong story to tell. Nightflower is filled with extremely powerful female characters. Even the corrupted, evil women are strong.

Caya, the main character, is quite flawed and we see how her anger is her worst enemy. Caya's anger becomes blind rage that results in her own devastation. Her default mode of reacting in anger leads to destructive acts of carelessness. Yet, through Caya we learn that even when you think you can't go on there is always just a little more power within.

Lee infused this novel with lessons. The concept of how the need for revenge can be our own undoing is fully mapped out through Caya's story. Themes of forgiveness, friendship and honor are also present.

I received an advance review copy (ARC) for free, and I am voluntarily leaving my opinions of this novel. Thank you to the author, publisher and Booksirens for this opportunity.

Again, I am so excited for the second installment of Caya's journey. I need to know more!
Highly recommend this new authors work!

Tropes: Dark Fantasy, Vigilante Justice, Revenge, Witches, Alpha Female

Nightflower is the 1st book in The Coven of the Bond Series by Ethan Lee. This is Ethan Lee's debut novel and I have to say that this book blew me out of the water and I will be adding this book to my trophy shelf and I can't wait to get my hands on the next instalment.

From the first moment you start reading Nightflower Ethan pulls you into this world that you can fell shivers with all the tension, magic, and danger you would expect. While Nightflower isn't quite a fantasy, it does border on fantasy and still beats with all the raw power, the sting of betrayal, and leaves you with a burning need for vengeance. This is a story told in 575 pages of non-stop pacing, ancient pacts, characters who aren't just struggling to survive, they are clawing their way out of the darkness and into the light.

Caya's journey is absolutely visceral. She starts off in this cell, surrounded by dark walls keeping her in this oppressive darkness – the air is stale and hard to breath, feel the chains the wrap around her, taste the rot of the cells, but beneath it all you can feel Caya's defiance and refusal to give up, you can feel that even in the midst of all this darkness where there should be no hope, Caya's hope is still flickering like a candle in the darkest night.

The opening prologue, that prologue alone sets up the story, sets up all the stakes, showing us just how high the stakes really are and the prologue also sets the momentum of the entire story and from here the prologue never once lets up.

The magic the Ethan creates for Nightflower is so unique and yet dangerous and I just loved it. The magic is unpredictable, it has a cost to cast, and it is woven into the very character who is casting it, and it's woven into the characters flaws, desires and very passions.

Lets talk about our villains for a minute. Enemies are never just simply our villains. Some of our villains are actually allies who are spies in disguise, others are going to betray you when you have your back turned and your not expecting it. You never know who you can truly trust and who is truly a villain.

I loved the world-building that Ethan took the time to build for Nightflower. It's rich and gothic: we have pacts that have been made, curses that have been cast, there are supernatural bonds, the very architecture of this world is made up of the betrayal's that have already happened and that are going to happen. With all the layers of power that have been included make you feel that the consequences of every choice is heavier then first realized.

Ethan did a masterful job maintaining the pacing of this story layering in suspense, betrayal, and heartbreak. And just when we think things can't get in any worse, he adds in more betrayal, an arc break, another alliance shift – and then to just amp up the tension he'll add in a twists or a moment of emotional clarity that can both cut and uplift. Nightflower is going to see friendships be tested, vengeance come at a great cost that you may not want to pay, and trust will become the most dangerous gable you could ever take. And yet, you see among the darkest shadows, there are these moments of kindness, loyalty, and there are sacrifices that glow brighter in those moments for what they represent.

You can't deny that there are layer on top of layers in this book and that there are more villains, secrets, and secret pacts that there are moments that it can all feel like it's too much. And I am sure there are going to be times and even moments that you'll wish there were more times where you could just stop and breath before you were caught in the next storm. But, that's part of what makes Nightflower so powerful, its pacing and the speed at which it moves.

Nightflower was masterfully written and is this dark gothic fantasy that's thrilling, dangerous, and will keep your pulse pounding till the very end and I found this book to be so very satisfying.

I have to say that if you enjoy stories where the magic you cast comes with a cost, alliances are sitting on a knifes edge, your protagonists are facing external and internal shadows then this is the book for you.

Ethan Lee has given us a masterclass in creating a world that will haunt you and live rent free in your head and for me, I can't wait to read the next book in the Coven of the Bond Series.

A Dark Fantasy That Grabs You by the Throat

From the moment Nightflower: The Coven of the Bond Book 1 opens, Ethan Lee pulls you into a world that shivers with tension, magic, and danger. This is not a quiet fantasy; it’s one that beats with raw power, betrayal’s sting, and the burning need for vengeance. It’s 575 pages of relentless pacing, ancient pacts, and characters who aren’t just struggling to survive — they’re clawing their way out of darkness.

The protagonist’s journey is visceral. We begin in a cell, in oppressive darkness — damp stone walls, stale air, despair reigning, but also defiance. The author’s prose doesn’t shy from grit: you can taste the rot, feel the chains, smell the fear, even as hope flickers in unlikely places. That opening prologue alone sets the stakes high, and from there the momentum never lets up.

Magic in Nightflower feels dangerous in the best possible way. It’s unpredictable, costly, and entwined with the characters’ flaws and desires. Enemies are never simple villains — some are allies in disguise, some betray you when you least expect it. The worldbuilding is rich and gothic: pacts, curses, supernatural bonds, betrayals stitched into the very architecture of the world. The layers of power and consequence make every choice feel heavy.

Lee also understands pacing, suspense, and heartbreak. Just when things seem darkest — betrayal is revealed, arcs break, alliances shift — he hits you with a twist or a moment of emotional clarity that both cuts and uplifts. Friendships are tested, vengeance comes at great cost, and trust becomes a dangerous gamble. Yet even among the shadows, moments of kindness, loyalty, and sacrifice glow all the more brightly.

If there’s any quibble, it’s that with so many layers — so many villains, secrets, historical pacts — it can sometimes be overwhelming. One might wish for just a little more breathing space or more quiet moments to reflect before the next storm. But honestly, that’s a tiny complaint compared to how much this book delivers.

Final Thoughts

Nightflower is a masterful dark gothic fantasy: thrilling, pulse‑pounding, dangerous, and deeply satisfying. If you love stories where magic has a cost, where alliances are fragile, and where protagonists must face both external monsters and the shadows inside themselves, this is a total five‑star ride. Ethan Lee has crafted a world that haunts you long after the last page. I can’t wait to see what comes next in the Coven of the Bond.

✨ ARC Review – Nightflower by Ethan Lee ✨

Her power comes from her own memories - the darker and more painful they are, the stronger she becomes. But digging into the past comes at a price, and revenge might demand more than she’s willing to give…

🖤 Review:

Firstly, I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read before release!

I adored this book. I honestly can’t believe this is Ethan Lee’s debut novel - the writing is phenomenal. The story is dark, emotional, and beautifully layered with grief, rage, and power.

The magic system is one of the most original I’ve read: Caya’s need to dive into her own memories for strength adds so much emotional depth, and the transitions between past and present feel seamless and purposeful. It makes the story hit that much harder.

This isn’t your typical happily-ever-after kind of fantasy - it’s raw, heart-wrenching, and absolutely brimming with female rage and defiance. The atmosphere, the pacing, the emotional impact… everything was incredible.

I genuinely can’t wait to see what Ethan Lee writes next, and really hope we continue to follow Caya's story.
If you love revenge, witches, and hauntingly beautiful dark fantasy, this one needs to be on your radar.

Releasing 31st October 2025 – don’t miss it!

From the very first page, Nightflower drags you straight into a world steeped in shadows, vengeance, and painful beauty. This isn’t a gentle fantasy It’s raw and visceral, filled with magic that feels dangerous and characters who bleed emotion on every page.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Caya’s story broke me in the best way. Her pain, her resilience, and the choices she’s forced to make kept me torn between heartbreak and hope. There were moments I wanted to shake her, moments I wanted to protect her, and others where I just sat stunned at how much she’d endured. Ethan Lee writes grief and survival with an honesty that cuts deep, and that’s what makes this book so powerful.

The prose is rich and immersive, dripping with gothic atmosphere chains, blood, betrayal, and magic that burns instead of sparkles. Every scene feels intentional, even when it’s heavy. The pacing is relentless once it hits its stride, and the layers of betrayal, curses, and supernatural bonds create a world that’s as intricate as it is merciless.

If I had one critique, it’s that the book can feel a bit overwhelming at times. There are so many moving parts names, histories, magical rules that I occasionally wished for a short breath before diving back into the chaos. A pronunciation or creature guide would’ve been a nice touch to help ground readers in this dark, sprawling world.

Still, when I closed the book, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Nightflower isn’t just a story about revenge it’s about survival, the cost of power, and finding light when the world wants to keep you buried in darkness.

ARC review - 4.5 stars

This book is heartbreakingly good (maybe in not all the right ways at some points but I won’t spoil it). Caya’s journey is steeped in action, heartbreak and tough lessons and while you are rooting for her, the decisions and paths she decides to take leave you wondering if she’s doing things for the right reason or losing herself in her need for revenge.
Although there are some tough subjects covered in this book (tw - suicide) the author has done a great job of balancing the dark with some wit sprinkled in that catches you off guard. Alek in particular brought a lighter side to the story, he gave me Carrion Swift from quicksilver vibes.
I laughed, I cried, I felt helpless and I wanted more as soon as it ended!

This would have been a 5 star read except from a couple of little niggles for me -
• a pronunciation guide for the names, place names, spells etc would be a great help at the start as found myself struggling with some of them.
• the “hygre” creatures, I have no idea what they are supposed to be but they are brought into the story as if you should already know?
• I NEED more Naari in the next book, his character was really great for me and I looked forward to when he was part of the story, which in my opinion wasn’t enough!!!

I had the opportunity to read this as an ARC. I loved Caya my heart bled for the awful life she had to endure. This book is full of grief and sorrow but it turns this heartache into something that can be powerful.

From someone who has experienced a lot of grief I know how strong it can make someone. I will be honest, the book was a very slow burn to start with and I did think I was going to have to DNF it but I am so glad I pushed through.

It is dark, full of magic in a way that I haven’t really read before. There were some magical beast thrown in at points which might require some more detail about. Also it would be good to know how Nell because under the first witch command.

Memories are the quiet architects of resilience. They remind us of what we have endured, what we have learned and the strength that has always been ours to reclaim.

📖 ARC REVIEW 📖

“Upon the bleakest roads are the strongest of witches forged.”
That line sets the tone perfectly for this haunting, beautifully written dark fantasy. Caya’s story is equal parts grief and fury, a brutal and emotional exploration of what vengeance does to the soul.

Ethan Lee’s writing feels cinematic and poetic, each chapter soaked in atmosphere and tension. There’s a quiet power in watching Caya’s transformation from heartbroken survivor to something terrifyingly unstoppable. It’s violent, raw, and painfully human beneath all the magic and blood.

Nightflower is a dark tale of power, loss, and the fine line between justice and destruction, a must-read for fans of morally gray witches and vengeance that burns slow and steady.

Caya's journey is brutal and emotional, and I felt a attachment to the characters which kept me hooked. The characters have depth and complexities, which at one point left me feeling genuine sadness at one event in particular.

I found myself constantly questioning if Caya was doing the right thing, if she had lost her way or was following the plan she'd set. In the end it isn't black and white and I am still not sure whether Caya was blinded by revenge or if she did the right thing. The fight scenes in particular are epic and I had genuine concern about what the outcome would be.

It's a great debut novel from Lee and I cannot wait to return to the world.

This is a book that will haunt me for awhile. Caya truly transformed from a child of curiosity to a woman hell bent on a quest for vengeance. This book is about choices. Choices lead to one of two paths and in this, Caya was lead to a dead end of darkness. I didn’t expect this book to turn out into this but it is relatable to how life works. Sometimes we have the beauty and the tools of life to make something for ourselves. However, if we dwell with only the things we have lost, all we can turn to is the darkness. I hope that this isn’t the end for Caya that she can find another road but Ethan Lee has given a literature performance that will stick with me for books to come.
