It Was His Eyes

Rate this book
He was just a fisherman... until he met the eyes of God.

Rome is burning with hatred. The church is hunted. And in a quiet upper room, an old man tells his story—one that begins not with power or glory, but with failure, forgiveness, and a gaze that changed everything.
Peter was impulsive. Bold. Broken. Yet from the shoreline of the Sea of Galilee to the courtyard of denial in Jerusalem, and finally to a breakfast of restoration, one thing remained constant—His eyes.

“In It Was His Eyes, Craig Minty strips away the stained-glass version of faith and gives us a raw, soul-stirring portrait of redemption. Every word aches with honesty. Every scene pulses with grace. This isn’t just a story about Peter—it’s about us, and the Saviour who never looks away.”

“It Was His Eyes is a stunning narrative that takes you beyond theology into the raw humanity of Peter. Through doubt, denial, and divine grace, this book gives voice to every follower who’s ever stumbled and still longed to be seen by Jesus.” This book is a phenomenal piece of art."

I absolutely loved It Was His Eyes! I was drawn into Peter's journey in a way that felt completely human and real. Craig Minty does an incredible job of stripping away the stained-glass version of faith to show a raw, heartfelt story of failure, forgiveness, and restoration. Peter's boldness, impulsiveness, and brokenness made him so relatable, and the way his life is transformed by Christ's unwavering gaze is nothing short of moving. Every moment of this book aches with honesty and pulses with grace. This isn't just Peter's story, it's ours too, and it left me deeply inspired.

If you're in search of a literary experience that will leave you utterly captivated and emotionally stirred, look no further than this extraordinary book. I would go so far as to say it is one of the best books I have had the pleasure of reading in my lifetime.

I must admit, I was unprepared for the sheer brilliance that unfolded within its pages and the powerful emotions it would evoke within me. I felt a deep sense of amazement, smiled, cried repeatedly, and endlessly marveled at the sheer talent of the author, which is undoubtedly a gift from God. The author has now secured a place among my all-time favourites, wielding his gift with intention, and this book is a testament to that.

The writing itself is truly magnificent; its immersive quality allows you to feel as if you are in a room with one of Jesus' disciples, absorbing the tales firsthand. The words resonate so deeply that you momentarily forget they belong to the author; instead, you genuinely find yourself believing you are hearing from Peter himself. This experience etches itself into your heart and mind, lingering well past the book’s last page.

Beyond merely recounting the tales of Jesus, this work breathes life and authenticity into them. As I accompanied the narrative and dove into Peter's experiences, I found myself ruminating on the weight of his encounters and everything he saw, felt, and battled with - something I had never contemplated so deeply before. More than anything I was reminded of his humanity, complete with its flaws and imperfections. Yet, despite these shortcomings, he was seen, chosen, and enveloped in grace and love by Jesus; an echo of the same grace extended to all believers.

Altogether, this is a phenomenal book I know I will revisit time and again, valuing its insights and sharing its magnificence with future generations. For me, it transcends mere literature; it is a treasure destined to hold a cherished place in my family’s legacy.

This book was so powerfully written that it took me several days to process! The mysterious first person narrator of the novel is crafted in such a way that the reader, at some point throughout the novel, begins to feel as though he/she is the one in the book having a conversation with Peter. This book has a profound message that will meet each reader where he/she is at, just as God does.
