Prototype Model for a New Ecocity

Rate this book
Prototype Model for a New Ecocity is an avant-garde thinking book that explores concept ideas for creating a sustainable climate-resilient town in nature-designed to be traversed in ten minutes.
The book postulates that we must think envision and plan to create a distinctly unique settlement type, a model that is very different from the modern big city where we now live under sub-optimal conditions. Prototype is a visionary new settlement for up to 15,000 residents built on a 300 acres site, a new sustainable self sufficient climate resilient settlement typology, offering an alternative stress-free lifestyle. It is the antithesis of living in the big city.
To give context to Prototype's design model, the book traces the history of urban planning from its origins to the present. It includes urban planning precedents, with examples by leading architects and urban planners to derive insights, clues that could aid in establishing design parameters for the creation of a successful innovative new urban settlement form for Prototype.
Contemporary large cities fail to offer a healthy living environment. They suffer from traffic congestion, a lack of suitable housing for lower-income populations, stress, overcrowding, crime, pollution, social isolation, and inadequate infrastructure. The physical elements that constitute the urban fabric of major cities are disconnected and no longer maintain logical relationships with one another. It is time for a new city model.
The book is also an architectural project. It explains the author-architect rationale and the thought process leading to the formulation of the project's parti, followed by diagrams, floor plans, and 3D perspective drawings depicting the proposed Prototype-City model.
