Alright this series is starting to get back into a groove I am enjoying. I wish we could still see more of Mera, Garth, and Jackson as they try and fight their way out of the magic that shifts Atlantis out of reality. But I am really liking Mera’s plan to have them teleport her to Xebel as that exists outside of earth and should exist outside the range of magic afflicting them. And the rest of this story is quite good as well, it feels like a classic Aquaman tale as he fights ghost pirates, but we also see how conflicted he is dealing with all the new power he has accumulated. Sure he can hear a conflict in the ocean from around the world, but at what cost is this power? At the same time it turns out that his grown up daughter, Andrina, is the one causing all of the trouble for her own mysterious purposes. A younger version of herself properly from this time still exists with Mera, what’s going to happen when those two finally interact?! But like I said this is a fun issue, it’s great to see that the blue crew is still sticking with Aquaman, even if Arion is worried about the power that grows inside of him and fears that it will consume him. There really isn’t much to say about the main conflict this issue, other than how cool the fighting styles and art is. Arion especially pulls out some great moves by studying the magic that was used to resurrect the ghost pirates and then reversing it and returning them to the grave. Aquaman pulls some great movies by creating a typhoon to pull in and send as many ghost pirates as he can Arion’s way. Basically an assembly line of returning pirates to the grave, lol. But much to their dismay they completely loose track of time as the ship makes landfall in coast city and barrels down the street towards the pirate’s destination…where they buried their treasure! As soon as the captain and his crew got their treasure, which apparently contains something they believe will allow them to live, Andrina swooped in to reverse the spell used to bring them to life and steal the treasure out from under them, then slip into the shadows as the ship and crew disappeared before her father could find her. Possible objects that bring the dead back to life? Oh no…what is she planning?!

Felt a bit random, with a reveal that was... super obvious, so not really surprising. I hope we get to see more of Mera, Garth and Jackson soon.

I came into this story at issue 13...and wondered why Andrina was so bad... now I see how it started!
