DNF. I kept seeing this recommended on TikTok and I've decided to never trust that app again. Might be scary if aliens and monsters creep you out, but I wasn't sucked in by any of these.
I kept seeing this book on TikTok and I caved and finally read it. Man oh man am I glad I did. I stayed up way later than I intended and read this in one sitting. It was a lot of fun but I have to say, I am very glad my husband was home. Horror books just hit differently and this one left me feeling a little uneasy.
Each story in this book is very different than the one before it. There are a few short ones and a couple longer novella sized stories.
I have to say that the one about cats, is my favourite. It definitely made me look at my own cats and go "Don't you even think about it."
I looked to see if this author had more books but it doesn't look like they have a lot published, so hopefully they get more out there because I would love to read more.
I enjoyed the writing and it pulled me into each story.
I definitely suggest reading this one if you like anything horror related!
Cats: This one was alright and ended up being fairly enjoyable 2.5/5 ⭐️
The Toilet: This one shouldn't even exist 0.3/5 ⭐️
The Last Transmission: Again, mediocre and there's a typo on the second line of the story which annoyed me (kindle version) 1.2/5⭐️
The Necronomicon Protocol: Reminiscent of all preceding stories in the book combined. This probably would have been more enjoyable as a stand alone item. This story was basically a more in depth "Cats" x2 so, 3/5 ⭐️
These first 5 - pretty much felt like I read the same short story over and over again written in a different font.
The Right Mate: This one was a little different than the rest. It was okay I guess 2.5/5⭐️
Half of these stories are practically the same. A creature with higher intelligence than we can imagine consume humanity in highly sophisticated ways that ensure its victims are aware of what’s happening the entire time.
Cats, the last Transmission and the necronomicon protocol follow this pattern in some way.
The cats are secretly aliens that start eating humans in ways the ensure their survival to the last bite, along the way they learn more about the way humans behave and “update” their methods of killing Ok it was kind of scary, nauseating at best, torture porn at worst but a pretty interesting concept.
The last Transmission feature a virus that somehow destroyed the human body while keeping its victims alive so they feel and witness the horrors of their dying bodies… ok sounds a little familiar but this one was giving project Hail Mary and Martian vibes so I was gonna give it a pass.
The necronomicon protocol, entities with intelligence beyond our understanding consume humans in a way that they are able to witness and feel it all happening while simultaneously learning how humans react and “upgrading” their- wait a damn minute… this is literally the Cats Chapter but with slight differences, I agree this concept he’s has is interesting but it’s not THAT interesting I think I would’ve been fonder if he just wrote a whole novel surrounding this concept instead of three shorter stories with the same ideas.
Not to mention all the forcing down peoples throats in these, the horror in cats, the toilet and the Necronomicon protocol start with something forcing itself down a persons throat. We get it. It was gross the first time but now I’m just rolling my eyes. Boring

Well the title isn't an over exaggeration!! This small collection of sci-fi horror stories is brilliantly written, every horrifying detail described so clearly that I may be scarred for life. But I have no regrets.
What I loved about the book was that each story describes in detail the pain suffered by the victims, which I find can often be forgotten amongst the descriptions of injuries, I am in constant pain and wouldn't wish it on anyone. Knowing that these things caused such pain makes them so much scarier for me.
I've separated my thoughts per story below.
The Labratory. Giving birth is already scary enough. Why'd you have to make it worse?
Cats. I have never been so grateful to be a dog person! Incredibly graphic descriptions of humans being eaten alive. A truly brilliant story.
The Toilet. I have crohns disease and can spend a lot of time in the bathroom... I will never not think of this story while I'm in there!
The Last Transmission. Not too sure about this one. The descriptions are great but I'm not sure what to make of the story. Is the illness that killed all his fellow crew mates related to the little boy with a swirling void for a face? Or are they coincidence? Did the illness come from the boy? Its not really clear how the two are related.
The Necronomicon Protocol. This did not go where I thought it was going but I really enjoyed it!! Again, brillintly written and genuinely quite scary. Another great scifi horror.
The Right Mate. Very creepy. Noone wants to go on a date that results in being turned into a bug. Yet another thing for online daters to be worried about!
Highly recommend to all horror lovers, especially if you love sci-fi too.
I read 2 of the stories and nothing was scary. It's all just nauseatingly gross. If gore scares you then sure, it's scary. For me I was bored with a strong need to puke
