Going to give this another try. Scene that made me dnf was apparently a dream sequence I wasn’t patient enough to finish through.

Way too insta for me. He has his fingers in her at 23% and only days after her brother is killed in a car accident. Nope 🙂‍↔️

Really emotional second chance romance with some heart wrenching , pull on your heart string moments. Sam was her brothers best friend and the love of her life. It was crushing to see how he broke her heart and how she never got over him. As they are thrown back together it was tense waiting to see who would open up first and if they would be able to talk it out. Get ready for some lovely tension and heated scenes !!

Oh man. This book immediately takes you into a plunge of emotions relating to grief, heartbreak and self discovery. It is written so beautifully and will surely bring tears to your ears if you have ever dealt with grief in your personal life. FMC, Kat, has to deal with the loss of a sibling but also coming to face with the one guy she's been avoiding for years. Things didn't end in the best way for them so there's a lot of tension and moments of silence. The character development for Kat is well done and the inner dialogue progresses with her so well. I really enjoyed the flashbacks we would get throughout the book that connected to a moment in her life in the present day. It gave you an insight of what happened in the past that has made the character react or deal with what they are dealing with in the present day. MMC, Sam is so patient and caring despite his heart being on the line. His vulnerability with Kat is so good and goes to show how much honesty can make a difference. I genuinely love these two so much and I yelled when the MOMENT finally came. So excited to keep reading more from this author.

Kat is happy with her life. At least mostly. But then tragedy strikes that turns everything upside down. Back home, she is faced with the man she has been avoiding for years and deciding if they can be friends again as they navigate this loss together. But Sam is done staying away from Kat. Can she trust him again to give them a shot?

Talk about a book full of emotions! Amelia loves to recommend books to me that emotionally devastating. And now she went and wrote one! I loved the characters, from Kat and Sam to their families, to Kat's friends. I connected in so many ways with Kat! And Sam, our dear Sam. He was there for Kat, but also went for his second chance and was open about his feelings. I also enjoyed the flashbacks we got along the way. Darn you, Amelia, for making us love a character after they are already gone! Kat's friends are also amazing and I loved the found family vibe they brought to the story!

This book had me in a complete and utter emotional chokehold from start to finish. I cried so many tears reading this story. It was such a beautiful story of grief, love, and second chances. Kat and Sam truly have a life long love story fit into this book and watching it unfold really pulled on my heart strings. The character building was magnificent and this debut novel for this author was truly just next level amazing. The ending was PERFECTION and everything I could have wanted.

Book Review: It Comes Back To You by Amelia C. Rose

Genre: Contemprary Romance

Published: 2025

1. Summary (Spoiler-Free)

Loss brought two estranged friends back together. Dealing with grief while also trying to fix a relationship broken will take a toll but there’s also comfort in not going trough the dark journey of that grief alone. Kat and Sam must work through past pain and hurt while also dealing with the loss of her brother and his friend.

2. First Impressions

As someone who has experienced the death of more than one close relative, I have to say I am not mad at how grief was handled by the author. Losing someone is knowing the pain never quite goes away. It ebbs and flows. On some days it will feel like you can’t get out from under this heavy boulder of pain that just wraps you in tight while on some days you’re better able to navigate and deal.

I enjoyed the characters and now that I am thinking about it, I most especially enjoyed Kat’s friend- Liv. She was so well written. Kat and Sam had quite a lot to work through but they did it all quite gracefully considering the loss that happened. I enjoyed watching them heal their relationship, getting back to being friends and then lovers.

3. What Worked Well

The character devlopment were quite well done. There’s something about Kat and Sam realizing they wanted different for their careers and going after it and while the loss definitely played a parting that, I like that they did it anyways. Also the growth from being young adults who blew up their friendship because they wouldn’t communicate, Kat especially to adult who talked things through and the effects it all had on them was so well done.

Again, I loved how dealing with loss and grief was handled, I loved the friendships and the relationships. Such strong themes prevalent through out the book

4. What Could Be Improved

I am not going to lie, I hated the nickname Sam had for Kat. It made me cringe every time I read it but that’s just my personal thoughts, doesn’t detract from the book at all especially in consideration of the fact that he started calling her that since they were little.

I am not quite sure I enjoyed all the back and forth between the present and the future. I do feel like there were times when the flashback to the past wasn't necessary.

5. Who Should Read It

If you’ve dealt with the loss of a loved one and you would like some good to go alongside that then yes, this is for you.

I understand that loss can be heavy so this might not be for everyone but you should know that it was well done by the author so I recommend for sure.

6. Final Thoughts & Rating

This is my first read by Author Amelia C. Rose and I am not at all disappointed.

I will be reading more books by her.

I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have received an advanced copy of It Comes Back To You from the author! 🫶

It’s time to give a standing ovation to It Comes Back To You because this book made me cry my eyes out hard and I loved it with all my heart! 🥹🩷 This book is truly a gem and I can’t wait till it comes out and everyone gets to discover this beautiful and heartfelt story that touched my heart and will be one I forever remember! 🫶

I wish I could have gone and given Kat the biggest hug in the whole wide world. She goes through so much heartbreak and turmoil in this story with the loss of her brother and Amelia Rose did such an incredible job with writing about the grief that she is experiencing and how that grief encompasses every single aspect of her life. Don’t even get me started with Sam because I love him so much. He even rides a motorcycle which I think is so cool. He is so sweet and kind and also Kat’s brother’s best friend. It honestly is beautiful how this massive loss brings Sam and Kat back together to support each other! 🥺 In other words I loved this story so much and Amelia Rose is officially an autobuy author for me now! 🫶

If you love romance books, friends to lovers, second chance romance, grief, and a book will bring you through a wringer of emotions this is the one for you! 🫶

Make sure to have boxes of kleenex.

Let me just say that I have been with this book since the beginning. I have read it at every stage and have fallen more and more in love with these characters at each time. I may have yelled several times (possibly still do) at the wonderful Ameila over certain scenes. But even with the yelling, the tears (lots and lots of tears), I fell in love with Sam and Kat. Their story though fraught with loss, is one that many can relate to. The way Amelia builds the world and characters is truly something to read. She really pulls (more like jerks) you into the story. Once you start reading it's so hard to stop. It's one of those books that just pulls you in and won't let go. So run and get this book. You will not be disappointed. Just remember to stock up on kleenex.

This was such an emotional read for so many reasons. Grief, broken hearts, yearning and pining and having the courage to trust that someone is going to catch you. My heart squeezed and there were instant tears in my eyes every time I read “Did I say I love you?”. The way that the parts that were told from when they were younger helped you learn more about Ethan and his relationship with Kat, while simultaneously showing you how Sam and Kat were and felt was absolutely perfect. Amelia’s writing paints a beautiful picture and has you feeling the emotions of every one of these wonderful people.

Arc review This story was such an emotional, heartfelt read. It Comes Back to You follows Kat as she’s forced to face grief, loss, and the parts of her past she thought she’d buried including Sam, her brother’s best friend and the one who got away.

The grief in this book felt very real! You could feel the weight of Kat’s emotions, and the way the author shows how loss can reshape relationships really hit home. It’s not just about romance it’s about healing, forgiveness, and learning how to move forward without leaving the past behind completely. I completely loved Sam he is one of my new favorites mmc!

Kat and Sam’s history adds so much depth to their connection. The tension, the shared memories, the unresolved feelings, it all made their second chance romance feel meaningful instead of rushed! This was a great read!

Without a doubt, It Comes Back to You by Amelia C. Rose is a 5-star read for me! Thank you very much for allowing me to be an ARC Reader! Words cannot express how absolutely in love with this story I am. The main characters, Kat and Sam were absolutely adorable. I couldn't help but adore and root for both of them.

The story dives into topics of grief and managing it. The way Amelia wrote it all was very well done. And, let me tell yall!!! I WAS NOT expecting this book to make me cry how it did. It definitely hit a little close to home for me, and I LOST IT! Sometimes you need a good book to hit you in the feels just right!

Not only was the story perfection, but the epilogue was *chef's kiss* 🤌! It was everything I could've hoped to get out of Kat and Sam's story. I fully recommend this book to any and everyone!

DO YOU WANT TO CRY? GOOD because who doesn't need a good cry every now and then. This book is such an emotional, heart‑wrenching second‑chance romance, and I felt every bit of it.

Kat and Sam’s story is full of grief, longing, and that slow, aching hope that maybe you get another shot at the person who once broke you. Watching them navigate shared loss while trying to untangle years of hurt was tense in the best way. I kept waiting to see who would crack first, who would finally say the thing they’ve been swallowing for years.

The tension? Delicious. The emotional moments? Absolutely pulled on every heartstring I have. And the flashbacks made everything hit even harder. Kat’s friendships and the found‑family vibes were such a bright spot too.

This was my first time beta reading, and getting to be part of this process was so special and awesome. Thank you to Amelia for trusting me to be a beta reader for you... and have I told you that I love you?

Oh my gosh, what a ride!! This was my first ARC read and I’m so grateful to the author for letting me be a part of this!

This book was about grief. It caused MANY emotions, but in the best way possible! I couldn’t put it down! I had to find out what happened next. I really enjoyed the characters!

This is a really perfect romance stand alone, and that’s why it gets a 5! Romance, spice, with a side of emotional damage? Yes please.

Highly recommend!

It takes only one second for life to change and this book makes you feel every single one of them.

I went into It Comes Back To You slowly, stealing pages whenever I could, and then suddenly I was devouring it over four nights between mom life, late nights, and quiet moments because once the emotions hit, there was no stopping. As a mom, finishing a book this fast says everything.

This story pulls you straight into a black hole of grief, heartbreak, love, and self discovery and refuses to let go.

Kat’s grief felt raw, honest, and painfully real. I connected to her so deeply that I had to put the book down just to text my own brother and tell him I love him. Her loss does not get brushed aside or rushed and that is what makes it so relatable. Watching Kat grieve while being held up by Sam and Liv, who were also mourning their own loss, added so much depth and authenticity to the story.

And Sam. Sammy was everything. A true gentleman who carried kindness, patience, and quiet devotion in every moment. He remembered Kat in ways that mattered, from how she takes her coffee to how she needs to be loved, even after years apart. Their chemistry was emotionally charged yet grounded. Grieving together, bantering, talking through miscommunication, all of it felt natural and real, never over the top.

Liv was the kind of best friend we all wish we had. Steady, loving, and fiercely present. Another side character that completely stole my heart.

The memories scattered throughout the book of Kat, her brother, Sam, and Liv added layers that made the loss feel lived in and the love feel earned. And if you think Kat losing her brother is the most heartbreaking part, just wait for the epilogue. One scene absolutely broke me and I sobbed like a baby.

Hard to believe this is a debut because the emotional depth is stunning.

Thank you Amelia, from the bottom of my heart, for trusting me with this story. This one will stay with me for a long time.

Kat's brother Ethan dies in a tragic accident, and she's devastated. The only person who truly understands her grief? Sam - her brother's best friend and the man who broke her heart seven years ago.

They realize the only way to get through this loss is together. But Kat has spent seven years avoiding Sam for a reason. If she lets him back into her orbit now, will she be able to handle him breaking her heart again?

- This is a very emotional book and I cried, multiple times. I've said before, any book that makes me ugly cry gets an automatic 5 stars. Lately I've been sticking with lighter books because there are too many heavy emotions going on in the real world...the way Amelia C. Rose writes grief is both beautiful and devastating. With how the characters went through so much - I was relieved that they got their happily ever after.
- The second chance element had real weight. Sam didn't just reject Kat seven years ago because he didn't have feelings - but we find out why and how it changes Kat's perspective.
- 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 - it wasn't rushed, but full of distrust. Kat didn't want to give her whole heart to someone who'd hurt her before. The forced proximity after tragedy gave them space to heal together, but it was something that they had to work through.
- Mental health representation was handled well. The grief, the depression, angst, the processing - it all felt authentic.

Many thanks to the author for the ARC; opinions are completely my own. 💗

This story completely wrecked me in the best possible way. From the very first chapters, Amelia C. Rose pulls you straight into Kat and Sam’s emotional journey with such raw, heartfelt writing that I felt every ounce of their grief, heartbreak, and healing. After Kat unexpectedly loses her brother Ethan, she’s forced back into the life of Sam — Ethan’s best friend and the man who shattered her heart years ago. Watching them reconnect while navigating loss felt incredibly authentic, emotional, and beautifully layered.

What I loved most was how deeply human these characters felt. Kat was relatable, vulnerable, and easy to root for, while Sam completely stole my heart as the tattooed, emotionally devoted book boyfriend. Their second-chance romance carried real emotional weight, and the slow rebuilding of trust between them was handled so beautifully. Nothing about their journey felt rushed — every conversation, every moment of healing, and every step toward forgiveness felt earned. The mental health and grief representation was especially well done, capturing the heaviness of loss while still leaving room for hope, love, and healing.

This book is emotional, tender, and unforgettable the kind of story that will absolutely make you cry but also leaves your heart feeling full by the end. Between the brother’s best friend tension, small-town setting, found family vibes, and beautifully written happily-ever-after, this was such a moving and memorable read that I couldn’t put down.

This one does not gently ease you in… it pulls you under and then hands you tissues on the way down. The emotional intensity is consistent throughout, with moments that genuinely feel devastating in a quiet, lingering way rather than anything overly dramatic.

I ended up reading almost the entire book in a single sitting, which says a lot about how gripping it is. The pacing works in its favour, and the narrative flow makes it easy to stay immersed. I also found myself going back to revisit certain sections, especially the flashbacks, which are handled with real care and clarity. They add meaningful depth rather than feeling like interruptions.

Kat is a character who feels very real and relatable, and her emotional journey is written in a way that makes it easy to connect with her experiences. The supporting characters strengthen the story significantly. Liv stands out as an incredibly supportive and grounding best friend, the kind of presence that adds warmth without overshadowing the central narrative. Sam’s character also brings a lot of emotional weight to the story, contributing to those moments that linger after you’ve put the book down.

It is worth emphasising the importance of checking the trigger warnings at the beginning. The themes are handled thoughtfully, but they are heavy, and readers should approach with that in mind.

Overall, a moving and immersive read that leans into emotion in a meaningful way and leaves a lasting impression.

Thank you Amelia C Rose for providing this ARC of It Comes Back to You in exchange for my review.

Kat thinks she has a pretty good life, except for the part of her life where she is actively avoiding her brother's best friend, Sam. When her brother dies unexpectedly, she’s suddenly thrown back into the orbit of Sam, and she is left to face her feelings head on. As they both deal with their grief , Kat has to decide whether to stay stuck in the past of her hurt or to take a chance that Sam might actually be worth the leap this time.

If you are looking for a book that eases you into the all the emotions, this is not the book for you. The first few chapters start out really emotion heavy but it's written so beautifully and really allows you to dive right into the story of Kat and Sam. Kat was such a relatable character, and that made it so much easier to connect to the story and Kat's life. I also love that this was based in Columbia/Charleston! Amelia really did a great job with the character development of both Kat and Sam, and the way that they both worked through their grief was beautifully captured and written.

The second chance love story of It Comes Back to You is so well done, and Sam was such a swoony choice for a book boyfriend. He and Kat complimented each other in their relationship so well. I LOVED the open communication that they had in their reignited relationship. Overall, I really enjoyed this love story and I can't wait to see what else Amelia comes out with because this one was such an easy and enjoyable read. Highly Recommend.

Sam and Kat

Tropes:
* Small town romance
* Brother’s best friend
* Navigating loss (sibling
* Unrequited love
* Long separation
* Second chance
* Found family
* Mental health rep

The first few chapters were absolutely heartbreaking. Between Ethan and then one of her last real interactions with Sam (via flashback), it was so painful for Kat.

The constant “Did I say I love you?” was devastating.

The main issue I have is the whole ’protecting the friendship while denying the person you love’… It doesn’t scream ‘I love you above all others’… especially because he was planning to marry someone else.

“Because of Ethan.”

That, and the looonnnggggg separation, it doesn’t really give me confidence in his feelings.

So essentially, now that her brother is dead and the barrier is out of the way, now, he feels that he can approach her. GTFOH.

The characters often revert to patterns where it still seems like they’re teenagers - some of their interactions feel quite immature.

This was an emotional story, dealing with loss, heartbreak and grief. Sam and Kat circle each other, and seem to come together, but with roadblocks in their path, it doesn’t seem to be a straightforward path to happiness.
I loved the epilogue. It was adorable and made me so happy to see their HEA.

This

This was such a beautiful tear-jerking story about grieving the loss of a love one while continuing to move forward though life because the world doesn't stop when you are hurting.

I can’t thank Amelia Rose enough for the arc copy. This is my honest opinion!! I can’t wait for more books from this author.. She has become an automatic buy!!

Kat is emotionally scarred by her brothers best friend Sam. They grew up together both had feelings for each other for years. She put her heart on the line. He turned her down. She has not been able to forgive him.

Fast forward several years later as adults. They are forced together again due to unexpected circumstances.

They both still have feelings for each other. But is that enough to be able to put their past rejection and fears?

There are so many factors against them. They live in different states, he is older, her brothers best friend, she’s off limits to him.

Will they finally get the happily ever after they have dreamed of as kids?

Almost every happy memory they have from their childhood involved the other in some way. Can their adult life be the same n way?

Thank you Amelia for the opportunity to be an ARC reader!✨

It comes back to you by Amelia C. Rose is a sort of a second chance romance. It follows Kat, who has always loved her brother's best friend but due to an incident (where he broke her heart), never spoke to him again until serious tragedy strikes that brings them back together. Generally, I'd say I really enjoyed the book, it even triggered some memories and tears for me.

‎The book begins with major impact. It felt like I joined at the guy wrenching moment, and everything was being explained as we went on. The plot was great, as well as the pacing. The author captured the past while still focusing on the present exceptionally well.

‎There's also major character development. We see Kat go from unsure to bring vocal about her thoughts and confronting her feelings, and the same for Sam as well. We also see them taking reins of their lives in major ways career-wise. Grief is the major presence in this book. I like the fact that the author was able to capture the messiness of healing or living with grief. I also really enjoyed how Sam was patient, open and supportive with Kat.

‎I'll recommend this book to anyone who loves brother's best friend, second chance romances, also anyone dealing with grief. It was definitely a great read!

ARC REVIEW 💜 — I JUST finished reading and crying for the SIXTH TIME because of this book. This small-town, second chance, brother’s best friend, friends to lovers romance, is not something I typically pick up. But my sweet friend wrote it, so of course I gave it a chance! And NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP? Of course I’d pick it up.

Some of the thoughts that ran through my head while reading this book:
ONE: “DID I SAY I LOVE YOU?”
TWO: GRIEF. OUCH.
THREE: I’m too single for this 🤣😭
FOUR: Kitty Kat, you lucky gal, you 😭💜
FIVE: Any real life Sams left out here? With the yearning, and pining, just the right amount of spice and aftercare? HELLO?

LISTEN TO ME. Do NOT let me saying how many times I cried scare you away from this book. PICK IT UP. The family and best friend dynamics in It Comes Back to You were absolutely amazing with the way everyone supported each other through their grief and life changes. And a love like Kat and Sam’s? YES. PLEASE.

YES. I CRIED. But it’s justified. I PROMISE, the ending of this book put my heart back together. Which honestly made me cry more.

Amelia, BRAVA MY DARLING! I cannot wait for everything else you have in store for your readers! 😭🥹💜

Wow. This was such an incredible, emotional ride. One minute I was full-on bawling, the next I was laughing, swooning, and clutching my heart. This book absolutely broke me—but in all the best ways.

There were so many moments in Kat and Sam’s story that I deeply related to, which made the experience even more powerful. It felt personal, raw, and achingly real. Amelia has a way of pulling you in from the very first page and holding you completely captive until the final word—and even then, she doesn’t really let you go.

I devoured this book and loved every single second of it. In fact, I put off reading the last 10% for a few hours because I simply wasn’t ready for it to be over yet. Kat and Sam’s story is written so beautifully and so perfectly, it felt like saying goodbye to real people.

One of my absolute favorite quotes has to be:
“I’ll marry you Kitty Kat and play Barbie’s with you when Ethan is sick.”
That line alone had me emotional and smiling through tears.

This is the kind of story that stays with you long after you turn the last page. Kat and Sam’s journey will live in my head and heart for a very long time—and I already know a reread is coming very soon.

Amelia is a dear friend of mine, but don’t go thinking that makes me biased! That being said, this book…Amelia’s writing has a way of ripping you apart…only to put you together again…somehow as a better version of yourself.

Our FMC, Kat, is a strong and determined character that has her world fall apart around her one tragic day. Never to be the same again. Rushing home to gather the pieces of her shattered family and heart…she comes face to face with the one man she never could forget. The only man she ever really wanted…

Sam, our MMC, returns to his hometown, grief stricken and trying to process the sudden loss of his best friend. This puts him back in the orbit of Kat, the one woman he always wanted but could never have.

This is a story about two people that were once close and now find themselves drawn to each other again, can the pain of their past be overcome? Can the pain of their present bring them together? In this book you will cross a series of emotions that will stay with you long after you finish it…Amelia’s writing is truly a gift and the fact that this is her debut will astound you.

A wonderful book Amelia, it broke me…and I am the better for it.

The book opens with Kat, living what seems like a perfect life, working away from home, being with her best friend, and thriving in her career.
Her world is turned upside down when she receives a call that her brother has been in an accident and is rushed into surgery. She travels home, only to discover that he has passed away.

Sam, her brother’s best friend, becomes a key part of her journey as they navigate grief together. While there were hints of a connection between them in their youth, nothing ever happened, until now.

The story follows their path through loss, the development of their feelings for each other, and the effort to rebuild their lives.

One line that stood out is her repeated question: “Did I say I love you?”—a reflection of the lingering pain and regret she feels after her brother’s death. Along the way, they learn to support each other, confront their past feelings, and move forward.

Overall, this is a moving story about grief, love, and discovering unexpected connections in difficult times.

Thank you Amelia Rose for the opportunity to read Sam and Kat's story early.

This was a nice read. The way it portrayed grief and how the FMC and everyone were coping, and healing, opened the floodgates, especially the FMC, trying to recall if she had told her brother that she loved him one last time or not. I loved that there were glimpses of not just the bond between the FMC and the MMC as kids and teenagers, but also the dynamic between the FMC and her brother. While I am not really a fan of brother's bestfriend stories where the issue of the MCs not getting together is like the one mentioned in the book, I was able to let it slide. I am grateful the author added the epilogues and the bonus chapter from the MMC's perspective. I would have loved to see more of his POV, even in between, as well. I kind of didn't like the whole jealousy kind of threads that kept coming in, and I was not really comfortable with how the Claire storyline had happened, but nevertheless it was a good book. There were times I wished the book had spanned across a couple of more years to see how the MCs not just reconcilied because of the shared grief but more proper reconnection and growth.

”I’ll do whatever you want to do, Kat, as long as I get to be with you.” - Sam

THIS WAS SUCH A SAD BOOK, TURNED CUTE BOOK. I love Amelia’s writing and this is such an amazing debut novel and I am so excited for her to write more in this series.

The funeral scene of Ethan was soooo sad. My heart breaks for Kat, her family and Sam.

P.S. Can I work in Kat’s moms bakery!! The little loaf? So cutee.

Overall, I highly recommend this book if you want a beautiful and sad, but cute story with no third act breakup!

What to expect/Tropes:
🏍️ small town
🏍️ second chance romance
🏍️ motorcycle MMC
🏍️ childhood friends to lovers
🏍️ brother’s best friend
🏍️ returns to hometown
🏍️ loss & grief

Pros:
- NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP
- The relationship development and character development was so perfect
- Amelia’s writing style

Cons:
- NOTHING HONESTLY!!

Thank you Amelia C. Rose for providing the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

First of all thank you Amelia for giving me a chance to read your book 😊.

Now lets talk about the book. This book will make you believe in love again and that second chance can be the best one. Kat and Sam they broke me in a very beautiful way. Kat who’s been living her life discovering things suddenly come back to her home after a tragic loss and grief with her family. That’s where come Sam who she’s been avoiding for a long time. She’s debating either to give it a try and be friends with Sam or lose the rest. I just loved how their story came out. How they navigate through ups and downs.

This book is so good that you’ll feel every emotion. Their grief, love, care everything is so good. I’ve finished this book as soon I’ve started it. I couldn’t put it down. I literally devoured this book.

Would recommend this book to everyone 100%. And I’m sure everyone gonna love it.

Thank you Amelia C Rose for sending this ARC. This review is voluntary; all opinions are my own.

It Comes Back to You is heartbreakingly beautiful (emphasis on the “heartbreaking” part, because it made me cry in chapter 2…and chapter 11…and 12…and 42…and 47…and the epilogue…and probably other parts that I’ve forgotten). The way this book absolutely WRECKED me isn’t even funny. I fell in love with the characters, I felt sympathy and empathy in turns, rooted for them, and squealed like a pig every time something good happened for them. The side characters are life and I would like some of them to be my best friends, please, ASAP.

And everything felt SO real. As a person who has experienced grief and mourning and loss, this book was deep and meaningful and moving. I felt seen, like I was walking along on this journey with them. But overall, this book is a story of love transcending everything. Their romance doesn’t magically fix all of their problems, but instead gives them a lifeboat in the storm, an anchor in rough waters (I don’t know why all my metaphors are sea-based today, but here we are). While both Kat and Sam are experiencing profound devastation, they keep each other afloat (sorry, last one) and their love saves them. The spice is, of course, the cherry on top, but it’s the depth and beauty of their relationships with each other and the other characters that makes this book a five-star read. It’s perfection! I’ll take a million more, thank you.
