Clinically insane. Murdered Suzanne Bishop brutally in cold blood.
That’s what my chart says—signed right there on the bottom by the doctors who declared me a lost cause after their pathetic treatments didn’t “fix” me. According to them, I’m broken. Dangerous. A monster. But here’s the thing—they’re wrong. I’m perfectly sane.
Sure, I like cutting people open. It’s fascinating, really. That doesn’t make me a damn lunatic. And yet, here I am, locked away in Wellard Asylum, where I’ve spent the past few years wasting away while the world sleeps soundly, thinking they’re safe from people like me.
They called it the best place for someone with my “condition,” but we all know what they really meant is that it's safer for everyone else if I’m stuck in here.
What they failed to realize is that Wellard isn’t just home to me. It’s crawling with others like me. And while I’ve been patient, biding my time, I have no intention of staying much longer. But before I leave, I think I’ll have a little fun.
“they think crazy is wild eyes and drool. screaming at walls. shitting your pants in a corner. real crazy is polite. patient. thoughtful.”
thank you so much nova babes for the arc !! i’m always amazed with how detailed and packed your short stories are 😍 this absolutely went beyond that !!
this is a dark and depraved backstory of johnny. it’s not sweet nor is it safe. it’s full of degradation and violence. dark obsession, MM, sadist + masochist, puppet / master dynamic, sexual coercion, psychological abuse, manipulation, medical torture, necrophilia, emotional blackmail, non / dub con, blood play, self half, mental illness, cannibalistic implications, part of the wellard asylum series 🪦
they say johnny has committed a murder so gruesome that he is considered a psychopath. although he’s stuck in this asylum, he still gets his way. people just want things and are greedy for more. he uses this to play with the doctors and nurse … even patients. when he meets his next obsession, gabriel who is the complete opposite of johnny, oh does he become possessive ☺️ gabriel is a shy and timid patient. he just wants to keep his down and blend into the background. he never wants to draw attention to himself. but that doesn’t work when the monster has his eyes set on him. johnny will always notice gabriel. he will quite literally rip heads off from those who even dare to go near gabriel. but with every good thing, there’s always something looking to destroy it. and what happens when there’s a price to pay 👀
being back with johnny and his unhinged antics just feels like coming home 🖤 if you haven’t met johnny yet, you can definitely just right into this book !! or you can meet him in the “cirque du désir” series, and “slay all the way” 🙌🏼
We meet Johnny, they say he’s here because he committed a m*rder, so horrendous he must be a crazy psychopath 🤭 He in turn takes a liking for another patient Gabriel, shy, keeps his head down drawing in the hopes no one notices him…wrong! Johnny sees him, sees what others skim over, reads him, takes him, owns him! Until freedom can be gained but is there a price to pay?
I can’t tell you how descriptive Nova’s writing is, it’s like dark poetry, ensuring you are held captive with the visuals on each page you turn. Totally loved all the macabre chaos within the walls of Wellard Asylum.
This book was an atrocity in the best possible way, and I devoured every filthy second. Johnny is pure poison wrapped in charm, and I couldn’t look away even if I tried. He’s not written to be liked, but Nova makes him impossible to ignore. Smug, cruel & magnetic. Exactly the kind of monster I want to follow straight into the dark.
Wellard Asylum deserves its own star. The place is alive. Breathing, rotting, watching. Every scene drips with that suffocating atmosphere, like you can smell the mildew & hear the screams echoing down the halls. It’s not just a backdrop: it’s the stage, the cage, the monster’s nest. And I’m obsessed with it.
This book doesn’t pull punches. It’s graphic, violent, disturbing, and unapologetically so. But that’s the beauty of it...you go in knowing you’re not going to get sunshine or redemption, and it’s better for it. If you want to be unsettled, if you crave the kind of horror that crawls under your skin and stays there, Atrocity delivers.
“I’m the monster they check under their beds for. The lunatic they whisper about when the meds kick in. I’m the reason they don’t sleep.”
“You’re my broken little relic. I’ll fuck the heaven out of you and bury hell in its place.”
I ✨ABSOLUTELY DEVOURED✨ this. I don’t know how I got here or when but.. I never want to leave. Atrocity is Johnny’s story before Á La Folie. This was completely unhinged, twisted, and dark. I expected nothing less from Johnny. I knew he was twisted and I really enjoyed getting to be inside his mind. His inner dialogue had me cracking up so many times. He’s one of my favorite psychos after all. The spice.. oh my the spice. 🥵🥵 Johnny is the king of degradation. The way he spoke to Gabe had my mouth hanging open and my feet kicking. The ending? The ending was everything. 🖤🎪
Nova, you are a true QUEEN of all things depraved.
It gave us degradation, mutilation, dubious consent, corruption, MM, and asylum setting.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the Wellard Asylum series.
This was extremely dark. Please check trigger warnings.
I've loved Johnny since he first made an appearance in a la folie. with every book I've fallen in love with him more.
Atrocity is Johnny's story before he meets Lux and joins Cirque Du Désir.
Johnny is so unapologetically unhinged. he is by far my favourite psycho. I ate this book up. From everything he got up to in wellard asylum to the moment he met Lux, this book was unhinged perfecting. and boy, did i do a little happy dance and get excited when he met Lux, and then got said when I remembered their story is over.
I'm so glad we finally got the story of Johnny's past. It did not disappoint one bit, Nova has me so hooked on this world. it will forever be one of my top series.
This authors writing style is just so satisfying. The descriptions and inner monologues are always leaving me drooling. This was such a twist for this standalone series. And honestly I loved every single depraved moment.
Johnny Cutter. I will never get enough of this man. He’s unhinged, psychotic, unpredictable—and yet somehow hilarious (yes, I know, I need therapy).
I first fell for him back in the Cirque Du Désir series, but now getting his own backstory? Absolute perfection. This prequel gave me everything I didn’t even know I needed. Dark, twisted, chaotic—and somehow even better than I imagined.
If you love a character who keeps you guessing, makes you laugh at the most wrong moments, and leaves you questioning your sanity for loving him…

I'm going to start this by saying that I will read ANYTHING that Nova writes because I am just OBSESSED with her books and characters.
This follows Johnny who we meet in Cirque Du Dèsir series. It is before he has been to the circus and WOW do we MEET Johnny. He is twisted, crazy, and is looking for his way out of the asylum. You think Johnny and the other patients are twisted, they aren't the only ones who are a little twisted as well. When there is a new patient at the Asylum he catches the attention of Johnny and he has his sights set on him.
Gabriel is the newbie in the asylum and he catches the eye of Johnny. He is quiet, keeps to himself, finds himself staring at Johnny but also tries to avoid anyone. It is just him and his notebook that he carries around everywhere. He finds himself gaining protection of Johnny who most are intimated of.
The spicy scenes between Johnny and Gabriel 🥵 they aren't full of love, it is possession, lust and twisted. I couldn't get enough of them because they just were EVERYTHING. The way Johnny would leave Gabriel basically starving for their next interaction.
Before we start anything, this is a dark erotic horror…there is no romance at all in this and it is very dark so check your trigger warnings before embarking on this journey! Your mental health matters! That being said, this is a dark, depraved and delicious story of johnny before joining cirque du desir!
Johnny is as unhinged as ever in this book when he gets Gabriel in his sights in Wellard Asylum. What Johnny wants, Johnny gets. The spice and depravity is raw, psychotic and full of degradation and violence! The ending of this book was a perfect start to the cirque du desir stories when Johnny meets Lux-two warped peas in a pod!
The writing style was easy to read. The length of chapters was spot on and the length of the book was perfect! Again, a perfect dark erotic horror book, executed in an exquisite way!
Releasing September 21st
Overall ratings:
🌟 5/5 🌶️ 5/5 ☠️ 5/5 (TWs necr0philia, 🩸, unaliving, s&m, degradation/humiliation, MM, dark obsession)
Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, how I absolutely adore you and your insanity. What does that say about me? I’m not entirely sure, but I’m rolling with it.
This book is depravity in its entirety. The authors note at the beginning didn’t even prepare me for the absolute mayhem inside these pages. Knowing Johnny from past books, I knew it would be insane, but this was next level, beautiful insanity.
If you’re looking for something that will shove its hand down your throat and tell you to pay attention, this is the book for you.🩸
⚠️As always, PLEASE check trigger warnings before proceeding ⚠️
Thank you, Nova, for the ARC! I devour everything you write and cannot wait for more!
4.5 ⭐️: rounded up to 5! This book was absolutely ✨INSANE✨ (+ had one of the most FCKED scenes I think I’ve read in a book so far: 🫢)
When I’m in need of an unhinged erotic horror book - Nova always delivers. Set in Wellard Asylum, Johnny is absolutely off his rocker! + when he sets his eyes on Gabriel, the new intake, he vows to own every single piece of him…
+ does he ever: 😋 if you touch what’s his? You pay the HIGHEST consequences: ☠️ it’s not love: it’s wanting to OWN someone, mind - body - soul. But betray him? + it’s over for everyone. I cannot wait to read the other books in this series - Thank you to Nova Kane for this arc! I can’t wait to see others thoughts once they read it.
This book won’t be for everyone, but it was for me! 😇
Also, this is a background story to a character from Nova Kane’s Cirque Du Désir series!
This book is an absolute blood soaked ride from start to finish! Nova Kane wastes no time pulling you into Johnny’s unhinged world, and once you’re there you can’t look away. The pacing is relentless, the gore is vivid and unapologetic, and the horror elements are so well executed. What I loved the most was the way Johnny was deranged, broken, and yet terrifyingly devoted to the only person (or possession...) he cared about. The ending left me starving for more! So I will definitely be picking up her other series!
Wow — I never thought I’d enjoy an MM book, but I really liked this one.
Johnny was such a compelling character — dark, unhinged, and completely captivating. I couldn’t stop reading because I needed to know how it would all turn out.
The horror isn’t as strong as in the other books of the Wellard Asylum series, but it doesn’t need to be revolting to be good. Plus, it’s nice to have a badass, hot main character for a change in this asylum 😁
Just make sure to check the content warnings — this story is dark, and as horror erotica, it doesn’t promise a happily ever after.
Loved loved loved this. Johnny is everything. So unhinged, psychotic, magnetic, basically everything you shouldn’t like but love anyway. He was hilarious and had me laughing and falling totally in love with him as I questioned myself for it. Make sure to not skip over the triggers if you have any. This story is so amazingly dark and twisted and I almost wish I could erase my mind and read it again for the first time.
Did we really think this book wouldn’t be unhinged like Johnny 🤭 Forever left with my mouth open with Johnny and his wild mind 🤪 Him and his little puppet, HOT. The praise AND degradation 🥵🥵
And the end me had kicking my feet. I LOVED the little part with Lux. Ahh obsessed and did you guys see the art?! 🫠🫠🫠🫠
Y’all are not ready for Johnny! This man is the definition of unhinged, but with every chapter you love him even more. He’s a little psycho but oh well
JOHNNY!!!! The most unhinged MMC, so of course this was going to be the most unhinged book, it was only fitting! I had such an amazing time being inside my favorite psychos head 😏 If you're into smut, dark humor, and horror, then this is a MUST READ!
I loved it! Johnny is my favorite depraved & unhinged mmc and i cannot get enough of him, so getting his backstory was incredible. I felt all the feels. Nova absolutely killed it!
This was the dark and depraved backstory of Johnny. He was locked away after committing a heinous crime, but he gets away with anything in Wellard Asylum and nobody questions him.
We soon meet Gabriel, who is the total opposite of Johnny. While Johnny was bloodthirsty, Gabriel was timid and shy. He was scared of everything, but not Johnny.
Unfortunately I knew this wouldn’t end well since we met Johnny in the Cirque, but I was still shocked by how everything played out. Definitely a dark and spooky read but great if you’re looking for more of Johnny!
🩸 MM 💉 Dub-con 🩸 Corruption ARC 💉 Degradation 🩸 Asylum 💉 Mutilation 🩸 Duel POV 💉 Shared world
Holy freaking crap Johnny!!! This book was absolutely amazing Johnny is just as unhinged as he’s always been but seeing where it all freaking started wow!! The intensity of this story was one of pure and utter chaos and I was so living for it!!! I do not normally read MM, but I absolutely had to read Johnny and I’m so glad I did because this was exactly what I needed. Johnny has always been Nova unhinged MMC and seeing his beginning and where he came from was one of the most interesting reads ever!!! I actually felt sad and upset for how this book ended, this broken unhinged man deserved so much better then and received from someone he cared about!!! I laughed, cried, had an anxiety attack and bounced up and down so much while reading this I may need a visit to Wellard Asylum myself!!
So, as I finished this book, I was left with the impression that there was a continuing story that would evolve...so I checked other reviews. Apparently, this served as a prequel of sorts for an already published book. The MMC here, Johnny, is given a bit of a villain origin story and now I'm curious about the other book.
Johnny is our main character. Most of the chapters are in his POV except for maybe 2, which are glimpses into the psyche of Gabriel. In a way, I think it was a relief to have that other POV because it took away a bit of Gabriel's victim hood and had the reader see these "atrocities" being performed on him as semi-consensual. I honestly would have loved to have seen more of his own chapters...simply out of curiosity for his backstory and how he came to be in Wellard Asylum.
Johnny is both, complex in his layers of psychosis and narcissism, and simplistic in his predatory behavior... something we have all heard about or gleamed in other stories and real life crime documentaries. He builds his image up as the center of his own universe, lacking any sort of empathy or emotion towards those around him. Everyone is simply background or a tool for his personal use...and Gabriel is no exception.
The story and the detailed descriptions of the other patients, paint a dark and cold environment. I really enjoyed this particular aspect of Wellard Asylum. Each author and book has contributed to a very eerie portrait of the building and it's occupants and it really is such a treat to see it all come together to form a bigger picture.
There are definitely a ton of "spicy" scenes throughout the book. They are never really sweet or emotional or loving but they nonetheless turn up the heat. As I said previously, it ended up being closer to dub-con and wasn't difficult to imagine that both characters ringed enjoyment from their escapades.
Horror erotica HEA for maybe one character? 😅😬 Insane asylum shared world series Patient x patient, patient x Dr Possessive AF MMC Touch him and ☠️ Degradation Masked MMC
Darkness level 🌑 Spice rating 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Quotes:
Johnny :
Turns out, he's exactly the kind of broken I like-soft-spoken, compliant, medicated just enough to dull the fight, but not enough to dull the need. The kind of boy who does what he's told because he's scared of what happens if he doesn't. Easy to bend. Easier to break.
He's the type that says "no" like he wants you to ignore it. And I will. Every fucking time.
I'm the monster they check under their beds for. The lunatic they whisper about when the meds kick in. I'm the reason they don't sleep.
And when I want something? There's not a single fuck in this asylum, in this world, that can stop me.
Gabriel -
I'm not stupid. I know what he's doing to me. What he's turning me into. I know it every time I wake up hard from a dream I can't admit to having. Every time I catch myself looking for him.
I still flinch when I see him. But it's different now. Less like fear. More like... readiness. Like my body is standing at attention before my brain can even catch up.
He doesn't treat me like a person. Not really. I'm a thing to him. A toy. A puppet. His words, not mine, but when he touches me? I feel real. Not safe. Not whole.
If you’re looking for the most depraved filthy and messed up horror erotica with mm and Johnny cutter? YEAH NOVA KANE DELIVERED WITH HIS PREQUEL PART OF THE SHARED WELLARD ASYLUM UNIVERSE

He UNALIVES for him that finally opens up Gabriel’s darkness to him. Johnny wants to call you his cum puppet? You better say thank you.
Gabriel is running away from Johnny is the beginning shameful with his thoughts but when he sees how feral Johnny is for him and what he’ll do for him he gives in. It’s bi awakening at its hottest.
BACK TO JOHNNY THO WHEN I TELL YOU CHEESEBURGERS THATS THE KEYWORD YOULL NEVER SEE THEM THE SAME WAY NOW. Does that make me messed up in the head ? Yes for Johnny I’m not sorry
“But you? You bring me meat. You bring me silence. You bring me that desperate little whimper when I press too deep.”
THERE IS NO OTHER MMC LIKE JOHNNY PLS DEAR LORD I CANT WITH HIM SASSY FERAL ANS UNHINGED * insersts cat meme with a paw to its face giggling. * muahaha
There’s something so dark and twisted about their connection you can’t help but get drawn in by Johnnys obsession and mind. We get to seek to his mind and how he is. There is no cure as to why he is the way he is. He just is. And it makes you more drawn to him. He doesn’t care there’s no grounds as to why he unalives there’s no psycho bs behind it just plain curiosity like he says.
He’s all in for Gabriel and trains his mutt to be his perfect toy
“Gabriel is the only sound I care about. Even when he’s not here. Even when he’s not making any noise at all.”
THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE BY ANY MEANS SO PLEASE CHECK YOUR TW BECAUSE IM NOT LIABLE FOR YOUR CRASHOUT BUT IF LOVE THAT DEPRAVES SH*t and want to read about a pitch black unhinged character that wears a clown mask rawdogs you with another patient because your his puppet and toy then please have fun and welcome to wellard asylum.
When you get to the horror the gore the blood and depravity please be warned it tickled my brain & I gasped because think of the goriest body horror movie when you touch what belongs to Johnny oh you’re not leaving alive. Everything was blended so perfectly a hole is a hole to Johnny please and thanks
“I’m nothing but violence, filth and vengeance. I don’t warn. I take.”

Meet Johnny (from the book "Cirque Du Désir” where I first fell in love with him, oh my Lord, this man is so hawt) the clinically insane monster who set his twisted intentions on a patient. He's filthy in the best way, his charming personality dripping with an allure that is laced with poison before he digs his fangs into you like a snake. He won't let go either, not until he gets what he wants. Egoistic, mesmeric, and savage. Johnny gets away with so much even locked up in the Asylum, messing with anyone, the workers, and the patients.
Next is our meek, timid, and shy Gabriel. All he wants is to be left alone for the days to go by without being noticed. He does his best to keep out of the spotlight, but much to his dismay, he's noticed by the big bad wolf; Johnny. What's he to do when he can no longer hide? He earns Johnny's protection, though, with this journal accompanying him. The man intimidates as well as intrigues him.
This is part of the Wellard Aslyum Series - humming with suffocation, violent, and disturbing! A dark erotic horror, not really a romance, but extremely dark. Hence, please check your triggers! The spice is so good, brimming with fire! And I loved every moment of it. Johnny You can feel the aura of the place, the screams echoing of the past and the future nightmare it promises. Atrocity is unsettling and addictive! Very dark, messed up, unhinged in the most f*cking beautiful way. The ending is so well done, such a perfectly woven plot to seamlessly move onto the "Cirque Du Desir" stories when Johnny meets Lux. Wow. Especially for those who haven't read them yet.
Johnny’s back baby but we head back to the beginning for his origin story and let me tell you NOVA KANE did not stutter. She gave us a dark, deranged MM horror romance that is oh so hot & delicious. Did I expect anything less? No.
Nova delivers the Johnny we all know and love coming into his own. Using his power and dominance to find an obedient little mutt for pleasure, for degradation for a grand scheme. And of course as usual with Johnny we get a plot twist, we get a filthy mouth, we get gore and obsession. It’s about ownership and possession, CONTROL.
ᴛᴇɴ ᴏᴜᴛᴛᴀ ᴛᴇɴ. ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ᴅᴇꜱᴇᴄʀᴀᴛᴇ ᴀɢᴀɪɴ.
I binged this read overnight, staying up til 3am because I just couldn’t stop flipping the pages. My only sustenance was Hot Cheetos and sweet tea, but baby was it worth it. My facial expressions ever changing and the heat of this book was so perfect. I mean who doesn’t love some good degradation?!
➢ ᠻⅈꪀꪖꪶ 𝕥ꫝꪮꪊᧁꫝ𝕥𝘴: As always miss ma’am Nova delivers. I got a spicy MM asylum romance and Johnny was front and center. Need I say more, this book MUST be on your TBR. Will you dive into the deranged darkness with me, Puppet?
🤡🩸But real crazy? Real crazy is calm. Real crazy is polite. Patient. Thoughtful. It just smiles😈
"I'm the monster they check under their beds for. The lunatic they whisper about when the meds kick in. I'm the reason they don't sleep."
"I'm not sick. I'm curious. That's all. You should be thanking me. At least I'm honest about it."
"I imagine putting it on and becoming something else--no, not something. Someone I've always been underneath. Someone I've just been too polite to let out."
"The mask stares back. Me, but not me. Me if I never held back. Me if they never tried to cage me."
"This place tried to bury me. But monsters don't rot. We claw. We bite. We burn the whole ward down and take what's ours on the way out."
"But real crazy? Real crazy is calm. Real crazy is polite. Patient. Thoughtful. And it never, ever screams. It just smiles. Of course that man's me. Who the f*** else would it be?"
WOW! This was a very dark horror erotica book. This has all the TWs and no HEA. I have been waiting to read Johnny's prequel story and this was everything! Just from his prologue in the beginning, I knew this would he a wild and unhinged ride.
We get to see how Johnny ended up in Wellward Asylum. What his stay was like. The shenanigans he got up to there. And how he owned a puppet he liked to call mutt. There wasn't much back story on Gabriel, so I didn't expect this relationship to last. Sadly, Gabe wasn't so trustworthy, and their time was cut short ☠️🩸.
While their relationship was toxic, you could tell Johnny had some sort of feelings for him. The spicy scenes in this were depraved, filthy, and dirty 🔥🔥🥵🥵. Clearly, something is very wrong with me since I love Johnny and how he is 😂😂. His inner monologue had me cackling so loud 😅. The ending where he met Lux was everything! I loved seeing that moment come. I'm here for any story Johnny is in. 🍔☠️🩸🖤🔪🎭🤡. Bring on the circus 🎪.
Oh Johnny, my favorite type of psycho 🫠🔥 I just love getting inside his head and seeing the world from his perspective. Reading this felt like having Johnny whisper right into my ear and I loved it. And like all Nova’s books, this one gripped me from the very first sentence and I couldn’t put this book down.
This book made me laugh out loud so many times! I love Johnny’s internal monologue, especially the way he kept describing the other patients, and how he noticed all the little things and details. And the circus references!
Johnny calling Gabriel Mutt & Puppet 🫠🔥 And the praise mixed with degradation was amazing! Loved getting a few chapters from Gabriel’s POV. Those really helped to show what he thought about what was going on and how much he actually liked everything. And the parts with Ziggy made me even more excited to read Sour!
The ending was perfect! I always wondered how Johnny ended up in Cirque du Désir.
Ten outta ten, would recommend. Please check the TW/CW before reading! This book is DARK and your mental health matters. Like Johnny said, “This ain’t romance, and I ain’t here to make it pretty.”
“They think crazy is wild eyes and drool. Screaming at walls. Shitting your pants in a corner. But real crazy? Real crazy is calm.” “Nothing gets my cock harder than someone pretending they don’t want it, especially when I can see the want in their fucking eyes.” “What’s this one called? Daddy Issues? Worship Me? Or just Please, Johnny, Break Me?” “This shit is like a daycare for demons. Only somehow less fucking supervised.” “You feel that? That’s not love. That’s ownership. That’s what it means to be mine.”
Thank you Nova for letting me both beta & ARC read this book 🖤 Beta & ARC reading didn’t affect my opinion of the book and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.
Okay, so… Atrocity is basically Johnny Cutter’s villain origin story and a prelude to the Cirque Du Désir world — specifically the setup for how he eventually meets Lux. I haven’t read that series yet, but now I’m low-key feeling like I committed a crime by starting with this one. Too late. Damage done. And honestly? No regrets.
This novella is short — around 190 pages — but it still took me two days because the writing style tripped me up more than once. The prose feels intentionally unhinged, but there were moments that read a little stiff or oddly structured. Not necessarily bad, just… off. Almost like the narration itself is glitching right alongside Johnny’s mind.
The heart of this book is Johnny — charismatic, deranged, hilarious in the worst possible way — and the violence is not romanticized, softened, or beautified. When he turns his attention to Gabriel… yeah. I wasn’t prepared. At all. The shift from obsession to what it became is unsettling in a way that lingers long after the page turns.
This is erotic horror, not romance. There’s no softness waiting around the corner. No moral redemption arc tucked under the bed. Just Johnny being Johnny — a monster who knows he’s a monster and enjoys the shape of his own teeth.
And then that ending. That little moment. Lux. Like a door cracking open into something bigger and darker.
Even without the Cirque Du Désir context, the final scene lands; you can feel the shift in Johnny’s trajectory. But if anything, it made me more curious about that series, because this man is clearly just getting started.
Overall? Dark, depraved, bizarrely funny, and very much not for the faint-hearted. A solid, chaotic 4-star ride.
