Matkaratsastukseen osallistuva Becky saa tahtomattaan parikseen kokemattoman Taran. Becky kihisee mustasukkaisuudesta, sillä poikaystävä Sam on liiankin innokas auttamaan kaunista Taraa välietapeilla. Mutta pian vuoristovaelluksesta on leikki kaukana, kun Tara ja hänen vastapelurinsa vetävät Beckyn mukaan totiseen kamppailuun vaaroista välittämättä. Armottomassa kisassa maksumiehiksi joutuvat hevoset, joiden pelastaminen jää Beckyn harteille.
A fun blast from my past (gee, that makes me sound old, lol!) that I actually still enjoyed which has been a feat so far in this rereading old faves binge!
Endurance riding is rare in fiction, and the way it’s shown here is so fun and real yet still allows the story and Becky’s character growth to shine in being part of the plot but not overbearing in any way. The added intrigue of what Tara is mixed up in adds a bit of suspense to the story as Becky is sucked in against her will.
The tension and jealousy from Becky over Rob annoyed me when I was younger, but it didn’t this time—probably because I’ve read enough YA by now to be used to it by now, lol, plus reading so much YA has actually shown me that this was written really well and realistically. Not to mention Becky does grow and change for the better because of it which also made me less annoyed by it.
There is a bit of head hopping where it shouldn’t be, but it’s actually written well so it feels natural rather than jarring, which was nice.
Rereading this book has made me want to read the whole series which I never had a chance to when I was younger, so we’ll see when I get to those in the future!
