Juniper Bean has big plans for her writing career. Swoony kisses, sigh-inducing happily ever afters—she’s going to write them all.
There’s just one she can’t seem to stop killing off her main characters.
After accepting that a genre change is in order, Juniper sets out to do some research. What’s the best way to carry a dead body? How exactly does one pick a lock? Juniper is going to find out—with the unwilling help of her new roommate, Aiden.
But Juniper’s plans go haywire when she stumbles across an actual, real-life dead body—and before she knows it, she and Aiden are thrust into the middle of a murder mystery that seems suspiciously tied to Juniper’s past.
Who killed the girl in the woods? Can Juniper ever get the hang of mystery writing? And, perhaps the biggest question of Why the heck does Aiden look so good in a tweed jacket?
This is a special edition with annotations, bonus content, and art!
This was a re-read.. or is it more like a re-listen when it is an audio book? Either way, it's been a year since I read this book and I still love it. I needed a cozy mystery for the month of October and I knew this one would be perfect to revisit and I am glad that I did. Juniper is possibly one of my favorite Female Lead Characters. It felt like revisiting an old friend.
This book. Gah, you guys, this is the fourth time I’ve read this amazing story and the bonus content of the special edition was amazing! Once again, I laughed so hard, I cried, the swooning was real, and the mystery is great—ALL the feels. The balance between the laughter, the romance, the mystery, the depth, and the fantastic character growth is utter perfection.
TW: Obviously, Murder (Not Graphic), Alcoholic Mother & Poverty (Past), Sexual Assault of a Side Character (Past, No Details)
I've read this before - unknowingly. Meaning only that when I borrowed the book, because it was a special edition, it didn't pop up as having been read before. It's a clean love story/murder mystery/finding out who you are book. While I DID appreciate an insight into the author's thought process, it was hard to follow sometimes. I found myself going back into the chapter to see if I could figure out what the author was commenting on. More than once I found myself skipping the footnotes because I just didn't want to search for the almost hidden signal at the end of a sentence or paragraph telling me that there was a footnote attached to that thought.
This is my second time reading this book, and I just love it so much. Juniper is so, so lovely. One reason I love her is that she is herself, though not unapologetically so. She struggled with self doubt and how others perceive here, but she pushes through it.
I loved Aiden’s character too. I like that he’s multi-dimensional, someone that takes the time to really think about his feelings. I never knew a murder mystery could be so swoony 😍
This was a fun read because she is writing a murder mystery so it’s cool to see how she wants to act out certain scenes while also solving a real case. I wish her murder mystery was talked about more throughout the end because I love this plot
