Love On Repeat

Rate this book
Brooklyn, 1995.

Neko Marie Love is a mother, a teacher, and an up-and-coming artist. She’s got big dreams and an even bigger heart, but behind closed doors, her life isn't all it seems. Her fiancé, NBA player Tone Wilson, gives her the image, the sparkle, the “ideal” of having it all. Sometimes, life shows you that some things are just a facade. Love with Tone is starting to feel more like survival. Cold stares. Lonely nights. Beautiful lies.

Then, there’s Legend “Black” DePriest—her first love, her true love. The one who knew her before the world told her who to be. Legend’s a fighter in and out of the ring, with Brooklyn grit and his eyes and heart still set on Neko.

They never got closure. Just time, distance, and a love that never fully vacated. Now that Legend is back, the past is heavy, and Neko’s future hangs in the balance. With secrets that cut deep and choices that don’t come easy, she has to decide what kind of life—and what kind of love—she’s willing to fight for.

Love on Repeat is a raw, soulful, 90s love story rooted in Brooklyn. It’s about the kind of love that never leaves you. Friendship, family, grief, healing, and second chances all unfold on these pages, and finally, so does finding your voice when the world tries to silence it.

A 90’s love like no other! This was a cute love story with the perfect mix of drama to keep you invested. Neko had a lot going on in her life a cheating fiancé, trying to make it as an artist, raising her daughter, and harboring a secret that weighed on her heavy. On the outside looking in it seemed like she had it made but those who know the real Neko understand that everything that glitters ain’t gold.

Just when Neko starts second guessing her relationship and everything else in her life Legend “Black” DePriest returns to Brooklyn shaking up her world even more. How could she marry Tone when her heart still belonged to someone else and neither of them got closure? Not to mention the secret she’s been keeping . . .

I loved the secondary characters Mecca and Chaki the most their energy helped bring life to the story. Tasha and her sister Keisha kept the drama going it’s a lot that comes with these two! (sips tea) But all of the characters felt authentic and were funny at times. I loved Neko and Legend’s chemistry but I was over the back and forth with them mainly Neko. Overall, this was a solid read from the constant confrontations, Neko finding herself, her and Legend’s bond, and the reveal of one secret after another.

Love on Repeat was full of secrets, drama, and love. I enjoyed Nelko and Legends story and the journey it took us to get there. Nelko was dealing with a lot and I felt like she handled it very well, could she she have handled differently? Of course but I felt like the author wrote her perfectly. I definitely recommend this book it was a 4.5/5 for me.

well written 4.5

The setting is in 1990 and the author really made you feel like you are back in the 90’s. I didn’t want this to end. I do wish there was a six month to one year epilogue to see how Neko and Legend were doing after everything. Definitely will be reading more from this author

Love on Repeat hums with old-school soul...timeless, textured, and emotionally messy in a way that feels true to life.

At the center is Neko Marie Love: educator by day, creative spirit by nature, single mom by reality, and woman carrying more weight than anyone realizes. From the outside, her world looks polished: ring, routine, reputation...but underneath, she’s suffocating. Comfort doesn’t always equal safety, and security doesn’t guarantee joy. Watching her navigate motherhood, ambition, and unspoken truths felt painfully familiar.

Enter Legend “Black” DePriest, history wrapped in muscle memory and unresolved emotion. His reappearance cracks open everything Neko’s been trying to keep neatly contained. Their connection is undeniable, heavy with glances, pauses, and the kind of tension that doesn’t need touching to feel intimate. When they share space, the air changes. Period. 🖤

The supporting cast added real flavor. Mecca and Chaki brought depth and heart, while a few side personalities stirred the pot just enough to keep things spicy ☕. The sports angle...gritty gyms, discipline, hunger- gave the narrative a grounded edge that worked well with the era. And that 90s setting? Chef’s kiss. It carried rhythm, nostalgia, and emotional weight without trying too hard.

Where the story slightly lost me was in the emotional pacing. Some moments that should’ve landed harder felt muted, and the constant push-pull...especially from Neko, started to drag. Growth was happening, but slower than necessary. By the final chapter, I was craving closure. A glimpse forward. A “where are they now?” moment to fully seal the journey. Without it, the ending felt more paused than finished.

Still, this was a solid, heartfelt read...layered, dramatic, and rooted in real choices real women face. Love on Repeat reminds us that having it all doesn’t mean having what you need, and sometimes the hardest relationship to navigate is the one with yourself.

Not flawless, but meaningful. And definitely worth the ride. 🎶📖

Set in 1990s Brooklyn, Love on Repeat delivers a nostalgic, soulful love story that feels both cinematic and intimate. Neko Marie Love is a teacher, mother, and artist balancing her public image with private pain, caught between the comfort of what looks perfect and the pull of what feels real. Her fiancé, Tone Wilson, gives her status and sparkle—but not peace. And then there’s Legend “Black” DePriest, the one who’s always seen her beyond the surface.

This story has everything: a layered plot, real emotions, strong family bonds, and characters that feel alive. The sports element—boxing and basketball—added grit and realism, while the 90s backdrop brought the perfect mix of nostalgia and rhythm.

The chemistry between Neko and Legend leapt off the page; you could feel their connection in every word. I also really enjoyed Chaki—his storyline was one I saw coming but still hit hard.

The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wanted an epilogue. I needed to know how everyone was doing six months or a year later. That final glimpse would’ve made this story feel complete.

Enjoyed It

This book was a alot but good. It took me back but different from what I was used to reading and that's what kept me going. It had real life situations many people can relate to and often times I wondered where my friends at like them. The storyline was realistic and made me think back alot. I can’t wait to read more of her work.

Nostalgia

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, and this book gave me all the feels of that memory. The friendships that withstand the test of time drama, of course, mess.
Patience and love really does win sometimes.
