Crushing on My Forbidden Neighbor: A Sweet Small-Town Brother's Best Friend Romance

Rate this book
I adopted a rescue dog, sprained my ankle, and now the grumpy country star next door is helping me walk her.

Jack Harper is back home, still famous and nothing like my childhood crush. He’s rude, dismissive, and clearly thinks I’m just another fan.

He doesn’t recognize me. Not the girl next door, his best friend’s little sister, or the girl who used to scribble his name in her diary.

I’m not twelve anymore. But that doesn't stop me from blushing when Jack walks my dog, helps plan my fundraiser, and lingers on my porch like he finally sees me.

Now he’s writing songs that sound like he's read my mind... or my diary.

I let myself fall for him, hard.

If my brother finds out, everything will go up in flames.

But when he looks at me like that, it just might be worth it.

Lucy's Song

Bad boy country singer, Jack Harper is burned out. His LA lifestyle has left him hollow. He tells his agent he is taking a month off and going back home to Spruce Valley, Washington. He returns to his mother's home. He had left after his father's death. He couldn't face all the reminders. He thought chasing his music dreams would fill that void. He finally faced the fact that after all the touring and only superficial relationships, the void was only bigger. Coming home brought him back to what was important: his family, community, and surprisingly the girl next door, Lucy Martin, little sister of his best friend,Ben. He stumbled upon Lucy's diary and reads about himself, how she saw someone he truly wanted to be. It inspired many new songs, but one was just hers. About the girl who watch from the stairs and wanted to be seen. She also saw his sadness more clearly than anyone else. He finally admitted to himself that he was in love with her. Ben wasn't too happy about that, but Jack assured him he wouldn't hurt her. He didn't, but his agent did. She convinced Lucy that he always did this, found a girl to write songs about, then moved on. She said he was leaving on tour in a few days and he wasn't going to be here for her library fundraiser. Lucy panicked because he was the big draw. If he didn't show, it would be a disaster. Jack kept texting her but she wouldn't answer. Ben knew he had fired his agent and told her he was staying here. But all he told Lucy was she should get the story from Jack. At the time he was supposed to perform, he was still a no show. Lucy went to the mic to announce he was not coming, assuming he was already in LA. But then he walked up to the stage and played several hits, then announced he had some new ones. He sang her song and kept his eyes on her. The lyrics made it clear that he was in love with her. Ben and Jack turned Jack's old barn into a recording studio. Jack made a new album, got a new manager and went on tour. Lucy was with him. At one concert he called her up on stage as the woman who changed his life. This is a story of finding the one who sees you, stays with you, and makes you want to be better. I really loved this book.

What a fantastic story about Jack Harper and Lucy Martin. Jack a rock star and Lucy a librarian. This story starts with Jack after performing and not being able to write any new music drained from performing and always ending up empty so he comes home to find himself again. Ben is Lucy’s brother and best friend to Jack from the past. This story gets your attention right from the start as Lucy and Jack meet again for the first time. Ben throws them together planning for the library fundraiser and he suggests that Jack perform to bring in more people. The tension builds between Jack and Lucy as they work together. Ben and Jack come up with an idea and work together toward completion. Jacks manager causes a lot of trouble and Jack finds a way to correct the problem it caused. The way this story ends is fantastic and the things that happened to get there felt so good. This story is well planned and written. I would recommend it to anyone.

“Crushing on My Forbidden Neighbor” by Tessa A. Quinn

-A story of returning home to find inspiration and so much more. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

Lucy, a quiet introvert librarian, never stopped seeing the real Jack beneath the fame. When her childhood crush returns as a country star, sparks and frustrations fly. An adopted dog and tender moments push them past their differences.

A sweet romance about finding yourself, being truly seen, and coming home. A book that resonates with a warm glow in the readers heart.❤️

MC: Jack Harper and Lucy Martin, First person dual POV

Plain and simple, I loved this book. The writing was so well done that a lot of times I felt what the characters were feeling; heart racing, stillness, aha moments. Lucy observed Jack in silence and saw beyond what everyone else saw. When Jack finally slowed down and embraced stillness he was able to find himself. I can go on an on but will just say - put this on your Read Now list.

I read an ARC copy of the book and this is my honest review.

Being Seen

This is such a sweet story of feeling invisible but finally being seen for who you truly are. Lucy is the quiet younger sister of Jack's best friend, Ben. The famous singer comes home for a break and truly finds himself and his music again. Lucy is the perfect remedy for Jack's life. The small town dynamics are hysterical, as are all the family chaos. It's a heartwarming story through and through with a great ending.

This book was brilliant! I loved the slow, laid back feel of finding home and who you are. Jack and Lucy are opposites in many ways but have big hearts full of love. Each feeling broken in different ways, they just may find that home and healing are a person, not a place.

Quick Easy Read

Enjoyed this book as it was quick and easy to read. I’m not much of a romance novel person but this one was sweet and not too romantic ;)
