Okay first of all, thank you so much for the ARC !!

Now about the book, it was super entertaining really. I was such a fun and easy read!
But it was maybe too easy of a read 😅 I feel like the romance kinda happened out of no where, like their feelings just popped up. And I know it’s a dark comedy romance but I feel like it was more a romantic comedy with sensitive topics (i guess that’s very subjective). I also feel like some moments/ dialogues were just there because that’s what booktok likes..

Apart from that, as I said, it was fun to read and I really liked both MCs !

ARC Review

Thank you to Caitlin and the team for the opportunity to receive the ARC. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! A great balance of dark romance, rom-com, and politics. I’ve never read a book like this and I think expanding political topics into this genre was a great idea.

Love a man who is obsessed with his woman and knows what he wants. It was great to see Daphne’s character development and how she was able to come out of her shell throughout the book.

Looking forward to the next one!

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Oh my gosh! This book had me laughing from the start, literally! I was laughing during the trigger warnings. This book was absolutely incredible. I absolutely love Tristain, he can do absolutely no wrong. I love how he would do anything for Daphne. The amount of things that I highlighted throughout this book, you would think it would be easier to just highlight the whole book. I read this book in one sitting as I wasn’t ready to put this book down. I will be recommending this book to all my friends because I know they will all love it as much as I have. I will definitely be buying a physical copy to put on myself because I NEED it

🌶️🌶️🌶️

Can I please read this again for the first time, even though I just finished it?! 😩

Where to start? Blood Red is a dark romcom intertwined within a political storyline, with a side of delicious stalking from our masked MMC. We follow Daphne, the president’s daughter & Tristan our Pepsi and dog loving MMC.

I won’t spoil anything, but this book was f*cking brilliant and you should add it to your tbr immediately! 👏🏼

Daphne was such a fun, emotionally intelligent & gorgeous FMC, but TRISTAN! He is now one of my favourite MMC’s, ever! That man, holy shit. He has every right to wear his ‘Better than a book boyfriend’ shirt! 😍

A huge thank you to The Berry Agency & Caitlin for the gifted copy 🫶🏼

Tristan our MMC is planning to stop a current healthcare bill that seeks to ruin millions lives. His plan ultimately involves kidnapping the daughter of the president.

Daphne our FMC is suffering in her own silence Being born into a family that shows no concern or love for her. She is a means to an end for her family's political gain.

I absolutely loved this read! The banter between both these characters I really enjoyed.

This read hooked me from the very beginning!

I was pleasantly surprised by the political mix in the storyline. It flowed really well and didn't overpower with everything else going on, which I was worried about in starting this read.

It was written very well and the plot had me intrigued to the end.

Whilst Tristan had other motives from the beginning, he always maintained Daphne's safety and protection. Quite the softy under the mask. Daphne did not shy away from Tristan's threats. Both creating a give and take which solidified their connection from the beginning.

Can't wait to see more from this Author in the future. Thoroughly enjoy and would definitely would recommend!

ARC review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Blood Red is a political thriller wrapped in dark romance, obsession, and morally gray chaos and I devoured every delicious page.

Daphne Fox is not your typical First Daughter. She’s sharp, angry, and painfully aware that her entire life has been a pawn in her father’s political chess game. So when a masked vigilante kidnaps her and offers her a chance to strike back, it feels less like a nightmare and more like a dangerous invitation. And oh boy, does she take it.

Tristan Sinclair is the definition of morally gray: a man willing to spill blood to stop a bill that could destroy millions of lives. He’s ruthless, focused, and absolutely not supposed to fall for the woman he abducted. But Daphne’s fire, intelligence, and refusal to be controlled get under his skin in the best and worst way. Their dynamic is intense equal parts manipulation, tension, and reluctant trust and the chemistry is sizzling.

What really hooked me was the constant ethical tug-of-war. Tristan plotting to kill the President while falling for his daughter? Daphne learning how far she’ll go for freedom? Add in an online stalker and layers of political corruption, and you’ve got a story that feels like a dark, high-stakes game of chess where every move costs blood.

This book thrives on power plays, obsession, betrayal, and forbidden attraction, and it doesn’t shy away from morally messy choices. If you love dark romance with political intrigue, anti-hero MMCs, and an FMC who refuses to stay a pawn, Blood Red is absolutely worth the read.

It’s intense, twisted, and addictive like watching a slow-motion train wreck you can’t look away from but secretly cheering for. 🩸🖤

From the start, the tension is there and it doesn’t let up. The push and pull between Daphne and Tristan carries the story in the best way. Their banter actually lands, and the chemistry feels natural instead of forced. Tristan brings that dangerous energy without feeling one-note, and Daphne holds her own the entire time which makes their dynamic even better.

What really worked for me was how fast everything moved without feeling empty. There’s action, there’s drama, there’s just enough chaos to keep things interesting, but it never lost my attention. I kept thinking I’d stop after one more chapter and that never happened.

It leans into being a little unhinged at times, but that’s part of the appeal. It knows exactly what it is and doesn’t try to tone itself down.

This was one of those reads that’s just fun from beginning to end.

Easy five stars. 🌟

Omg, great and a funny book I just read! I honestly have so many good things to say about it. It was funny, and the plot was solid. I loved the FMC.. Daphne was hilarious, and the way she was falling for him without even seeing his face (because of the mask) was everything. I loved it!

Tristan’s care for Daphne was absolutely adorable. HE MADE HER HER DREAM LIBRARY!! Like, what?! I need one. The way he kept buying books for her each time just melted me.

Overall, such a fun and entertaining read. Definitely recommend!

Ok so super intense book. It was a combination of a political thriller(yay) and a cutesy romance(whoo) and a dark romance(?) too. What I mean to say is this book was a lot and I loved every single second. The author did an AMAZING job combining the genres in a way they all fit together. I didn't think it'd work but it did. Daphne and Tristan are absolutely perfect for each other. Even if their relationship started off bumpy. And Tristan having heterochromia? Just made him a thousand times hotter 🥵🥵 so good and a must read if anyones looking for something a little different.

Butcher & Blackbird meets Scandal (definitely some Shonda-level drama in this one, and the politicking is brutal and frequently terrible). I enjoyed Daphne and Tristan as characters, and Tristan was really interesting because yes, he's obviously a dark dude/serial killer/stalks Daphne but then he also wants everyone to have healthcare and runs a dog shelter. Complex guy.

4.25 for me.
This book in some ways was cathartic for me, because while I and the author do not condone these actions in the real world, it was so nice with everything going on in the USA to see some politicians who are doing shady shit actually get their comeuppance. I think the commentary on the state of things was perfect for the Dark romance genre and made a very enjoyable as well when it came to the romance between Daphanie and Tristin. Their romance was so fun to read especially with Tristin being all about Daphanie and all the small and big things to take care of her and show her how much he cared about her and her passions. But it wasn't just big or small gestures that showed he cared about her, but they were things actually tailored to who she was and loved. He took the time to get to know her and wanted to show her every way he could that he loved and supported her.

With Daphanie growing up privilege you would think she had it all and it was the perfect life especially with how they are portrayed in the media for her father's political career. But people need to remember that behind closed doors is always a different story. You have an overly critical mother, a narcissistic father neither of whom care about her but also say and do really heart-breaking things when it comes to her and her safety. Like their comments on her sexual assault and what they want her to do made me want to charge in there and give them a piece of my mind violently. So shitty situation and in Daphanie is in a way trapped and limited in her options bc of her privilege so she is filled with a lot of justifiable anger and resentment but she has managed to carve out a space that is all hers with her booktok account and as a person when she is not forced to participate in the political minefield her family has her in she is fun and sassy and those moments are usually with Tristin who gives her the space to just be her nothing more.

Overall, enjoyed the cathartic political commentary and a morally grey man willing to not only stand up for his beliefs but also stand up for the woman he is obsessed with and cares about. It looks like this is a start of a series and I am definitely interested in the next book.

----
This book is about Daphnie who is the First Daughter and is tired of being a political pawn for her father and just wants to be free. But when a masked man kidnaps her and needs her help bringing down the corrupt politicians who are trying to pass a disastrous health care bill that will ruin millions of lives. All he needs is information that only she can provide and she agrees. But as they spend more time together, brings out Daphanie's fire to where she stops being a pawn in his mission and instead becomes an obsession of his. But he is not the only one obsessed with Daphanie. But while his obsession is one of desire her online stalker has put a target on her putting her life at risk. So now they are forced into an alliance where lies are becoming blurred, and loyalties are being tested especially when it comes to the mission where Tristan may have to decide between saving millions of lives or the saving the life of the one woman, he was never supposed to fall for.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read an early copy of this book ahead of its release on 28 April.

I had a really fun time with Blood Red. It opens with a strong, gripping premise that immediately hooked me, blending political thriller, romcom and dark romance elements. We follow Daphne Fox, the President’s daughter, whose life is already shaped by manipulation and political games until she is kidnapped by Tristan Sinclair, our morally grey male lead.

Tristan’s motivations add an interesting layer to the story. He is trying to stop a healthcare bill that would harm millions, and his methods are, to put it mildly, extreme. What follows is a surprisingly humorous and chaotic kind of kill list narrative that reminded me of the tone in Butcher and Blackbird. The mix of dark subject matter with comedy really worked for me, especially in the first half, which I absolutely devoured.

The dynamic between Daphne and Tristan is strongest early on. There is tension, mystery and a sharp edge to their interactions that keeps things engaging. Daphne’s partial awareness of what is going on around her adds to the intrigue, and their banter balances the darker elements nicely.

For me, the second half did not land quite as well. I still enjoyed it, but the romance leaned into a much softer and more sentimental direction than I was expecting. Once their relationship became more established, it lost some of the tension and bite that made the first half so compelling. The humour also felt less prominent, which slightly reduced the overall impact.

That said, this is still a very entertaining read, particularly if you enjoy genre blends and morally complex characters. It is also the first book in a trilogy, and Tristan’s siblings sound especially interesting, so I am curious to see where the series goes next.

If you are looking for a dark, slightly chaotic romantic thriller with political stakes and a touch of humour, Blood Red is well worth picking up.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the advance eARC copy 💗 This book was right up my alley! A delicious mix of murders, stalking, crimes, spice and vigilante justice.

I'm gonna start with the negatives first because they're not really a big deal but significant enough. 🙏 This needs one more round of editing. There are a few typos and grammatical errors that I can overlook. But chapter 36 was in Tristan's POV and 70% in, it suddenly changes to Daphne's POV literally mid-paragraph with no indication of a POV switch. And 3 pages later, again mid-paragraph, switches back to Tristan's POV. 🤨 This chapter definitely needs to be re-edited.

Other than chapter 36, the rest of the book was written well 💗 I loved the humour - it was witty and fun and made the characters more relatable. I found Daphne's character easy to relate to, as someone who desperately wants to get their parents' approval even if they've done her wrong. ☹️ Seeing her learn to value herself and set her boundaries was refreshing.

I loved Tristan, he lowkey reminded me of Josh from Lights Out. Also, stalking/murdering tendencies aside, he's the perfect ideal boyfriend. 😭 He built Daphne her own library, filled it up with books from her Wishlist, complete with a rolling wooden ladder. WHERE CAN I FIND A MAN LIKE THIS???

I liked that there was a legitimate reason behind the kidnapping and murders. The vigilante justice was strong in this one and highlights the ugly sides of politicians that the public often don't see or are happy to ignore. 🙏 I'm not American but we've all heard about the horrible healthcare system and the politicians lining their pockets over there. This book definitely had an agenda and I'm here for it.

All in all, a very solid dark romance. 🩶 I really enjoyed this, but it would be even better if it could go through a bit more editing.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the team for the ARC!

This was SUCH a fun read 😭🖤 Blood Red is like political thriller meets dark romcom with morally grey chaos everywhere and honestly? I devoured it. It gave me Lights Out x Butcher & Blackbird vibes with the humour, tension, and unhinged energy.

Daphne, the President’s daughter, gets kidnapped by Tristan Sinclair a masked vigilante trying to stop a healthcare bill that would destroy millions of lives. Except… Daphne already hates her parents and their politics 💀 so instead of being terrified, she basically joins him. Their dynamic in the first half was SO good. The banter, tension, mystery, and constant power plays had me hooked.

Tristan was peak morally grey obsessed MMC energy man is out here stalking politicians, plotting murder, building Daphne her dream library, buying her books, taking care of her dog… like sir??? The obsession was obsession-ing.

I also really loved how the story balanced darker themes with humour. It could be chaotic, intense, and genuinely funny all at once.

The only reason this wasn’t a full 5⭐️ for me was the second half lost a bit of the tension that made the beginning so addictive. Once the romance softened, it didn’t hit quite the same and I missed some of the sharper edge and humour from earlier on.

Still, this was such an entertaining ride and I’m really intrigued for the rest of the trilogy 👀

Thank you Caitlin Cherise for an ARC of Blood Red.

Blood Red was unlike anything I had ever read. A political thriller and a cute ass romance too?! Well let me just say I enjoyed it. I was hooked, it took two reading sessions and a lot of deep breaths at times to get through some intense moments but I had a few laughs too.

Daphne and Tristan were a dose of cuteness mixed in with a bunch of murders. Murders that were thankfully justified by them being political monsters. Daphne is the first daughter of the American President except her dad is a complete ass. Her Mum isn’t too far behind in the intolerable human scale either. Tristan kidnaps her and that’s only where the story begins.

The President's Daughter has a masked stalker who is a serial unaliver. Need I say more?!
This was such a fun spicy read with a serious plot. The banter between the FMC and MMC is so much fun, and their inner monologues don't fall short either. This Rom-Com/Dark Romance has an unputdownable rating of 100! The spice is so so good!!! Our MMC knows how to take care of a girl in all the ways and then more! Check your triggers, and if you're good with them. Add this to the top of your TBR!! Thank me later.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Perfect for fans of Lights Out. It's giving dark romcom, masked unaliver MMC, but he unalives for good reasons.

The romcom aspect of this was perfection. The banter had me laughing out loud. But the mix with the emotional, more serious aspects was done so well and flowed effortlessly.

I was hooked from the first line and read this in one sitting. I can't wait for the rest of this trilogy because Tristan's siblings intrigue me!

📖 Review – Blood Red
✍️ Author: Caitlin Cherise
🌍 Genre: dark political romance · vigilante romance · dark romantic comedy
💡 Tropes: obsessed cinnamon roll MMC, stalker × bookish FMC, vigilante justice, political chaos, serial killer energy, morally grey protector, kidnapping, touch her and die, dark humor, chaos couple, he falls first, he falls harder

Blood Red doesn’t try to be subtle.
It doesn’t whisper its darkness.
It weaponizes it.

This isn’t just a dark romance.
It’s a story that takes rage, politics, trauma, and obsession…and turns them into something disturbingly addictive.

At its core, this book asks:
What happens when the man who burns the world down…does it in your name?

The heroine isn’t naive.
She’s aware.
Of the system.
Of the injustice.
Of how easily people like her can be broken and discarded.
She doesn’t need saving in the traditional sense.
She needs someone who understands just how rotten everything really is.

And then there’s him.
The hero isn’t just morally grey.
He’s chaos wrapped in devotion.
A man who doesn’t just cross lines, he erases them.

Violence isn’t a last resort for him.
It’s a language.
A statement.
A way to take control in a world that constantly strips it away.

And yet…for her?
He softens in ways that feel almost dangerous.
Because the scariest thing about him isn’t what he does to others...it’s how gentle he can be with her.

Their relationship isn’t built on safety.
It’s built on recognition.
He sees her anger.
She sees his darkness.
And instead of running…they lean in.

This isn’t a love story about fixing each other.
It’s about finding someone who doesn’t flinch when you show them your worst parts.
The obsession here is consuming.
Not clean.
Not healthy.
But undeniably magnetic.
Because when he chooses her, he doesn’t hesitate, he doesn’t question, he doesn’t hold back.

What makes Blood Red hit differently is the blend of: violence, satire and emotion.
It’s brutal.
But it knows it’s brutal.
The story leans into the absurdity of power, politics, and control, while still delivering moments that feel uncomfortably real.
And beneath all the chaos…there’s something strangely sincere.
Because for all the darkness, this is still a love story.
Just not the kind that asks for permission.

🖤 What makes this story unforgettable
✨ An obsessed MMC who is equal parts unhinged and soft for her
✨ A heroine who doesn’t fear the darkness—she understands it
✨ Political chaos woven into a deeply personal story
✨ Violence used as both power and protection
✨ Dark humor cutting through heavy themes
✨ A romance that doesn’t redeem the monster—it accepts him

🔥 What I loved
• Tristan’s “I will destroy everything for you” energy
• The contrast between brutality and tenderness
• The unapologetic chaos of the plot
• The obsession that feels inevitable, not forced
• The dark humor layered into serious themes
• The way their connection feels like recognition, not coincidence

🔸 What could’ve been stronger
• Some political elements can feel overwhelming at times
• The chaos might feel too intense if you prefer structured plots
• Certain darker themes could’ve been explored with more depth

💡 Perfect for readers who love
• morally grey / unhinged but devoted MMCs
• dark romance with political undertones
• obsession-driven relationships
• vigilante justice + serial killer vibes
• chaos couples with intense chemistry
• romance that embraces darkness instead of healing it

📌 Verdict
Blood Red isn’t about saving the world.
It’s about burning it down and choosing who gets to stand beside you in the ashes.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 — for chaotic obsession, dark humor, and a love story that refuses to be anything less than unhinged.

Because sometimes love isn’t soft.
Sometimes it’s sharp.
Relentless.
And painted in blood. 🖤

4.5 ⭐ ARC REVIEW

Huge thanks to NetGalley and the author for the arc!🩵✨ Book release date: April 28th 2026

Tropes include:
🩸 stalker romance
🩸 political corruption
🩸 kidnapping
🩸 masked man
🩸 spicy
🩸 he falls first
🩸 touch her and 💀
🩸 opposites attract

"I've been kidnapped by a Pepsi-loving, V-for-Vendetta psycho."

Tristan Sinclair is the definition of morally gray: a man who is willing to spill blood to stop a bill that could destroy millions of lives. His plan ultimately involves kidnapping the daughter of the president, Daphne Fox. Tristan is ruthless, focused and absolutely not supposed to fall for the woman he abducted. Watching him struggle as he falls for Daphne first is extremely satisfying as his mission to stop a corrupt bill is derailed by his growing obsession.

Daphne Fox, the president's daughter is not your typical first daughter. She's sharp, angry, and painfully aware that her entire life is just a pawn in her father's political chess game. Being born into a family that shows no concern nor love for her she is forced to suffer in her own silence so when her kidnapper offers her a chance to strike back against her father, it feels less like a nightmare and more like a dangerous invitation. She is willing to trade her father's deepest darkest secrets for her own freedom.

The dynamic between our FMC and MMC is what truly drives the plot. Although Tristan had other motives from the beginning, he always maintained Daphne's safety and protection. Daphne did not shy away from Tristan's threats which soldified their connection from the very beginning. Their chemistry is explosive and blends the high tension of a stalker romance with high stakes of a national healthcare crisis. Their dynamic is intense. There is manipulation, tension, and reluctant trust but the chemistry is sizzling which leads to a spicy, BDSM-infused power struggle that just keeps the pages turning.

Blood Red is a political thriller wrapped in a dark romance and I devoured every page. What hooked me was the constant tug-of-war. Tristan plotting to kill the president whilst falling for his daughter? Daphne learning the lengths she'll go to for her own freedom? Add another dangerous online stalker and layers of political corruption and you've got a story that keeps you hooked. It's intense, twisted and addictive. It's a must add to the TBR.

2 stars, maybe 2.5?
This was very... meh. Very bland. Unseasoned, if you must.

PLOT:
The plot was straightforward enough. And it was pretty decent. The thing is, though, you cannot tell me right now that serial killers post their plans online. There's simply no way. If Tristan can get into the dark web, a capable government worker could too, and would that not just ruin all the terrible murder-y plans?
The romance was insta-love. WEIRD insta-love. They literally met once, after Tristan Daphne, and FALL IN LOVE WITHIN TWO DAYS. THESE PEOPLE ARE LITERALLY ENGAGED AFTER BASICALLY SIX MONTHS.
I feel like the plot just needed to be thought out more. There were so many things that just simply did not make sense whatsoever once you give it a single inkling of thought.

CHARACTERS:
This part was my problem with this book.
TRISTAN: Tristan was just weird. The author tries to portray him as a golden retriever serial killer boyfriend, which would certainly work if executed right. The issue, though, is that this is a very fragile balance, and if done wrong, it just makes Tristan seem bipolar. Which happened in this book. His entire character was just so incredibly off. It's hard to explain, so let me just give you an example. And he has a terrible nickname and is lwk really stupid.
DAPHNE: Daphne was just stupid. And suffering from an intense case of Stockholm Syndrome. She is so trusting and keeps on making the most terrible decisions of all time. HOW IS THE PRESIDENT'S DAUGHTER HIDING HER SPARE KEY UNDER THE DAMN FLOWER POT. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
THE SECRET SERVICE: How are they so incompetent in this book??? Are they not supposed to be the best of the best?

So yeah! This book was just... there.

“I will always find you.” (Not Tristan using my favorite OUAT quote from Prince Charming 😍)

This book was super fun, lots of thrills, murder and sex. What else could we ask for?

You can definitely feel the Lights Out vibes on a number of occasions.

It’s fast paced with lots of banter, sass and snark, which is basically my love language. The plot was intriguing enough I was never bored and the spice was well done. The murders Tristan carried out were so fresh and creative!!!!

Most of this book was really ramping up to be a 5 star read….. and then the ending happened. No, not the epilogue but I’ll get to that in a minute.

I really enjoyed Tristan putting on his detective cap and trying to figure out the identity of the stalker. It was a lot of fun… and then the hoodie. And the plot went from 0 to 60 and it was over. It was over! There was SO much potential that could have been done in the last like 14% instead it felt rushed and wrapped up in a matter of minutes. All the creative things we see Tristan do and then that… compared to the entire book the end was boring.

Now I’m gonna get a couple nitpicky things that irked me out of the way. I didn’t factor these into my rating.

At 21% Daphne calls Tristan by his name but up until that point she’d been calling him Guy because he’s not yet told her his name.

During the epilogue, which is Tristan’s POV, Tuck (Tristans identical twin brother) is called Tristan multiple times. It was really confusing the first time it happened and I had to reread that section and even flipped back to the beginning on the epilogue to make sure this was actually Tristan’s POV and I wasn’t crazy. The other 2 or 3 times it happened wasn’t as confusing but still kind hurt the vibe a little bit. Also, at one point Tuck is referred to as “she” despite being called “he”every other time.

Also, Why is Pepsi listed in the trigger warnings? lol

Second also, I 100% stand with Daphne on movie poster book covers and stickers. To the powers that be 🗣️ we don’t want that!

Thanks to the Caitlin Cherise and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinions are my own.

A new Author for me and a book that I really enjoyed.
And not being really into the political scene this book was written well with a touch of humour from both MC's
The first daughter, Daphne was never enough for her parents. Having lost her sister to a car accident, the sister that was everything to them, especially her mother, she was treated with disdain....even though she did what they wanted and when they wanted it.
Having become used to being in the spotlight as the perfect daughter, Daphne knew how to keep her mask on, so when Tristan made his move and kidnapped her, hoping for an amendment to a bill that her father, The President wanted to push through in regards to health care, that placed many American citizens without the health care they needed for ongoing chronic conditions.
Tristan, AKA: The Guy Fawkes Murderer, decided to take Daphne in the hopes her father would retract the bill. Yeh, not going to b that easy!
He likes what he sees in the curvy brunette...a little bit too much, and when she wakes he realises her tongue is as sharp as a razor and her wit entertaining.
With a lot of negotiating Daphne and Tristan come to an agreement, with Daphne helping him dismantle the new bill. He lets her go, hoping it is not the wrong move.
Mutual attraction increases to wanting more and soon they give into their feelings!
Some open door spice which is always good, I say! As Daphne and Tristan become more than just friends.
A fast paced story as Tristan methodically dismantles President Fox's network of constituents that will help vote in favour of the bill.
Daphne comes to terms with being with a murderer!
But danger circles, and Tristan finds that he is unable to find the man...the Ghost, who continually threatens Daphne.
An enjoyable story from start to finish, as Tristan continues to protect what he claims as his, whilst maintaining his vendetta to eradicate the possibility of the bill being passed.
And does Daphne finally get to be free of the ties that bind her to her parents?
Of course Daphne and Tristan do finally get their HEA but not before a few twists to a really enjoyable story!

Blood Red by Caitlin Cherise is a dark, political romance centered on political corruption and the people willing to stand up for what they believe in. This seemed a little different from my normal reads, and I’m so happy I picked it up. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It struck a great balance of intrigue, secrets, politics, dark romance, humor, and standing up for your beliefs—with murder thrown in.
I had a hard time putting this book down to go to sleep, and I highly recommend it.
Daphne, the president’s daughter, is our intelligent FMC, complete with past trauma, self-confidence, and parental issues. Sadly, she’s just a means to an end for her parents, who show her no love in this book. Tristan is our morally gray, Pepsi-loving (I agree with Daphne—psycho), dog-loving, heart-of-gold MMC who stands up for what he believes in. He kidnaps her to stop a healthcare bill her father is trying to get passed, because it will ruin the lives of average people while making those in power even richer. Their banter—even when she’s terrified and he’s frustrated—was really well done and relatable, and it solidified their connection and made it feel more real. I loved how protective he was of her and his family. Even though he’s technically not a “good guy,” he’s really a teddy bear on the inside.
Everything flowed and mixed really well together. I especially enjoyed Daphne’s character development and was so proud of her for standing up for herself. I also appreciated the mental health aspect and that the MCs get therapy, showing it isn’t a taboo thing.
I loved the ethical/moral issues (online stalking, murder, corruption, political power plays, and politicians NOT working for the good of their constituents/country), and the tie-in with everything going on in the world currently. I can’t wait to read more by Caitlin Cherise.
Read this book if you like:
• Stalker/Masked Man
• Political Corruption/Intrigue
• Kidnapping
• Morally gray/anti-hero
• Lots of Spice/Romance
• He Falls First
• Touch Her and 💀
• Opposites Attract

Thank you to the author for the Advanced Reader Copy of Blood Red.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Blood Red is a political thriller meets dark rom com. When I first received this book I was nervous about the political element, however the balance between the politics, romance, dark themes and the banter, was absolutely spot on!

This book gives off Lights Out vibes in the form of our MMC Tristan, who is literally a green flag stalker/serial unaliver of dodgy politicians. When I tell you we love Tristan...I mean we love Tristan 🫶

Tristan is trying to stop a medical bill from being passed that will impact the lives of many Americans, and his plan is to kidnap the presidents daughter and hold her ransom over the bill.

After months of stalking her, he failed to realise that Daphne (our FMC), actually dislikes her parents and struggles with most of her father's (AKA the President of the USA) political decisions. In short Daphne's parents suck!

After being kidnapped by her masked Stalker, Daphne uses her wit and charm to convince Tristan that her parents will not care about her being kidnapped, and instead she wants to work with him to stop the bill being passed. Daphne knows which politicians are dirty and exactly what dark crimes they commit. She strikes a deal with Tristan, she will help him, but in exchange she wants to put a hit out on someone, someone who hurt her and it was covered up.

The banter and tension between Daphne and Tristan is chefs kiss! Tristan falls instantly, and not only does he look after Daphne's border collie puppy, send her sweet treats, but he also builds her a library and fills it with books from her amazon list! This man is just ugggghhhh, we are obsessed! The humour in this book is Tristan, the words he says cracked me up! Also when we say touch her die...we mean touch her and die!

You will love Daphne and you will be obsessed with Tristan, and the plot is perfect to keep you on the edge of your seat. The plot to spice ratio is perfect. 🙌

This was a fantastic read and I am excited to read more from this author!

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of Blood Read.

3.5 stars rounded up.

This book starts strong, and had me hooked from the first page. I loved the premise: the First Daughter Daphne is kidnapped by Tristan from a political set up date. Her whole life is dictated by her father's ambitions, and her mother is constantly comparing her to Daphne's perfect sister that died in a car crash.

Along comes our morally grey MMC Tristan- or American Guy Fawkes so named due to having made his debut with a bang (literally)- a masked political assassin with an agenda. He's looking to kill a bill set to leave millions without health cover. (sounds familiar?)

If you love Luigi, and seeing (or reading about) scumbag politicians getting what they deserve, then this book is for you. There's politics, there's a little jaded, romance reading, curvy, real human sized FMC, puppies, romance & spice, puppies, morally grey MMC, and some of your favourite dark romance tropes.

There were many things I loved about this book (see above), and I especially loved Daphne as a character: she didn't ooh and aaah about liking Tristan. She was well aware of her loneliness and her bitterness when it came to the crap people in her life. I found that to be a really fresh and awesome take; too many FMCs try and be morally superior and are too conflicted about the shitty people in their lives. Daphne goes with the flow. She's defiant and sassy in the best ways.

The things I personally didn't love: I thought that Tristan was a bit too Insta-lovey, and beginning of the book Tristan to later on was kind of inconsistent and by and large seemed to drop his motivations.

The last few chapter pacing was a bit slow and it did feel like it just desperately wanted to put in scenes that were clearly inspired by other well known dark romance scenes without them really making sense within this particular story and the context which did come across a little heavy handed.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ *Blood Red* by Caitlin Cherise

⚠️ Check the trigger warnings page before diving in.

I did not expect to be reading passages aloud to my husband at midnight because he wanted to know why I was laughing and yet, here we are. *Blood Red* is that kind of book.

The premise is very serious: a man stalks and kidnaps the First Daughter in attempt to kill a healthcare bill working its way through Congress that could devastate millions of Americans. Caitlin Cherise doesn’t shy away from the weight of what’s at play, or from graphic violence that earns every one of those trigger warnings. But somehow, woven through all of that darkness, is some of the most genuinely funny banter and inner monologue I’ve read in a long time.

The MMC is morally gray. The kind of gray where you understand *exactly* why he’s doing what he’s doing, even when you probably shouldn’t. He’s not cruel for cruelty’s sake. He has a cause, a code, and an inability to keep his feelings in check around a woman he definitely didn’t plan on caring about. The “touch her and die” energy radiates off every page in the most delicious way possible.

The FMC is smart, she’s funny, and she has an interesting backstory beyond just being the First Daughter. The chemistry between the two main characters is perfection.

I will say, this is not a book for everyone. The violence is graphic and the author commits to the darkness of the concept rather than softening it for comfort. If that’s not your thing, this one may not be for you. But if you can handle the dark, the payoff in humor, tension, and romance is absolutely worth it.

This is a standalone so you won’t be left hanging at the end. And as an introduction to Caitlin Cherise? Whatever she writes next, I’m there. Will the brother and sister get their own books!? I hope!!!

Thanks to Caitlin Cherise and NetGalley for the opportunity to read Blood Red as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

First I’d like to thank The Berry Agency and Caitlin Cherise for the gifted ecopy of Blood Red to read and to give my honest and spoiler free review!

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Thoughts:
When I first started reading this story, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into but I did love that Caitlin had a couple pages in the beginning of her book to discuss a few things about the book first.

This was my first dark political thriller that was quite entertaining the entire way through. In this story we get to learn about Daphne, the First Daughter to the president. Following her character throughout the story we learn just how much of a pawn she was in her father’s politics. Instead of being a father, he practically uses her for any potential gain that he could gather for his political run. After living her life like that, she meets Tristan and finds herself joining forces with him in order to take down the government plans and her father.

Tristan seems like a twisted form of a vigilante. It is revealed throughout the book of all the things he has done in order to save the lives of the citizens. With a government full of corruption, Tristan took it upon himself to take down the ones who are threatening to destroy everyone in their care, however what he didn’t expect was having Daphne working with him.

Throughout the story, I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen. A lot of readers have called this world a big game of chess and I completely agree with it because the amount of cunningness that has to go into this is just insane. And on top of all of that, include some forbidden feelings that start to form between Daphne and Tristan while working together. Will Tristan be able to go through with his plan for the president? Or will his feelings for Daphne change his mind? To find that answer…you will have to pick up this book for yourselves!
