To know when to use the truth was the essence of successful deception.I should also mention that Tommy & Tuppence are very engaging characters, quite refreshing as a married couple: sort of Christie's sans-alcohol take on Hammett's Nick & Nora Charles (who had appeared in 'The Thin Man' in 1934).
In his mind was that phrase, uttered years ago, at the close of an earlier war. A joint venture...
That was what his life with Tuppence had been and would always be—a Joint Venture...
