The moment I kissed my wife, I knew I was in trouble.
A stoic, dangerous man with ties to the Mafia has no business keeping a gorgeous ray of sunshine like her, but she was scared and I was desperate.
On the run, we land at a secluded ranch designed to protect federal witnesses. As long as everyone believes we’re married, she won’t have to testify against me for killing the man who put his hands on her.
But the longer we pretend, the lines between fact and fiction begin to blur. My eyes linger a second too long. My hands soften on her skin. My kiss, a little too demanding.
Before I can help it, our pretending extends behind closed doors and our relationship begins to feel very, very real.
My plan is to hide out until I know she’s safe. Set her up for life and disappear, but I’m drawn to the way she breathes life into me without even trying. A better man would walk away.
Lena Hendrix is a USA Today and Amazon Top 5 bestselling contemporary romance author living in the Midwest. Her love for romance started with sneaking racy Harlequin paperbacks as a teenager and now she writes her own hot-as-sin small town romance novels. Lena has a soft spot for strong alphas with marshmallow insides, heroines who clap back, and sizzling tension. Her novels pack in small town heart with a whole lotta heat.
When she's not writing or devouring new novels, you can find her hiking, camping, fishing, and sipping a spicy margarita!
I've previously read this book but revisited the story on audio. I adored how the narrators brought this to life with Parkers grumpy and serious demeanour being captured perfectly. And Sienna's innocence and desire for her husband are sweetly interpreted by the narrator.
Previous review:
Another brilliantly crafted story of atonement and making amends at Redemption Ranch. This is Parker's story. He comes to the ranch after tracking his brother Evan there. If you've read The Badge you will already have an inkling into the family dynamic and the trouble Parker's arrival causes. His appearance with a new wife is a mystery and we slowly unravel their story.
This is a true grumpy/sunshine romance. Sienna has a brightness and optimism about her despite her circumstances and the crime that ties her to Parker. She makes the best of their situation and is unrelentingly positive despite being forced into a new life and a hidden identity. Parker on the other hand exudes grumpiness and is fairly fierce in his determination to be miserable. He is motivated to protect her and goes to extreme lengths to keep her safe. Their marriage is a cover at first, but these two are so clearly meant to be.
Sienna finds family and a home amongst the people of the ranch and Parker finds his salvation in her and in making amends with his family. And who doesn't love a leading man with a love of historical romance novels? He is basically perfect!
A gorgeously heated and surprisingly touching grumpy/sunshine marriage of convenience romance.
I can’t get enough of cowboy romance these days. I devoured The Alias. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, the Badge, so I was so excited to return to Redemption Ranch. The Alias was even better for me! I recommend this audio for anyone who loves grumpy/sunshine, fake relationships, small town, and forced proximity.
Everyone was surprised when Parker showed up to the ranch with his new wife, Sienna. Parker has always been a bit of a grumpy loner, who never wanted to settle down. In reality, they were right to be suspicious. Parker and Sienna are totally faking their marriage to avoid the trouble they left in Chicago, but their attraction and feelings for each other end up being very real.
Parker and Sienna complemented each other so well despite their differences. I always love a grumpy and brooding MMC, but there were so many secret ways that Parker showed he cared for Sienna. He was definitely a secret softy.
The Alias is narrated by Ryan Hudson & Erin Mallon. I loved listening to this book, and thought both narrators did a great job with their characters.
While The Alias could definitely be read/listened to as a standalone, I still recommend reading the series in order. I’m loving this series so much and I can’t wait to listen to book three, which is called The Rebel. 4.5/5
When you’re being chased by the mafia, have to hide in plain sight, and fake marry a man that killed to save you, everything is fine right?
The Alias is fun, tense, steamy, and hard to press pause on. Hendrix brings us the story of Parker and Sienna. Parker and Sienna are on the run, and the only place Parker can think to go that might be safe….. Laurel Canyon Ranch. Sienna wants to help Parker since he protected her and the only way she can think to do that… Marry a man she doesn’t know so she won’t have to testify against him. What happens at Redemption Ranch is an entertaining ride full of suspense, great banter, and heat.
Ryan Hudson and Erin Mallon do a wonderful job of brining these characters to life. They are able to pull you into the story and have you feeling everything the characters go through. Some of my favorite narrated scenes are ones that include banter between Parker and Sienna. Hudson and Mallon brought the fun to those scenes and made the characters personalities shine.
If you’re looking for a fun listen as you go about your day, Parker, Sienna, and the rest of Redemption Ranch are ready for you.
This book was predictable as most in the genre are. I liked it a lot more than the first book in the series. It was entertaining and very easy to listen to. My biggest issue is that there was nothing realistic about it and the ending was a bit too far fetched for me. I liked the suspense parts of the plotline so that it was not all romance and miscommunication tropes.
