Aurora It was just another night at the bar where I work as a cocktail waitress to pay for my sister’s college.
Until the sexy man with the bad-boy vibe tips me five hundred dollars for a single drink and looks at me like no one ever has before.
Until I step into the alley to take out the trash and watch him kill a man who attacks me.
Until he kidnaps me.
Until I learn he’s Russian mafia, and I have information he wants. Information that can get me—and my little sister—killed.
Until I fall for him.
Alexei Six years ago, my impulsiveness got my brother killed. Now I’m cold. Calculated. Controlled.
Everything bratva should be.
Until a gorgeous cocktail waitress wearing a ridiculously skimpy costume witnesses me kill a man.
First, I was her jailer. Then her protector.
Now I’m the only thing standing between her and the elite criminals on both sides who want her dead. But my icy resolve is melting. She’s defiance and vulnerability wrapped into one tempting package. To keep her safe, I’ll need to risk everything.
Including the control I swore I’d never lose again.
*His Reckless Obsession is a full-length mafia romance novel with no cheating and a guaranteed HEA.
More about His Reckless - Forced Proximity - Captive/Kidnapped - Grumpy/Sunshine - Innocent Outsider - Fake Engagement - Hero on a Quest - Damsel in Distress - Rich Man, Poor Woman - Has an HEA - Can be read as a standalone
One second she’s making out with a hot, dangerous mystery man in the bar she works at. The next? She’s in an alley headbutting him while he’s trying to zip-tie her wrists.
And that pretty much tells you what kind of ride this book is.
Yes, technicallyyyyy he kidnaps her and kind of hold her hostage👀 BUTTT kidnapping hits a little different when the destination is a massive mansion instead of some grimy dungeon. It’s giving very much high-end hostage.
I love how Alexei takes her back because she witnessed him kill someone and somehow she goes from captive/witness and someone he is supposed to kill to his literal wife. And you already know that mafia and “my wife” is like the perfect storm.
This story reads like an action movie and I love it. There are shootouts, barely escaping with your life moments. It’s chaotic from the start, and it never really slows down.
Alexei has that prototype that I live for, cold, closed off, never-been in love, emotionally unavailable to everyone except apparently her. In the beginning he’s grumpy, distant, and very much in control. But the second that switch flips that man is. Completely obsessed. The shift from calculating mafia boss to down bad for one woman is my SHIT.
And the moment that sealed it for me he notices Aurora isn’t herself after everything that happens. Her apartment is destroyed, her world is flipped upside down, and her spark is just… gone. So he goes back to the crime scene, finds her cat, takes it to the vet because it cut its paw on glass, and brings it back to her. SWOON. A man that is kind to animals is a man after my own heart.
A trained killer who handles rivals without blinking but makes sure the cat gets medical care? COME ONNNNB
There’s also an underlying murder mystery threaded through the story, and I loved that we weren’t handed everything at once. You get crumbs. You’re piecing things together. Add in rival mafia factions and constant tension, and Aurora ends up stuck between two dangerous men, one who wants to claim and protect her, and one who is a threat in a danger to her.
This was pure mafia romance entertainment. Super bingeable. The kind of book where you sit back, and just enjoy the chaos. It has action, angst, obsession, and that intense, possessive energy that makes it low key addictive.
It for sure delivered exactly what I wanted drama, danger, and a ruthless man who falls harder than he ever planned to while literally on his knees🤭

First Impressions This is a new to me author. I found one of this author's posts on Instagram and it sounded intriguing so I decided to pick up the first book especially when I read the blurb for this book and honestly I immediately jumped into it as I needed a good escape romance to leave reality with for a while and I didn't want to put this one down and just devoured it. Its not a perfect mafia romance but it fed my mood just right. And it left me intrigued and wanting more of the author and this series.
First Line I stare at the polyester nightmare dangling from my boss's meaty fist and wonder why I even bothered getting out of bed this morning.

What I Loved His Reckless Obsession was a story I never expected to read this weekend but I had so much fun with it. It actually had way more depth than I honestly expected. This is a author I hadn't ever heard of before if I am being honest. But I didn't want to put her down which is a really great sign! I totally vibed with this book so wonderfully. I think what I loved the most was the chemistry and yearning between Alexei and Aurora. This is not a book if you just want smut. There isn't that many sex scenes. It definitely has a bit more slow burn feel to it. But honestly the kissing scenes are some of the best I have read in mafia in a long while. I have been wanting some mafia romance that isn't so sex heavy and this definitely was perfect for me. I loved the focus of connection and deeper intimacy that is portrayed. I did appreciate how the truth comes out in the end though. Seeing how these two help each other heal from past wounds and just accept each other was deeply resonating.
What I Struggled With The heroine had some "tstl" in the beginning lol but she learns and gets better so it wasn't a big issue for me. And I also wish the ending of this one ended a bit better. Cause now I have to jump into book 2 to find out what happens with the plot. And I honestly think the author could have had this book be a bit longer to explore more of their relationship a bit better. The writing isn't going to WOW you or be a 6 star read but its enjoyable and captivating.
Overall View His Reckless Obsession is a story that will dig deep into emotion, yearning, connection and an accepting love!

Steam/Spice Explanations
Steamin' up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.
This book was actually better than the second one (which I read first, don’t ask 😅). The emotions felt much stronger and more present in this installment.
And honestly.... who doesn’t love a good forced marriage to a brooding mafia man? Both main characters were compelling and well-developed, and their dynamic kept me hooked the whole time. ✅forced marriage ✅ kidnapped by the mmc ✅ h is innocent to the mafia world ✅ no virgin ✅ no cheating/OW drama 100% safe
YA’LL I couldn’t put this book down!! 🖤 this is a DARK mafia romance that follows Alexei who’s part of the Russian mafia💀he ends up kldnapping a cocktail waitress who witnessed him commit murd€r, she’s a feisty one though and won’t go down easy! He is a ruthless walking red flag, a monster to everyone EXCEPT to her 🤭 If you love dark romance books where the stakes are high, the MMC is protective and obsessed and would literally KlLL for her, this is a must!

ARC Review for His Reckless Obsession by Ava Zane ✨ Book 1 – Bratva Brotherhood Series
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ an explosive, heart-racing mafia thriller 🔥
Ava Zane came out SWINGING with her debut 👏 His Reckless Obsession is dark, emotional, violent, tender, and beautiful in all the places you don’t expect. Aurora is a cocktail waitress barely surviving a life that keeps hitting her from every direction 🥺poverty, dangerous men, a sickening job, and the crushing responsibility of protecting and providing for her sister. The night she meets Alexei, a cold, lethal Bratva enforcer drowning in grief and vengeance, everything changes. A single spark at a bar. A kiss to escape danger. A murder she wasn’t meant to witness. And suddenly her life spirals into blood, secrets, kidnappings, and a war she never asked for. I love how Ava made Aurora an artist 👩🎨 a mosaic maker who sees beauty in broken things, who recognizes the cracks and weaknesses even trained soldiers miss. She is light in a world built on violence… and Alexei sees it immediately. Alexei is pure chaos wrapped in steel. A man hollowed by the loss of his brother, refusing to let the lies around him stand. He’s ruthless, terrifying, and yet soft in ways he doesn’t know how to express. His obsession with Aurora is reckless, but also protective, consuming, and painfully genuine.
Their chemistry? Scorching🥵
When the brotherhood discovers Aurora, Alexei does the one thing that will keep her safe: he claims her. “She’s my fiancée.”
What follows is a fake engagement, a forced marriage neither expected, and a love that blooms slowly yet beautifully amid looming danger. He gives her safety. A home. A studio for her art. A future she never dared hope for. She gives him purpose. Truth. Light. A reason to breathe again.
Their wedding night? I’m STILL recovering♥️🥹
Just when life feels settled, Gio Falcone slithers back in and ignites a full blown war. The revelations about MJ, the diamonds, the betrayal… EVERYTHING ties together perfectly.
The most powerful thing? Aurora becomes more than a witness. More than a wife. More than a victim and survivor. She becomes a Bratva queen 👸 in her own light.
This debut is rich, emotional, intensely romantic, and genuinely addictive. I cannot wait for the next installment in the Bratva Brotherhood world 🙌 Thank you Ava for an incredible start to this series
This had me early with the chaos, banter, and unhinged mafia vibes. Broody Russian hitman, accidental witness, kidnapping → fake engagement → obsession? Yes please. Alexei absolutely delivers—cold, controlled, and feral when it comes to protecting her.
But Aurora was frustrating. She swings from strong and defiant to insecure and self-loathing so fast it gave me whiplash. One minute she’s scared of him, the next she’s ready to marry him—pick a lane.
And the plot? Started strong, then spiraled. Too many twists, shootouts, and random chaos without enough grounding.
Still… I was entertained.
Quick hits:
Mafia hitman x witness Captor → obsessed protector Fake engagement chaos Banter + tension hit FMC inconsistent Plot gets messy
Fun, chaotic read—but don’t expect it to fully hold together.
This is advertised as a standalone. It is not. It was giving 5 star vibes the whole time and then the last chapter…I was just like—that’s it? No conclusion. A definite cliffhanger. So many questions.
The second book continues the story line but with an entirely different couple. So the first book is not complete.
This was barely a 3 for me. First, I can’t stand poor communication. And this book has it - a lot. The ending sucks - sorry not sorry. It took them forever to decide they even liked each other. Just not the book for me.
Ava Zane did not tiptoe into the mafia romance world. She kicked the door in with blood on her boots and feelings in her hands. His Reckless Obsession is dark, emotional, violent, and unexpectedly tender, the kind of book that lures you in with danger and keeps you there with heart. Aurora is barely holding it together. She’s a cocktail waitress scraping by, sacrificing everything to keep her sister safe and in school, while life keeps throwing fists instead of favors. Then one reckless night detonates her world: a dangerous stranger, a too-generous tip, a split-second kiss, a man killed in an alley… and suddenly she’s trapped in the crosshairs of the Bratva. Enter Alexei. Cold. Lethal. Controlled to the point of cruelty. A Russian enforcer shaped by loss and regret, who’s spent years turning grief into discipline. Until Aurora witnesses something she shouldn’t have. Until she becomes his responsibility. His secret. His weakness. What starts as captivity shifts into protection, then something far messier and far more dangerous: attachment. This book delivers on all the mafia romance promises. Forced proximity. Constant danger. A protector who doesn’t ask permission before claiming what’s his. The slow burn between Aurora and Alexei builds under pressure, and when his control starts to fracture? Oh, it hits. Aurora is a standout FMC. She’s not reckless or naïve. She adapts. She survives. She holds onto her creativity and compassion even while surrounded by violence, and that emotional grounding makes her feel real in a world full of monsters. Alexei is every broody alpha reader’s weakness. Intense, possessive, and terrifyingly capable. Watching his walls crack for Aurora was deeply satisfying, especially when his obsession stops being just about control and starts becoming about protection. The writing is smooth, engaging, and confident, especially for a debut. The world-building feels intentional and expansive, setting the stage for a series that clearly has more blood, secrets, and broken men waiting in the wings. The ending ties up enough to satisfy while leaving threads dangling just enough to make book two feel necessary. This is a strong, promising start to the Bratva Brotherhood, and Ava Zane is absolutely an author to watch. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️.5
If you love dark mafia romance with a morally gray hero, forced proximity, and a mix of danger and mystery, His Reckless Obsession is such a gripping read.
Aurora is just trying to survive working as a cocktail waitress to put her sister through medical school when she ends up in the wrong place at the worst possible time. One moment changes everything when she witnesses something she shouldn’t… and suddenly finds herself entangled with Alexei, a member of the Bratva mafia who definitely doesn’t let witnesses walk away.
But instead of eliminating her, Alexei takes her. What starts as a dangerous situation quickly turns into something more complicated when he claims her as his fiancée to protect her and to keep her close while he investigates his brother’s death. The fake relationship, the tension, and the constant underlying danger make this story hard to put down.
Alexei is the definition of a grumpy, guilt-ridden, morally gray MMC. He’s driven by revenge and answers, but the more time he spends with Aurora, the more his walls start to crack. Watching his obsession and protectiveness grow felt intense in the best way.
Aurora was easy to root for. She’s strong in a quiet, determined way doing whatever she can for her sister while navigating a world she never asked to be part of. Her resilience adds so much heart to the story, especially as she finds a sense of belonging in the most unexpected place.
With elements of kidnapping, fake marriage, and suspense woven throughout, this book balances romance and plot really well. The chemistry is there, the stakes are high, and the mystery surrounding Alexei’s brother keeps things moving.
Overall, His Reckless Obsession is a compelling mix of danger, emotion, and slow-building love. If you’re into protective, morally gray heroes and high-stakes mafia romance with a suspenseful edge, this one is definitely worth the read.
Tropes: • Mafia Romance • Morally Grey MMC • Fake Marriage • He takes her • Mystery/Suspense
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ — 4.5 Stars, I Was Glued From Chapter One
Okay so… this book?? It grabbed me by the throat from page one and refused to let go 😮💨🖤 Like… I opened it thinking I’d read a few pages and suddenly I’m 60% in, dehydrated, and emotionally unstable in the BEST way 🫠📖. The atmosphere is dark and tense, the emotions are messy, raw, and a little unhinged, and it’s the kind of story that makes you pause, stare at a wall, and whisper "what did I just read" (in a good way) 😵💫. This book absolutely followed me into my sleep… and yes, it tried to ruin that too 🤭🫣😁
I don’t say this lightly....but I was completely locked in from chapter one 🔒. Alexei and Aurora pulled me into their world immediately, and once I was there, there was no escaping them 🖤.
Alexei is exactly the kind of man you know you shouldn’t love… but absolutely do anyway 😈🔥 Dangerous, intense, and obsessively focused in a way that somehow works. And Aurora? She’s strong without being overdone, soft without being weak, and she matches his energy so naturally that their connection just clicks 💥. The tension, the push and pull, the way they orbit each other.... I ate it up 😌.
The chemistry between them is undeniable 🔥. Every interaction feels charged, like something is about to snap at any second.... and when it does? Completely worth it 🫦.
Overall, a solid 4.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨. Intense, gripping, darkly addictive, and impossible to put down. If you love obsessive men, strong heroines, and romances that emotionally wreck you just enough to keep you thinking about them long after you close the book… this one delivers 💭🖤📚.
I’ve had this book on my TBR since the beginning of the year because of all the positive recommendations from Tik Tok. And I finally got to a point where I could read it since it’s the first book in the series.
Aurora is a poor, beaten up by life (but still feisty, smart and capable) waitress working at a questionable bar to fund her sister’s college/med school tuition. After a steamy, brief encounter with Alexei, Aurora is forced to take out the trash (literally) and witnesses Alexei killing someone she happens to know. Instead of killing the witness, Alexei (who is part of his family’s Bratva) kidnaps Aurora, and so begins the story.
After the kidnapping, there was a bit of a lull as two extremely broken people find ways to trust each other and love each other. Of course Aurora proves to be more trouble than Alexei anticipated and it lead to some humorous and harrowing moments. Reading each of their back story was, at times, heartbreaking. There were times I just wanted to give them a hug and sit down and cry with them. Both are so damaged, but they try to fix the other by showing the compassion each has been lacking. Throw in a little lie to Alexei’s uncle, Roman, who is the Pakhan, that leads to a forced wedding, and I was feeling as out of sorts as Aurora at her wedding. Oh the way my heart ached during the wedding.
But the last 30% of the book is so good and worth the wait. And while Aurora and Alexei get their HEA, the book ending reveals a mystery that kicks off the next book. Overall, a good start to this series
This is a strong debut and a really solid start to the Bratva Brotherhood series.
His Reckless Obsession delivers exactly what it promises. Forced proximity, danger, protection, and a slow burn connection that grows under pressure. Aurora is a cocktail waitress just trying to keep her life and her sister afloat when one night changes everything, and suddenly she’s tangled up with Alexei, a controlled, dangerous Bratva enforcer with a lot of guilt and a very sharp edge.
Aurora was my favorite part of the story. She’s resilient, loyal, and emotionally grounded even when the world around her is chaos. I loved that she has a creative side and an inner strength that doesn’t disappear just because she’s surrounded by powerful men. She feels like someone who adapts instead of breaks.
Alexei is intense, broody, and very much in his mafia alpha era. When he claims Aurora, it lands, and there are moments where his control slipping is especially satisfying. Their dynamic builds steadily, and once it clicks, the chemistry is there.
The story itself is well written, easy to follow, and clearly sets up a larger world that feels ready to expand. This reads like a confident debut with a clear vision, and I can absolutely see readers who love mafia romance diving right in and wanting more from this series.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read and a promising start for Ava Zane. I’m looking forward to seeing where she takes this world next. Thank you to the author for the ARC.
A strong debut with great tension, danger, and compelling characters, but what truly stood out for me was Aurora. She is brave, loyal, talented, and easily the best part of this book. This might be the first mafia romance where I preferred the FMC over the MMC.
Alexei is complex and intriguing, but he carries a heavy sadness from start to finish. Even with Aurora by his side, the gloom never fully lifts, which made his character feel less satisfying for me. Their chemistry, though, is undeniable, and together they are hot, hot, hot!!!!! Both are driven by love for their siblings and by guilt. Aurora works herself to exhaustion to support her sister, and Alexei is consumed by finding out the truth behind his brother’s death. Their collision leads to a kidnapping, a fake engagement, and a marriage built on protection and necessity (and love). Aurora shines in every moment. Her courage, her art, her loyalty, and her strength make the story worth reading. I also loved the big family vibe, warm and chaotic.
By the end, some secrets are revealed while others are carried into the next book, which keeps the series intriguing. I’m definitely looking forward to what comes next.
A great debut and a promising start to the series. Highly recommended. Thanks for the ARC.
What a debut! I'm still blown away; it's a hell of a storyline. I've read a lot of dark romance/mafia stories lately, but this book is in a league of its own. I was captivated from the first line to the last and didn't want to put the book down. Great writing style, beautifully written, and so many loving details, almost too many. You empathize with the two main characters and are right in the middle of their emotional turmoil. A near-perfect blend of emotions, banter, suspense, smut, and secrets. I like FMC and MMC equally, which is rare. I love that FMC Aurora is a strong woman, yet also fragile at the same time. I also like MMC Alexei's character traits: dominant, possessive, but he also has a hidden soft side that he only shows Aurora. Outstanding chemistry between the two protagonists. All in all, an incredibly great book. Bonus point for including a cat. Tough Bratva men who care for a pet melt my heart. Finally, there's an HEA for Aurora and Alexei, but not all questions are answered; some mysteries remain. I'm really looking forward to reading the next installments of the Bratva Brotherhood series to see how all the open questions about the overarching plot will be resolved. Don't miss this gem. Highly recommended. HEA, no cheating or sharing ⭐️ 5/5 🌶 4/5
In Reckless Obsession, Aurora works as a cocktail waitress so she can pay her rent, bills and her sister’s college tuition. She hates her job but loves her sister more than anything. She will do anything she has to do to ensure her sister’s happiness and future. The night she meets Alexei, he tips her generously. She knows she won’t see him again but then she stumbles onto him and a man arguing. The confrontation leads to a death and now she’s a witness. Fearing for her life she tries to run but he grabs her. What will happen now?
Alexei has plagued with memories and guilt for the death of his brother. He believes he got him killed and is investigating his death. He’s intrigued by Aurora when he meets her. There is an instant connection and chemistry. Unfortunately, he catches her watching him while questioning someone and her distraction causes a confrontation that leads to a death. He has no choice but to take her.
Ava Zane has me feeling bad for Aurora. Her life is in danger for being in the wrong place at the wrong time not once but twice. All she wants is to keep her sister safe. I also felt bad for Alexei. He refuses to give up until he finds out who killed brother. I loved their banter and the tension between them. This was an emotional rollercoaster. It was filled with drama, a lot of action, danger, heat, and suspense.
I know I’m in the minority here, but this book didn’t hit the mark for me.
Despite the labels, this was not a dark mafia romance. The writing itself is good, but the plot lacked the realism and "bite" I expected from this genre.
My biggest grievance was the tropes: I personally can’t stand poor communication or withholding information, and this book relied on both far too heavily.
Alexei didn’t feel like a formidable mafia enforcer; intimidating drunks at a party or blackmailing a driver doesn't exactly scream "underworld kingpin."
As for Aurora, her character felt inconsistent. She was tough only with Alexei, but inexplicably crumbled or went mute when dealing with other men like Roman, Gio, or even her landlord. Furthermore, her relationship with Samantha felt hollow—how do you not mention a boyfriend or a wedding to the person your entire life revolves around?
The chemistry was lacking, the "I love yous" felt rushed and convenient, and the logistics were distracting (did they really not have 20 minutes in three days to buy her some underwear?).
It’s an okay read, but I needed more believability to truly dive in.
This one was fun, very lightly dark, slow burn, standalone but start of a new series. There was pretty funny banter, I really liked the FMC 🤪
Aurora is a cocktail waitress trying to make money to pay for her little sister’s college. Alexei is looking for answers into his brothers dêath, and is “shaking down” someone outside when she comes out, witnesses something so he adult naps her until he can figure out what to do with her.
His pàkhan wants him to unalive her as a witness, so they are forced to marriage if she wants to stay alive.
This one was fun, and the writing was good, I really vibed with the book. But I was just a little bummed that it could have had more with the brâtva mystery plot. The ending was rushed in the last 10% so there was very light suspense and it’s over very quickly. Some might like that but I need more suspense and a little more spice 🤪
MMC Alexei Kozlov FMC Aurora Bailey ❤️Tropes: brátva, instalust, forced marriage of convenience, kìdnapping, slow burn, mystery plot line, feisty strong FMC, possessive MMC, “my wife” 📍Setting: Chicago 💁POV: dual, first person 🖤Darkness level: 2/5 🌶️Spice 2.5/5 📚Plot 4/5 🌎World building 3.5/5 ⚠️Triggers: murdêr, kîdnapping, viólence
His Reckless Obsession is a phenomenal start to The Bratva Brotherhood series. As a new reader of this author, I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the characters and the intensity of the plot. The story follows Aurora, a self-sacrificing sister working a grueling job as a cocktail waitress to fund her sister's future. Her life takes a terrifying turn when she witnesses Alexei, a man she had a brief but intense connection with at the club, involved in a violent altercation. Alexei is a complex lead, driven by the trauma of losing his brother and a desperate need for vengeance. The dynamic between them is built on incredible tension and forced proximity. Because she is a witness to a crime, Alexei takes her, leading to a captor and captive situation that evolves into so much more. This book hits all the best tropes: Forced Marriage Grumpy x Sunshine Found Family FMC In Danger The blend of action and suspense kept the stakes high, while the heat and banter kept the romance at the forefront. If you enjoy a dark mafia romance with a protective, obsessed hero, this is a must-read.
3.75 Stars This was a solid mafia romance, though I wouldn’t necessarily classify it as a dark mafia story. I can’t quite pinpoint why—it just didn’t have the same intensity or atmosphere that I usually associate with darker entries in the genre.
One thing I struggle with in books like this is when the story ends on a cliffhanger but the continuation shifts to a different couple. I can understand that approach if the main couple’s arc has some level of closure, but when the larger story is still unresolved, it’s hard for me to fully invest in a new couple while the original plot is still hanging.
I also found myself wishing Aurora made slightly smarter choices at times. I appreciated that she had some fight in her and that her knowledge of structures played a role, but a few of her decisions felt frustrating because she seemed smarter than the choices she made.
Alexei fits the classic broody mafia hero archetype—the intimidating crime boss who secretly has a soft spot for the heroine.
Overall, I think this series will really appeal to readers who enjoy interconnected, ongoing mafia romances where each book focuses on a new couple while continuing the larger storyline.
I don’t really see why this is considered a dark romance because the “dark” aspects were simply not there. Alexei is constantly described as a monster, yet he doesn’t do anything even remotely morally gray the entire time. He’s actually pretty tame for someone in the “mafia.” I don’t even know what his role is in the family business, because he just lives a normal millionaire lifestyle..that’s how “mafia-themed” this book was.
I didn’t like Aurora at all. She was supposed to be a strong fmc but turned into a doormat as soon as she spoke with any male other than Alexei. One second she is petrified because of her situation, but the next she is so in love with him and horny af so it gave me whiplash how fast her opinion changed within the same paragraph. Best example: she was depressed and “numb” throughout the whole wedding but as soon as they get home and Alexei literally says one sentence, she is happy again, with “light dancing in her eyes” and even thanking him for everything after giving him a wedding gift 🙃 bffr.
This cycle went on for almost the entire book so by the last 30% I didn’t care for her at all and had to force myself to finish this.
A Dark, Addictive Mafia Romance That Kicks the Door In
Ava Zane doesn’t ease you into mafia romance—she storms in with blood on her boots and feelings in her hands. His Reckless Obsession is dark, emotional, violent, and unexpectedly tender. Aurora and Alexei pulled me in from page one: she’s a survivor fighting to protect her sister, he’s a cold, disciplined Bratva enforcer undone by the one woman he shouldn’t want.
The tension is intense and electric 😮💨🔥—forced proximity, danger at every turn, and a protector who claims first and apologizes never. Aurora is resilient and real; Alexei is every broody-alpha lover’s kryptonite. Their slow-burn obsession feels powerful and earned.
The world-building is sharp, the writing confident, and you can feel the setup for a bigger, bloodier series. I only docked a star because the ending felt abrupt—no epilogue, more like “see you in the next book” 😅📚. Still, I’m hooked.
If you love dark mafia romance with heart, this one delivers. 💋🖤🔥
thrives on contrast—light versus darkness, creation versus destruction—and that tension is perfectly captured in lines like, “She creates. I destroy. She nurtures. I defile. She is light. I am nothing but shadow and violence.” The hero is unapologetically brutal and morally gray, while the heroine brings strength and depth that challenge him at every turn.
The spice is intense and unapologetic, laced with a dangerous edge that fits seamlessly with the mafia setting. One of the most striking moments comes with the chilling admission: “To corrupt her. Make her more like me. Dirty her. Break her. Force her to show obedience.” It’s dark, provocative, and perfectly encapsulates the twisted pull between the characters.
What truly sets this story apart is how it balances relentless action with emotional stakes. It never slows down, never plays it safe, and delivers a romance that feels raw, risky, and addictive. If you’re looking for a Bratva romance packed with adventure, tension, and spice—and one that feels fresh in a crowded genre—this one is absolutely worth the read.
If you love dark romance with obsessive, protective men then this one pulls you in fast. The tension is immediate, the danger is real, and the chemistry is chef's kiss. The Bratva world Ava builds is gritty and intense, but underneath all the power and violence is a man who would absolutely burn the world down for her. The possessiveness, the loyalty, the way he protects what's his.. it's everything you want in a mafia romance. Dark, addictive, and full of tension that keeps the pages turning. Tropes: Dark mafia romance, touch her and d!3, possessive MMC, dangerous love, and protective hero.
Tropos: Romance oscuro, tocala y te mueres, héroe posesivo, amor peligroso y protector
Wow, what a wild ride! So good! This is the first novel I have read by this author and I am so glad I found it. It did not disappoint. I love a good mafia romance and this novel checked so many boxes for me. I was excited to jump into this novel and it did not let me down. From the first chapter this novel pulled me in and held on tight. I loved Aurora's character, she is working so hard to take care of her sister. I love how she is devoted to doing what's right for her sister. Wow, Aurora and Alexei together had intense chemistry. What started out as witnessing a murder and lead to a kidnapping ending with Alexei as her protector. What a wild ride! So good! Once I started reading I didn't want to put this novel down. So so good! I look forward to see what this author has coming next.
This is my first book by Ava Zane, His Reckless Obsession (Book 1 in the Bratva Brotherhood series).
A strong debut with great tension, danger, and compelling characters, His Reckless Obsession is dark, emotional, violent, and unexpectedly tender—the kind of story that lures you in with danger and keeps you hooked with heart.
The book delivers exactly what it promises: forced proximity, danger, protection, and a slow-burn connection forged under pressure. The FMC is just trying to survive and protect her sister when one night changes everything, tangling her life with the MMC—a controlled and dangerous Bratva enforcer burdened by guilt and a razor-sharp edge.
