Dallin the Violet: A Slow Burn Fantasy Series

Rate this book
The final promise must be kept. A kingdom's fate hangs in the balance.

Claire has reclaimed her memories and the throne, but her greatest challenge awaits. With Kane escaped to the impenetrable fortress of Shadowkeep, she must fulfill the unbreakable promise that has defined her journey—no matter the cost. Armed with both sprite and mage magic, she pursues the ancient sorcerer to his stronghold, determined to end his reign of terror once and for all.

But victory demands sacrifice. As Claire faces her final confrontation with the enemy who has haunted Dragonwall, the kingdom rebuilds around her. New alliances are forged, unlikely romances bloom, and the next generation begins to emerge. From Dallin's dangerous undercover mission to the unprecedented unions that will reshape the realm, change is sweeping across Dragonwall. And with change comes hope—along with choices that will determine not just Claire's fate, but the future of everyone she loves.

Dallin the Violet is the seventh and final book in the Dragonwall Series, where every promise finds its resolution, every heart finds its home, and a kingdom discovers that sometimes the greatest victories come from knowing when to let go.

Melissa Mitchell is a fantasy romance author best known for her seven-book Dragonwall series.

She fell in love with fantasy at a young age after discovering The Dragonriders of Pern, and she’s been chasing dragons, magic, and epic love stories ever since. Her books often feature beloved tropes like hidden royalty, slow-burn romance, and the undeniable tension of only one bed.

When she’s not writing, Melissa holds a PhD in physics and works as an optical engineer. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, a husky, and four very spoiled bunnies. She also enjoys baking cookies, bullet journaling, and figure skating—usually while thinking about her next book.

Probably the only book in the series I was looking forward to finishing.
I’ve only ever read Melissa’s books on Wattpad and I didn’t pay much attention to the quality of the grammar or even spelling because I always assumed that these go fixed when they went to get published, but having read this in a physical book that I paid money for, I was disappointed to find at least 3 spelling and grammar errors within the first 70 pages. It was also difficult to tell when something was meant to be quote or a letter or a scene or something when it was all in the same style, font, and size.

This book feels sloppy and rushed and tbh almost not needed. The book basically concluded in the first three chapters and after that it was basically an epilogue. It feels like the author didn’t plan the series out well enough and by the seventh book, just ran out of material.

Every character in this book all of a sudden sounded and spoken in the exact same way - even the ancient king tree. There was too much modern speak from characters which shouldn’t have spoken like that. Before if I read the book, I’d be able to distinguish more which character was speaking but this time it all felt the same.

Also, I don’t want the character saying “which roughly translates to”.

absolutely loved the last epilogue!!! especially the dragon form presented in it! AHHHHHHHHH

AMAzing writing i wont spend my time writing an long ass review cuz i already did that on wattpad but i adore this series so much and as someone who finished the 3 first books within like 1-2 weeks i HIGHLY recommend. There are a few moments here and there that are questionable but when i say i barely felt them i mean it. the general plot? amazin. the characters? consistent, loveable, absolutely loveable. the ending? pretty dang sad yet heartfelt. If i had to point out something negative about this i would have to mention reyrs ending. I felt it was a big convenient and sadly not realistic compared to his feelings and the lore...ig? idk how to phrase it with no spoilers.

BUT DEFF RECOMMEND.
this series is deadass 10 times better than the acotar series (althought i loved the characters and the second book in that series)

I can’t believe this is the end 😭 i’ve loved this series since it was in Wattpad and what a joy to see how it’s grown 💗

This whole book was a huge epilogue which I loved, since there were so many characters I wanted to know more about post-Kane. I feel like there could be more to Kane and Claire’s final battle though, it felt too fast to me. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this. What a satisfying end to the series!

I love reading about the next generation too. Gosh, Claire & Talon’s children feel like my children as well. They’ve all grown so much 😭

I hope there will be more books about the future generation of Dragonwall. I would be interested to learn more about the first Drengr female & sprite hybrid. Love them all so much.

I absolutely loved this series. I waited until I read all 7 before leaving a rating on any to get a full view. I knew after the first one I was going to love it, but I had no idea just how much. This is one of those series that you wish you were able to restart again and again and reread not knowing what happens. I loved the writing style, balance, storytelling, and development in these books. I’m glad that book 7 wrapped very characters story up and allowed the reader to have a look into how their lives played out.

Great end to a fantastic series

The perfect bow on a beautiful present. Everything was wrapped up nicely and the many characters were all given a nice end. My only complaint is that this book mostly reads like a super long epilogue, but with so many characters and storylines, I don’t know if anything else would have worked.

Loved this whole series

I loved everyone in this series, Claire was great and talon. This is a must read for lovers of dragons and sprites. The world created was so good and everyone of the Shields were amazing.

I wonder if we will get the story of Talon and Claire's children. Goid job and thanks for the entertainment.

When I started Talon the Black, I did not realize this was a 7 book series. I probably wouldn't have started it if I had, so I'm SO glad I didn't know, because I loved this whole story. The characters are wonderful and after thousands of pages, feel like family members. I loved the fourteen epilogues to give closure to all of the parts of the story!

Great finish to a great series!

This was such a great series! Everything was wrapped up with a neat little bow. I appreciate the final epilogues and if there's ever a series on the next generation I would definitely read it!

I loves all of the other books but this was less plot and more tying up loose ends. But this is prolly one of my favorite series.

This would have been 4 stars, but 14 epilogues was ridiculous and boring. Plus, most of the book wasn't about Dallin.
