I'm a reader, first and foremost. Just like everyone else.

I love books that are just out there. From fluffy to pitch-black darkness. Monsters and aliens to the men who haunt your dreams painting the walls in red.

My love for reading and writing reviews has led me down the road of becoming a writer myself, thanks to the encouragement of others!

I'm not sure where this journey will lead me, but I hope I can breathe life into words the way so many others have done for me when I needed an escape.

Ohhh this was awesome. Darkly suspenseful, thriller and horror vibes topped off with feminine rage. I loved the defiant transformation from victim to avenger. These bite sized stories packed a punch and were extremely satisfying to read. This is full of story after story that were literal page turners that had me up much later than I should have been because I couldn’t stop reading!

This dark little snack plate of short stories had me hooked. Fallen angels, shadowy twists, and a touch of spice in every single one—there’s seriously a bit of everything here. If you like your reads quick, sinful, and impossible to put down, this one delivers.

First off, I love the link to mental health services in the trigger warning section. I usually have no triggers but I love the care that’s put into books when the authors care about the readers like this.

The throat beneath their fangs, Sinclair Eaves-
This story was utterly terrifying from the very first chapter. I loved that the chapter numbers counted backwards, i’ve never seen that before, and this is an example of simple details making the story that much better. I cannot express how much getting stuck in my head is a huge fear for me & seeing an example of what that could look like was mind-blowing. I totally get how Hope feels like she’s losing her mind. I don’t want to spoil anything but DANG…how terrifying and intense that journey was for Hope…Poor Stray, he’s such a good boy. I can’t wait to read the full stories coming soon for these MMC.

The meteor, Rose Bitterly-
This is my first book/story by this author and I am not at all disappointed. I loved how different a Fallen was described in this story and I loved the slow build corruption and sin…I could totally read more of these two, can I beg for a full length novel?!?

Fallen: Darkness Ascending Volume 1 is an anthology of 7 books all revolving around fallen angels.

It has been an interesting experience to say the least. I loved fallen angels back when I first started getting into reading.
This takes it to another level. There was a lot that I like about it and there was a bit that I disliked. However, the nice thing about the anthology, is that I could skip over what wasn’t for me without it impacting my reading experience.

Overall this was a 3 star read for me.
1. The Throat Beneath Their Fangs - gives silent hill vibes
2. The Meteor - more traditional fallen angel vibes. Will hold a special place in my heart for that.
3. In Darkness We Rise - kickass story
4. Sovereign - DNF, the writing was too flowery for me
5. Veinfire - different take on fallen angels. I really didn’t ever think they had fangs but I’m okay with it.
6. Wicked Demise -DNF. The story wasn’t for me, but I can’t give much more than that without spoiling it. I also didn’t vibe with the writing style.
7. Covered Stellae - honestly an epic finale to this anthology. It is probably the book next to In Darkness We Rise that I would recommend to pretty much any dark romance reader.

Thank you to The Plot and Petals Team for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Fallen is an anthology packed to the brim with dark, twisted stories that are perfect for horror lovers and those who enjoy twisted, steamy, drama. Each story is unique and brings you a different voice that will have you craving more. Author Yd La Mar especially weaves a twisted tale of an entity locked away, but looking for a way back. Mayang is looking for answers in a remote village after the passing of certain family members. They warned her...don't go looking. Don't seek things you don't understand, because acceptance isn't always spoken. She doesn't heed those warnings, and what is unleashed on the world...it's something sinister.

Such an amazing anthology book filled with delicious, sinful reads about fallen angels. Each story brings you on an adventure, weather you in up in a bed with three bonded fallen angels or manipulation to rule the world at everyone else’s downfall. Each story had its own spot in the light and i really enjoyed how differently dark they are. I look forward too seeing more from all these authors.

I loved how unique each story was some were shorter then others and impossible to put down. I loved how each story had its own unique spin to it and fun in their own way. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when picking this but I don't regret it one bit it was deliciously dark and had me intrigued to keep reading.

So it’s not one big book with one story. There’s multiple which was cool but I had moments where it took a while to connect and invest myself but they weren’t bad. If you’re looking for the spicy then this is for you! The stories are interesting I’ll give it that!

ARC provided by the PR team in exchange for an honest review

Omg, I was sooo excited when I got this as an ARC 🥹💌 At first I totally thought it was gonna be one big story, but turns out it’s a bunch of different ones and honestly? Obsessed. Each story has its own little ✨flavor✨ and they’re all fun in their own way.

Laphriel & Natasha’s story? Ugh, chef’s kiss bc def my fave out of the whole bunch 💕 It had me kicking my feet and giggling but also fanning myself fr 😮‍💨.

The Meteor… like HELLO?! 1000% spicy 🌶️ and 100% captivating. I was hooked from page one (Natasha and Laphriel).

Overall, this book is giving: spicy across the board, totally paranormal, and sooo many juicy demon vibes 😈✨ If you’re into spice + demons + dark romancey fun, this one’s calling your name 💖

1. Sinclair Eaves “The Throat Beneath Their Fangs” - 2 ⭐⭐ MMF

Back then I didn’t know I was in hell. I thought if I stayed still and breathed calm and quiet and kept hidden, eventually the images would go away and I’d be back in my classroom or at home.

That’s what’s happening here. I’m Eve in a tropical garden, surrounded by passionflower vines, and he’s the serpent offering me a bite of knowledge.

Maybe there were space fumes, or something, in all that weird smoke. Maybe once I’ve gotten out of here, I’ll find an ordinary meteor sinking into the front yard, cool enough to touch.

7. YD La Mar “Cineres Stellae” - 3⭐
An interesting concept, and not as brutalized as previous stories. It was readable without stomach upset... a tasteless joke to end this torturous reading.

MAYANG "HANA" BINTI - cultural anthropologist and mythographer from Singapore. He arrives in Baracinesti, a village in the Carpathian Mountains on behalf of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) with a project of comparative research on folklore.

But silence doesn’t give you answers.
It only gives you space for the questions to get louder.

There’s something no one tells you about being haunted.
It’s not the screaming. Not the shadows. Not the bloody hallucinations or voices in your head. Those, you can brace for. Those are noise.
The real horror is the silence between.
The way your own thoughts begin to feel like foreign invaders. How the memory of your mother’s voice comes through sounding like him. How even when you pray, you’re not sure who’s listening.

TROPS :
Triggers include but are not limited to descriptive cultic themes, gore, dismemberment and decapitation, violence, massacres, choking, biting, horrific body contortions, toxic gaslighting, plagues over children, explicit sexual scenes, burning and combustion of human flesh, themes that may be disturbing to some readers.

TO SUM UP :
This is not my cup.
I feel disgust and a waste of time. 🤦‍♀️
I'll consider this an unpleasant reading experience.
I definitely won't be picking up the sequel, if one ever comes out.😏

Got the chance to read In Darkness We Rise (by R.E. Johnson) and OMG YES.
R.E. has always been fantastic about sucking me into a story and keeping me there, from start to finish. This piece even had me giggling. I'm so attached to the characters that it's not even funny. I NEED more of them.
For this piece, we meet Faith. Someone who has been followed around by bad luck -- almost like a bad omen, if you will. She has no idea and, for a while, she was just living life the best she could. Until a major incident snatches a consistency from her and she hits a new low.
In comes Simiel -- one of the Fallen that legit had me snickering like a school girl. He's got some serious sass -- not to mention performs some playful banter with the others -- that I couldn't get enough of. He was an IMMEDIATE favorite.
Xathanael is cranky -- and that is legit part of the charm. XD. They are, quite literally, a tough nut to crack. I can't really blame them for being so grumpy. They have their reasons. It certainly doesn't change how fiercely loyal they are and I LOVE the lengths they'll go to to protect the others.
I absolutely loved Cadriel, too! His personality was the perfect balance between the other two. All of them together in this piece was *chef's kiss*. I REALLY hope R.E. will expand on this world, because I couldn't get enough of it! I would LOVE to get lost in it again! The drama, the action, the SPICE. R.E. always gives a beautiful mix of them and I'm so here for it.
OBVIOUSLY I recommend R.E.'s piece and the WHOLE anthology!!
Still reading on the other pieces, but I've loved it all so far and I'm super excited to read everyone's piece!!

Sovereign (one of the tales in this anthology) is a gripping, gorgeously written story that holds you from start to end. Uradri and Indrath are two diametrically opposed celestial beings who can’t help but collide again and again, and each time they do is like two hurricanes smashing together. The result is pure, delicious tempest.

Their viewpoints are completely incompatible, yet their reasons ring with truth. I’ve seldom seen a better crafted depiction of celestials whose positions on freedom (chaos), order, good, and evil form the core of their beings, yet as characters remain people I can relate to on a human level. Which makes it all the more painful that they’re incapable of conceding an inch of their ground.

But don’t let this talk of viewpoints make you dismiss the story as something high-concept. Far from it! The beauty of Sovereign is how it’s woven from a premise that’s easy to sink your teeth into from the get-go, and effortlessly conjures concepts without breaking from the story’s driving plot. There’s love, hate, betrayal, hope, tragedy, and triumph. There’s horror that sent a shiver down my spine. And there’s a whole lot of the steam that Etaski does so well!

Read it because it’s written by a woman who’s a master of storytelling. Read it because it’s going to make you feel something. Read it because it’s just so damn fun!

I originally picked up this anthology because of Y.D. La Mar. I first discovered them in another anthology, where they had a short story. And not only did their story in that anthology not disappoint, but this one didn’t disappoint either. What I like about anthologies is that you also get introduced to some new authors as well.

Cineres Stellae by YD La Mar focuses on a young girl as she goes to a small village following in her mother's footsteps. After being warned, she still continues and gets pulled into something she doesn't quite understand. As she feels herself start to change, she realises too late that she should have listened to her mother and everyone that warned her, yet her destination was inevitable; it was written in her bones. La Mar has a knack for writing stories both dark and twisted that leave you craving more, wanting to be consumed by the darkness.

Some of the stories had me questioning myself on why I enjoyed some of the dark and twisted things that happened to the characters, whilst others scratched an itch with some fated mates. If you’re looking for something a little different, then this book covers it all.

Amazing how the different author’s mind work, in this selection of short stories, “The Throat Beneath Their Fangs”, “The Meteor”, “In Darkness We Rise”, Sovereign” “Veinfire”, “Wicked Demise”, and “Cineres Stella” may I say are very dark stories about demons, and fallen angels that interact with humanness. There is to me an underlining need about wanting compliance or to give up your will or how they strive to convince one to give in and give them what they want. All the stories are intense I enjoyed them all, however, I really liked the story “Veinfire” as it unfolds Nhialii has survived a horrible relationship to start a new life and how a person who thought women were of no importance and what he did to them. In a surprise twist, Nhialii was able to turn the tables on him. I bet it is not how you are thinking. I liked the story of “Wicked Demise”, darn cliff hanger. So, if you are in to some darkness, and wicked not necessarily normal twists. Do read this book.

Incredibly written anthology

This anthology is written by 7 different authors each with a story about different fallen beings. Each of the stories is horrifying but keeps you biting your teeth while finishing. I really enjoyed reading them even though some of them scared me half to death!!!

One of the stories, Cineras Stellae, was amazing. YD La Mar writes fantastic, mind-boggling books, and this short story was so gripping. The FMC, Mayang who is an anthropologist, goes to discover exactly what her mother was afraid of before she died – even though her mother was crazy. When she arrives, she discovers that there is something MUCH darker that she was always warned about that resides under the town. And this fallen has been waiting just for her… and now that he has her in his grip, he plans to never let go.

Definitely a must read anthology if you like darker, edge of your seats, and thrilling stories!

Fallen: Darkness Ascending Vol. 1 is a multi-author work of romantic horror stories centered on Fallen Angels.

I have only finished one story and it didn't disappoint. As I finish the rest I will update with more individual reviews.

Cineres Stellae by YD La Mar focuses on a young girl as she goes to a small village following in her mother's footsteps. After being warned she continues to be pulled into something she doesn't quite understand. As she feels herself start to change, she realizes too late, she should have listened to her mother and the villagers, yet her destination was inevitable, written in her bones. La Mar has a knack for writing stories both dark and twisted that leave you craving more, wanting to be consumed by the darkness.

If you are sensitive to certain content and themes I suggest reading the courtesy warning as the genre horror romance is often very dark and explicit in more ways than $ex.

This anthology is dark, thrilling, suspenseful & exciting. It’s full of twist, feminine rage & spice. The reads are short quick & full of sins, it will be impossible to put down.

If you want spice, horror, gore & dark themes this is you sign to snatch this book up and give it a read you won’t be let down, you are sure to find you thing wether is be fallen angles, demons or just humans.

R.E. Johnson “In Darkness We Rise” what can o say I love me some R.E Johnson, this one might not be for you it’s had me laughing a bit with the drama but boy was is spicy.

YD La Mar “Cineres Stellae” what an interesting concepts it’s a perfectly spooky season read
Mayang goes to find out what exactly her mother was scared of before she died. Even is he was crazy.. what she’s finds is darker than she could have thought & it’s been waiting for her.
There is spice, forbidden attraction.

I got only the novella Veinfire by Sienna Rae as an ARC copy. Spoilerish… That being said, reading some of the ways Eddie talks about women was difficult but done from the perspective of the book to show insight into the true work of evil that man was. I hope that with the longer book we get to see the MC show they still have softness at least when it comes to Cheeto. I need to know that damn cat is taken care of even in this fictional world. But short and sweet this is a story about retribution for those who hardly ever get to experience it.

I’m unsure about the rest of the stories in this book as I only received the one, but the one I did get makes me want to get the book to check out more new authors for my collection!

HOLY MOLY!!

Check all author's content warnings before reading.
This anthology was a lot. It won't be for everyone.
I enjoyed it but I definitely had to be in my own right frame of mind.
Each story was different but centred around the theme of fallen angels.
Lots of spice, dark topics and feminine rage (love that).

*FALLEN by Y.D. La Mar
I really enjoyed this story. It won't be everyone's cup of tea.
I love stories where the main character should have left something, well enough, alone but don't.
It's dark, dark (check content warnings) but not the author's darkest story.
It could be a good place to start if this is a new to you author and you're curious.

This is an anthology.

There are 7 short stories that tell tales of different fallen beings.

I really enjoyed reading all of these stories.
I originally came to know of this project because I've read some of the books from one of the authors that is featured in this series of fallen tales.

All the short stories have their own trigger warnings, so please pay close attention to them and enjoy each story that you read.

Most of the stories are on the darker side, and you'll soon know why they are the fallen.

These stories were short and all had a little spice, and there is a little something for everyone! They were all centered on Fallen angels, and I really enjoyed the different takes. With different versions of dark, this whole book was a little adventure for me. Multiple stories, with different styles, and authors, and I enjoyed them all! Even though the stories are a little on the shorter side, they definitely pack in the depth, and I love how they each touch on their versions of paranormal. Great read!

This book is a chilling anthology of short stories where fallen angels, dark pacts, and twisted deeds take centre stage. Each tale is unique, pulling you deeper into shadows of horror, temptation, and drama. Perfect for fans who like their horror with a mix of gore, spice, and unforgettable characters.
One standout for me was Yd La Mar’s story about Mayang, who searches for answers in a remote village despite warnings not to. What she unleashes is truly sinister.
A great collection to read one story at a time or better yet binge all in one go.

(Veinfire by Sienna Rae) While some of Eddie’s dialogue about women was hard to read, it was clearly meant to highlight his cruelty and evil. I’m hoping the full-length version will show the main character’s softer side, especially regarding Cheeto the cat—I need to know that little guy is safe!! Overall, it’s a sharp, dark story of retribution for those who rarely get it. Even though I only read this one novella, it definitely makes me want

Fallen: Darkness Ascending is an anthology of deliciously dark tales of fallen angels. I loved that each of the seven tales had a different take on the genre. Even though I enjoyed some of the stories more than the others, I appreciated each story. And the spice in these stories were hotter than hades. Since these are dark romance stories, I do recommend checking the warnings before reading. Thanks Plot & Petal team for giving me an opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This collection is packed with unique stories that have one thing in common, they all focus on the Fallen. The rest is really a matter for each specific story. Cineres Stellae
By YD LaMar

Wow! A perfect spooky season read. This has such a dark ominous feel to it. How eerily the town and its inhabitants ere described gave me the creeps.

Incredibly well written and the story kept me engaged.

Solareth the ancient being the town is harboring. He is terrifying. He and Mayang are drawn together. The heat and forbidden nature of her attraction to him alarms and arouses her at the same time.
