Discover a passionate journey where stereotypes are shattered and love knows no boundaries. Chris Hodak, a former college football defensive lineman, never expected to find himself in the depths of an unspoken desire. Haunted by a fumbling make-out session with his hunky teammate Rohan Moore, Chris always believed that big, burly football players couldn't be gay. Now, two decades later, Chris, in his forties, comes face to face with Rohan once again. But this time, Rohan is an out and proud big, gay hairy bear, owning a barber shop exclusively for bears. Though still as breathtaking as ever, Rohan has no interest in Chris due to his aversion to closeted men. Yet, as Chris settles into Rohan's chair for a shave and a haircut, the flame of their connection reignites. To win back Rohan's heart, Chris must summon the courage and resilience that surpasses any challenge he faced on the football field. Rough Cut is a captivating tale that launches the Bearland Tales series, each book capable of standing alone. Prepare for a contemporary interracial erotic gay romance, rich in raw passion and explicit encounters, exclusively tailored for adult readers.

I started writing gay male erotic romance stories in the early '90s, but only gay male porn magazines would publish them. I'm so glad things have gotten more respectable and the readership more broad. I am a lesbian in an interracial same-sex marriage, and I love writing interracial romance stories. I love flipping stereotypes and challenging myself to write characters that are ever further from who I am. I hope you enjoy my stories. I certainly love writing them.

I’ve read this author before. This is a mm story. Main characters are Chris and Rohan. Told from Chris’s POV. Older man who meet again after many years. They knew each other in college. Good story but abrupt end.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.25 stars

We first get the impression that Chris and Rohan are passing acquaintances, but it turns out they had more going on, at least for one night in high school. They have memories of the night when they fooled around in Chris’ truck, but being a gay high school football player in the 70s was dangerous, which made their decision to pretend nothing happened the only viable option at the time.

Chris’ lunch with his mother on the day Chris is to have a haircut with Rohan was super funny, and definitely one of the highlights of the story, especially when she tells Chris “I said you’re vibrating…” “Not the blasted phone. You. You are vibrating!” It’s a sure sign that the reunion means more to Chris than he is letting on and that his mother is not as oblivious as he thinks.

This was a cute story. The characters were cute, the premise was also cute, and there was virtually no conflict. Rough Cut gives a different slant on bears, since both Chris and Rohan behaved in a sweet, snuggly teddy bear kind of way. In fact, I was shocked when I found out that Chris was 6′ 7″ tall and 275 lb since his behavior is described as bouncy and twitchy, and sounded (sorry for the stereotype) short and wiry.

I will most likely re-read Rough Cut in the future when I am tired after a busy day and in the mood for something light and fluffy.

Not quite 3 stars, but rounded up.
This is the first in the Bearland Tales series but the last that I read. I was not my favorite. I just can not get used to the author’s writing style; very overly descriptive and repetative. One thing that draws me to this author is that she so often features mature main characters instead of twinks and twenty-somethings. But then it falls apart when the characters behave and speak like anything but mature men. Chris was so afraid of coming out, even though everybody knew, that he only engaged in anonymous encounters. His constant “this is what it’s like” moments when he finally go together with Rohan really zapped the scene any heat or romance. I can’t even say this ends on a HFN ending because there was such a lack of heat or chemistry that I wouldn’t think the relationship would last.

Very cute!

As far as I’m concerned, you can’t go wrong with two hunky bears! Yum! This us a cute meeting of two people who knew each other back in school and find each other again some years later.

I love hunky bears and this short story had two big gorgeous ones. Chris and Rohan meet again many years after their school and football years, sparks fly. A cute short, one man out and proud and the other many years in the closet, or so he thought.

Second chance lovers

Sadly too short, lovely story of the people reconnecting after a couple of decades, and realising then was a bad time but now is ideal.

As short stories goes I really enjoyed this one. I rate this this story with 3.5 stars

Chris finally got the courage and goes to see Rohan a former football payer as himself. Rohan is a hair dresser.
They are both muscle bears, with some gray hairs on the chest, they collapse finally and seems that Chris finds he's HFN…

****I would like to thank the author for the privilege and opportunity of reading this ARC. My review is an honest opinion of the book****
