This short story takes place between books 2.5 and 3 in the Sensor Series. It’s New Year’s Eve and Melena Sanders is hoping she can survive the night without any more trouble in her life. But then her adopted teenage daughter, Emily, confesses to a prank gone wrong. Now her young werewolf admirer is caught in a trap on a full moon. Melena’s got to figure out fast how to rescue him without either of them getting bitten in the process. Of course, nothing ever goes quite how she plans… Word 12,000 (approximate)
Susan Illene served in the US Army for eleven years and worked as a human resources specialist and an Arabic linguist. She served two deployments to Iraq, and after leaving the army, she studied history at the University of Oklahoma. She currently lives with her husband and two sons.
Teen Boy, Teen Girl alone in the woods, what could possibly go wrong.... yea right it's not a fairy tale..
This review is from: Tempting the Moon: A Sensor Short Story (Sensor Series) (Kindle Edition)
Sorry some spoilers.. But this is a GREAT story for tweens and teens and of course Adults. A near 16 yr old girl and near 18 yr old boy add a little bit of payback for a joke and you have a recipe for disaster, never mind she is a sensor and he is a Lycan. Throw in a bear trap and the night before the full moon and sparks fly.. A Foster Mom being dragged into a rescue attempt and they finally think things will be fine. Then the next morning the boy still hasn't made it home. This is really a bomb ready to go off...they were the last to be with the boy, it's Alaska, and overnight things look grim. Once they find him he needs emergency help just to get out of the danger he's tumbled into. Susan Illene captures teens perfectly..and her characters are not only real but believable to the reader you can just picture this as if it was a movie in your mind. The short story just flows beautifully, and thankfully the bitten don't turn, the Alpha doesn't demand retribution, and everyone comes out without major damage, which again when dealing with teens is always a plus! Would recommend anytime for any age but the very young, and that can be read to them and just skip some details, it gives a great life lesson.
Emily attempts to seduce Hunter as part of a prank, only for the prank to go horribly wrong when the young werewolf gets his leg caught in a bear trap. If those were the only consequences of the prank, then it might not have been so bad, as it is two people almost end up dying.
This is a cute little side-story but not necessarily as ‘unmissable’ as I would say the other two novellas 2.5 and 3.5) for this series are. That said, something important does happen to Melena in this story, and we do get to see what Emily’s werewolf problem is really all about (the one mentioned in Chained by Darkness). If you’re one of Susan Illene’s Dark Avenger (that’s her fan page on facebook) then this is a must read. If you’re not, well, I still suggest you read it should time and funds allow you.
Another terrific story in the Sensor Series. This one brings the tumultuous beginning of Emily and Hunter’s relationship. I loved it and recommend you read them all.
Melena runs head over heels in to danger again when a teenage prank goes wrong. Emily plays a prank on the teenage werewolf Hunter. The outcome is not good.
