He's been in my house.

He's taken my children.

What am I to do?

Vicki has done everything to protect her children. Their father was out of control – every day, his life embroiled in lies, drugs, chaos. So she cut him off, for good.

But when she comes home to a distraught babysitter, panic hits.

The kids are gone. And Lee says he’s not bringing them back.

Vicki can see how he persuaded the babysitter – Jess is young. Naïve. Easy to manipulate. The perfect pawn in his twisted plan.

But then Jess disappears too.

Is this just a father trying to take back what’s his? Or has something much darker wormed its way into her perfect family?

From the bestselling author of Missing comes an unmissable story of a mother's strength, a family's secrets and the neverending question just who can you trust?!

My Thoughts:
Stolen is the story of Vicki, a mum of two, her ex-husband Lee, and new beau Marc. Vicki and Lee's marriage broke down after his struggles with addiction, and Marc seems to be everything Vicki needs for a happy ever after. Lee is desperate to see his children, and while they are with their babysitter, Jess, he takes them. Vicki races across the country to try and get them back, but then Jess also disappears. This was a dark, disturbing read full of manipulation and distrust. .The added mystery surrounding Jess, the young babysitter, adds another unsettling layer that kept me guessing. Is Jess a victim, an accomplice. This is a chilling story about relationships, friendships, and family.

This is a tense, fast-paced psychological thriller that wastes no time pulling you straight into Vicki’s panic and heartbreak. The premise is instantly chilling: a mother who has done everything to protect her children comes home to find them gone—taken by the very man she’s been trying to escape. From that moment, the story barely lets up.

Speechley excels at capturing the raw fear and confusion Vicki experiences as she tries to untangle what Lee really wants and how far he’s willing to go. The added mystery surrounding Jess, the young babysitter, adds another unsettling layer that kept me guessing. Is Jess a victim, an accomplice, or something else entirely? The shifting loyalties and blurred trust lines make this an engaging read from start to finish.

The pacing is strong, with short, snappy chapters that build momentum and tension. While a few twists were slightly predictable, the emotional stakes remained high, and the unraveling of Lee’s manipulations was compelling. Vicki’s desperation, guilt, and fierce determination felt authentic and kept me firmly invested in her journey.

A mother believing that she is keeping her children safe from their father suspected of drug use. The situation is complicated by her relationship with her boss while separated from her husband. When the husband takes the children with him, the chase is on to get the children back. Does the disappearance of her babysitter have any bearing on the matter? How well does she really know the people in her life?
Multiple points of view presented in this tense thriller.
