Clover Ridge Cowboys #3

Leashed Hearts: A Small Town MM Romance

Rate this book
The last thing I expected when I moved to a small town was to be taken out by a cupcake stand… or for my dog to drag me straight into the arms of the town’s most charming contractor.

I moved here for quiet and the chance to figure out my life. What I got was a Great Dane who sows chaos everywhere he goes, a town full of meddling matchmakers, and cowboy Gray Hale -- stubborn, grounded, and impossibly kissable. He should be off-limits; after all, I’ve never fallen for a man before. But the more we hike, trade trivia-night trash talk, and steal kisses that leave me dizzy, the harder it becomes to stay away.

This doesn’t feel like a mistake. It feels like home.

Leashed Hearts is a steamy, laugh-out-loud opposites attract MM romance with lots of banter, rich boy/poor boy sparks, a slow burn bisexual awakening, and a happily ever after that’s sweeter than cupcake frosting.

Leashed Hearts is book three in the Clover Ridge Cowboys series by Andy Rogue. I’ve really been enjoying this series but this one might be my favorite so far. These characters were just so adorable. If you add in one ornery Great Dane who leaves behind chaos wherever he goes, you’ve got a wonderful, swoony story.

Adrian Bishop is thirty seven years old. He has been living in Seattle but after his girl friend broke off a five year relationship, he decided he wanted a fresh start in a small town where he could try to figure out what his future was going to look like. For company, he adopted a huge Great Dane who had zero manners and loves trouble.

Gray Hale, one of the three Hale brothers, is Clover Ridge’s only licensed contractor. He also helps out on the family ranch when he can. Gray was happily single, not looking for love. But you know what happens when you’re not looking!!!

Our story starts on St. Patrick’s Day at the town festival. It seems taking a misbehaving Great Dane named Beast to the town’s biggest event of the year might not have been such a great idea. It seems that Beast had a craving for some St. Patrick’s Day cupcakes. In the ensuing chaos, he managed to wrap up his owner, Adrian and Gray with his leash, helping the two men with a very intimate introduction. It’s a meet cute for the ages.

Adrian has never been attracted to a man before but he can’t help but feel the sparks flying between he and Gray. Poor Gray is instantly smitten. He spends his days thinking of reasons to text Adrian and thinking of seemingly innocent things they can do together. Adrian feels the chemistry but he’s still smarting from his break up.

These two were clearly meant for each other. Of course the town’s residents feel the need to get involved and help them out a bit. This was a short, sweet, fun and swoony story that will leave you with a smile. There is one more book in this series, the Hale’s ranch hand, Tommy’s book, Give Me a Shot. I can’t wait to read it.

I wish this book was longer, and while it's absolutely unrealistic for a story to contain both a bi-awakening and an insta-love trope, it was a cute story with characters I liked. It does need a better editing job though. Also, there was a continuity issue between how the previous book ended and how this one started. In addition, I'm lodging a complaint about how the cover makes it look like there are two dogs in this book when there's just one although Beast really is enough of a disaster on his own.

When a gay man and a straight man met and feel something, that's the recipe for a wonderful, sexy tale. Gay Gray is instantly taken by the newcomer, straight Adrian is truly thrown into mental chaos by these new feelings. It's a shortish but angsty tale. I didn't realize that this was part of a series, one of which I had already read, discovering this had me wanting even more of these brothers and their love lives. Also we must not forget the Beast.

Not as strong as the other books so far and there’s an entire part that creates an “issue” that is missing from the story - even though it’s a huge plot line (it gets briefly discussed which is the only reason you know that it happened)

It did feel like a very copy and paste formula with no real huge differences other than there was a gorgeous pet dog.

I didn’t hate the story - just not as strong. I’m in love with the family dynamic though. So wholesome and country.

Again, the time lines and details don't match the events mentioned in the previous books. Also, there's a scene mentioned during the third act breakup, that I don't remember reading, that is the reason for the breakup. Maybe the author planned on adding it but didn't, I don't know. It's chaotic at best.

Charming short-ish book - not quite a novella but not long. Similar to an earlier book I read in the series - low angst, sweet romance with a small town cast of characters.

A few spots in the book where I think the author mixed up who was supposed to be saying what. And the cover seems to have a few errors. One dog in the story, two dogs shown on the cover - neither of them a Great Dane.

well Written Sequel

This was a humorous and fun installment for the series. Our MCs had all they could handle in their rambunctious, extremely friendly young great dane. Good character development, interesting plot with a slowly developing relationship. No angst, no drama, just two unsure individuals managing to find their joint future happy ending.

This is a short, light, and quick read. It could be a good choice for passing time at the airport or waiting for an appointment. Characters had no depth and there wasn't much of a plot. Since the characters were so underdeveloped, I wasn't convinced about their instant love.
