A Simple Request

Rate this book
Collin

I’m not a fan of change. So, when I hear the old bar I work at a couple of nights a week has sold, I wonder if it’s time for me to give up that side gig. It’s not like I need the cash. My job as a full-time firefighter is more than enough to keep me comfortable and plenty busy.

Then I meet the new owner, my new boss, Lizzie Meyer.

She makes me a deal: give her thirty days. If I don’t like the direction she takes the place, I can quit. Simple, right? But nothing feels simple once I’m around her. I try to ignore the pull, but her easy smile, hypnotic green eyes, and that stubborn streak wrapped in determination makes it impossible. The line between professional and personal is clear…until it isn’t.

Just when something real starts to take shape between us, my past stirs—ready to drag its way back into the light and threaten everything we’re beginning to build together.

Lizzie

I’ve spent years dreaming of a place to call my own. Growing up inside the biggest bar and restaurant in my hometown, I learned early on what my calling was. But lately, I’ve wanted something more. Something that isn’t tied to my family’s legacy. I want to build my own.

That dream leads me to Cooper Town, Ohio, a quaint small town with an old bar for sale and enough possibility to make me pack up my life and take a chance.

I know it will take hard work to bring the place back to life, and I’ve got the drive, the grit, and a modest savings account to get started. What I’m not prepared for is Collin Miller, the brooding bartender with a rare, disarming smile and a work ethic that mirrors my own. He’s impossible to ignore, even harder to resist. I try to keep things strictly professional, really, I do, but being around him feels like standing too close to a flame.

My simple request is that he doesn’t break my heart along the way.

Avid reader, writer, mother, and wife! I love to read contemporary romance. Add in a little "spice" or hot guys in uniform pants, and I'm a happy woman. There's just something about diving into a book and engrossing in the magic of your hero and heroine getting their happily ever after.

Hmmmm, I’m trying to figure where to start with my review. So, I’ll just start with the thoughts I had before reading ‘A Simple Request’ ; I was so, so excited for a brand new series and characters from this author. I am always sad letting past characters go, but I was happily surprised by the familiar faces. It was almost like seeing a friend after a long time, and that I was not expecting.

I thoroughly enjoyed Lizzie and Collin as characters. They were some of the most authentic characters I’ve read about in quite a while. They knew who they were and did not deviate away from their true selves. Both devoted to their careers that they always dreamed of. I enjoyed the blue collar lifestyle they both had. It made them extremely relatable. They were genuinely good people with amazing qualities. No negative Nancy energy from either. I loved, loved, loved how much both Lizzie and Collin were so family oriented. I love how involved both of their them were in the day to day lives of their family members.

I do feel like Lizzie and Collins chemistry was off of the charts. Their feelings felt very real from beginning to end. Not only did their inner and outer dialogue showcase that, but their actions did as well.

Now for the part I hate. I truly, truly was falling fast first into ‘A Simple Request’ when it felt like all the sudden the book was just over, even with the epilogues. If I’m honest, I felt like the storyline was just getting started. I felt like Lizzie and Collin was just getting into the thick of what was a relationship. I thought the subplot was one of the biggest points of this book, and just nothing. Granted, it made for no third act breakup, but it left this story lacking in my opinion. I guess I just expected more.

Even though in my opinion this story was lacking, I do think that this series (‘Cooper Town Boys’) is super promising.I look forward to the rest of this series. I think some of these heroes are gonna surprise the living h e double hockey sticks out of me. I am super fluffing excited for Cades story. I can guarantee his is gonna blow my mind because, he’s truly one of a kind.

Lacey Black is back with a new series Cooper Town Boys.

A simple request has some old favourites to start us out. If you’re a Burgers and Brew fan you’ll be super happy to see the crew and we get plenty of glimpses of them because his is Lizzie Meyer’s love story. Kind of fitting since her dad Walker Meyer was the first in the burgers and brew series to fall in love and now it’s Lizzie’s turn.

Clearly Lizzie is not the Copper Town Boy. No, that role belongs to Colin Miller. He’s a full time firefighter and near by Sycamore but in his days off he’s always out in some hours at the local dive bar. He’s got hero good guy written all over him with a slight grump vibe.

These two get all tangled up when Lizzie buys the dive bar with plans to bring it back to life. For Colin that could mean ruining a place that he’s worked at and been a patron of for a long time and change isn’t always a good thing in his book.

But before he even realises who she is he’s attracted. Fining out she’s the new owner squashes that a little and when it flares back to life the complication of being boss and employee only further confuses things.

Lizzie is pretty level headed and while Colin may have mixed feelings he doesn’t play games.

The biggest problem they face is crossing the working together line and one secret that could cause a rift. It’s not huge but of course in the wrong hands a secret can be destructive.

The side characters were good too. Particularly Colin’s family, Lizzie’s sister and the bar regulars. I’m sure we’ll see more of Colin’s family since I’m pretty sure they are part of the Cooper Townsville Boys but I hope there are more from the other too. Who knows the burgers and brew crew might come back too.

Overall, good start the a new series and a great idea to have characters we already know well. I’m looking forward to more from Copper Town.

Happy reading.

Cooper Town Boys Book 1

Collin and Lizzie

For all the Burgers and Brew Crüe fans, we finally get Lizzie’s story. Lizzie is Walker and Mallory Meyer’s daughter.

This is a separate series and a great way to start. It is interconnected but still a stand alone. Lizzie has grown up around the restaurant/bar world her whole life. Her father and uncles own a very popular and successful business together. And sure, she could have worked with them, and they taught her a lot, but she wanted a place of her own. So when a bar hit the market, about an hour away, she jumped on the chance and moved.

Collin is a full time firefighter and in his free time works at the local bar. He and his siblings grew up in the small town and he liked the vibe, and way of life around there. He also liked how they stayed the same, not being a fan of change. So you can imagine, he wasn’t thrilled to learn that his hometown bar was sold…to a non local. And the introduction to the new owner, didn't exactly go as planned.

Loved everything about this! We have watched Lizzie grow up and so excited to read her story. Love seeing her family and all the extended family. And now we get Collin’s family, who are equally loud, boisterous, and a lot of fun. Collin and Lizzie have chemistry from the start and love their interactions. Great start. Great world building and introductions to the Miller family. Look forward to reading more about them.

YES!!! A new series from one of my favourite authors AND the heroine is a familiar character from her Burgers & Brew Crüe series? Sign me up!!!! A Simple Request kicks off this series PERFECTLY with Lizzie Meyer (Walker and Mallory's daughter from Kickstart My Heart) realizing her dream of opening her own bar. She learned from the best, after all! When she finds an old bar in a small town about an hour away from home, she knows she's found something that she can turn into her dream! And, of course, the men from B & B will be there to help in any way they can! *sigh*

Collin Miller works at the bar a couple of nights a week (his main gig being a firefighter for Cooper Town) mainly to help out the previous owner. When he meets the NEW owner, Lizzie, his first thought is to give up the bartending thing. But Lizzie convinces him to give her a shot, 30 days, and if he doesn't like the direction she's taking the bar, he can quit. Simple, right? NOT! The very real chemistry between them is like a separate character! Soooooo hot! The regulars at the bar have a way of communicating what they see happening between them in such a way that is absolutely hilarious! The guys at the firehouse are no better once they all meet Lizzie themselves! The banter is top-notch!

Once again, Ms. Black has given us an incredible start to a series that I know will be AMAZING! A Simple Request is a MUST READ! Collin and Lizzie are right up there with my fave couples from Lacey!

Lacey brings her best in this start to a new series! Lizzie and Collin will steal your heart in this one! I loved it! 5 Cooper Town stars for this one!
Lizzie is all grown up, and buying her own bar, a dream she's had since she was young! And it's in a different town so she's not competing with the Burgers and Brew crew, her family bar, so it's a win! When she stops into the bar, she meets the bartender, Collin, who is crazy hot with amazing eyes! Of course he will be her employee with any luck, so she can't do this, even though it's how her parents met! But he's not happy about a new owner coming in and changing everything about the old place, and once she lets him know who she is, he's embarrassed to say the least! Can she win him over and keep him on staff, while fighting her attraction to him?
Collin is a full time firefighter, and works the bar when he's off from work. When he meets Lizzie, he can't believe how beautiful she is, and when he finds out she's the new owner, oh boy! He's definitely attracted to her, but he has to keep his hands to himself! He just wants to help her as best he can and agrees to give her thirty days to see if he likes her changes or not! But will he be able to just be her employee and not want to cross that line?
Lacey wrote one heck of a story here for these two! And I'm so invested in this new series I can't wait for the next book to come out! Grab this one asap!

A Simple Request is a heartfelt small-town romance that blends steady emotional growth with undeniable chemistry. Collin Miller is the kind of hero readers instantly gravitate toward—grounded, dependable, and quietly intense. A full-time firefighter who bartends on the side for familiarity more than money, Collin resists change with good reason, making his slow unraveling in the face of Lizzie Meyer all the more satisfying.
Lizzie is equally compelling: determined, hardworking, and brave enough to chase a dream that’s entirely her own. Her move to Cooper Town and purchase of the old bar feels authentic, rooted in passion rather than impulse. The push-and-pull between her vision for the bar and Collin’s attachment to the past creates natural tension, while their shared work ethic and mutual respect form a solid foundation for something deeper.
What truly elevates this story is its emotional balance. The romance simmers rather than explodes, allowing trust, vulnerability, and real stakes to take center stage—especially when Collin’s past resurfaces and threatens the fragile happiness they’re building. A Simple Request is a warm, engaging romance about taking chances, letting go of fear, and trusting that love can be worth the risk. Perfect for readers who love small-town settings, strong characters, and a romance that feels both tender and real.

A Simple Request is the kind of small-town romance that sneaks up on you, steals your heart, and confidently announces a must-read new series.

Lacey Black launches her brand-new Cooper Town Boys series with A Simple Request, and I’ll gladly put my romance-loving heart on the line and say she has a smash hit on her hands. This feels like the series to read this year—effortlessly charming, emotionally satisfying, and filled with that signature Lacey Black magic.

If you’ve read the Burgers & Brew series, you’ll love the connection here. Lizzie Meyer—daughter of Walker Meyer (yes, that Walker from Kickstart My Heart)—is all grown up and ready to make her own mark. This time, she’s buying the very bar Collin works in, bringing big dreams and fresh ideas to a small town that’s about to change… whether it’s ready or not.

Collin is a firefighter and part-time bartender who doesn’t like change one bit. He loves the simple things: Cooper Town, his job, his close-knit family—and those siblings? Absolute writing perfection. Their dynamic is seamless, warm, and adds so much heart to the story. So when Lizzie walks into his bar as the new owner, Collin is determined not to like her… but that instant, undeniable attraction has other plans.

The chemistry sparks immediately. The patrons adore her. His family welcomes her with open arms. And Collin finds himself falling harder every day, even as he fights it. Add in some perfectly placed cameos from the beloved Burgers & Brew crew, and this story becomes a rich, connected world that longtime readers will devour.

My one simple request? Don’t pass this one over. A Simple Request is small-town romance done right—and Cooper Town is officially a place I can’t wait to return to. 💛📚

Second generation stories always hit the mark especially when the parents are from my favorite series from Lacey! I really enjoyed this story and liked the characters and the banter and the big family on both sides. This is a light read, no big drama moments. I really needed a little lightness!

Collin and Lizzie come together when she takes over the bar he helps out at on his days off. Collin is a firefighter in his small town and when he can he lends his time to the bar that he loves. Lizzie is trying to make a name for herself and doing what she loves and knows. Growing up in a bar and shown by some of the best on how to run one, she plans her future. She did not plan to fall for an employee.

The characters were easy to like and down to earth. I liked the way both characters didn't really get into any drama and were pretty honest and open with each other. These two were definitely meant to meet and fall in love. The attraction was there as well as the comfort, something both of them needed.

My favorite part is both characters have big families and they definitely give each other a hard time and meddle a little.

I am excited for thes next book and look forward to what storyline will be brought to the next one...

5 SMOOCHES!

Lacey Black kicks off her new small-town/big-family centric Cooper Town Boys series with A Simple Request, a charming, slow-burn small-town romance that simmered with tension and tender moments. Lizzie, the independent and determined new owner of the town pub, arrives in Cooper Town to chase her dream of owning her own bar. She hired Collin, a firefighter in town, to work part-time as a bartender. Collin isn’t looking for a relationship and Lizzie was completely focused on her new business, but things got complicated quickly by the undeniable sparks flying between them.

Black used the forced proximity of their workplace dynamic to build that delicious, escalating chemistry that was turning every shared shift and lingering glance into a stepping stone toward something deeper. As their connection grew from respectful and professional to something fiercely passionate, the small-town setting added warmth and a sense of community that made their journey all the more engaging. Five smooches from me for Lacey Black’s A Simple Request!

A Heartwarming Start to a Promising New Series

I was so happy that Lizzie finally got her story, and Lacy Black did a wonderful job bringing it to life. Lizzie Meyer has achieved her dream of owning her own bar. In the process, she meets the broody bartender and firefighter, Collin Miller, who isn’t a fan of change and is skeptical about what Lizzie has planned for the old place. Their story is a sweet, small-town romance with the perfect slow burn, balanced by steamy moments and plenty of witty banter. I loved the cameo appearances from the Cruë gang and really enjoyed getting to know Collin’s family and friends along the way. Cade was absolutely hilarious, and I already can’t wait for his story. Overall, this book was well written and a fantastic start to a new series—easily a five-star read.
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book and am providing an honest and unbiased review. Despite receiving it for free, I have purchased the ebook version of this book, and already preordered the rest of the books in this series, for my Kindle.

Every one has a dream and for Lizzie she is about to make hers a reality. Yes it means moving away from her family even if it’s only an hour away to a small town called Copper Town. Which is the home town for Colin who likes things simple so when he finds out that the bar he helps out at is being sold Colin has to decide if he should stay working there or not, change isn’t easy for same folks least of all Colin so when he does meet the new owner the chemistry between Lizzie and Colin would definitely need help from the fire crew (Colin’s main job).
Lizzie convinces Colin to give her some time see what he thinks of the changes she intends to make unbeknownst to him Lizzie dad in none other then Walker Meyer so she has plenty of help and insight of how a bar work thanks to her dad and uncles.
How things work out is well worth the read for you to find out if you like small town HEA then read this book Lacey
Has given us a fab read and some lovely characters in this book that in looking forward to reading more about them.

What an incredible start to a series! It struck the perfect balance of introducing a new setting, fresh characters, and some familiar faces. I’ve always hoped for Lizzie’s story, and Lacey absolutely delivered. Lizzie is every bit a Meyer, and the first meeting between her and Collin was so well done—it perfectly highlighted how much she takes after Walker. There’s a whole new family to fall in love with, and Cade has to be my favourite so far. His one-liners were spot on, and I can’t wait to learn more about him because there’s definitely more to his story. Collin doesn’t quite know what to make of Lizzie at first, but I loved watching her prove him wrong at every turn. And when he falls, he falls hard. If you’re a fan of Burgers & Brew, you’ll love the cameos in this book—they brought back all the feels I had when I read the first book in that series. I’m so excited to see what’s in store for the rest of this series. A perfect beginning!

A simple Request from author Lacey Black is a brand new series starter to her new series The Cooper Town Boys. I love a good Second generation story and I ate this like candy.

Our FMC Lizzie Lou is all grown up. Lizzie is the daughter of Walker and Mallory from Burgers and Brew book 1 , Kick start my heart. She has just bought a local bar in Cooper Town and wants to put her touches on it , without her family’s money or influence, she wants to run it alone.

Collin, our MMC works as a fireman after a stint in the Air Force and also works at the bar on his off days. Collin isn’t a fan of change and loves the local bar. He’s not looking for love or a relationship but can’t help but being drawn to her.

Their attraction was fire and the way Collin would just help her even just showing up to make sure she ate and to take out the trash for her … well that’s a swoon worthy man right there.

I absolutely can’t wait to dig into more details about Collin’s family especially his twin brother Cade. He is so charismatic it personality but I think there’s more to him and look forward to him and the rest of the series.

Great start to a new family and if you were a fan of Burgers and Brew you will want to add this to your Tbr.

4.5⭐️ This is the first book in a new series, and I was ecstatic to discover it’s Lizzy’s story, the daughter from Kickstart My Heart. I loved all the cameos from the Burgers and Brew Crew series. While it’s connected, this can absolutely be read as a standalone… or read before or after Burgers and Brew Crew and enjoyed just as much.

I loved the pacing of this book. It struck the perfect balance between insta-attraction and a slow build to the first kiss. This is quintessential small-town romance, complete with strong family ties and lovable side characters.

This was a feel-good, low-angst comfort read. It was spicy without being too much, and I adored the connection between Lizzy and Collin, from their first meeting to the moment they finally give in to their attraction.

I can’t wait to see where this series goes.

A great start to this new series from Lacey Black and if you are a Burgers n Brew fan then you will already know dome of these characters as this is Lizzie and Collin's story.

Collin is a full time firefighter but puts in a few shift at the local bar. When he discovers his beloved bar has been sold he has no idea what to expect from the new owner. He likes things the way they are and he's not big on change but then he meets Lizzie.
Lizzie is the daughter of Walker one of the owners of Burgers n Brew, she wants to follow in her dad's footsteps but do it in her own way so buys a bar in Cooper Town. Things are a little frosty at first between Lizzie and Collin but as they get to know each other and spark begins to ignite could this be the start of something beautiful.

I loved this story, it was also like coming home, been able to catch up with characters from previous books. I cannot wait to read more.

Collin is as firefighter and part time bartender, who does not like change. Meeting Lizzie as the new bar owner sends both their worlds for a spin that neither of them saw coming. Their slow-burn chemistry between these two sent my kindle on fire.

Lizze has learned a thing or two from her father and her "uncles" and she see what she could do with the bar. She understands the reluctant for change but she determined to see it happen. Collin is not an easy man, but he is the man for her. Watching them become more was a delight and I was rooting extra hard for these two to find a way for HEA.

Lacey Black delivers us books with all the feels and this one was no exception. You can't help but love the MC with all their quirks. I'm so excited to see where this series takes us next.

This is the first in a new series, and this is Collin and Lizzie’s story.
Collin is a firefighter, who works a couple of nights a week in an old bar in town, while Lizzie has a dream of owing her own bar away from her family’s legacy, so she buys the bar in Cooper Town. The sparks fly between Collin and Lizzie, and they try to keep their relationship professional.
This is a well written easy to read, slow burn, with family, friendships, emotions, tension, boss / employee, workplace romance, forced proximity, taking chances, determination, challenges, humour, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, quirky small-town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Oh, I am gonna love these Cooper Town Boys for sure!

Collin is quiet and brooding. Lizzie is sweet and sassy. When Lizzie buys the bar that Collin works at, she asks him to give her thirty days to see if their working relationship can work. A lot can happen in thirty days.

Wow! I love Collin and Lizzie so much. Meeting much like Lizzie's parents did was so much fun to see. I love the instant chemistry between them. I also love how Collin turns out to be Lizzie's biggest champion.

Full of sweetness, passion, love, and of course dancing on the bar. You will fall hard and easily for these two and be rooting for their happily ever after. 5 easy stars.

I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did. To get the story of Lizzie all grown up and the way she meets her MC, was perfection!! The banter, the chemistry and the push/pull with these two was pure enjoyment to read. To see Lizzie as an adult, being her own person was fun, a great read. I really enjoy a good story by Lacey, this one was one I didn’t realize I needed. I can’t wait for more of this new series, but I’m not sure anyone can overtake Lizzie’s book.
I highly recommend this book. Told in dual POV.

Lacey Black brings Lizzie’s story in A Simple Request! I’ve loved Lizzie’s character ever since the burger and brew series. She is looking to fix up her own bar in a small town. Collin is a bartender and is not looking forward to a new owner bringing change. Once Collin sees Lizzie he is intrigued. She is a hard worker who wants to make a bar everyone can enjoy. These two immediately feel an attraction and I love how they come together. We get to see glimpses of Lizzie’s family. Cannot wait for the next book in this series!

I love it. A phenomenal start to a new series. I love getting second generation characters. Can't wait to get more of this series. Lizzie aka Lizard fianlly got her HEA. I was so excited when I saw we were going to get her story. And Lacey did not disappoint. Couldn't put it down. Lizzie is Walker's Daughter and that whole Crue makes an appearance in this story. I am loving the new spinoff of the Burgers & Brew series. Collin & Lizzie were the perfect first couple to kick off this set. Lacey has a way with her words, capturing your attention from the very first sentence and keeping you in until the very end, leaving you wanting more. I loved seeing the old crew pop up in the book and I can’t wait to see more cameos from them in the future.

The legacy continues

Omg I'm so glad Lizzie from the Brue Crew got her own book. She was such an important character in most their stories that I'm glad she got to find love. She was able to create a dream and find love almost like her parents did. Lizzie is my favorite FMC by far even beating out BJ who was my favorite in that crew.
