They’ve crossed black holes, defied tyrants, and clawed their way back from the edge of death. But for Captain Sarah Miller and those she loves, one question can they ever truly find home?
The Crown offers sanctuary, but Sarah, scarred by battle and haunted by her past, struggles to believe she deserves peace. Annie refuses to let her face the fight alone, even when the cost of standing beside Sarah grows higher than either imagined. Sofie, torn between bloodline and belonging, searches for the family she’s always wanted. And Max, restless and uncertain, wonders if there is still a place for him in the world they’re fighting for.
Shadows linger, and old enemies are never as far away as they seem. To make it home, they must confront not only the dangers closing in around them—but the legacies that have threatened to break them from the very beginning.
Captain Commander is the breathtaking conclusion to The Black Hole a story of love and loyalty, trauma and healing, and the unshakable hope that even in the darkest places, home can still be found.
Captain Commander is the third and final installment in The Black Hole Saga by JA Gaudio, and all I can say is WOW! It goes out with a bang. The author really puts our heroines through the wringer, and they rise to the challenge. I was definitely on edge throughout their perilous journey. Gaudio likes to bring the action and suspense, but she also brings a solid sense of realism. Complex character development across the board, fantastic world-building, nasty villains, real-world applications, and absolute couple goals mark this layered and highly engaging science fiction series. It is so well-written, well-balanced, and perfectly paced. I won't rehash the plot overview but suffice it to say that I highly recommend this entire series. I am thoroughly satisfied with the conclusion. Trigger warning for deep exploration of complex PTSD. The insights are enlightening, and I am glad the author also chose to include healthy management options. There are several noteworthy supporting characters, but Sofie stands out as a fantastic example of strength and vulnerability, and I love her arc. Do yourself a favor and read The Black Hole Saga! #sapphic #actionsuspense #scifi #military #space #trilogy #HEA #epilogue #familybonds #foundfamily #spaceexploration #twins #militarystrategy #PTSD #dogs #spacestation #spaceships #battles #bookhangover I received a free ARC from the author. This is my honest opinion.
It was only back in February when I read and reviewed The Fleet Admiral's Daughter, book 1 of The Black Hole Saga and declared it to be the best sci-fi novel I've read in years. Now, less than a year later, the saga is complete with the release of the final novel - Captain Commander. I am struggling to find the right words to convey how much I adore this series and the universe that J.A. Gaudio has created. It honestly is my favorite sci-fi series and I plan on re-reading it multiple times. It fills a giant void in my little sapphic sci-fi loving heart. If you haven't read the first 2 novels and the prequel novella, you absolutely have to go and do that first in order to understand the events in Captain Commander. It's ok, I'll wait. 😉
Captain Commander might be my favorite book in the entire series for a multitude of reasons. The plot is fast paced and gripping - if it were a movie, you'd be on the edge of your seat holding your breath. However, the action is balanced out by the depth of the relationships and character growth throughout the series. This book brings together multiple storylines and intertwines them masterfully, pulling them back together as the story builds towards a final confrontation with the villains.
I can't say enough about the titular Captain Commander - Sarah and Annie are truly a team in every sense of the word; most definitely #relationship goals. They go through hell and come out stronger on the other side. Their love and care for one another is so vivid and real. They don't give up on each other, no matter if the danger is external or from within. I don't think I have seen another sci-fi novel talk about PTSD and the toll it takes on both the person who lived through the trauma, as well as their partner in such a thoughtful and emotional way.
I could talk about this book and series forever but I think you should just go read it for yourself. I will leave you with one last thing to motivate you to grab this book today - there is a scene in which one of our heroines has a sword fight! On a space ship! With an unexpected villain!
The Black Hole Saga is truly a masterpiece and I will never stop recommending it!
I love this series. From the war, to battles, to the in depth look of PTSD, to, of course, my girl Sophie. There’s so much happening in this book, in the best way. Gaudio does a great job of tying up those loose ends to really being the whole trilogy together. We dive deep into Sarah’s personal issues and mental health issues. We dive into an undying love Annie has and will always have for the marine that stole her heart. The loss in this book is HEAVY, but the hope in this book pulls through. There’s a wild villainous family, a twin that you can’t get enough of, our sweet spazzy tech girl, and a dog that will steal your heart. This is a perfect closer to the whole trilogy and you won’t be disappointed reading this series. This series will show you that through it all, heartache, loss, rough family dynamics, love will still overcome all. Not just romantic love, but love of friends and teammates who will stand by you even when you send yourself down a black hole to save them. Take it from someone who never reads Sci-Fi, I honestly couldn’t get enough of these characters and their stories.
