Afghanistan, 2022.

But you can never leave.

Two decades ago, the United States invaded Taliban-controlled Afghanistan to fumigate a rat's nest of international terrorists. And then it left.

Now the Taliban are teetering on the edge of a fresh civil war, and a new breed of militants is growing out of the fertile ground of chaos. One group makes the Taliban regime look like kindergarten teachers by comparison. It's known as Islamic State Khorasan. Brutal, violent, and bent on using the failed state of Afghanistan as a launching pad for global mayhem.

If there's one thing Trapp has learned, it's the more things change, the more they stay the same. IS-K has to be stopped.

The problem is, not everybody agrees...

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

Good read. Editing is slipping

I enjoy the main character, Jason Trapp. Like many protagonists in this genre he is a goog guy forced to do bad things on occasion. In the end he seems to come out with a few more scars, but in goid enough shape to fight another day.

This book is almost too real on the current event side. The fictional president appears to be much more competent than our current one...hopefully anyway.

As this series has progressed I am finding more obvious errors. The editing is slipping. Poor editing is a big turn off for me. Hopefully the next book is better.

Worth the wait!

I understand a writer needs time to write and this was definitely worth the wait. As always, there was more action than backstory which kept everything going on a quick pace. I like the way he meets up with characters from previous books making it more lifelike. Looking forward to the next one.

I was looking forward to this seventh installment of the Jason Trapp saga and I am glad I was finally able to read it. Jack Slater is a great writer of of spy thrillers and Jason Trapp could easily be the "cousin" of Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp. In fact, they seems so closely aligned that the stories could be used interchangeably between the two characters without missing a beat.

Valley of Death is very well written and has the balance of suspense, action, intrigue and flow that is consistent throughout this saga. The character development enables me to care about the character and what drives him to do what's right without any regard for personal benefit or safety. This recent mission confirms as such as he is called upon by the President to go on a mission to Afghanistan to protect an envoy secretly meeting with a faction of the Taliban in a deal that would protect America's national security and interests in the region. What could possibly go wrong? Well, Trapp always knows the grave danger that exists among these kind of missions, especially over there. In the midst of it, he comes across a plot of a CIA official with a hidden agenda that exacerbates the risk and the danger and if he doesn't uncover it quickly, it will spell the end for Trapp and those he is protecting.

I always enjoy those kind of suspenseful plots in these spy thrillers and this one is no different. It was a quick read and Mr. Slater is on point at delivering what fans of Jason Trapp want. This book is highly recommended for lovers of spy thrillers.

In "Valley of Death," the seventh in the Jason Trapp series, Jack Slater takes on the turmoil in Afghanistan following the U.S. withdrawal and subsequent Taliban takeover by sending his super agent to assist a covert diplomatic mission within the backward nation. Trapp is already on the outs with the various clandestine services after his foray into a particularly nasty Siberian gulag, where he got imprisoned to rescue a friend spirited away to the facility's dark site. Trapp doesn't pay much attention to niceties, much less politics. But the president has asked that he tag along. The mission starts sketchy — unofficial, a team air dropped into the mountains near the Pakistani border, and danger a certainty. Of course, something goes wrong, and Trapp must improvise. Alone with the translator, he's forced to find a way out of a hostile country with a team of killers hot on his trail. Slater, following his previous novel in the series, makes the adventure gritty and the outcome uncertain. Trapp's good. But he's no superman. He needs help, and he finds it but also assumes a huge liability. Slater also does a good job of framing challenges the new Afghanistan regime faces, presenting a ruthless counter insurgency, making the Taliban look like Boy Scouts in comparison.

Valley of Death

As usual, this is another excellent book involving Jason Trapp. I was absorbed in the story and the plight of the Afghans, left behind in a war torn country. It is truly an atrocity, what is happening to those left behind, and I'm sure they feel abandoned by those who entered their country and then allowed the Taliban to take over again, upon their departure. The question could be posed as to whether we accomplished anything, or did we do more harm than good. We lost a lot of young men and women during GWOT, more so, than others who joined us in our endeavors. This is very reminiscent of what happened in Vietnam, when Politicians prevailed, at the cost of young men, who weren't given a choice. If you fail to learn from your mistakes, history has a bad habit of repeating itself. Please read this book and I believe you will thoroughly enjoy it. Looking forward to the next Trapp novel already. God Bless and Thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Great Country and those who are fortunate to call Her Home.

Simple humanity often lacking

Jack Slater is a master of making you feel his stories. You can actually feel the characters and what has shaped them when you are introduced to them. You understand their emotions and thoughts. Often times, you are even able to predict their reactions. I found myself in the Afghan villages starving and freezing and yet protective of the young and elderly eager to fight, while reticent in what it will bring.
I find myself with Jason trying to do what is right and compassionate but ultimately having to do things I hate for the ultimate good. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all just “get along”? Infamous question spoken from a broken and tortured soul and a question that is repeatedly asked throughout history.

Returning to a 4-star score for a Trapp's book after previous two were just scored 3-stars.
I was concerned about the changes presented at the end of the last book in case this was going to result in Jason's taking some kind of consultancy role but, luckily, this didn't happen and he was returning to his role.
In this case, bad guys are middle eastern and the action is placed in Afghanistan.
It's not just about running and shooting but there is time to establish some human relationships there and to be little thrilled for what is to come.
As secondary thread, as usual, not everybody is what is supposed to be and you can found the reason for the main situation is somebody looking to get some money into his pockets.

The President is sending representatives to a secret meeting in Afghanistan, to try and get peace between the US and one of the more stable Taliban groups. Jason Trapp is basically going along as a bodyguard, because he is someone the President trusts. Rafi is an Afghani interpreter, selected because the meeting was close to his village and he knows the area. There is a fly in the ointment. The meeting isn't so secret. The head of the CIA in that region has a good thing going and Jason is about to muck it up. When the group is attacked, Rafi is injured and Jason refuses to leave him behind. He ends up saving, not only Rafi but his village as well.

I have loved all of the Jason Trapp novels, and this one is no exception. Each time I think that they can't get better, and then they exceed my expectations. This novel was so timely and clearly portrayed some of the struggles citizens are facing in Afghanistan. Jason is a guy who you want to keep on your side of the battle, but yet his character shows heart and compassion and not just the brawn. I'm looking forward to the next installment in this series. I did notice a few editing errors, but I was so drawn into the story that those errors didn't slow me down a bit. Be ready for a nail biter folks!

Another great story

I'm always impressed with the quality of this author's writing. But it is his main character, Jason Trapp's flaws, perhaps especially his flaws, that brings the stories to life. This story was clearly close to the author's heart. Even if he did have to change the trajectory of the novel when real life events changed, I suspect this new direction turned out even better than the one he'd originally had in mind. Good work.

Action

Jason is in Afghanistan as security for a personal friend of the president. Somehow the Taliban seems to know where they are - always. A middle of the night attack has them running for there lives. The envoy makes it back to the drop zone while Jason and the interpreter are left on their own. Now its a race to find the interpreter's daughter, save the residents of his village and escape Afghanistan. Never a dull moment. Great job. Thank you.

Trapp's 5 Star Trap

Great story .
Jason Trapp goes into Afghanistan to help on a secret diplomacy mission at the behest of the President and a top CIA commander. Only the entire op goes sideways when they are ambushed. Trapp must fight his way out of Taliban country while leading a rag tag group of displaced villagers across the mountains and into Pakistan.
Super story with non stop action and strong, well defined characters.
Ready for the next Trapped trip.

This was good. I’m glad I decided to try one more Jason Trapp book (#7), skipping #6. Author is back on track in this one with Trapp being main character again, after going off on a tangent with #5 and writing a very boring book mainly about the bad guys and very little Jason participation. This one conveyed the Afghan situation without having to study the Taliban in depth. Jason was actively involved again. Hopefully he will be the focus of the next book also.

Very entertaining

Jason has been sent to Afghanistan as part of a security team for one of the Presidents envoy. Hoping to work out a deal to finally bring peace to the area. But the best plans often don’t go off as planned.

Well written story that keeps getting more exciting each page consumed.

The Middle East, Afghanistan a hotbed of political corruption. Different terrorist groups fighting for dominance. An worse then this is a highly placed CIA operative whose only motivation is as old as time. Money. An extremely fast paced action thriller ripe with betrayal, intrigue and the Afghan people who bravely suffer through all of this. An excellent read!! My highest recommendation!!

Jason Trapp book 7

Valley of death was the best one of the seven. So much of this novel is based on developments throughout our world. Human suffering, betrayal, and human nature and human emotions played throughout this novel. I loved it. I wish there were Jason Trapp’s everywhere. I was a roller coaster ride. Enjoy!!!!

Another great read staring Jason Trapp. I have read all of the books in order and this really helps to get an insight into the main character. The book is very current and well written with lots of action. Many thought provoking issues are identified. A big thank you to the author Jack Slater and from me a well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another excellent story by Jack Slater. Jason Trapp is brought into Afghanistan to assist with one of the Presidents friends to try to meet with the locals. They become separated when they are attacked. Trapp then tries to save his interpreter, their and his village from the Taliban.

Another great Trapp novel.

Again a novel that has it all. Intrigue, grave danger, love and finally heroism. It also described a situation that could be playing out in Afghanistan as we speak. Very sad that the Taliban are back in charge. We threw away a lot of lives and treasure just to have the Taliban in charge once again.

The difficult Trapp does immediately; the impossible takes a little longer.

Author Jack Slater has done the impossible with this series: made the jaded, cynical reader remember that not everyone in Afghanistan is a terrorist. The land is also home to decent, innocent, everyday people who wish no harm to anyone and want only to live in peace with their families. Bravo!

another great story

Trapp is such a likable guy and so are many of his characters. As a reader you invest in them. You care and the endings are very satisfying. I’ve got one more in the series to read. I’ll be sad when I get to the end of it. I hope he has some more coming. Rafi is an excellent character, and the story was very compelling. Great tension.

Trapp is just a great character. Always does heroic and good things, such as what he did in this book. book setting was fantastic. once again the author introduces more newer characters to compliment Trapp on his current mission. slight spoiler, the trope of a bigger agency guy being shady is always welcomed. onto his next mission assignment.

Freedom is Always Bought with Blood

A great read. I’m always happily surprised by Jack Slater… He has created a Hero who is amazing and has a conscious too… Yasmin and her fellow villagers will have a chance to live in freedom now that Jason Trapp has triumphed again! Read it… you’ll like it!

On his own again - Jason Trapp

Beautiful description of the rugged terrain of the Afghanistan Mountains. But without the help of any of his colleagues and chased by Taliban fighters, how will Trapp get an interpreter and a village to safety? Another good read as Trapp has to use his wits and will, with a bit of luck to get out this impossible situation.

Finally, took him 7 tries but he got it!!!

So the author has a tendency to ramble and gets too much head stuff and not enough story and then only one part of the entire story being of action.
This time the story started sooner and there was action throughout. Boring in the very beginning but he got to it and it was good.
Read it you will like it.

Not so many typos as I expected.

All the reviews I read complained about the multitude of editing errors. Yes there were a few but not so many as to ruin the book. As with any action adventure you have to suspend disbelief a little. But still the book was enjoyable and I will continue with the series.

Great read

Great story line, fast paced action. My only criticism is " continuity" towards the beginning of the book Yasmin is described as having green eyes, towards the end they are specifically described as brown? For me, being a bit ocd it is annoying. Who proofreads? Other than that, will continue to enjoy all Jason's exploits.
