When a school bully vanishes inside a Gothic Victorian house that seems to appear and disappear at will, Verity's drawn into the darkness.
Upon discovering that adults can't seem to see the supernatural threat, Verity teams up with fellow outcasts Art, Helena and Elias to uncover a gateway between the living and the dead, guarded by an evil Victorian mystic protecting century-old secrets. As the house's sinister influence spreads through their small Pacific Northwest town, Verity must confront her deepest fears to unlock a terrible truth behind the building's curse.
Some doors should never be opened. But as the clock runs out and the darkness closes in, Verity must flee to save herself, or enter the house one final time and risk everything in a battle against an ancient evil that threatens everyone she loves.
Nightfall House is a chilling new adventure from the author of Weirdbey Island.
My kids and I fell in love with the Weirdbey Island series when it first came to local stores years ago. My kids are now mostly young adults, but I was excited to see his newest YA series. While I don't read a ton of YA, I still read some as my youngest is in middle school.
We really liked this book! It kept a nice pace, wasn't too long, had a lot of thrills and surprises, as well as nice character development. While I found it engaging as an adult, it is like that it is pretty tween/young teen appropriate. It is creepy, spooky, and mysterious without being overly graphic, which can be a challenge to find at times.
This is a great read for tween/teens with a love of the paranormal.
I don't want to give spoilers, but we really enjoyed the ending and look forward to this hopefully being a series.
The one real warning I would give for parents of younger readers for this genre is that there is talk about bullying behavior that could be triggers for some kiddos who have experienced such behavior.
I read it in my Kindle but plan on purchasing 2 paperback copies as gifts.
This book may have been written for young adults, but definitely can be for all ages I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was so good I had trouble putting it down, it kept me entertained and in suspense the whole way through. Living on Whidbey Island I could just see where each of the locations would be, including the house. Can’t wait to read more in this series. Another amazing book by a great author.
This book was well written and kept me enthralled from start to finish. Living on Whidbey Island I can picture exactly where this house would be, and I’ll probably avoid that section for the time being. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I love this book! It is written and fun to read. It combines two of my favorite things, the paranormal and my island, Whidbey Island! It has elements of the paranormal, mystery, and self discovery. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves these elements. This book feels like home!
I enjoyed reading this with my 8th grade child. she grew up reading the Weirdbey series and this was the perfect step forward into something that felt spooky but less young. I really enjoyed reading something with such a familiar setting and I'm already hoping for more from this series.
Nightfall House was the perfect book to read during this Halloween season! The imagery is vivid, plot is thick and I’m dying to learn more about Verity Sable and her cat Jinx, her missing father, and the mysterious women in her life. Also as a Whidbey Islander I feel especially fond of reading spooky stories taking place there. I can’t wait for book 2, congratulations on this first one Eldritch!
