We get so much more out of life when we feel positive and energised and therefore it is such a shame when the everyday pressures of life build up and we find ourselves doing almost anything simply to get by and end up a long way from the ideal that we still wistfully have in mind. Full of the wisdom and good nourishment that helped Sadie, Holly and Amber through their own personal struggles and setbacks, Nourish promises to restore you to the path of complete well-being. With Amber's delicious food to nourish the body, Holly's exercises to strengthen it and Sadie's beauty recipes to soothe the skin and yoga and meditation routines to still the mind, this beautiful book is the perfect antidote to the stresses and strains of modern life, proving that there is always a way to stay nourished and happy.
Amber Rose grew up in New Zealand, surrounded by heritage fruit and vegetables. She has travelled the world, cooking in cafes and restaurants. She was a private chef before becoming a doula and cook to new mothers. She is also a food stylist, based in London.
Librarian’s note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
Never write a review but this book was awful! Based mostly on opinion but implies science. No reference of where information comes from. Not a reliable book for your mind, body or soul!
The book is divided into 3 sections, each written by one of the 3 authors of this book .
The 1st, by Amber Rose, is full of recipes, from smoothies to main course dishes, that are supposedly healthy and taste good. I tried the "banana-kale-coconut water" smoothie recipe and it indeed was not bad - the 3 go together very well. I saved some other recipes to try later on.
The 2nd section is written by Sadie Frost. A hefty chunk of it is about yoga and there are tons of photos of various poses to try. The end part of this section features other ways to heal the mind/soul, like through energy (e.g. fengshui, rituals, etc), detoxes (e.g. body brushing, detox baths, etc), meditation and more. This was my favourite section of the book as it contained a little of everything, and Sadie talks about how she actually applies these in her life and how it has helped her.
The last section is written by Sadie's sister, Holly Davidson, and is all about exercise. It mainly features photos of Holly in various exercise poses, and she details some exercise routines to try.
This book is a very quick read. Written by three authors, the book is divided into one section for each author.
Section two is where you find the "heavy reading" material. This section is devoted to yoga, meditation, natural beauty products, etc. The author also discusses the value of breathing and other forms of therapy.
The first section covers a bit of the writer's background, but it's mostly recipes. You can breeze through this section quickly.
The third section is devoted to exercise, and it discusses what I consider to be very common fitness information: stretching, cardio, HIIT, and strength training. The workouts look interesting, and I plan to give them a try -- to shake up my current routine.
This is a sweet book, but there's nothing groundbreaking here. I do like that it's a lifestyle approach to mental and physical health, rather than one that touts quick fixes.
Very easy light read but a bit flimsy on the research side... Some parts were valid but then there were contrasting parts such as with the use of fluoride. Enjoyed it and the insight into some of Sadie's rituals.
