Karma's a witch. When witch Jena Seymore returns home to Havers-by-the-Sea to care for her dying aunt, old town politics and prejudices are rekindled. Between the local Westside Pack’s vendetta against her family and the coven pressuring Jena to become guardian of the magical node outside of town, she has enough problems without adding Chase Montgomery to the mix. Especially after he broke her heart by starting the devastating rumor that sent Jena running from town in the first place.
But Chase has plenty of problems of his own, and how to make amends with Jena and win her heart is at the top of the list. Unbeknownst to his pack, Jena is his fated mate, and after her leaving town the first time almost killed him, he’s not letting her get away again—no matter what the backlash might be.
And meanwhile, the node is turning wild, jeopardizing Havers-by-the-Sea's existence as tensions threaten to tear it apart from within. Deep-seated small town secrets could hold the key to its future—but only if they’re discovered before Samhain, when the blue moon rises.
Magic happens and sparks fly in the small town of Havers-By-the-Sea when a sassy witch with curves for days crosses paths with an irresistible alpha shifter. WERES AND WITCHERY, the first spicy paranormal romance novel in the Star-Crossed Chronicles series by AK Nevermore..

Well that was a fun, intriguing, suspenseful, and mysterious read! The town of Havers-by-the-Sea has been hiding a secret for the last 20 years, ostracising the innocent and rife with division, things start to unravel and secrets are revealed. Jena, our MFC, is caring, loyal, closed off, and determined. She returns home after 12 years away from a town she’d rather forget, to care for her sick godmother. It immediately sets the towns gossip wheel spinning and it doesn’t take long for old vendettas to resurface. Then we have Chase, our MMC, Jena’s high school crush who did a really stupid thing and drove her away. He’s broody, bossy, keeping his own secrets, and determined to not let her go a second time. The intrigue, suspense and mystery throughout are really good and well balanced, as is the plot line and the way the story unfolds. It was easy to feel for the characters and their emotions, and get swept up in the story, although the ending was a bit abrupt. Lastly, I need to know what happened between Liam and Felix, their chemistry, there’s a story there! A good, easy paranormal read, perfect for this spooky season.
I absolutely loved this book! I don't think I've ever read anything quite like it, but I loved it from the first page to the last page. LOVED the chemistry between Jena and Chase - HOOOOOOT. It was a fun, sexy romp. And I really loved how the author incorporated so many supernatural elements. It packs a punch! I really hope there is a sequel because I will devour it. DEVOUR!!
‘Weres and Witchery’ is the first book I’ve read by author A. K. Nevermore. I started reading this book at 9pm and read straight through to 4am. … FOUR. A. M.
Crazy, right?! Let me tell you, this book had me hooked from the start with its humor, drama, character chemistry, character personalities, drama, romance, banter, action, and spice.
‘Weres and Witchery’ is among one of the best escapes I’ve had in a while.
I’m an AKN fan through and through, and this book sums up exactly why that is: it was fun, the hero/heroine were both super relatable, and there were layers upon layers to the plot and characters. I love that she wrote a gay side character who was true to life and not a walking stereotype. Yeah, Felix is sassy and fashionable, but he is more than just his sexuality, and I love that so much.
I love everything A.K. Nevermore! This was a fun read! Paranormal, Forbidden Fated Mates, Romance, Funny Best Friend, Witches, and so much more. I thought the chemistry between Jena and Chase was amazing. Aunt Aggie is hilarious! I loved the descriptions of the old house and the details. This story had a lot of surprises that you’re going to enjoy!
This was the perfect holiday read! Everything felt perfect for the theme! The small town was doing it's thang, the paranormal was definitely present in this one as well. All things that I enjoy. I liked the story between Jena and Chase. I also really liked the side characters! Aggie, loved her!! Felix, I'd like another helping please! One thing about this author, is she can write some super interesting side characters! They really are amazing. I became so invested in them that now, I must beg for Felix to get a story. I'd even be interested in more of the Eastside characters! I love getting sucked into a world where I can be immersed and just love everything about it. My only negative, is that I felt like Jena and Chase were side characters in this story. I enjoyed getting to see them interact with the side characters more than I was interested in what they had going on. Jena, was interesting but not as interesting as Aggie. Chase did not give me any kind of alpha vibes and I almost didn't believe him when he said he'd reign hell on the people who wronged him. He definitely was giving vibes of a chill person who just has a big mouth but was just that...a big mouth. When he says he doesn't want to lead, I definitely believed him. As for everything else, I really liked how the lore in the world is built and I also liked the potential that this has. Maybe there will be more in Havers-By-The Sea for us?
As for the spice...it was ok. I guess because I didn't really believe in the main characters, the spice didn't really hit for me. There is two scenes in this book and I was almost upset for Jena during the first. She gave into Chase very easily there. I definitely thought that she was going to hold out a little longer on him given the circumstances. The second one just felt out of place. Like they were supposed to be in a rush to get somewhere but they had time to have their reunion and then some other things that happened. I guess it wouldn't have been as noticeable if the time crunch wasn't such a big deal. I give the spice a solid 3 out of 5. Overall, I enjoyed the read and would recommend it to others who would enjoy a book to get them into the vibes of the season. The characters are interesting and the paranormal is definitely making itself known with the witches, shifters and faery vibes.
The last place witch Jena Seymore expected to return to is her hometown, Havers-by-the-Sea. Her aunt is dying and is Jena’s only family left. She’s landed in the middle of a tug-o-war between the Westside Pack and the local coven wanting her to become the guardian to the magical node. Then there’s Chase, the boy/were who broke her heart back in high school. He won’t leave her be. When he tells her they’re fated mates, she scoffs. But her bestie Felix, also a witch, urges her to take Chase seriously. Someone evil is pulling the strings, causing the node to go crazy as well as weres and witches. Will Jena and Chase realize they’re meant to be and combining their magic to bring down pure evil is the cure?
Weres and Witchey is a small-town paranormal romance with plenty of passion, dark secrets, and snarky dialogue. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. You have descriptive narration that’s immersive and very detailed. While reading, I was captivated and dove into the story. The world-building is flawless with a whole slew of paranormal creatures including witches, werewolves, fae, pixies, and more. The secrets are massive, and AK Nevermore reveals them slowly, so it ratchets up the tension. The magical and paranormal elements are intoxicating. The climax is pivotal to the plot and very graphic. Weres and Witchery is perfect for all paranormal romance readers. I can’t wait to read what happens next, especially between Felix and Liam.
A Snarky Witch, a Smokin’ Hot Were, and a Hilarious Cast of Side Characters!
I love the FMC in this book and not just because of her name. Jena is a curvy witch chock full of snark and she makes quite an entrance when she tells off a snobby wench in epic fashion, getting herself fired in the process (totally worth it though). Said firing takes place in front of Chase, her high school crush and the source of the single-most humiliating moment of her teenagehood. That moment sent her packing as soon as school was over. Now, a little over a decade later, she’s returned to take care of some family business and seeing Chase Mongomery wasn’t exactly on her BINGO card for the trip.
Chase is the presumptive heir to the Western pack even though he very much wants nothing to do with the coveted position. His dad is a giant eggplant and his dad’s second-in-command, Malcolm, is an absolute mooseknuckle of a person. Your first meeting with them sets a tone and it’s not a good look for either of them. You are given a clear understanding of why Chase isn’t exactly clicking his heels over being at the head of the pack. Plus, his pack can’t stand Jena for reasons he doesn’t really understand, and she’s his mate so that’s just not going to work. So, of course, fate (and one very determined Chase) finds a way to throw them together.
Their love story has so many great moments and a healthy dose of spice (there is also some ‘sir’ action in there :: wink wink nudge nudge ::). While he doesn’t force her into anything too fast, he also refuses to accept any world in which they do not end up together. There is a reason for that but I can’t explain because then this will get all spoiler-y.
The side characters in this book are awesome. Felix is Jena’s ride-or-💀 best friend and the warlock makes up part of the LGBTQ+ representation in the book. His snark goes toe-to-toe with Jena and you’re guaranteed to have some fun when he appears on the page. Again, spoilers so I can’t get into any specifics but look for his commentary on the mayor and keep an eye out for the jump suit. No further comments on that one. 🤣 Also, I. Love. Aggie. She’s the reason Jena has returned to town. Unfortunately, when we meet Aggie, she’s eyeball deep in a battle with cancer. Even with the damage done to her by chemo treatments, she’s got a snarky mouth that quickly tells you where Jena gets her own from.
I also loved the world building in Weres and Witchery. The lore is big. In the fictional town of Havers-By-the-Sea, the supernatural is out and proud. There are all sorts of creatures and different types of magic. In this world, the magic you have at your disposal is directly related to your karmic levels and intent is a huge theme. Although Weres and Witchery is a romance set in a small town and the plot and people very much have small town vibes, please know that the book is not a cozy/sweet small town romance. There is some graphic content (guts, gore, and more), all of which is in the content warnings at the start of the book so you have plenty of heads up about what you’ll encounter.
Overall, I loved it. Enough so that I’ve already re-read the book once since it came out on Halloween. If you like action-packed paranormal romance with a serious dose of cleverly-written comedy thrown in, you’re going to love Weres and Witchery!

Weres and Witchery is my first book by author A.K. Nevermore. Because it is spooky season, I wanted to dive into a cozy paranormal read. This one is a spicy, small-town paranormal romance that will make you warm and fuzzy—oh, and blush a little.
Jena Seymore, the FMC, returns home to Havers-by-the-sea to care for her dying aunt. Sadly, the old-town politics and prejudices are rekindled, and people are just as rude as before, if not more so. Not only is she dealing with people, but also an old crush, Chase Montgomery. Chase was the primary reason she left town in the first place.
Chase, the MMC and leader of his pack, tries to make amends with Jena and convince her that she is his fated mate. Of course, it isn’t as easy as it seems. His family is set on his marrying someone else. How can he juggle his responsibilities and win Jena over?
I loved the suspense and mystery, oh and of course, the spice! I loved (and hated) the characters and how they all interacted with one another. The story had the perfect pace and unfolded bit by bit, keeping me engaged and turning the page. I can only hope there will be another book, maybe focus on Felix?!? Hahah.
Thanks to A.K. Nevermore for gifting me an eARC of Weres and Witchery. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I do not say this lightly this is hands down the best book I've read this year. And I normally read one to two books a day. Chase new back with Jenna was still in high school that she was his fated mate. But he could not claim her or acknowledge that because of his family and what they would do to her. Jenna had a crush on him but with humiliated at a bonfire when he said he kissed her on a dare. She had no idea that he was lying about that and was so humiliated that she left town as soon as she could. When her godmother ended up sick she came back only to be swept up and all the drama. Besides your godmother she had her best friend Felix to support her. I really hope that Felix and Liam get their own book. There was so much to enjoy in this book and plenty of laughs. But one of the quotes from the book that had me LMMFAO was "Oh look, your favorite." Felix gushed, knowing full well she hated the stuff. He smirk as she bit back a scowl at the sacrilege. Pasta was not meant to be served cold in dressing, it belonged in sauce with ungodly amounts of piping hot cheese. And I honestly couldn't agree with her more. There's so much for love about this book that I couldn't pick just one thing it was so well written the main characters were amazing. Even the evil characters were done brilliantly.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Weres and Witchery was such a fun and sexy romp of a paranormal romance. The magic, the suspense, and the tension really packed a punch and kept me captivated throughout the story. This story follows witch, Jena Seymore and werewolf, Chase Montgomery, who are at odds with each other but are fated mates.
Jena was a badass FMC. She was so strong and put up with a lot of animosity from the people in her hometown. Jena was definitely no damsel in distress when sh!t hit the fan, and I loved how protective she was of those she loved and cared for. The banter between her and Chase was witty and I loved their push and pull dynamic.
Chase was a cinnamon roll of a man but feral when it came to Jena, and his pining for her was everything. His dedication to make amends for his betrayal of Jena was both swoony and enticing. I was very much rooting for him. And the way he used his seduction skills on Jena? UUUFFF, this man turned up the heat.
AK Nevermore not only delivered a fun and spicy story with Weres and Witchery, it also thrived on suspense and mystery. There were many laugh out loud moments and twists that kept me engaged and entertained.
Have you ever read a book you wanna stay up all night to read or even call in sick to work just keep reading? This is that book. From page 1 you are immersed in a story that grabs you. The characters are flawed as people are. They are strong friendships and eventually stronger love. The main female has such strength even she does not know. She deals with things even though she does not want to. She doe not trust easy nor should she. But her heart knows. The main male he has his own demons as well and he is the one who put them there. Not being honest with his mate almost killed him. Was such a turning point when he was open and honest up from the 2nd time around. The other characters in the book all add that needed element with in the story. There are some very graphic killing scenes that might disturb some. The secrets that unfold throughout the story keep adding those layers. I would have loved a 2nd epilogue I did not want to leave this couple yet ! This book is intense and not you average shifter - witch romance. This deals with a lot of evil and past secrets. Would i read again 100%.

Eastside is one of those small towns that looks quiet until you realize the coffee shop is run by a witch with the help of a werewolf from the wrong side of the tracks, the lay lines hum after dark, and your high school crush is a werewolf. Yeah— that kind of quiet.
Jena’s return home is anything but peaceful. She’s still haunted by her mother’s mysterious death and the fallout of her father’s curse that left the town whispering her family’s name like a bad omen. Now she’s back to care for her Aunt Aggie (absolute queen and chaos gremlin, 10/10 would hex for), only to find that the ghosts of her past are alive, well, and very opinionated.
Enter Chase: the boy who once broke her heart in a humiliating fashion, who carries a secret sharp enough to split the veil between worlds. When he finally reveals what he’s been hiding, everything Jena thought she knew about Eastside (and herself) starts to unravel. Magic, grief, love, and sin eating collide in a story that’s as tender as it is feral.
Because in Eastside, even the moon keeps receipts honey.
Jena is a witch and an outcast. Chase is a werewolf and destined to be the next alpha. Throw in some high school drama. What could go wrong? Yeah, everything! But wait, being gone twelve years should make things better, right? Yeah, not even. I loved this story! It has everything I like in a good book, angst, anger, laughter, tears, fun, heat, love, loyal best friend, quirky side characters and an HEA. It doesn’t get any better than that. The storyline is solid, engaging, the world building is multi-dimensional and once you start you won’t want to put it down. I have to say though, is it just me, what the heck happened with Felix and Liam? There is a depth to Liam that needs explored, and I hope the author writes their story. "This is my honest review of an advanced reader copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily."
I love Felix and Aggie. It is always a good sign to me when the secondary characters are written so well. Jena may have been going through a lot coming back to a town full of awful people but it was great to see her have so much support. Chase is complicated. He is a bit stuck in an uncomfortable situation between family/pack expectations and his personal desires. I wish that he had stepped up a bit more, but it was nice to see him finally supporting Jena.
I liked the story for the most part. I have trouble feeling or sustaining the tension when the characters are kind of flitting around town rather than being driven to solve the looming issue that is the big conflict/narrative tension (ie why should I be worried if they aren't). So the ending lost a lot for me and I wished it had wrapped up 10% earlier. But the characters really won me over and it was fun overall.
Thank you to the author for the #gifted copy of this book💜 OMG THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING,I wasn’t expecting all of what happened by only reading the blurp,it exceeded my expectations by a lot,it was so good, full of mystery, thriller and paranormal. Also the folklore aspect was really on point,I have never read a paranormal romance with this many creatures of folklore mentioned💫 I adored the way the MMC(Chase) was written and how he yearns for the love and approval of his mate aka the FMC(Jena),I loved how much he is obsessed with her and everything he does for her. The whole mystery surrounding Jena’s family is so intriguing and it kept me glued to the pages,I couldn’t stop reading and I needed more,I read the whole book in one afternoon💜 the story is so captivating and also the writing style is perfect and it’s really fluid,it was a very pleasant read and with many plot twists I didn’t see coming. I would advise that you read the trigger warnings before reading though. You all know how much I love paranormal romance and this really hits the spot since it’s also an omegaverse✨ In the end I think you should definitely read this book because it’s a perfect read for this seaso💜
Weres & Witchery follows Jena Seymore, a witch who is also an outcast and Chase Montgomery, a werewolf who is destined to be the next alpha. When Jena discovers her aunt is dying, she returns home to the small town of Eastside to care for her. Of course, her return is anything but peaceful, memories of her mother’s death and her father’s curse assault her, and to make matters worse, Chase returns, reminding her of the humiliation he once caused. Chase, on the other hand, is hiding his own secrets.. not only is he a werewolf, but Jena is his mate, the same mate that almost killed him when she left town the last time. Now Chase needs to earn Jena’s forgiveness, win over her heart, and get her to stay with him.. even if his pack is against it.
Book Review 5⭐️ 3.5🌶 A sin-eating witch and a manifesting werewolf. Sounds like a punchline, right? Well, in Havers-by-the-Sea, it's just another day. When Jenna - the sin-eating witch - returns home to care for her ailing aunt, she doesn't expect town drama, dark magic, or him: Chase the high school crush turned heartbreak. Chase well, he went a little feral when she left, and after that senior year party, she swore she would never forgive him. With magic going wild, pack, and town drama, they may be the only way to fix it. Can he win her back?
Thank you, @aknevermore & @bookmojopr for the ARC!
Absolutely LOVED. Weres and Witchery was everything I didn't know I needed. Such a unique twist on a paranormal romance, and just in time for Halloween!
Jena is a total badass (just like all the other women AK writes about), and I absolutely adore the confidence Chase brought out of her just by loving her for her. And Chase? AK knows how to write delicious men who worship their women.
All that my heart is yearning for is finding out if Chases' vision came true. Maybe AK will bless us with a bonus epilogue in the near future 😉
Thank you, AK Nevermore for the arc copy. It's always an honor to read for you.
This was the first book I've read that head werewolves in it since I read twilight back in high school. That was many moons ago. It was the first about witches that ive read too. I was a bit skeptical about it at first because as I mentioned ive not read a book that had "knotting" in it so i wasn't sure how that was gonna work 😅
That being said I loved most of the characters. Felix was funny and sassy(so was Aggie) which i absolutely loved. And Chase and Jena are couple goals. Glad she finally gave him a second chance. The spice was top notch but not too much that it took from the story.
I loved this book! Hope to see more in the future!
Spice: 5/5 Genre: Paranormal Romance, Shifter Romance, Halloween, Small town Romance, Witchcraft Romance, Magic Content Warnings: Violence ARC Source: I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thoughts: Weres & Witchery by A.K. Nevermore was a witching good time to read, filled with lots of small town drama, magic and shifters, second chance romances and sassy, independent heroine. The FMC is an easy character to love, while the MMC gets his redemption arc everyone is hoping for, it sometimes felt like he didn’t deserve the second chance. Overall, Weres & Witchery is an enjoyable, fun, easy read with witchy Halloween vibes.
I really enjoyed reading Weres & Witchery. Jena is an interesting character, and I liked following her journey and seeing her grown into her power. The other characters span the range from good to truly loathsome, but all of them are well written with genuine depth. The story is fascinating as it unfolds, bringing the reader into a vivid world with extremes of goodness and malevolence, emphasized by the small town setting. I highly recommend this book for readers who enjoy stories about witches, werewolves and other supernatural creatures with a fated mates romance.

Jena Seymore, returns to Havers-by-the-sea to care for her ailing aunt. She encounters familiar town prejudices and rude residents. Additionally, she must confront Chase Montgomery, an old crush who prompted her departure. Chase, the alpha of his pack, is set on reuniting with Jena, believing her to be his fated mate. However, his family has arranged his marriage to another. The narrative follows Chase as he balances his obligations with his efforts to persuade Jena of their shared destiny. The suspense, mystery, and "spice" were captivating, character interactions compelling, and the story's pacing engaging. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Good read! Gave us a bit of backstory to set the page, enough spice and lead up spice to be happy and an ending that brought it all complete salt circle! Yes, this book had the Halloween feels, competent plus sized witchy heroine that found her strength and her purpose, coupled with a sexy bashful were that got his second chance, learned his lessons but never gave up. Even the side characters were cute, (fashionable) and played their roles to a tee! Wish we could’ve learned more about Felix and Liam next steps but hey, my imagination has already took off with all the bits I was provided in this book! Definite fall read! Go grab yours!.

It's a huge understatement in how much I enjoyed this book. The twists & turns, suspense, action, phenomenal banter, complex & relatable characters plus a beautiful spicy romance....I'm always down!! Felix and Aggie were my favorites of the side characters, they provided amazing albeit somewhat judgy observations at times 😅, great banter and advice. Plus consistently reminding Jenna and Chase to be honest with themselves and each other. There are some crazy and dark scenarios happening in this book, so if you're sensitive to dark themes then proceed with caution! But if you're down for a small town with dark secrets and the complex beings inhabiting it then read this book. I would love for the world to expand and for us to get more stories!! 🥰♥️.

The main characters are Jena and Chase, who also have a past. Should I say that I enjoyed the book or not? The author’s writing is warm, funny, full of emotion and so passionate. I especially liked the suspense she created and the characters. They all left their own mark on the story and had chemistry. In conclusion, I can say that I was thrilled with the author’s writing and that I will be looking for more of her books.
Thanks to the author and Book Mojo PR for the eARC!
This was a fab romance for the spooky season and I loved seeing Chase and Jenna get their second chance at love. Chase did something rather dumb and chased his fated mate out of town. Years later, she's back and he's more than ready to get his girl ;) Filled with mystery, intrigue, drama, suspense, humour, banter and hot spice, this was a page turner for me. I love how this one unfolded and the author did a fab job keeping me glued to my reader. I'm hopeful for more books set in this world as it was highly entertaining and a fab reading ride :D
Weres and Witchery by A.K. Nevermore is the perfect cozy paranormal romance for spooky season with equal parts warm, fuzzy, and blush-worthy. Jena returns to her hometown, Havers-by-the-Sea, to care for her dying aunt, only to face old grudges and her former crush, Chase, the pack leader determined to prove she’s his fated mate. Between small-town drama, family pressure, and rekindled feelings, things get deliciously complicated. I loved the mix of mystery, suspense, and spice, and the character dynamics kept me hooked from start to finish. Fingers crossed we get a story about Felix next!
This is one of the most enjoyable reads of 2025. I love the story, characters, banter, spice, action and romance. I like Jena. She is smart, feisty, and not afraid to give hard lessons. I think Chase is put-upon. He doesn’t like his family, his stalker, and has regrets. I think they are excellent couple. The best thing about this book is the writing. It makes this read so absorbing. I laughed so much and I could not put this book down. It is a perfect Halloween read. Well… to be honest, it’s a great read any time of the year! This is a well-deserved 5 stars!
Jena is a witch returning home after leaving not on the best of terms to visit her dying aunt. She had hoped that she would not run into the Westside Pack and certainly not their alpha Chase, but fate was not on her side... or perhaps it was since Chase knows Jena is his mate. On top of this friction between them, there is also the tension with the unstable magical node turning wild. The interactions between Jena and Chase were electric with bits of humor and tons of spice! This was the perfect Halloween read!
