It would be a dream to be a Hebrew scholar, but since I am not, I really enjoyed Hall’s extremely accessible introduction to some of the most powerful and beautiful Hebrew words in the Old Testament. She provides a great introduction to each term while also trusting her reader to continue making connections and inferences beyond the text, which I really appreciated. She practices a powerful restraint in refraining from over-explaining which makes space for new understandings of old and well-known stories and passages. Some of these words I knew and some of them were new, but through all of them, my love and appreciation for both the Hebrew language and the miraculous Old Testament text grew. I highly recommend it!!

I've wanted to study Hebrew for years. This was a nice way to dip my toes in the water.

I listened, but you’ll probably want a physical copy so you can mark, underline, and write in the margins. Chances are pretty good I’ll buy it a copy so I can do that as well. It will be a good addition to Bible study.

The chapters are short, so study would be easy. Each chapter focuses on one word. It gives examples of how to use the word in English, scriptures to look at to see how it was used in translation, and one or two stories as examples in real life of what the word means and how to use it.

Sometimes it clearly reads as a book written for teenagers or grade 6 through 10. Other times it’s clear it was written for any age who is beginning to learn. Basically it’s an easy read for everyone to learn something. I really did feel like I was back in high school again, and to be fair that’s probably the age group she teaches. On the other hand if this is what the kids are learning in high school no wonder they’re reaching adulthood so much more advanced than a lot of of us were. Hmmmmm maybe I need to read more books on this level.

I really love this book. I was listening to it on Deseret Book plus. The second day - maybe the first day of listening to it I decided that I needed to get the paperback copy so I could make my scriptures using the information from this book. I love listening to Tammy read her book. She has put more than a decade studying the Hebrew language and the scriptures. She makes learning Hebrew interesting and educational. I love her humor and enthusiasm. I have started listening to this book again and am anxiously waiting for my paperback copy. Learning and teaching the Old Testament next year will be more enjoyable and educational using this book.

I would love to have this as a reference book but it was interesting and informative to read straight through also.
