Ten years ago, he walked away. Now he’s back in Sedona to fight for the only girl he’s ever loved—before she marries someone else.
Kyle Westbrook has it all. Prestige. Power. A future mapped out to the letter. But somewhere along the way, he became the man he swore he’d never be, and it cost him everything that once mattered.
One breakup strips away the illusion and sends him back to Whisper Ridge Ranch, the only place that ever felt like home—and straight into the path of Alana Hayes, his childhood best friend and the girl he never got over.
Now she’s engaged. And every stolen glance, every accidental touch ignites a fire he has no right to want—and no way to extinguish.
But second chances don’t come easy in a small town, where memories run deep and hearts are harder to heal. And with time running out, Kyle has to prove he’s not the same man who left her behind…before she says “I do” to someone else.
Chasing Wild is a spinoff of the Paris in a Heartbeat series, but can be enjoyed as a complete standalone.
Ellie Jennings is a lawyer-turned-romance author who lives in the Windy City with her wisecracking husband and high-school sweetheart. She’s been reading romance since before she probably should have and can usually be found somewhere swooning over a fictional character’s happily ever after. When she’s not writing steamy, witty love stories with dirty-talking, passionate heroes and strong, lovable heroines, she’s either baking something sweet, jamming out to a good country song, or planning her next adventure. If you love steamy romance, heartfelt characters, and the City of Love, you’re in the right place.
For the first time ever, the first sentence of a book had me laughing out loud.
Alana puts everyone before herself. From sacrificing her freedom & doing everything in her power to save her family’s ranch. Kyle seems like such a caring guy. He comes back to the ranch to reevaluate his life & does everything he can help Alana & her Dad save their ranch.
Kyle & Alana’s story is absolutely sweet. From flashbacks to present day you see how they fell for each other, what happened to drive them apart & finding their way back to each other. When the culprit who instigated their separation is revealed it’s a doozy! I didn’t see it coming.
Ellie Jennings is now a must read author for me <3
Other points: *Alana’s “fiancé” made me want to punch him immediately. I question why she is with him & engaged to him?! He doesn’t seem to understand her at all & walks all over her. All about himself, “Me, Me Me.” You will find out quickly “why they are engaged”; which I liked rather than it being dragged out.
*Kyle’s father is a very overbearing jerk.
*The Wedding Dress Fitting = OMG, it made me fall for Kyle so much. His way with words when it comes to Alana.
Thank you to the author, Ellie for providing an advanced copy of the book & this is my honest review.
"If chasing you is the only way I get to love you, then I swear I'll run until my legs give out. Because there's no finish line for me that doesn't end with you, Alana. You're it for me—then, now, always."
ARC Review This was a sweet story! I'm a sucker for friends-to-lovers AND second-chance romances, so seeing Alana and Kyle's relationship develop and unfold was great. Alana is such a selfless character. Seeing her sacrifice her finances, her dreams, and her romantic future to keep her family's Ranch from shutting down made me feel so much for her😭 But then Kyle comes back in town to find purpose in his life again and take back control instead of letting his father steer him. Also... worst father of the year!! Every time they spoke, I cringed at how insanely dismissive he is. Anyway, when Alana and Kyle see each other again, it's clear that the sparks and connection between them haven't gone anywhere.
One of my favorite things about this book was the circumstances that Alana and Kyle found themselves in, together due to her wedding obligations. The wedding dress fitting was my favorite scene! The tension and the quiet intimacy were steaming through the pages! As well as the cake testing scene😮💨 Kyle seems like an all-around stand-up dude. He's smart, responsible, caring, and action-oriented (which I love). I like how his purpose in the story wasn't just to be Alana's love interest. He also rekindled his relationship with her dad and made a plan to help the Ranch's finances. Same thing with Alana, I like how she had her plan to help troubled youth. I wish we got to see those sides of the characters a little more.
I'm also a sucker for a good flashback, and seeing the chapters where Kyle would visit the ranch throughout his youth was nice. I liked seeing how they became best friends and eventually their first loves. My only thing is that their first time together wasn't that believable to me. That spice felt misplaced in the story, almost for the sake of having a super hot scene. It was a little odd to read two inexperienced 19-year-olds be complete pros with each other, dirty talk and all, with none of the awkwardness or vulnerability that usually comes with doing it for the first time. But it was still a good story overall!
☟𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦☟ ✰: wasted my time˙◠˙ ✰✰: it's okay, not worth a reread ✰✰✰: i liked it!! ✰✰✰✰: super good, loved it! ✰✰✰✰✰: absolutely perfect, unforgettable, i’m obsessed. ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
The way that Kyle pines for Alana is everything!! Such a fun read with just a touch of spice, though the chemistry and the steam are definitely there from the start.
Kyle comes from a home with high expectations and a father that doesn't take no for an answer. You get to watch as Kyle learns that this is not the "norm" for every household and that he can choose his own path. He takes a step back from his life and reevaluates his passions and overall purpose in life. And watching him accept that it's all Alana is EVERYTHING. Ms. Jennings really had me on the edge of my seat all the way through the last chapter. Let me find a man that will get on his knees for me and express his love in big beautiful ways.
Being a mental health worker myself, I enjoy seeing Alana's passion for helping at risk youth and providing a space for equine therapy. She has such a pure heart and seeing her choose her own path and make her own way in life was admirable. I think the version of Alana we see in the last chapter or so is who we strive to be as women. Owning our own power and finding our fight. She truly takes hold of her life.
There were only about 2 spicy scenes, and while I am definitely a fan of super spicy books, this one still hit just right for me. Again, the pining and the chemistry were amazing. Ms. Jennings is also just an amazing writer. There were scenes where I felt like I could really visualize what she wanted to portray, I could smell the dirt and feel the heat of the sun. It's a true gift to be able to both tell a story and write it well. I will definitely be reading more of Ellie Jennings in the future!
Chasing Wild is a standalone romance and spinoff of the Paris in a Heartbeat series. This book follows Kyle Westbrook and Alana Hayes. Kyle was originally introduced in Ellie’s debut Angel Eyes and was the ex of the fmc Juliet. He was not my favorite person at all, BUT this was his redemption arc and I’ve officially been converted into a Kyle fan.
Kyle is more than he seems. He’s lived a good life filled with power and prestige, but it isn’t until a breakup that he starts to question everything. So after 10 years he packs up some bags and goes back to the one place he felt most at home, Whisper Ridge Ranch. He left all those years ago thinking it was the right thing to do but left his heart behind in Sedona with Alana. Once he sees her again he decides that he wants to do everything in his power to win her back as she was his first and only true love. He is sweet, respectful, protective, possessive, caring and thoughtful.
Alana is engaged to a man, but not everything about her relationship is as perfect as it seems. When Kyle left her a decade ago without so much as a goodbye, she gave up on ever finding love again. Her main focus is saving her family's ranch. When she sees him again after all these years the pain of him leaving floats back to the surface. She tries her best to keep her distance, knowing she couldn’t handle another heartbreak but Kyle slowly proves that they truly belong together. She is selfless, caring, stubborn, fierce, kind and strong.
I love that we got to see not only their present day but also little snippets of their summers together from age 12 to 19. It really solidified just how deep their connection runs and how timeless their love is. This story was heartfelt and all about second chances and finding yourself.
I really enjoyed Chasing Wild, and I am so curious to see if we will get any more books about characters from this one or the Paris in a Heartbeat series!
You will enjoy this book if you like the following: - Small town - First love - Second chance - Engaged FMC - Found family - “I’ll never get over you”
Thank you so much, Ellie Jennings for the gifted copy!
Chasing Wild is a heartfelt second-chance romance that had me completely hooked from page one. Ellie Jennings captures small-town charm and emotional depth so beautifully that I could practically feel the Arizona sun and smell the ranch dust in every scene.
Alana and Kyle’s story is tender, nostalgic, and full of quiet longing. She’s selfless and determined, doing everything she can to keep her family’s ranch alive, even while stuck in a relationship that doesn’t see her worth. And then there’s Kyle, the man who left a decade ago but never stopped loving her. His redemption arc is everything. The pining, the respect, the way he shows up for her, it all made my heart ache in the best way.
The flashbacks add so much depth, showing how their bond began and why it still matters. It’s a slow, emotional unraveling of first love and forgiveness, wrapped in small-town sweetness and the ache of what-could-have-been.
Chasing Wild is a love letter to second chances, finding your purpose, and choosing the life that truly sets you free. After Chasing Wild and Angel Eyes, Ellie Jennings is officially on my auto-read list!
Chasing Wild explores love, loss, and second chances—all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Sedona’s Red Rock’s.
The story begins with your childhood best friend—the one who knew your soul, who held your heart—vanishing without a word. Ten years later, they reappear. But you're engaged. What follows is a journey of vulnerability, rediscovery, forgiveness, and chasing your dreams.
Kyle and Alana’s journey is more than a romantic dilemma. It’s reckoning with the choices that shaped their life: the safe engagement, the career path, the emotional walls built after heartbreak. When the past crashes into the present, it’s not just about trying to understand what went wrong. It’s about rediscovering who Kyle and Alana are now—and what they truly want. It’s not just about rekindling a friendship or catching up on lost years. It’s about confronting the choices that shaped their lives, the dreams they buried, and the possibility of rewriting their future.
I really appreciated the writing style, it feels effortless, loved the flashbacks, and the words and emotions flow. It’s a story that asks: Am I living the life I chose, or the one I settled for? Can you trust someone who once shattered you? And more importantly, can you trust yourself to take that chance?
Kyle and Alana's story is such a cute second-chance, best-friends-to-lovers romance. The way that they are so drawn to each other despite everything had me rooting for it to work out between them. I could really empathize with the way that Kyle was raised, facing pressure, expectations, and conditional love. And then, in stark contrast, I loved the way that Alana was raised to be so wild, free, strong, independent, and sure of herself. This story is a slow (but absolutely undeniable) burn. --- I didn't find myself invested in these characters or the story. It was entertaining to read, the setting was great, and I did want things to work out for them in the end. There were also parts that were so... like, come on! I mean, Alana is the one but Kyle felt like he had to walk away and then he waited ten years to confront any of it? I couldn't find anything in this book that set it apart from others in the same genre/with the same tropes, and I don't think it was one that I will really think about again.
I originally picked this book up because it was set in northern Arizona, close to where I reside, and I don't see many books set in Arizona. I also love small town second chance. Kyle and Alana were childhood friends that turned into something more as they grew up. But then Kyle left Alana behind, broken and confused. Ten years later they are pulled back together when Kyle visits the ranch he grew up on. But when he arrives he learns that Alana is engaged to someone else. Kyle has to fight to prove to Alana that he made a huge mistake, before it's too late and he loses her for good. Alana always puts others before herself, she sacrifices many things, including herself by setting out to marry someone who is terrible for her, all to save her dad's ranch. Kyle grew up always under the pressure of his father, and never quite being good enough to please him. I loved this book and didn't want to put it down once I started it. It's an easy and quick read. This is my first by this author but it definitely will not be my last!
-Second chance love -Yearning… lots of yearning -Ranch setting -Small town
I love a good second chance romance and this book did it perfectly. Kyle spends every summer at Alana and her dad, Parker’s ranch in Arizona beginning at age 12. When he is 19, he plans to stay and work there but ends up walking away with no reason given to Alana. 10 years later he returns only to find out she’s engaged to another man and also trying to save the ranch from financial ruin.
There was sooo much yearning in this book. I loved the flashbacks, I feel like they were done perfectly to understand the relationship between Alana and Kyle. There were definitely some times I wanted to yell at them to just talk to each other but I love how it ended up in the end. Also, shout out to Jimmy, because for some reason I just loved him. Overall, this was a great small town romance, which will have you swooning.
Ellie Jennings has crafted a story where I both love and hate the characters…. Alana is taking practical steps and doing what she needs to in order to save the ranch. Kyle realises almost too late that he loves Alana, and on his return, finds out she’s about to marry someone else…
I felt heartbreak and rage for both Alana and Kyle, both in the past when we find that he walked away without a word, then his reason why, and how it occurred. I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to shout at him, or give him a big hug for the decision that he had to make.
I loved the flashbacks, they helped build the tension, but oh my… when he helped with the wedding planning, I hurt for him. So ready to sacrifice for her, as long as she’s happy. But that dress fitting scene? Top notch, and… whew…
A great small-town second chance romance with an ending I can be happy with.
Thank you Ellie for the opportunity to read this in advance.
I love a childhood friends to lovers, coming back home to the girl I left story! This was super super sweet! Alana is such a great character-willing to do whatever it takes to save the ranch and help her father out. Kyle coming back home to the girl he left and the only family he knew and emotions begin to resurface “uhhh 😍😍” I’m here for it.
I loved all the flashbacks. Not only do I appreciate that the chapters were labeled (nobody has time to guess what’s happening) but the flashbacks were so important to help understand Alana and Kyle. Sometimes flashback scenes are tacky but not here. I wanted more young Kyle and Alana snippets!
I absolutely loved this book and am so thankful for the advanced reader copy!
The way I needed this in between all the heavy reads lately was truly a blessing. Ellie did such a beautiful job with this one, it might not have been the longest story, but it packed so many emotions that I was glad to have read it in one sitting.
Kyle and Alana’s relationship is easily one of the most heartfelt second-chance romances I’ve read. Kyle’s groveling and yearning had me melting. There were so many quotes to choose from, but the ones below are definitely my favorites.
And his love, his devotion, that confession… Jesus, he’s a good man, Savannah (well—Alana, in this case).
Also, Liam being mentioned… was that a foreshadowing for there being a book 2? Single dad trope? Because if it is, I am all in.
If you are a vibes reader who needs a "you know it's going to end happily but you also need to feel everything before you get there" book... this, my friends, is the book for you.
With the perfect balance of flashbacks to set the current day situation, and the most perfectly timed moments (all of them, not just the spicy ones).... this book will break your heart in the best ways and then hold you while you cry.
I was not expecting this book, but oh wow was it exactly what I needed. With just the perfect additions of support characters, and an epilogue you do not want to miss, I will absolutely be reading this one again. and again. and again.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
THis is a sweet friends to lovers to second chance love story that you will love from the first page.
Alana and Kyle were friends and more when they were young, their love was pure, or so she thought until he packed up and left. She is sweet and loyal and will do anything for her family even getting married. BUt after 10 yrs, Kyle is back for a second chance to claim his land and Alana.
Be ready to see their story from blast from the past to glimpses of their break up and the reality of the reasons behind his choices. THe small town feel, the familiarity of their space, and that electric hum is what brings them back together.
A great read.

I rate this book 3 stars because i just didn't really like the book in some respects in other's it was good, but I hated Cal and Kyle's dad they were both such jerks ugh. Kyle and Alana are childhood friends that are second chance. Alana comes back home because her dad is struggling with the farm after her mom died things got harder for him and she's about to be married to Cal who just seems so selfish tbh. Kyle is our mmc and he ruined things with Alana a while ago and he's still deeply in love with her and vice versa of course.

I absolutely loved this book. Had my attention right from the beginning. It was different from your usual "first love is marrying someone else" trope. In this case it was a marriage of convenience which interested me even more. I loved the flash back scenes and the Ranch setting. Plus I'm a sucker for a HEA.
It did have a little bit of the miscommunication trope, that made me want to punch the MMC. However, it's nowhere near as bad as others I've seen.
I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes Romance, Strong woman, found family and HEA.
This book was quite and enjoyable read. I would label this more as a second chance romance, as I felt the friendship was a secondary or even tertiary theme (which is not a problem, but may throw some people off).
I loved the storyline. There were some moments when I felt the dialogue was unrealistic and just needed to be better fleshed out. I definitely wanted more of their backstory in the then time line. Overall, I would recommend this cowboy romance!
I am a sucker for small town second chance romance and this did not disappoint!
The yearning in this was top notch. Kyle helping her to plan her wedding? My heart broke for him! The flashbacks were perfect to provide the needed history between the characters and to take the yearning up a level.
This book was everything I wanted it to be. Honestly I wished it was longer so I could have more Kyle and Alana!
I love a good small town second chance romance and this book is so good!!
This is such a sweet story, Alana is so selfless and puts her dreams on hold. Kyle oh my heart, my heart broke for both him and Alana. Alana is engaged to someone else and is also trying to save the ranch. I just loved everything about this book. Thank you Ellie for this ARC.
As a massive lover of small town cowboy romance I knew this would be my kind of book but I didn’t expect to get so emotionally attached to Kyle and Alana’s story! The book is so effortlessly written, it’s such a lovely easy read full of love, heartbreak, second chances and angst, everything I love in a book and more!
Chasing Wild completely melted my heart. Alana and Kyle’s friends-to-lovers story was emotional, sweet, and so real. I loved the way Ellie captured their history, chemistry, and all the messy feelings in between. It’s one of those books that makes you smile, ache, and fall a little bit in love right along with them. I would love another book on their next chapter in life with their child!
What a fun book. I enjoyed reading Alana and Kyle's story. You get to see a different side of Kyle and understand him more. He grew on me in this book. The desert did wonders for him. Alana is a fixer. She wants to fix everything and her way of going about this for the ranch was a little unconventional but you understand where she's coming from. It's a great read.
3.75⭐️ First book I've read by Ellie Jennings. I liked it. Story was good. Writing was well done. I didn't love the book as much as I wanted to. Nothing was bad about the book. Just missing something I couldn't put my finger on.
Dramatic. Endearing. Unforgettable. From unpredictable to inevitable, Kyle and Alana are a work in progress. Past regrets and present uncertainty litter a long, haunting road. Jennings explores the pain of lost love with a passion that is sure to please.
Alana and Kyle were best friends and childhood sweetheart, until Kyle one day up and leaves. 10 years later Kyle is back on the farm to gain some perspective on his life as over the years, Kyle has tried to become the person his father wanted him to be building the life his father wanted him to have. Alana has had to sacrifice a lot in her life, always putting people out of her trying to make the farm more profitable. When Kyle and Alana reunite with both uncertain features, will they be able to do your things at once and for all or will they both go their separate ways?
I was lucky to receive an ARC of Chasing Wild and I have to say it was a complete joy to read. It was such an easy book to get lost in. I love the character of the development and the story that went along with it. I thought the banter was super witty, the characters were very real with the choices they made, and the emotions that came across. The story was written in perspective from current day and the past so it really gave you drew into the story, knowing the history and the current day situation.
