Going home again… Can be murder. When Lanie Kerrigan returns to quaint and cozy Driftwood Harbor, Alaska, she only wants two to breathe new life into her late mother’s seaside bistro and rental cabins and to find a measure of peace after too many years spent away at college and in the career that she left behind. But when a violent storm lashes the coast and the body of one of her guests is discovered, her hopes for peace are dashed.
Suddenly, the quiet harbor town is awash with gossip, suspicion, and secrets long buried. The bistro’s regulars whisper theories over coffee, casting accusing glances in Lanie’s direction, and even the charming state trooper assigned to the case may be holding more back than he lets on.
Drawn into the investigation against her better judgment, Lanie uncovers tangled histories, hidden debts, and a darker side of Driftwood Harbor that she never imagined. And when another discovery shakes the town to its core, Lanie must decide how far she’s willing to go to protect her mother’s legacy and her own future.
Cozy, atmospheric, and brimming with small-town charm and delectable food descriptions, this first book in a new series is the perfect mystery for readers who love their whodunits served up hot, with the soft wuffs of a loyal dog, and a tide of clues waiting to surface.
It's a good start to this series!!!! Lanie came back home to be with her mother and it was too late. She inherited the Bistro and rental cabins in Alaska. Being near the docks, she got fresh catch of the everyday. Then strange people and things started happening, when she had a man staying in one of the cabins that knew her mother Bernie, then found on the beach dead and especially when the Bistro got broken into while she was upstairs in her apartment. The person really trashed the kitchen in the pantry looking for something. After she had called the trooper Declan, as she is sitting outside she finds an Irish wolfhound wondering around named him Sitka, no collar, no tags. Turns out he saved her from danger more than once. Lanie found out there were strange contraband being shipped in and out through the Bistro Lanie's mother knew nothing about, just helping a friend when she got her supplies shipped in, but turns illegal stuff. Now it's up to Lanie to clear her mothers name and she gets warning to stay out of this, not even your dog could save you. Now you have to get this book. To find out what happened with Lanie!!!!!
This is the first in what I hope is a long line of books.
Lanie Kerrigan moves back to Driftwood Harbor, Alaska to take over the bistro that her mother has run since she was a small child. She also manages the rental cabins that are part of the bistro.
One of the people renting a cabin is found dead at the water's edge. Lanie is not sure that Declan, the local police officer, is working hard enough or fast enough, to solve this before anything happens to her. She is getting threats from someone and has had a couple of breakins. She does find a wolfhound down by the harbor but no one claims him so Lanie takes him in, for which she is very grateful as ke keeps her safe.
I think this book is well written, especially by a brand new author. I love how the characters are developing.

Peaceful seaside bed and breakfast in Alaska turns the small town into gossip and murder when one of the guests is found washed up on shore. This small town will be no longer the same again. IIt’s a small town cozy fill with mystery.
New to me author & I definitely will be reading more! I really enjoyed the story. My only disappointment is that there was not a recipe for the yummy sounding cardamom rolls. I look forward to reading the next book in the series!

Loved it! cozies are truly my favorite, this is a great start to what will be a wonderful series. I received this as an ARC, the opinions expressed are my own.
This cozy mystery hooked me from the first line! The Alaskan fishing town setting was a delight, and the tension was just right: enough to reel me in, but still perfectly cozy. A charming read that kept me turning the pages.
