With his seer powers fading, Gerald left the guild and bought a cottage in a far-off town. He didn’t expect to find a demon in a maid’s dress, bound to the house and eager to please.

Now his days are spent fending off her dreadful cooking, keeping the wine out of reach, and admiring how her tail lifts her skirt at the washbasin. Meanwhile, he wonders why the local lord sold him a home with sultry baggage, and how to set her free from the walls that bind her.

The townsfolk are another story. Every trip brings back pastries, gossip, and enough beer to topple a troll. One day he’s dodging proposals at the market, the next he’s slaying monsters in the lighthouse to clear his head.

It’s no coincidence an ex–demon hunter’s new home came with a demon thrown in. The lord who sold the cottage is hiding the truth, and freeing her may unearth skeletons they’d all rather keep buried.

As Gerald inches closer to breaking her bonds, the two of them grow closer too. But how will she react when she learns he once made his living killing her kind.

A nice piece of silliness

This book is a great quick read in the author's new universe. The mc is ready to retire early from demon fighting and live the quiet life in a quiet town. He is laid back, ready to embrace peace with his greatest enemy being boredom. The LI is a silly succubus maid bound to his house. Not only is she a demon, but she is a lousy maid. This comedy follows the couple as the MC desperately searches for a way to free his nuisance and get on with his life, only to find he isn't ready to get rid of her.

It's pretty generic and tropey. It was a fine enough read really until the ending setup, so only demon harem makes this super predictable now that we see demons are so rare, we'll know every demon we see is an eventual LI...In the end I'm even really sure what it's about, he buys an inn but doesn't open it, goes to other bars to get drunk/eat, just going on fetch quest for stuff related to a closed inn, maybe if the mc was isekai'd it'd be better? The Mc is supposed to be super competent, but I only really got the impression he was familiar with demons but other wise, it's just a lot of the author telling us how great the mc is.

Interesting variation

Alternate universe, fantasy races, quest, harem adult situations

A demon hunter, a succubus trapped in the cottage he's purchased, and what to do about it. Comes close to a slow burn romance. Quirky, and obviously British. Excellent editing. In for more.

......what was that ending? LI finds out that the MC is a ruthless killer of her kind, calls him evil and runs away from him.....and then they find another demon and she's like "helping her is our new mission".....no talk, no resolution; talk about abrupt and unsatisfying, Enough to make me not want to read the next book.
